Leeds 1 Wolves 0 - match report
Stale Solbakken got off to a losing start in the Championship as Wolves deservedly went down to Leeds this lunchtime.
Stale Solbakken got off to a losing start in the Championship as Wolves deservedly went down to Leeds this lunchtime.
Luciano Becchio’s 17th minute header was all that separated the sides, but a lacklustre performance left the Norwegian with plenty to think about before his first home game against Barnsley on Tuesday.
A summer’s work on the training ground failed to improve their Achilles heel of defending woefully exposed by Leeds for the goal, which left Wolves with one win in their last 27 games.
And without transfer-listed Steven Fletcher, there was no cutting edge from the Wolves attack.
Wantaway winger Matt Jarvis looked Wolves’ most dangerous player as Solbakken ditched his summer-long tactics of playing a narrow midfield to field wingers.
But after enjoying a fair amount of the ball in the first half when he had the beating of right back Sam Byram, Jarvis was a frustrated bystander for much of the second as his team-mates failed to use him enough.
It was the home side who always looked the more threatening side as Wolves failed to trouble keeper Paddy Kenny throughout.
Solbakken made one change to the side that started against Aldershot in the Capital One Cup last week.
Jarvis came in for David Davis, who dropped to the bench, in a switch that saw Anthony Forde swapped wings from left to right.
As expected, there was no Fletcher, the transfer-listed striker left at home.
Wolves struggled to impose themselves from the start against a livelier Leeds side who settled much quicker.
David Norris fired a foot over before Leeds created three chances from one seventh-minute corner to leave the visitors pleased to be goalless.
Paul Green’s header had Carl Ikeme saving on the line before the former Derby midfielder’s shot was blocked and a follow-up from Rodolph Austin flew wide.
Leeds’ bright start was rewarded with a goal of utter simplicity which
Keeper Paddy Kenny’s chip had January Wolves target Ross McCormack scampering down the left and he took a touch before looking up and producing a peach of a cross for Becchio to dive in to head home at the far post.
There was little goalmouth action for the rest of the first half but Leeds continued to look physically stronger, hungrier and more dangerous.
When the chances did come, they fell to the home side as dangerman McCormack saw a drive blocked by a Roger Johnson before the Scot was thwarted by a fine tackle by Richard Stearman in injury-time.
Wolves matched Leeds’ tempo in the second half, but they hadn’t the ideas or the penetration to trouble Neil Warnock’s side.
McCormack volleyed over after Becchio beat Stearman in the air to flick on before Leeds missed a golden chance to double their lead in the 53rd minute.
Luke Varney was left clean through but with only Ikeme to beat, his touch over-ran the ball and allowed the keeper to collect.
In a rare opening for Wolves, substitute and debutant Slawomir Peszko latched onto a superb pass from Karl Henry to chisel out a cross for Kevin Doyle five minutes later.
But the Ireland international was beaten to the ball.
There were three Leeds bookings in four minutes as tempers became frayed.
First Sam Byram went into the referee’s notebook for bringing down Jarvis, then Varney was cautioned after an angry Johnson claimed an elbow, before Becchio was booked for one of many clashes with Stearman.
When the action resumed, Becchio’s firm shot from 25 yards was held by Ikeme, before Peszko could only head into the sidenetting from Jarvis’ deep centre.
And in the 88th minute, Becchio saw a rising drive from long range fly a foot over.

New manager before Xmas.

We need to sort out the defence as a priority and get rid of the dead wood. We will end up buying the left overs as usual! Other teams use the summer to strenghten their teams. Moxey just pusys around! Hope Stale sorts out the team asap

Woeful displays for the last 2 saturdays, unless there is some transfer activity before the window closes or a vast upturn inperformances , particulary in final 1/3 of the pitch I fear for along season in the btw 8 not top 8 in the league , possibly Constantly looking over our shoulder. CUM ON Wolves dig in

not a shot on target whats changed ?
The Flying Winger
I can believe we started the same as we left off.
I cannot believe we passed back from the kick off to the keeper
I can believe that Doyle couldn't get the first ball.
I can believe that Henry got caught and dispossessed.
I can believe that we nearly gave a goal away in the first 5 Mins
I can believe that the back 4 were all over the place.
I can believe that we didn't defend the first goal.
I can believe that we didn't know how to find a way through.
I can believe that Doyle was ineffective.
Why, because Connor is in charge of training, and it's obvious that Stale didn't watch the DVD's
Not to start with new blood, and buy two CB's and a LB will be our undoing.
When other teams are blooding their new players we stick to the same failed formula.
But let's stick out for a few more million Moxey.
Very disappointed but not surprised.
Kightly scores his first goal for Stoke.
David
New style of play? I couldn't see it. Just not being very good at the old dtyle of play.
No shape, no penetration, no ideas, no closing down (at least Mad Mick's team did that), Stearman and Johnson arguing. Johnson hopelessly out of position so many times.
As a Wolves fan of 38 years standing I hate to say it. No - actually I really hate to say it but things don't look too good at the moment.
Best Wishes
David

I'd expected worse to be honest when I saw the team sheet. On typing this, Kites has just scored for Stoke. We seem to be shedding players when we needed to keep them. Defence the same as always, with Stearman and Johnson being a comedy duo again. Doyle doing what Doyle always does, but NOT scoring. 20 goals for SEB? How? Where will they come from? You have to give him the chances.
A rag tag team and to be honest if we get a point off Barnsley on Tuesday I will be surprised. Stale? The honeymoon is not going the way we want. Sort it out.

Oh dear.
All that need saying is if this is what we have got to look forward to this season Mr Solbakken then relegation is almost a certainty.
It is the PPP way no Plan, no Passion and Pathetic.

