Record-breaking Wolves are making history

Wolves were today celebrating four more records after their promotion back to the Championship.

As well as breaking the consecutive number of wins with nine victories on the spin in February and March, Saturday’s 2-0 win at Crewe brought them several more milestones.

Now on 93 points with four games left, Kenny Jackett’s side broke the record number in a season for a Molineux outfit, previously held by Graham Turner’s Division Three champions in 1988-89 with 92.

Wolves are now within touching distance of challenging the best points total in League One – Charlton’s 101 points from 2011-12.

Another shutout at Gresty Road – their 12th in their last 15 games - made it 24 clean sheets this season, passing the 1923-24 marker of 23 when Wolves won the Third Division (North) after equalling it with last week’s 2-0 success over Peterborough.

And they also matched the club best 28 overall league wins and 13 away victories of Stan Cullis’s League champions of 1958-59, from the same number of games played – 42.

Wolves are also hoping to achieve another milestone – that of fewest goals conceded in a season.

Their current tally of just 25 is the second best in the club’s history and is on course to challenge their fewest, which was 27 in 1923-24.
