The head coach has been linked with Chelsea's Patrick Bamford and Leicester's Chris Wood but is yet to move for either.

Middlesbrough are also hunting Bamford while the Foxes would be prepared to let Wood out on loan, with a view to a permanent deal.

But, ahead of Sunday's Championship opener with Norwich, Jackett is not expecting imminent arrivals.

"Not necessarily, I don't think it's something we're jumping at," he said.

"Are there any signings imminent or close? No. If something comes up, fine.

"I can't say we will or won't sign anyone before the start of the season. If the right players come up then yes, if they don't then no."

Bamford is expected to join Boro while Leicester have waited to get new players in before loaning Wood out.

They have signed Leonardo Ulloa from Brighton for £8m but Jackett believes any movement will be towards end of the transfer window.

"Again, from a Premier League club, for those guys to go down into the Championship isn't close at the moment," he said.

"Maybe in two or three weeks that might be the case but right now I'd be surprised.

"Is there a proposal or bid in for either of those guys from us? There's not.

"We're looking at the lower divisions to see if we can buy or at the top level to see if there are guys who might be scoring for their clubs not but may end up down the pecking order."

And Jackett urged fans to be patient as he builds a squad for their return to the Championship.

He added: "I understand fans want to see players coming in and strengthening at the right time is fine. But it's also about bringing in the right players and sometimes that takes time."