Ikeme and Doumbia did well. The right side was non-existent in the first half and Jarvo hardly got the ball in the second, but at least Pesko looked like he might provide some width on the right. The defence (Stearman in particular) looked all over the place and Doyle was totally ineffective. Sigardasun looked like he will need games before we can judge.
1959 WOLF
So Stale has watched every game from last year's Premiership and concluded the defence needed sorting out.
1 Did anyone notice an improvement in defence?
2 Did they look like scoring going forward?
No idea in the final third. Doyle usual waste of time and EBanks nowhere near is 30 goal target
Pretty passing midfield but achieving nothing
Shaky defence, obviously watching the DVD's hasn't done much
Resorting to usual hoof, head and hope sometime during the game
Passes going astray and failure to control the ball at times.
Conclusion?
Same old same old. The only consolation is that, being the Championship, we only lose 1 or 2 nil not the 4 or 5 nil we had in the Premiership.
According to the papers, we are contenders to go down. Looks like they might have a point.
Johnny
A pretty toothless display with no real tempo to our play.
Our two full-backs were dreadful - especially Zubar who was busy marking the referee rather than the wide man for the goal!
Ikeme looked very reliable in goal whilst we need to keep Jarvo (unless offered silly money) as without him, I can't see where the chances are going to be created.
Things can only improve from here!
Fenlanderwolf
Same old , same old . So much for the new system . Lower mid table if we are lucky . League One if we are not .
Roswolf
Dire performance, still the same old defending. It's going to a very long season judging by this debacle.
nedwin
What a shambles we are if we don't change the entire defence we are doomed! Why keep Doyle on? Our club is going backwards at an alarming rate, and as the player exodus continues next week its only gona get worse.
nty
Well, with Stale in charge, I had really high hopes. But, the very first kick on the season, back to keeper and hoof it up reminds me of last season.
Has anything changed.
Giving Henry a 2 year contract says it all. SEB was saying how goals was his target mmmmm.
If Jarvis struggled against an 18 year old, seriously sell him quick before his price goes down.
Just because we've got a new manager, doesn't mean miracles are going to happen. Like the commentator says, 'they lack quality'.
Before people start saying, I'm a doom and gloomer and its only the first game of the season, face it, a 'Premiership' come down and this is how they play.
They have no hunger.
I could carry on.........
Robert Hague
Were you watching the same match!
Byram had the measure of Jarvis from the start, & stood up to him well when Jarvis tried to bully him. It was an impressive debut from the 18 year old youth team player who has continued his impressive per-season form for Leeds.
As a Leeds supporter I was impressed by the way all the new signings gelled together. This bodes well for them through the rest of the season. As an ex- Wolverhampton resident (I remember Derek Dougan well & enjoyed watching him when he wasn't playing against Leeds), & football fan in general I have a interest in how well Wolves do this season & would like to see them return to the premiership as soon as possible - but not at Leed's expense! I thought Terry Connor did well for Wolves last season in difficult circumstances & was sorry to see them go down.
Wolves lacked some guile today & I always felt Leeds were able to deal with your attacks comfortably. However I was surprised by the body language between Stolbakken(? spelling) & Terry Connor. A few times when Conner was trying to talk to Stolbakken he didn't appear to acknowledge him & Connor looked more than a little frustrated in a very muted way! Considering how new Stolbakken is to the English game he would do well to listen more to a man like Connor! It will be interesting to see how this relationship develops over the season & how Wolves cope in the Championship too - I don't think they will find it easy. Good luck for the season, besides Leeds, Wolves are the other side I would like to take one of the automatic promotion spots.
oldgoldandblack
seen enough to be happy with did not expect to start of we a win especially against Leeds who will be hard to beat at home.looks like with a few more players in there can be a good season ahead

That was dire, we have gone backwards since last season. No fight, no spirit, no bottle.
Watching Albion play Liverpool now and I have to say Albion are light years ahead of us at the moment.
The future is bleak, very bleak.
The new signings.... oh dear.

Nothing changes - No threat up front and a defence with more holes in it than my kitchen colander! Where was the defence when Leeds scored - that has got to be sorted out and quick and I just hate losing to Neil Warnock.
Have to say though good performance from Matt Jarvis irrespective of where is head is at. Unless there is still some serious business to be done before the transfer window closes this could be a long and not particularly rewarding season - would love to be proved wrong. UTW

As I have said many times, Wolves lack creativity, that was apparent again today. We never looked like carving open a workman like Leeds side, there was plenty of passing but all to no purpose. This issue needs to be addressed immediately or we are going nowhere. It might help to get in a decent defender or two as well, all in all we look well short of where we will need to be. The good news is that we have time to sort it out, so I suggest the club get moving and restore some confidence in what looks like a defeated team who are still shell shocked from last season.
Chris
Here we go again. 1 shot on target in the whole match and 1 major defensive error costs us dear.
How many more times?
I hope i'm wrong but this could be one hell of a frustrating season.
Looking at the positives we kept the ball better and Peszko looks a good player but we really need to sort out whats happening in this transfer window and move forward.
soggy_wolf
Start as they mean to go on. Another season of struggle to come and perhaps another relegation.

I know we did not win,we gave them a game and were never outplayed.we missed a few chances,i like the look of Peszko, when he settles in he will be a very good aquisition, we saw glimpses of what he can do today.I thought Jarvis played well and did not show any signs he wanted to move.We will i am sure get much much better. I hope no fans pull them apart for this defeat, just keep behind them encourging them.COME ON YOU WOLVES.

Mr Morgan - you said at the end of season awards ceremony "we have a nice little treasure chest of funds".
Where is the investment needed for this relegated team?
Not a single first team defender purchased in the close season.
I see you have found the investment for building your houses.
Remember you have an obligation to the football club, not just your own business interests.

Stale out,not good enough. This club has no clue or no ambition.Wolves are a second division club, with second class ambition.
No good.
Come back Graham Turner.

One game does not make a season but the signs are not good.
Paddy Kenny did not have to make ONE save - in fact there was not one shot on target for Wolves.
The defence looked very poor. Why do we stick with a defence that leaked so many goals last season. Why is Danny Baath not given a chance.
Sheff Wednesday raved about him last season.
And just to make matters worse : Kightly has scored for Stoke and as I write this Guediora has scored for Forrest!

