Wolves midfielder Jack Price today became the latest homegrown player to commit his future to Molineux as Kenny Jackett backed him to become a "cornerstone of a successful period in the club's history."

The highly-rated 21-year-old academy graduate has penned a two-and-a-half year contract extension to summer 2016, with a further year's option in the club's favour.

Price's contract was due to expire at the end of the season but the club maintained they had a year's option to use.

But he has gained his reward for an impressive breakthrough this season in which he has made 21 appearances and become an important member of Jackett's rebuilt side.

"We're looking now for him to go on and really establish himself in the side and be a cornerstone of a successful period in the club's history," said head coach Jackett.

"Jack's a very good footballer and also a very enthusiastic personality who's terrific to have around the place.

"He's the first on the training pitch every day and has come through an excellent youth policy.

"He's been a real bonus and I'm delighted he's committed his future here."

Price follows fellow Wolves academy graduates or development players Aaron McCarey, Matt Doherty, Danny Batth and Ethan Ebanks-Landell in pledging his future to the club this season.

Price failed to break through under the four previous managers but Head of football development Kevin Thelwell and development coach Steve Weaver always believed he would come good.

"I've been patient and waited for my opportunity. Kenny has been great for me since he came in," said Price.

Thelwell said: "I'm delighted we've managed to secure Jack to a new contract and reward him for his excellent performances this season.

"He's shown huge potential and I'm certain there's much more to come.

"This epitomises everything we want to achieve as a club and we're very proud of him."

Price, who is preparing for a probable first appearance against boyhood club Shrewsbury tomorrow, has been with Wolves since the age of seven and is delighted to have settled his future.

"I'm delighted to sign for another few years," said the midfielder, who is yet to feature on the losing side in the league.

"Now I want to kick on and next season and play as many games as I have this year."
