Don't stop now urges Wolves star of 1988 Andy Mutch

Wolves' history-makers were today hailed by one of the promotion heroes whose record they broke.

moreBut their present-day counterparts were urged not to stop now.

Kenny Jackett's team achieved a new club best of nine wins in a row with victory at Swindon.

And former striker Andy Mutch hailed the impact of in-form Nouha Dicko – who netted eight goals in the nine-game stretch – and called on Jackett and Co to cash in on their record and make certain of promotion.

Wolves' 4-1 triumph at the County Ground took them past the eight-game winning run of the club's Third Division title-winners of 1988-89.

Mutch netted six goals in the eight-win sequence and figured in all the matches as strike-partner Steve Bull racked up 10 goals including a four-goal salvo in against Preston.

Mutch said: "I saw them in the first of the nine games, when they beat Preston, and I was impressed with the way they played.

"They looked like an aggressive side who played good football and I came away thinking they were a striker away from being a very good side.

"After that game Kenny Jackett went out and bought Dicko, and since then he has made a big difference and scored quite a few goals.

"I have very good memories of that run in 1988 and of course it's something we were very proud to achieve, so I'm sure the current team are just as proud today.

"And you have to give some credit to the club.

"The hierarchy have taken a lot of criticism over the last couple of years for their decisions and their hiring and firing but when they had to appoint a new manager in the summer they went for the right man in Kenny Jackett.

"He has really stamped his personality on the team and we're seeing the results now."