Nobody will be surprised, surely? Same problems because it's the same players. Defensively appalling (Stearman will be found out every week at this level), no midfield bite and I don't see a 20 goal striker in SEB. Poor old Jarvis - it's going to be a long winter, everybody. Unless there's some actual spending on decent, tough, big defenders and midfielders. But we all know that's not going to happen. Play-offs would be a miracle. Top 10 - much more likely. And I'm not a doom-laden pessimist, just a realist who knows enough about football to see when a team's lost all confidence and are basically not good enough. Roll on Barnsley!!

Appears we will have to be patient, get past the transfer window shutting, to see where we stand with our want away players. Coincidentally, seems Jarvo put in a good professional performance. If Fletch is healed up and misses the boat with Sunderland, I wonder if he will be as classy?
Regardless, feels as if we are still uncomfortable in the rear guard and struggling to link and pass through to midfield. Hope we can get in one more highly touted defender!
Heads up, it's early doors, even if we can't seem to unlock it, yet, to new and exciting season!

Poor game from a Wolves point of view although they were better in the second half. As per usual, shakey defence & no goal threat up front. Nice to see Leigh Griffiths on the score sheet in the SPL & Adeleine Guedioura for Forest! Weren't they Wolves players last season? Good to see what good judges of players we are at WWFC eh? Oh well, at least we're consistent, permanently rooted at the bottom of whichever league we're in. How long does it take for the management to realise that Ward, Stearman & Zubar not defenders of adequate skill for this or any Wolves team. I hope there are defensive players lined up for when we receive the money for Fletcher & Jarvis, if not, WE'RE DOOMED!!(Scottish accent)

Same problems as last year STearman and Ward absolute pants in defence and Blake and Doyle never looked like scoring. Better second half when Forde was withdrawn (completely out of his depth). plenty of possession but no penetration. Centre half, left back, winger to replace Jarvis and creative midfielder desperately needed as well as a goalscorer. Its going to be a long hard season
Fenwolf
Total shambles at the back, toothless going forward - SS has got his work cut out keeping this lot up. Doyle, Ward, Stearman and Zubar were a disgrace, Forde isn't ready for the first team, and will someone remind me why we extended Henry's contract? And without Jarvis (which we will be soon) we wouldn't have crossed the halfway line. My hopes weren't high after last weekend's Aldershot fiasco but I was looking for some sort of improvement. Instead we were lucky to get nil!!!
Doyler!
Only the first game but we still lost! Seem to have flashed of decent football but alas out defending let us down again. Seemed that by pushin up further works in a way but Stearman......That useless guy will lose us games by his shirt pulling and shoving. He will give away free kicks and penalties mark my words. The sooner we get in some decent defenders the better. Peszko looked the ticket as did Jarvo. I thought he played well and hope he does not go but we'll see.
Doyle should have gone off instead of SEB. When Sigurdarson came on he also looked quality. I thought Henry had a decent game also Doumbia as well. Ward was okay and Johnson but we are still frail at the back.
This next coming week will be interesting.
Don't lose heart yet. In Staale we trust.

Watchef match v Leeds on Tv, sorry simple not good enough , not sure where this team will get wins playing like this. Defence awful (all of the back four). Midfield had no ideas and Doyle and Eubanks were clueless. Only bright spot was Pezko second half and Ikeme who was excellent. Got tickets for next Sat v Derby, if we have not won by this time next week we shall be facing a serious situation
BEARWOOD WOLF
Gonna be a long season. We need a left back, stearman please drop him he cant read the play, zubar, all heart but not the best right back. Doyle is useless, SEB needs to lose weight, not great performance!

Am I the only person in the world who thinks Richard Stearman is an absolute clown? He was our worst player last season by a country mile and on today's showing is no better this term! Out of his depth at this level! Get shut of Fletcher and Jarvis as soon as possible and get strengthening!!!
Yorkshire Wolf
Can someone please tell Richard Stearman that his 'scream at the linesman' response every time he is caught out of position will probably get tiresome by the end of the season.
Ward was their best player.
Oh, and any talk of a new style, system or philosophy quickly left my mind when we passed it straight to Ikeme to launch forward at kick-off.
Useless.

People are always moaning about the usual suspects Berra, Ward and Stearman, et al, but ZUBAR is by far the worst DEFENDER i have EVER seen in a Wolves shirt since 1979. Going forward he is alright and he would probably make a reasonable midfielder but as a right back he is awful. Truly shocking positioning sense, totally inept. Awful.
Norwegianwolf
New division, same old hopeless defending. Having seen 38 DVDs from last season with lots of it, Solbakken will now have seen in flesh that Zubar (awful positioning YET AGAIN), Stearman (why not attend to the man you are supposed to be marking when a cross is a about to be made?) and Ward are not good enough even in this division. Ikeme and the new signings did well, though.
jolly colier wolves
if the board cant see we need some new faces we will be a mid table team at best
3 new defeders and anouther midfielder and a striker who isnt afraid to shoot
PJB
Watched the game on TV - absolutely shocking. No progress from the debacle of last season and probably more worrying little sign of any commitment or desire to compete apart from possibly Doumbia and Doyle. Zubar left for dead on Leeds goal and he, Ward and Stearman all remain a liabilty in defence. Little or no creativity in midfield and Ebanks Blake remains a shadow of his former self. Forde was completly anonymous.
Feel sorry for Solbakken as you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, but as the Sky commentator summarised there ia plenty of room for him to build on this lack of qualty.
Let's just hope it looks better on Tuesday and that we can get our first league win of 2012.

I watched the game on sky,the same back four that took us down, started the game, and making the same old mistakes, Stearman and Ward marking fresh air for the goal. Im sorry but whilst i thought at one time Ward had improved,he seems back to his old self giving players acres of room, and Stearman seems lost on the Left side of the defence,id like to see Batth given a run out on the left side, and why have we still not bought in a left back?. We had no creative midfielder in the side, and the forwards looked lightweight and clueless not one shot on target. Its very early days, but im afraid we need to adust very quickly if we are going to stand any chance of promotion, on that viewing we look a mid-table team at best. Its ok having loads of possesion, its what you do with it that counts, goals win games, not stats that say we had 75% of the play. Still as i say its early days yet, but we need to start at a very high tempo, and get in teams faces from the first whistle. UTW:

We must be bad off if we have to field Stearman,he`s crap. The defence needs sorting quickly. The Pole has to be told he is allowed to score when in front of goal,Doyle runs around like a headless chicken and Ebanks Blake badly needs a partner.Morgan, you have to dip into your Liverpool fund and give Stale some money to buy,if you don`t do this and quickly,it`s going to be a bad,bad season.

