Boss Kenny Jackett today insisted there is no wage ceiling at Wolves but he vowed he will keep parity in the dressing room.

Wolves missed out on £3million striker Andy Delort to Wigan because they were prepared to pay higher wages.

The head coach suggested Delort isn't earning too much more than the top-paid experienced players at Molineux.

But Jackett wasn't prepared to risk having such a young player on significantly more than most.

"I would say it (the figure) is in keeping with the other players," said Jackett.

"We haven't got a magic number we necessarily set. There has to be some parity in terms of age, experience and ability.

"We haven't got one number we won't exceed, but we look at our senior players, our better players and take all of those things into consideration and get some type of parity.

"I think that's very important for team spirit and attitude. When there's no team spirit there, you can definitely see that."

Jackett confirmed the Delort deal would have taken Wolves into the same territory as Bournemouth paying £3m for Callum Wilson.

"We made a considerable, significant bid for Andy Delort and it definitely took it into that (Wilson) category," he said. "We couldn't agree personal terms and we accept that.

"We'll continue to look and have an acting scouting department that will be backed by the board when we find the right player."

Jackett also confirmed Wolves would be prepared to push the boat out to attract a significant signing if he was going to make a difference.

"It would very much depend on his age and his potential, where we think we are and the stage of the season," he said.

"But you have stages like last season where you have a chance (of promotion) and are very close.

"It might be mid-January or even after that when the loan window opens again and you're halfway through February.

"You need to take a player or players that get you over the line. But right now we have got quite a healthy group.

"It's not unbalanced, it's not like we don't have players in every position. We do.

"Centre-forward has been alluded to but we have Nouha Dicko, Leon Clarke and Liam McAlinden who are vying for that position.

"So the situation the club is in at that particular time, the stage of the season - are things that are considered."

Jackett was at Coventry's homecoming at the Ricoh Arena last night to see on-loan defender Kortney Hause play for visitors Gillingham.
