Matt Doherty today handed Wolves an injury boost as it was revealed he could return to action a week on Saturday.
Head coach Kenny Jackett believes the in-form right-back may be fit for the visit of Stevenage in nine days’ time after the hamstring injury that forced him off after 34 minutes of Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Oldham.
Richard Stearman, who came on at right-back in midweek, has been pencilled in to replace Doherty for Saturday’s trip to Bradford.
But Jackett believes Doherty could well be challenging for his spot back in the next game.
“Matt won’t make the weekend, but his injury is not as bad as first thought,” said Jackett this afternoon.
“I think he has a chance for next week.
“We’ve done well with injuries so far this season, and haven’t lost our regular players for any length of time.
“And we wouldn’t want to lose Matt for too long because he’s been an important player for us.
“He’s not only been good defensively, but also going forward and has created plenty of chances for the team.”