Well, pathetic start to the season. Only 1 win in 27 games now, wow, Wolves have forgotten how to win. Sad day indeed..

Very pleased that we only lost the match by one.
Doumbi looks a good player,Peszko could be good also.Peszko was a little too excited today and showed great desire but his eagerness cost him a little.
Once settled down he could be a decent player.
The defenders well I dont need to say anything.
Stale knows where immediate improvement can be made.
We passed the ball better at times but lack any imagination.
Stale must be given time and the money too buy players.
I like the way we will play with a few more decent players.
Its only the first game and Stale will learn more in the coming weeks when some of the wolves players show him and the world that they are not even upto this level eg:Stearmen,Johnson,Zubar,Doyle....Players who again were poor.
So the message is clear "do it the stale way".

not many posatives from first game and if flech and javo go well we may not have a lot to chear about this yr and that defence again well

Lord how long does it take to realise our back four are just not good enough. Never mind waiting for money to come in for Fletcher and Jarvis for heaven's sake give Stale some real money to spend to strengthen the defence. How long has the writing beeen on the wall. The squad from last year are still in the doldrums. No real shot on goal in 90 minutes. Doyle has gone walkabout, anyway 2 little blokes up front have never done it have they? With the roster in complete chaos, no cutting edge upfront and no proven quality coming in, we look doomed to mid table mediocrity.

Could only watch the game on Sky but I thought we were well off the pace. Doumbia looked out of his depth, SEB needs games and Doyley was right off the pace. The defence was a shambles on the floor and in the air, and if we lose Jarvo and Fletcher which is likely in the next couple of weeks, then we will have a very poor side. Leeds made us look pedestrian and if this is the football we are going to play then it will be a very long season. Come on Wolves let's see some bite!!!

I feel sorry for Stale as he has inherited some dross - who were playing today. Seems like we have to keep them too. IMO Stearman shouldn't be playing football. Johnson was fouled but needs to keep HIS elbow down when remonstrating with the referee / player.I thought Peszko was Hunt in disguise but so so much better and I also thought Sigurdason has a good touch - I like the way he braved his way through the penalty area. We will see more good stuff from him. Still problems in defence. Liked Ikeme - much more authoritive in his command of the goal area then Hennessey. I have to say I think get rid of Jarvis - he is a one trick Pony beaten by a kid today - let him try and ply his trade in the PL same for Doyle - they guy needs a sit down job - he's on the floor more than off it - missed a great cross from the Pole - who looks very promising and a hard worker with a brain. Good luck Stale - you have inherited a mixed bag - but I like your signings so far. I've found something worse than our performance-this report! A poor effort E&S on so many levels. Fletch left out through injury, dedpite your insinuations. Failed to mention any positives like performances of Doumbia and Siggy or the amount of posession. Yes it wasn't good, but a report should be balanced-this one isn't.
MIKETHEBIKE
FROM THE COMFORT OF WATCHING AT HOME,THIS PERFORMANCE SHOWED FEW SIGNS OF BETTER THINGS TO COME.
BUT IM AMAZED THE NEW MANAGER HASNT YET SORTED OUT HIS DEFENCE AFTER WATCHING 38 VIDEOS OF LAST SEASON'S FAILURES.
THE HAPLESS STEARMAN REMAINS A HUGE LIABILITY AND SURELY SOMEONE WILL COME IN TO REPLACE HIM BEFORE THE TRANSFER WINDOW CLOSES.
BARNSLEY ON TUESDAY SHOULD PROVIDE US WITH MORE ILLUMINATING IDEAS OF WHETHER WOLVES WILL BE SERIOUS PROMOTION CANDIDATES.

Mr Solbakken, to change the mind game of this team you need to change more players and that means Mr Moxey and Mr Morgan have to release the purse strings so you can buy some quality players and I mean quality, if not Wolves will be in the doldrums once again for god knows how many years. There are players here in Brazil that are not in the top flight that are far better than most of the players on Wolves books.
Mr Solbakken you have been used to managing players with a "fight to win" mind set, I am afraid that is much lacking at Wolves and has been for a long time other than when they have managed to get into the Premiership, but i fear those times were partly due to the poor quality of the other teams and not the quality of how Wolves played.
I really hope you have the "midas touch" and hope I will see Wolves returned to the top flight and stay there on merit before I pop my clogs.
Good luck.
Brazilian Wolf.

If there are any Wolves' fans anywhere in the World, not concerned at our current plight, they must live on cloud 99.3 wins in our last 37 league games.Down a division and still only one effort on target, and that was an over hit freekick from Jarvis. Our defence was as wide open as the Manchester ship canal. Then there is the lack of balance in the side. When went up last time, we had excellent balance throughout the side.A right footed centre back in Craddock and a left footed cenre back in Berra. We had a right footed midfielder in Henry and a left footer in Jones. One who could tackle and one who could pass the ball quickly. We had two wingers who could play on both flanks , a big target man who could win every high ball{we have just sold one in Vokes] and a striker to feed off the flicks. What have we got now,a complete mess. Two central defenders who both want to play on the right. Two right footed midfielders of similar styles, and a powder puff attack. This needs sorting out quickly or we will be in another relegation dog fight.

Is it too early for a "Wolves looked stale" headline! Usual problems at the back and nothing it seems up the front. If we can't score and can't defend it doesn't matter how compact we are. Clearly the last minute dramas over players jumping ship like rats hasnt helped.
Was always going to be a tough opener though so the test will be the next outing at home I suspect .

