Wolves had looked set to seal a £1.25million deal for Leicester City striker Chris Wood before the move collapsed this week.

And Edwards – fresh from his winner against Norwich on Sunday – believes supporters should put their trust in the boss.

Jackett has added Rajiv van La Parra and Tommy Rowe on frees this summer and is interested in securing the services of Max Clayton after he impressed on trial.

Edwards said: "Fans shouldn't be concerned because I'm sure if the gaffer really wanted somebody, I'm sure the chairman would back him because he hasn't made a bad signing yet.

"You look at all the players he's bought in, they've all been great signings.

"After what the manager did last year, he didn't get that big influx of players in.

"He'd get a couple in then he'd let it go a little bit and then drip-feed players as the season goes on. Looking at his time with other clubs, I'm sure he's done it elsewhere as well.

"He won't bring in five or six players in one go, he's brought a couple in and there will maybe be a few more before the window shuts.

"The manager knows what he's doing in the transfer window so the fans shouldn't be worried."

Wolves were continuing to talk with Crewe about Clayton this week with Jackett keen on signing him.

He is out of contract but Alex are due compensation with Clayton having come through their ranks.

Edwards added: "Look at the players he's brought in - Michael Jacobs, who was such a snip, Kevin McDonald and James Henry.

"They are players who haven't cost the club lots of money, but who made such a big impact last season and are looking to do the same again."
