Scott Golbourne warns record-breaking Wolves against sloppiness

Scott Golbourne today warned record-breaking Wolves that Swindon served them a reminder not to slacken off after admitting they became "sloppy".

moreTuesday's 4-1 win at the County Ground ensured Kenny Jackett's League One leaders carved their names in history as the first Wolves team to win nine games in a row.

But after producing their best 45 minutes of the season to lead 3-0 at half-time, their second-half performance was very flat and the Robins got back in the game through Michael Smith's reply and Jay McEveley hit the angle before substitute Leon Clarke spared any blushes.

"You can't just turn up and win in 45 minutes – you have to keep standards up for 90 minutes," said Golbourne.

"That was a definite reminder of that the other night.

"We set high standards – we can't just turn up and win games.

"Nobody is big enough or good enough to do that.

"We got a bit sloppy on the ball and maybe tried to play in areas we didn't need to when they were pressing really high and had nothing to lose.

"They got a foothold in the game and we rode our luck a bit so we were a bit disappointed with the second-half performance."

Golbourne added: "You have to always be looking to improve whatever the result.

"They say winning covers a multitude of sins but you have to keep doing what you're doing well and improve in other areas where you can."

Wolves still only lead the table by two points after Leyton Orient, Brentford and Rotherham won and Golbourne admitted there is no room for complacency at the top.

"It's nice to have gone on a record run but it's what's needed with the pace at the top, which is frightening," he said.

Smith's consolation ended a run of 680 minutes without conceding and Golbourne insists they will be going flat out to keep more clean sheets.

"The boys I play alongside at the back are phenomenal," he said.

"There's such a desire to keep clean sheets and defend and we all take a lot of pride in that.

"The gaffer keeps reminding us clean sheets will win you championships just as much as scoring a good goal or playing good football."