Same old defensive problems not addressed once again, ward and stearman looked clunsy and are both liabilitys. Until we realise this and replace them with competent players its always going to be a uphill struggle. Doyle also looked as copmpletly ineffective in the championship as he was in the prem. I know its a work in progress but we need to improve vastly and fast. With a couple of signings at the back we can do it!!!!
Mauler
Ikeme - faultless
Zubar - oor
Stearman - not good enough, get rid
Johnson - Poor
Ward - Poor
Jarvis - performed admirably
Henry - average, can do better
Doumbia - looked good
Forde - maybe not ready yet, but potential
Doyle - very poor, doesn't merit a place in the team on form shown in the last 12 months or so
SEB - needs to do more, but capable
Peszko - impressive, could be a good signing
Sigurdarson - didn't do much, hopefully much more to come
Martin
Well let's just look and see who scored for forest and stoke
Swamp Rat
Is this mad Mick in Norwegian clothing? Same old huff and puff - going nowhere. Fact is there is no spark, no orchestrated teamwork nor any hell bent desire to win. Solbakken has been in charge for a month and a half now - they were an aimless rabble when he started and they haven't changed a bit. Just how much influence has clipboard Connor got on the training field? - whatever it is it aint any good. Moxey can take hold of his hand and the pair of them can skip off into moonlight, and keep on going.
The stats speak for themselves, only 1 shot on target that will pan out to 46 shots on target for the entire season. I expected better now I'm praying for better.
Creep in Wolves Clothing
Woeful.
No shots on goal, too much 'hit (or head) and hope' and same old defensive errors. Ikeme had a good game, good to see Pezco And Doumbia making their mark. But we need strikers who get in position and go for goal, and crosses to them.
Watching Prem game highlights after watching ours just vindicates our relegation. Come on, you Wolves, pleeeeeeeease!

after all of that......Its going to be a long season

With all the turmoil going on at the club, I said I will watch the game without any expectations and unfortunately got exactly what I expected. Nothing!
BUT there is absolutely no excuse for our defending. Same errors as last year by the same people. Selling Fletcher, Jarvis etc has nothing to do with not acquiring a decent left back and decent central defender! Our poor defence will make the same mistakes in the Conference let alone in the Championship!
Shame!
Instead of concentrating our efforts to sell Fletcher, Jarvis etc we should have spent the time to secure proper defenders instead! And alas, our remaining attackers leave a lot to be desired for too.

great start and very predictable, struggled against the mighty aldershot so no surprises here, well at least weve still got quality like stearman in defence, moxey and morgan need to realise there are no prizes for going down the table as fast as possible

Can't score, can't defend, just like last season. Only now these same problems are at championship level! Maybe league one is more our level. I can not believe that STS has watched all our games from last season and concludes that stearman is the central defender of choice. If we don't get any CB's in during the next 2 weeks then i think i will break down and cry!
Notice Kightly scored on his debut!!!!!
NaptonWolf
Well,I suppose that was expected, given the turmoil at the club. I see that Kightly and Guedioura scored! Long road ahead. I guess the winter 'window' will be our saviour.

Defensively woeful. If we were to play wingers it should have been Hammill and Jarvis.
We know that Stalle is the market for defenders and do we ever need them. Is Danny Batth not better than Johnson or Stearman?
Either Fletch will go for 15 mil which we can invest in new defenders/midfielders or he can come back into the starting line-up!
Dave
It's a start but what Stale has to do is ensure his back 4 do NOT include Stearman or Berra & even Ward.
Look back at the games last year & both were left wanting on countless occasions.
Neither player is good enough so spend some money at the back. Stop leaking poor goals like yesterday then we may be able to build on it.
goldenwolf
Guedioura and Kightly scored yesterday too...hmmmm!

More of the same, boring, lifeless drivel. The only players with any authority were Ikeme and Doumbia. Doyle and Jarvis think they are better than they are. Garbage.

What a shocker !!!!!! When I saw the ball passed straight back to ikeme and hoofed down the middle I knew nothing has changed , still has that idiot Connor with him and we need defenders in NOW , not when fletcher and Jarvis have gone when it's to late but now , spend now or we are looking at mid table as the very best option , disgusted in this club to be honest
Ficklefan
Only watched the game on sky, but what was glaringly obvious was that our defence is still shambolic at best.We badly need to bring in a couple(at least) of proven defenders or we haven't a hope of promotion this season. Overall it looked like the effort was there so optimistic on that front but PLEASE PLEASE sort out the defence.
Solentwolves
I am not going to get stressed out by this. He has inherited this team and, as he says, it is battle-weary having largely only known defeats for heaven knows how long. We know it needs drastic remodelling and new personnel and Stale will sort these areas out given time. I don't anticipate a quick return to the PL much as I would love it; I see this season as the rebuild and the creation of Solbakken's own team with everything to look forward to come 2013-2014. Sure, as I'm an impatient sort of bloke, I'd like to be proved wrong however - with a play-off position this time around! I can dream, after all. But, come January, I suspect the revamp will be in progress with new names in the squad - players known to Stale who want to come and play for him and who can do the business.
Stafford DeWolf
Flat, uninspiring performance from Wolves. Yet another awful goal recalling all the horrors of last season, conceded by an unchanged defence which may finally find its level in league 1.
If a cutting edge isn't found after Fletcher departs this may be sooner rather than later.
Encouragement from Ikeme and Doumba but the rest were pretty uninspiring.
Slow out of the blocks. Lets hope all can up their game including the manager who must have fallen asleep watching Moxey's DVDs to leave this defence unchanged.
Zubar to Bekitas - bite their hands off Jez before they view the latest Wolves' video horror.
Things can only get better. Can't they?

Reality Check number 999!!! Mox and Morgs have no idea how to run a football club!
Why is Connor still there, selecting Muppets old faves who are mediocre championship at best?
Losing Kites for £3m is a joke, we needed him!
Adelene, Milijas, Hammil - our better creative players should have been given a chance, we are just repeating the mistakes of last season with the same dross players!
SEB & Doyle have lost it..not gonna score for a while and they do not work together
We need to strengthen, Jez and Morgs are only holding out so it's too late to spend and buy new players - cheapskates!! Look at Leeds & 7 new signings, working well!
All these issues should have been sorted ages ago...we are playing catch up AGAIN!! Clueless management of the Club - Moxley Out!!

Oops sorry, i am looking at the Scottish premier where Leigh Griffiths of Wolves now playing for Hibs tops the scorers.

