Eusebio Bancessi signs new Wolves contract

Young Wolves winger Eusebio Bancessi has signed a new contract set to keep him at Molineux until at least 2017.

The Portuguese wideman, who was heading into the final year’s option on his deal, has put pen to paper on new two-year terms, with a further 12-month option in Wolves’ favour.

Bancessi, 19, arrived at Wolves last summer from Benfica and was the club’s top scorer in the Under-21s’ League with eight goals from 16 starts.

Now he is focused on trying to get closer towards the senior set-up after making his debut in Shamrock Rovers on the pre-season tour of Ireland.

“I’m very happy to have signed the new contract to stay with the club,” said Bancessi.

“It gives me the chance to carry on working hard and trying to break through into the first team.

“I’m enjoying it here, there is a good spirit with my team-mates, and I’m looking forward to trying to have another good season.”

Having gained a first taste of senior experience during pre-season, Bancessi got off the mark at Under-21s level in last night’s 2-1 defeat at Albion.

“Eusebio is a promising young player who has been pretty consistent with his performances in the Under-21s since coming into the team,” said head coach Kenny Jackett.

“He’s also scored a lot of goals from a wide area.

“We’re pleased to extend his contract and I think he’ll be a talent going forward, where he’ll be able to continue his development working with the Under-21s.”

Wolves’ head of development Kevin Thelwell said: “We all recognise Eusebio is an exciting talent and the new contract is good reward for the potential he has shown so far.

“He is developed into a really rounded personality as well, and this new deal means we can continue to work hard on his progress.

“We think he has the potential to hopefully break into our first team.”

Sorted that one out for you Albrightondek - had a word with Jez after your comment this morning! ;-) UTW

Buckswolf - Thank you. I didn't realise you had such influence.

Great prospect and can't be that far from a 1st team squad call up. Good to see he's happy to sign a new contract, hopefully his chance will come sooner rather than later.

This has got to be the best Wolves news story of the day. One of the few criticisms I made of Jackett last season was he that he didn't manage to find a suitable match in which Eusebio could have played for 15-20 minutes. It would have boosted the lads confidence.

I'm looking forward to seeing him in action, as and when the U21 home games restart at Telford.
