Stephen Ward will play through the pain for Wolves

Stephen Ward insists he will continue to play through the pain barrier to keep Wolves on track for safety at a happy hunting ground.

The experienced utility man heads for Charlton  tomorrow having played in Tuesday’s 1-0 win against Hull with bruised ribs.

He picked up the injury before his fourth minute opening goal in the 3-1 defeat to Huddersfield last Saturday.

Ward, who returned to the side at wide left against the Terriers, was in some discomfort last weekend but insists the blow won’t keep him out tomorrow.

He said: "I have had it scanned and there’s no damage. It’s just about managing the pain, which we were able to do the other night.

“It’s not bad enough to keep me out – it’s sore but the doctor gave me a jab before Tuesday’s game which numbed it a bit.

“It’s just nice to be contributing to us getting some good results and hopefully staying up.”

The Republic of Ireland international, 27, who made his 200th league and cup start on Tuesday, is Wolves’ longest-serving player after Karl Henry.

Wolves have won at The Valley on their two previous visits – 3-2 in March 2008 and 3-1 the following September.

He said: "It’s always nice to go to grounds where you’ve had good results, and the Valley is one of those.

“Me and Michael Kightly were injured for the first game and we watched in on TV.

"But I don’t think Karl Henry has ever stopped talking about that goal he scored in the last few minutes!”

Charlton have only lost once in seven games, with a goalless draw at champions-elect Cardiff on Tuesday after a thumping 6-0 win at Barnsley last Saturday.

Ward said: "They’re on a great run, they’re scoring from all angles, so we’ll have to be right. There are a lot of tired legs after Tuesday night.

"But, in this league, you can get a good result anywhere, and, if we can, we will be one step closer to staying up.”

Why don't you take a break and relax and let somebody else play like Hammill or Peskzo. I would prefer Hunt on the left midfield to Ward.

That's nice to hear, I have had to sit and watch him and others for the past two seasons and it has been bloody painful, welcome to the club.

Good attide from Ward, let's hope he delivers a good performance at Charlton too. DS should keep the same team and formation for tomorrows game - another clean sheet would be greatly welcome.

Whilst at the Hull game in the week, after 5 minutes into the game my 10 year old son said to me 'dad why is Ward playing on the wing and Hammil is on the bench?' Enough said if even a 10 year old can see Steven Wards worth to the team it is because of the likes of him Berra, Stearman, Henry and Edwards that we are in this position!!

Now NOT KEEN on the Whole lot at the TOP

Hooray. We have been supporting through the pain barrier for over 2 years mate.

And, when you read about Moxey's salary. Well!!!!!!

darren woolridge

Thank god for that, i thought we were going to struggle. PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!

Isn't Jody Craddock Wolves longest serving outfield player!

If Saunders plays him, please make sure he is playing as far away from the 18 yard box as possible.

It will be a tough game, but we are all willing you to get something out of it. Keep going lads, only three to go. UTW

surprised karl henry can remember that goal,as he has certainly FORGOTTEN how to shoot.

The stats prove that Karl Henry is more likely to get a red card than a goal! It's a fact, absolutely disgraceful from a club captain.

please stop playing

Bolton Wolf

sack moxey he's sponging of the club and us as supporters . £2.3 ml .!!!!!!!!!!

Actual reported facts...

£1.2 Million was quoted as Moxey's take home pay for last season, not £2.3 Million.

Further, if you read the article with some comprehension, he had his wages halved (50% reduction) for this current season.

previous seasons mean nothing now,and im sure when weve won there before it was with a team with more desire