I can forgive being beaten but I cannot forgive the lack of effort and determination. Leeds were hungrier says it all. We could have got Warnock. His teams are always hungry.
I don't think Leeds were actually up to much and it's a positive that we only lost 1-0 but the S n M's (Stalle, Morgan and Moxey) MUST BUY A DEFENCE. Stearman was better than Johnson but he's nowhere near adequate. Ebanks Blake will not cause most defences problems. Doyle is at his most effective playing alone up front - we know this so why play him as a pair?
I'm up from London on Tuesday and Saturday and hopefully my cash will be well spent. I still believe. A few years ago Reading lost thier first game and went on to get promotion with 100+ points. We CAN DO IT....

how easy for leeds you don't have to be a brilliant manager to plot wolves weakness wolves defence push up leeds long ball over the top winger runs into acers of space good ball into the box striker running in scores.unless we get to grips with new style of play expect more of the same.we had enough of the ball to get a point but doyle and E.b.blake did not have the ability to trouble the leeds defence. verdict at the moment end of season midtable.

Every successful team has strong foundations:
A solid imposing goalkeeper.
A reliable centre back
A powerful midfield with at least one ball player
Strikers that have different qualities and play for each other.
To be honest I am not sure we have any of these at present so as others have said we need an all new back four - isn't there any talent in the lower teams in the club? If we are going to invest then I would put all the money here this season as we have leaked consistently four the last four campaignss. I don't care if we go through a dull and boring phase to achieve a solid defence but it does give everyone additional confidence.
Those expecting an instant return like me are going to be disappointed as I now feel this is going to be a long haul. I remain optimistic as ever but I think I may be kidding myself particularly as I see all the guys - Kites, Adlene etc all performing.

The team are still suffering from a massive hangover from last season. having not won many games all year it not surprising we hadnt a clue how to win this one.
I was happy with the way we passed and kept the ball. We looked quite good.
But Stale must see that we still cant defend and do something about it.
we need another centre half and full back. Stearman, jonhson, ward all over the place .

I go along with what Robert said (#38), not a happy relationship between SS and TC. The team will sense it aswell, will have to get it sorted before performances will improve. On a positve note I thought the new signing performed well.

On a positive note (as we all seem to need one) Stale has signed Doumbia who looks good, Pesko who showed some promise and Sigurdason who looked like he might be a handful. Early days but maybe Stale can spot a decent player and if Jez lets him choose his targets with the £20M+ we are about to bring in for our two best players then maybe we can go somewhere.
Also a bit surprised that those of you who spent 4 years calling for McCarthy to go and then 3 months after Connor might be prepared to give Stale a few games at least before you start on him! You know who you are ....
PJB
Taking into account both tactics (or lack of) and team selection it looks as if the idiotic Connor is still running the show. 3 of the Gang of Four started and Edwards was on the bench. How can Stearman, Ward or Edwards be considered for selection even at this level and Zubar may have some qualities going forward but but he is definitely no right back. Seems to me as if Stolbakken is trying to do this job with his hands tied behind his back as what little qualty we have / had are all heading for the exit door and all the deadwood continue to proper. Only bright spots were Ikeme, Peszko and Doumbia. This club will continue to founder whilst Connor still holds sway an his mates continue to get preferential treatment.
Even Sue is beginning to sounsd like one of us numpties, thst's how bad it looks.

No 23.
I also thought that Staale ignored what TC was trying to tell him and when he sat back down in the dugout he looked genuinely peeved about it.
The positives were that his new signings Doumbia and Peszko look as though they could be a handful this season.
The negatives are the same as always as we give away such easy goals. I know Solbakken is trying to bring in a defender and hope he sorts that out soon. When or if Fletcher goes then also a striker to replace him.
Early days yet so keep the faith.

I don't think I have ever seen a comment section where 100% of the comments are negative, there are usually a few looking for bright spots.
Its beyond belief that SS has not sorted out the defence. I can only think that TC is supporting the likes of Stearman etc or their are contractual issues that prevent us offloading this terrible defence.
This is now the third season where everyone (the fans, the pundits and even our rivals) have been saying we need to overhaul the back line.
Why is this not happening?

ATLANTA WOLVES

Gutted
Didnt go yesterday, and actually predicted a much worse score.
Went to Shrews, Walsall and Alder. Against all 3 we looked like we were playing Man U.
First game i though, ahh well we won and we were just trying a few players in different positions i.e Davies RM???????
Second, i though its only a preseason.
Third i was disgusted, until Nouble came on we were woeful.
fourth and im now seeing, it isnt the players, its the manager. MM managed to get the very best out of average players. He needed to go, but so did that whole team at the same time. They are grafters, nothing more, and now there not even grafting. End product is results like this.
So 1 of 2 things has to happen now, not at xmas, or next yr, NOW.
1, Stale has to go, and you bring back Mick.
2, 10 players have to go replaced by 10 skillful non grafters, there are loads of guys out there who could do a good job for us. Keep Henry, Davies, Hen, Tongo, Pezko, and Siggy.
get rid of, Zubar, Stearman, Berra, Johnson, Ward, Jarvis, Fletch, Doyle, DeVries, Milijas, and O'Hara, Yes some of them probably are good enough for low prem top champ teams, but they are still grafting players, and are all carrying last year on their backs.
Now remembering we are the richest and nearly biggest club in this league, i want us to show real ambition and sign,
Huddleston - Hardly gets near the pitch for spurs, has had injuries but fit again could be great for us.
Zaha - Looks like a great attacking player, who will be good enough for Prem if we get up.
Frimpong - Yes injured but fit for Oct and would be great for us. Aint gonna get near Arse team and loved it with us.
Bassong - This might be wishful thinking but he was good last yr, and would be inmense in Champ.
Savic and Boyata - Both on loan for a year from Man C.
Jenas - Loan from spurs, wont get near their first team.
Bertrand - Loan Chelsea.
Now, yes we wont get them all,and yes a few will turn their noses up at Wolvo but 2/3 of them would make a huge difference. Huddleston, Bertrand and Zaha in particular. I think midfield is still the issue. Henry and Davies are ok, but cant play them both. Then now attacking threat at all in any of the games ive seen.
We must also remember that Stale, might just be useless. He went to a top 6 German team, (yes lost a few player) but still had 3/4 German internationals and most of the team was full of other internationals, and took them down in a much easier league than the prem, so on that basis, Mick is better.
Time for change is NOW

