Bakary Sako set for Wolves stay

Wolves are set to keep Bakary Sako this summer – unless a Premier League club comes in for him, it emerged today.

Championship leaders Leicester, the first club to win promotion to the Premier League this season, have been linked with the 12-goal winger among many other potential targets being touted their way.

Sako, who has a year left on his contract, has said he would be tempted by the prospect of achieving an ambition by moving to a Premier League club.

Wolves' promotion at the first attempt back to the Championship has at least offered the 25-year-old the prospect of the platform he thrived on last season.

Nottingham Forest had a series of bids rejected for the former St. Etienne wideman last August, but Sako has insisted he's happy at Molineux.

Nevertheless head coach Kenny Jackett admits there is a chance the French winger could be targeted by newly-promoted top flight clubs or spark possible interest from lower-ranked Premier League sides.

"Sako's future comes up a lot and he's openly said if a Premier League club comes in for him, he'd consider it," said Jackett.

"So let's see if a Premier League club comes in. It was the same last summer, and it happened in January well.

"But even so, the situation would still have to be right for the club.

"I really don't know what the interest is from the Premier League, but he might be on the list of the clubs down the bottom if they stay up or go down.

"Similarly, sides in the frame for the play-offs of the Championship might be interested."

But Jackett said no enquiries had come in for Sako yet. "No approaches have been made," said the boss.

Sako declared the team can continue to improve and praised Jackett but remains relaxed on his future.

"I've still got a year on my contract and will do my best for the club," he said.

"I've really enjoyed my football this season.

"I think we've done very well and especially the gaffer with the job he's done to get us playing well and also such a good team spirit.

"I think that's a big reason why we've done better than last year.

"We've got a lot of good players here now and young players who are keen to succeed.

"With that I think the team can continue to do better and do well again next season."
