Wolves set to miss out again on Chris Wood

Wolves appear to have missed out again on Leicester striker Chris Wood – as it emerged Bjorn Sigurdarson's exit could be made permanent.

Head coach Kenny Jackett was hoping to lure former Albion target man Wood to Molineux on loan at the end of the month after a permanent £1.25m move for the New Zealand international broke down over personal terms in the summer.

But Leicester boss Nigel Pearson insists he wants to keep all his striking options after failing with a reported £7.5m bid for Ipswich's David McGoldrick before the window shut.

"I've been told there's been a suggestion generated elsewhere but not as far as I'm concerned," said Pearson. "Why would I loan a player out?"

That would appear to leave Wolves having to once again re-focus their striker search elsewhere after missing out on Patrick Bamford and Andy Delort among others.

And as they scour the market, there appears to be no way back for Sigurdarson, who is on loan at Norwegian club Molde to November.

Asked if there was a permanent deal available, Jackett said: "I don't think there is anything in writing but certainly it was discussed that it could follow up if he does well.

"We'll see where we think his standard is and also see what he feels because before he went he was very keen that this was going to be the right place for him, and going back home was something he wanted to do."

The 23-year-old forward is two weeks into training again after a hamstring injury kept him out of action since July 5.

The former Iceland Under-21 international, who cost Wolves £2.4m when he signed from Lillestrom in July 2012, still has almost two years left on his contract.

"It's a different type of football, and a different sort of set-up," said Jackett.

"At the time going back home was something he was keen to pursue.

"I wouldn't say he was necessarily keen to play that type of football, but he felt it would suit him very well.

"He's been slow getting back into the side. He's now looking to make a recovery and get back in the team.

"We'll look at his season as a whole. He still has the major part, the business end, to come and hopefully he can contribute well and do very well."
