Harry Redknapp wants Kevin Doyle deal

Wolves’ logjam of returning players could be set to be eased after Harry Redknapp declared he wants to sign Kevin Doyle permanently.

Doyle, who is on loan at Championship play-off hopefuls QPR, is one of 14 players due to return to Molineux in the summer from temporary spells elsewhere.

The 30-year-old forward, who is fit again after a knee injury, reportedly took a pay cut on his £40,000-a-week contract – which has a year left to run - to go to Loftus Road in January.

Rangers boss Redknapp, who also has former Molineux captain Karl Henry with the Rs, wants Doyle for next season after his earlier-than-anticipated recovery from a medial ligament injury.

Asked about the chances of a permanent deal for Doyle, Redknapp said: “Absolutely, definitely.

“We’re looking to get him involved in the run-in and it will be a good bonus for us.”

The Ireland international could link up with strike partner Charlie Austin as early as Saturday at promoted Leicester.

“It gives me an attacking option,” said Redknapp. “I could play him with Charlie; they both work hard. He could also play wide for us as well.”

Wolves will almost certainly be willing to let Doyle go for a fraction of the then club record £6.5m paid to Reading in June 2009.

Fourth-placed Rangers need six points from their last four games to clinch a play-off place.

It was thought Doyle would be out for up to six weeks after the 2-0 win at Birmingham on March 8, but he has made a quicker-than-expected recovery and returned to full training today.

Doyle scored within seven minutes of his QPR debut in a 3-3 draw against Burnley and added a second in a 3-1 defeat against his former club Reading before getting injured in a 2-0 success at St Andrews, his sixth game for the club after netting three times in 23 League appearances for Wolves this term.

Wolves also have Roger Johnson, Stephen Ward, Kevin Foley, Tongo Doumbia, Razak Boukari, Bjorn Sigurdarson, Georg Margreitter, Jake Cassidy, Michael Ihiekwe, Zeli Ismail, Dominic Iorfa, Bradley Reid and Jordan Cranston out on loan.
