Former Wolves star Emmanuel Frimpong today sparked a race row after bizarrely suggesting Arsenal only pick white, English players.
The combative midfielder, who played five games for on loan for Wolves between January and February 2012, is out of favour at Arsenal and will not be involved in tonight’s Capital One Cup clash against Chelsea.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who has been criticised in the past for not playing enough English players in his side, has not been impressed by the Ghana-born 21-year-old. The latest episode will place another question mark over his Arsenal career.
When asked on Twitter why he hadn’t been picked for tonight’s match, Frimpong replied: “Lol I wanna laugh. Sometimes I wish I was white and English #realtalk.”
He swiftly deleted his remark and added “not every tweet is football related” but some fans responded by suggesting his career at the club may be over.
Later he added: “Look what ever you read has majorly been twisted. Is a joke what people will do to start controversy.”
Frimpong has previously been charged with improper conduct and fined £6,000 by the FA after a comment aimed at a Tottenham fan in 2012.
