A couple of interesting visitors appeared in the press box for last night's game against Shamrock Rovers.

With head coach Kenny Jackett playing his 'second XI' in the first half, midfield pair Kevin McDonald and Dave Edwards decided to get a different viewpoint on the match.

They joined the media from our vantage point at the top of the stand. McDonald, in particular, was quite taken by the wholly different view from down at pitch level.

"It certainly looks a lot easier from up here than it does down there," he was heard to remark.

I was also disappointed to see McDonald go as he provided the 'assist' in helping us determine it was Matt Doherty's incisive pass for Liam McAlinden to set up the equaliser scored by Leon Clarke!

I thought I had come prepared for Wolves' training session yesterday.

With the weather changing from bright sunshine one minute to heavy showers the next, I was relieved and feeling rather pleased with myself to open my brolly when the heavens opened as the session started.

Particularly as it seemed no one else apart from photographer Sam Bagnall had thought of doing the same.

The only problem was my choice of protection against the elements was of the leopard-print variety, courtesy of a recent trip to Dudley Zoo.

Cue plenty of mickey-taking from the assembled members of Wolves' backroom staff to wipe the smug grin off my face!

Talking of my face, I came within inches of losing it – or at least of having it re-configured.

Walking behind one of the goals after watching the squad train, I suddenly became aware of the players doing a spot of shooting practice.

Many ended with that satisfying 'swish' sound as the ball hit the net, but some were wayward and ended up flying wide or over.

As I carried on walking out of the way – or so I thought – I turned and spotted out of the corner of my eye a huge kick from Carl Ikeme tearing through the air and heading in my direction.

I managed to duck and therefore miss a meeting with my maker – I was never a good header of the ball!
