Wolves today said they were 'disappointed' but thanked the FA and Walsall for investigating after they made an official complaint.

It was alleged Saddlers fans racially abused keeper Carl Ikeme and defender George Elokobi during the derby game at the Banks's Stadium on March 8. But after a probe by the Saddlers found no evidence of racist behaviour, the FA have now written to the club to confirm they will face no action.

Wolves goalkeeper Matt Murray today defended his attack on the abuse both players reported. He said: "Nothing personal against a great family club. So people need to get their tweets right to me. Just because it hasn't been proved.

"Always knew it would be hard to prove but people needed to be made aware of what happened. People are missing the point. We are a football family and racism is wrong full stop. If a wolves fan said the same I would condemn them too. Some Walsall fans seem to think we're attacking their club. I stand by what I say. Carl is a good friend and I believe him. End of conversation."

Five arrests included a 40-year-old man who was said to have run onto the pitch. Three other fans were bailed after being arrested at the game, which Wolves won 3-0. A 22-year-old from Willenhall and a 21-year-old from Bentley were arrested for allegedly obstructing police.

A 29-year-old from Willenhall was arrested for allegedly shouting abuse at fans. A 21-year-old man from Cambridge was cautioned for being drunk and disorderly.
