League One Crawley Town are hoping to secure a loan deal for Wolves striker Leon Clarke.

Reports suggest Crawley boss John Gregory would be keen to add the former Coventry man to his striker options ahead of the new season.

Speaking in an interview last month, Kenny Jackett said Clarke had a lot to do in order to convince both the club and supporters.

"He's got a lot to prove coming here, because he hasn't had the opportunities," said Jackett.

"It's up to all of us – myself included – to match those standards and if it doesn't quite work out, you have to persevere, show your character, then you can come through as a very popular player when you show your resilience."

The 29-year-old is has struggled to make an impression on his return to Molinuex following his £750,000 move from Coventry City in January.

He found the net just once in 13 appearances and had his chances limited as fellow January signing Nouha Dicko found the net 13 times.

Jackett has backed Clarke to overcome his dip in form and is keen to keep the striker at Molineux.

"You need a big centre-forward," Jackett said. "And someone like him with a goalscoring pedigree, I'm certainly hoping his best few years are ahead of him and with a point to prove going into this division, like many of my players."
