Wolves' Scott Golbourne out to protect defensive record

Scott Golbourne today spoke of his pride at the work that has gone into giving the team the best defensive record in the entire Football League.

Just 20 goals conceded from their 30 games makes Kenny Jackett's team the most miserly across all four divisions.

"The gaffer has drilled it into us about defending first and working off a solid base," said the left-back.

"As a back four we all know our jobs and we have all played a good amount of games and have got a good unit.

"We are really proud of that as a defence, including the goalkeeper as well.

"When I came in the gaffer said he wanted to start building a new philosophy to work from a solid base but he also wanted his full-backs to attack. I have really been enjoying the system we have played.

"We had an incident in training last week where the gaffer stopped play asked me and (Nouha) Dicko to discuss what we need from each other in the games.

"I need him as much as he needs me to be delivering the balls into the right areas. It's all about developing relationships all over the pitch."

Third-placed Leyton Orient have the chance to leapfrog Wolves with a win by two goals against Stevenage tonight – although they will have played two games more – but Golbourne reckons Wolves will not obsess about their rivals' results.

"You do look at other results – it is natural to keep an eye on what the opposition is doing and the form the other teams are in," he said. "We have played good football for a while now and had a good defensive record but now it's coming together at the top end of the pitch and we're making it count a little bit more."
