Kenny 'tinkerman' Jackett vows to rotate Wolves squad in promotion push

Kenny Jackett today vowed to be a 'tinkerman' to achieve Wolves' promotion goal.

The Molineux head coach surprised everyone by making four changes for Saturday's 2-0 win at Sheffield United.

Matt Doherty, Lee Evans, Dave Edwards and Leon Clarke replaced captain Sam Ricketts, Jack Price, Bakary Sako and Nouha Dicko, who helped form the League One leaders' strongest bench of the season at Bramall Lane.

Jackett felt the side needed freshening up after only using 12 different starting players in the previous seven games.

He was rewarded as a changed line-up returned to winning ways to end the Blades' 11-match unbeaten run, man of the match James Henry ending United's 798-minute run without conceding before Edwards clinched it.

Wolves are now five points clear of third-placed Leyton Orient with a game in hand. But Jackett believes he must continue to rotate his squad to keep the players fresh for the final furlong of the promotion run-in.

"There's no point in having those players if I don't think at the right time they can give us some energy," said Jackett. "I have a squad of 20 and I wouldn't hesitate to use any of them. We'll probably have to do it again before the end of the season. Playing nine games in 28 days, we're always going to have to use the squad, particularly when there's travelling involved.

"We needed some fresh energy having looked at our last two games. We've been up and down the country having gone to Crawley and Sheffield United, which are two tough games.

"After having a settled side for so long you could see against Shrewsbury and Crawley we didn't have as good energy and legs as we usually have."