Don't get me wrong not happy with a loss and i know first half we played rubbish but i do feel that yesterday seeing the second half the way we played footbal was 100 times better than under the boring mcarthy reign! Think noone can rule out the manager yet as to me everything looks better with our play we just need to make certain things like defence need to get someone in and attacking we need a bigger striker as fletch is going. Just going to have to see after 10 games how things are.

unless the dross at the club is removed, then we got a long stay in the championship.First one to go,must be connor,he obviously still having an influece, other wise steerman, ward and zuber playing right back wouldnt be happening again. Stale might be the manager, but its clearly obvius the people pulling the strings, connor ,moxey and morgan our the one making the desisions. I should have known better than check this message board! Jese it's one game and green Nigel is saying solbakken out! What a @@@@. It will take time this season to get going. Losing is a habit and so is winning. We ain't got the winning habit yet. Seb and Doyle CAN AND WILL score at this level. They've done it before. But confidence is brittle if not absent and with various players asking to leave its all very unstable. It will TAKE TIME for the team and tactics to develop but I swear to god if so called wolves fans hound out the new manager after what will no doubt be a poor first three months then I'm selling my ticket and never setting foot in the place again. GET BEHIND THE TEAM or get out. Let's create a cauldron against the tykes and march on from there. Keep the faith and back the team. Rome wasn't rebuilt in a day!!!UTW

It is going to be a long, long season, but we have to back Solbakken with his plans in the interim.
Clearly, from his targets, he has aimed to strengthen the LB position, so he can see how atrocious Ward is, the same as the rest of us.
Time for Connor to go and to get in a new coach. This is still pretty much Mad Mick's team and until Connor goes, we will get no improvement.

Dear Santa,
I have been a good boy this year and would like 4 proper defenders for my beloved wolves.
Just sending my letter early because Moxley and Morgan won't sort this crap out for some reason!
Stale Pants Billy no idea
Hail Jez and Steve.Once again we have a lop-sided ground, only this time we have a lop-sided team as well.
I think Mr Skolburger must have watched them DVD's in a VHS.
Absolute rubbish Moxey, please get spending or go.I cannot and will not stand mediocrity any more.

If Stale Solbakken really did watch those much maligned dvds of last season, then why has he rewarded the prime culprits of that degrading failure?
At the same time he has turned around to people who would not have featured on those tapes, Hammill, Milijas, Guedioura etc (each of whom have the capability to run this league and the much needed ability on the ball that we so crave) and told them they are not required? On what evidence is that Sol because you cannot have seen them... just as we thought, it's been done on Connor's say so, another hangover from the Mick McCarthy era that has been kept at the club on sentiment alone as he EVIDENTLY has no coaching or management ability.
Naive, spinless, inexcusable decisions are being made on a daily basis at our club. The local hero Karl Henry was in the paper all week then as ever FAILED to live up to his words, every minute he spends on the pitch is holding back the promising career of Davis.
Anthony Forde is not even our best academy player so how is it that he is first to be promoted to the senior team? Sick of hearing how Zeli Ismael is the best kept secret in Enflish football, and Jonny Gorman has international caps and goals yet he is farmed out to score wonder goals on his loan debut...
So much for 'a fresh start' so much for ' new ideas ' so much for ' no need to panic '. Solbakken produced the performance that his first name suggests...
OldWolf
If Fletchers going he should be gone by now, same with Jarvis. Then there is the question of what is possibly the worst defence in Premier League history being left intact minus its only redeeming feature which is Hennessey. A wasted summer we could not afford has left us totally under cooked. The only straw I can clutch at is bad as we were we only lost 1-0. Last year such a showing would have meant a 4 or 5 goal thrashing, the difference in quality is stark BUT we must act THIS WEEK.Thats THIS WEEK Jez,will somebody please explain the tranfer window to the man and buy him a calender.

Continuing from last season ..... crap! Have they not learnt to move the vall round at a faster tempo. They shift the ball so ponderously slowly, at practice patch pace that they are easy to defend. My contention is the players we have are not good enough. Also they have a losing mentality. They do not look like a side who will impose themselves on the Championship.
Longwalk
Nothing changes, zero....I could have been in some form of coma and just woken up because maybe Taylor, Hoddle, or Mccarthy were the manager, same formation, same tactics just boot the ball boot boot boot, no skill no finese, no close control, no idea....what do these guys do all week???what do they practice?? what do they heartfelt discuss and care about??how can you go on a pitch and consistently year after year be so dire.....shocking performance....and guess what nothing will change nothing
wolves benalmadena
Why are people slating Doyle he was the only forward who made himself available to pass to so he always had defenders at his back. Ebanks Blake is vastly overweight and has absolutely no ball control, Forde was completely ineffective needs more time before starting in the first team and why do we continue with Ward and Stearman year after year.Moxey's brother in law is in Solbakkens ear all the time although it did look as if he was fed up with Connor's suggestions and started not to acknowledge him towards the end of the game so perhaps there is hope yet. I am afraid we are going nowhere unless we drop Ward & Stearman,Leeds looked like scoring everytime they attacked, first goal of the season coming from the player Ward should have been tracking, but he was 3yds behind him just like last season, this will be the first of many for teams attacking down the right.

Enough said.

Need flair players to win this league not workhorses.
Get the 9 and 12 million men sold or not within the next day.
Berbatov will go to Sunderland so that deal probably dead.
Adam Johnson will go to West Ham so the other deal probably dead as well.

Sell Fletcher and Jarvis, then pop up to Liverpool and sign Adam and Cole. Pick up Michael Owen on the way back.

