Dave Edwards today urged Wolves to top 100 points and win the title after sealing promotion.

Edwards scored the goal that sparked the celebrations with the second in the 2-0 win at Crewe on Saturday that confirmed the League One leaders’ place back in the Championship.

Victory put Wolves on 93 points with four games left and the midfielder is targeting a maximum return.

“It would be great to get over 100 points; we can get 105, that would be a great achievement for everyone involved,” said Edwards.

“Our new target is we need to get promoted as champions and we can have a little party after that maybe, but not until after then.”

Edwards believes Wolves can emulate Norwich and Southampton in recent years and shoot right through to the Premier League with successive promotions.

“People can achieve their ambitions here - you look at someone like Danny Batth signing a new contract,” said the midfielder.

“I think if he’d been out of contract in the summer he would have had a pick of clubs after him.

“He believes in what we can achieve here, and with the manager, the chairman and all the supporters, it’s ready made to shoot straight back up to the Premier League.

“That will be the aim - whether it takes one year or three years, that will be the aim because it’s definitely a Premier League club.

“Hopefully we can get there again and be a bit more stable this time.

“We want to keep this momentum, keep winning these games and keep breaking records.”

Championship title winner Edwards is one of several players at Wolves who have played in the second tier and the 28-year-old believes they can continue their rise.

“I think we can carry this form into the Championship,” he said.

“I really think we’d be up there straight away on technical ability.

“But everyone knows the Championship is very physical as well - you need to be strong and get round the pitch, and that’s something we need to adapt to.

“I think we’ve got the players there to do it and with some additions in the summer I’m sure the club will do well.

“I think they’ll definitely be aiming for a top-half finish and hopefully that will be the case.”
