Wolves boss Kenny Jackett today kicked off the countdown to the new season by insisting "we are ready to go."

Jackett was relieved his squad came through Saturday's stormy 1-1 'friendly' with Celta Vigo.

Scorer Nouha Dicko appeared to be headbutted by Argentine defender Gustavo Cabral and there were numerous challenges to set pulses racing.

But Jackett was pleased with competitive nature of the game, which was perhaps an early warning of what they will face in the Championship, starting with Sunday's televised visit of Norwich.

"We're ready to go, we're looking forward to the season and it will be a big test against Norwich because they've been very free-flowing and very impressive in pre-season," said Jackett.

"Looking at their team-sheet, it's a good one, but it's what we want and that's why we're here.

"Getting promoted has enabled us to get these type of fixtures and to get them early on is fantastic and they're ones we have to look forward to."

Jackett was delighted the competitiveness of the game gave Wolves an early warning of what to expect in the Championship.

"It was very feisty – I think had it been an English league game there would have been some red cards, and I'd suggest more than one," he said. "The game finished with all the players shaking hands and it was a really good game and a really good exercise for us. We were at full stretch, as you'd expect from a side that plays top-level football in La Liga.

"When you see them play 4-3-3 like that, there were a lot of lessons we could learn from Saturday. They were a very good team."

Dicko couldn't explain the apparently unprovoked attack on him by Cabral, which saw both players booked.

"I don't know why he did it because it was just a friendly and there was no need to do that," said the striker.

"Even if it was a league game he shouldn't do it, but it's gone now and I'm no longer thinking about it."
