The tall Scot is one of three players nominated for the League One Player of the Year award which will be announced at a glitzy dinner in London tomorrow night.

McDonald is up against two other midfielders, Brentford's Adrian Forshaw and Swindon's Alex Pritchard and isn't expected to win.

With today's game against Shrewsbury followed by a trip to Crawley on Tuesday, no Wolves players will be attending and the club haven't been asked to send any representatives to receive the award on his behalf.

But nevertheless head coach Kenny Jackett believes he has become a vital member of the team.

"We've seen a consistency and an improvement from him which is what every player should be aiming to do," said Jackett.

"His positioning, his awareness and his tactical awareness has improved and come on. The ball flows through him and so many attacks emanate from him."
