Wolves boss Kenny Jackett calls for final flourish

Kenny Jackett today urged Wolves to finish with a flourish as they prepare for promotion D-Day this weekend.

Victory at Crewe will put the League One leaders within a point of guaranteeing Championship football, although a win would all but do it because of their vastly superior goal difference.

Three points would also see them get their hands on three more club records - a 13th away win would equal Stan Cullis's 1958-59 champions and a 28th victory would equal Cullis's title winners of 1957-58 and 59-59, earning them a new milestone of 93 points.

But head coach Jackett wants promotion first – and achieved in style if possible.

"Promotion is what we want – and we haven't got it yet," said the boss.

"But if we can do it with flowing football then great – if we've got to dig in, let's do that as well.

"We do set the bar high to try to play good football.

"At the start of the season we wanted to get there but a big finish now would be great.

"We've set good standards with our performances.

"The football hasn't always flowed but it has flowed at times."

Jackett is just relieved Wolves' destiny is in their own hands.

"It's within our grasp and our capabilities which is good and is all we can ask," he said.

"We have to work hard now and make sure we get over the line. It's nice that it's down to us."

And after having no midweek game for the first time in a month, Jackett stressed the importance of sticking to their routine and not getting bogged down by statistics or the bigger picture while they still have work to do to secure promotion.

"If you think too much about it you can think too many different ways," he said.

"Sticking to your routine always looks after you, so we're trying to stick to the weekly plan and concentrate on Saturday.

"As each session goes on, we assess the players, try to pick the right team and get them in the right frame of mind, then make sure the performance level is good, because then generally the result follows.

"We'll concentrate on our routine and not look at the overall situation too much."
