The 25-year-old was Wolves' Player of the Year as they won promotion from League One in May.

He has been named in Gordon Strachan's squad for the European Championships qualifier in Germany on September 7.

McDonald was previously capped at under-19s and under-21s level during his time at Dundee and Burnley but has yet to win full recognition for his country.

Wolves paid Sheffield United £250,000 for McDonald last summer and he rewarded boss Kenny Jackett by playing a starring role in the club's promotion campaign.

McDonald joins West Brom duo Graham Dorrans and James Morrison and Villa defender Alan Hutton in the squad.

Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor has been called up while Strachan has also recalled goalkeeper Craig Gordon for the match at Signa Iduna Park in Dortmund.

Gordon, 31, has played three times for Celtic following his return to action from long-term injury.
