The 25-year-old centre-back has completed his move to the League One side in time to make his debut at home to Scunthorpe on Saturday.

Margreitter hasn't played competitively since last season when he made 15 appearances for FC Copenhagen, who failed to agree personal terms to sign him in the summer.

The Austrian was a £500,000 signing by former boss Stale Solbakken in July 2012 but made just three appearances –the last of which came at Chelsea in the Capital One Cup in September 2012 - and never started a league game.

Margreitter's exit means Kenny Jackett's 'group three' is now down to just two players, Kevin Foley and Roger Johnson after the departures of Stephen Ward, Jamie O'Hara, Kevin Doyle, Tongo Doumbia and Margreitter, while Razak Boukari is injured until the new year and Bjorn Sigurdarson is on loan at Molde until November.

The Spireites need cover in central defence having sold Liam Cooper to Leeds, while Sam Hird is injured and Jack Broadhead, 19, was sent off on his full debut in their 2-0 defeat to Scunthorpe in the Johnstone Paints Trophy on Tuesday.

Chesterfield are managed by former Wolves midfielder Paul Cook and Margreitter joins ex-Molineux youngster Daniel Jones at the Proact Stadium.
