Sam Ricketts: Wolves are united

Jubilant captain Sam Ricketts today saluted a united Wolves as he reflected on their record-breaking promotion.

The appearance on the pitch at the end of Saturday's final-day 3-0 win over Carlisle of chairman Steve Morgan sparked a lukewarm response from fans still angry at the successive relegations before this season's record-breaking League One title success.

But Ricketts defended Morgan and believes from the chairman downwards, the whole club is now re-connected and will take some stopping.

"It's a whole club effort, right from the top from Steve Morgan's continued backing to things you wouldn't necessarily see on a Saturday, such as the academy which takes big investment to set up," said the skipper.

"You can see the investment he's put in over the years with the amount of lads from the academy in the first-team squad.

"So that's a huge testament to the ones running the club right the way down to the fans.

"What we have is everyone on the same page, everyone pulling in the same direction and when you get that you take some stopping.

"We've tried to re-engage the whole club together and you can see the momentum we've picked up from Christmas especially.

"The fans have been superb from the first game."

Ricketts also reflected on his pride at lifting the League One trophy in front of a packed Molineux of just under 30,000.

"It's something you dream of as a kid," he said. "You always watch the cup finals and see people lift trophies and you aim to do it.

"The last time I did it was probably when I was in the under-10s or 11s, so it's something I've aimed at for a long time.

"You work all your career for days like these.

"It's the third promotion I've had, but they don't come along very often so you need to make sure you enjoy them."

Ricketts set the tone to end the season on a winning note with his second successive goal at Molineux when he put Wolves ahead after just five minutes before Michael Jacobs and Nouha Dicko wrapped up their 31st league win of the campaign.