Sir Billy Quiet
Barnes 1959 - short memeory in respect of WBA - remember they have bounced between the top two divisions - this is their 3rd consecutive season in the top flight. Wait and see one good result (against a poor Liverpool) does not make a season.
Same with the Wolves - a narrow defeat at Leeds is not the end of our season!
The moaners will always moan - no change from when we got promoted - they still moaned throughout the Premiership years and will moan throughout this season.
If you are a Wolves supporter you will be prepared to give the manager time to sort this squad out and introduce his own ideas.
Sir Billy Quite
Do you love the Wolves?
Are you proud to be a Wolves fan?
So much negativity after one league game.

you see all the other teams going out to buy defenders....why then do we stick with the rubbish that help send us down...promotion? i dont think so with that back 4 on sat...
Goldenwolf
Why can't professional managers, who were previously professional players not see that our defence is an absolute shambles. If we defended like that at the level I play at then the midfielder/strikers/management would definitely have something to say and we'd be dropped, players are too comfortable.
Ward - ok going forward but positioning is terrible, tackling is awful and is constantly backing off and being done for pace. Need to buy a left back.
Stearman - Had a good season when we won the Championship but has been out of his depth the last 3 years and was all over the place on Saturday. Big, strong centre back needed.
Johnson - Discrace last season but has been given another chance. Very slow and need a centre half with pace next to him. Danny Baath must fancy his chances.
Zubar - I like Zubar but he is playing out of position (standard Mick Mc Carthy) and has the pace that we have needed in the middle for the last 3 seasons. Adequate replacement in Foley.
The worrying thing is Jody Craddock is still the best defender at the club and he was already here when Mick took over. Good teams are built from the back. I'm not blaming Stalle as he has tried to sign defenders already but until this problem is addressed we will leak goals. Mouyokolo, Baath and Craddock must get a chance if this continues.

I cant believe some people on here say then cannot see the new way we are trying to play......... you obviously did not go to the game. Sure we didnt play brilliantly in the first half in particular but this will take time to gel. Did you watch it on television where the camera follows the ball???
Some of you are so quick to jump on their backs its pathetic. We all know we have problems in the squad at the moment and its frustrating for everyone but for some of you to have a go at the new manager after 1 league game is pathetic. I actually went to Leeds unlike im guessing most of you who claim the system is the same as last year........ I honestly feel that yes we have players wanting out and the new system is going to take time, but some of you are also part of the problem at this club. Pathetic section of fans in this club who moan about everything. We are not going to win every match............. we have had 1 league game!! Why get so carried away.

Wolfie1
I'ts a wake up call - if we need one - that it's going to be a very long and difficult season. We still lack the quality and system to succeed and I think we will struggle to survive this division.
Ye Olde South Bank
Unbelievable that we've got the same, lame defensive frailties that sunk us faster than the Titanic last season. Clueless up front, too. Still, at least Wolves had plenty of possession (not that it counts for much seeing as goals are the only currency that matter). The body language was negative, too, because their confidence is patently shot. We continue to look in freefall and these are worrying times indeed. Nice stand, though, Steve.
Still, one victory can change everything so lift the roof against Barnsley, lads. The attention-seeking egotists in the dressing room may be disturbing the club's solidarity, but we fans don't have to follow suit. If they want out, just bog off, I say.
Let's give Stale Solbakken a rousing reception, too. He needs to be given time to sort out this mess, not a mere 90 mins against Leeds. Hell, he needs a miracle more like, the poor bloke...
Albrightondek
Seems like Staale Solbakken's honeymoon period is over already looking at some of the comments above.
The team played without any real conviction as though they were lacking in confidence. This maybe because are trying to adapt to a new style of play and are frightened of making a mistake.
I did'nt think we were that bad, but if it does'nt improve then there will be no chance of promotion this season. A better idea of how we are going to fare this year will be after about six or seven games have been played.
CadburyCaramel
Considering that we have a new manager, a new formation for the players to adapt to, and that key players are on their way out, perhaps expecting immediate dominance could be considered a tad optimistic?
Give 'em time!

It's remarkable how many of us think (and have done for some time) that Connor is one of the biggest problems at the Club Think he is now on his sixth mananger excluding himself yet he survives come what may. I believe that if Mick had the nous to ditch him he may well have still been here with the assistance of a decent coach.
As in my post above it seems clear from tactics and selections that he is still pulling a lot of the strings and along with his pets he may even be perpetuating some of last season's dressing room divisions. It was clear on Saturday that there are tensions between him and SS but if someone has to leave don't bet on it being Connor.
Wolfiesteve
You know the saddest part of all this is that, we obviously have an owner & a CEO who don't give a damn about this football club or it's supporters. It looks to me as though Solbaaken is merely a "yes" man for Moxey. How can he have had any input to the purchase of Doumbia & Nouble, he wasn't even here at the time & when would he have seen them play? If he couldn't see, after watching the videos of last season, that we need at least 2 big defenders, then he's not a good judge of players! If he was a strong manager he would have insisted on having funds available to go out & get them, regardless of who might or might not be sold. Finding the right players & paying the going rate for wages is absolutely critical if the club has any ambition. It's not a gamble, the club has plenty of money & surely a swift return to the cash machine that is the Premier League is what all clubs aim for. Why do we fans bother, no-one at the club reads these comments, why should they, they couldn't care less!
Brightonwolf
I'm up for giving Stalle a chance, the main problem is Mox & Morgs (and TC). As was clear last year they actually believe our players ARE good enough, including the continually woeful defence! They still think we can do it on the cheap with these players, most of whom can't even be bothered anymore. Should have sorted this yonks ago, it needs to be sorted NOW otherwise, the longer we leave it, the harder to 'bounce' back. As for JAr & Fletch, sure get the best price but don't stop building the team whilst negotiating....!!! Or is this just an excuse for Mox and Morgs to hold on to that beloved cash.

I am sure the vast majority of football fans understand the importance of a side having real pace in modern football.Swansea demonstrated this perfectly in their demolition of QPR on Saturday.Jez Moxey sat in the Director's box throughout the 2003/4 season and saw with his own eyes the raw pace of Henri Camara:that was the reason he got his £5m for him.Yet during Mike McCarthy's time he wanted to sign on different occasions,Roultledge,Sinclair and Moses.Did Jez sign any of these players with real pace,.like hell he did.He failed to agree a fee or the wages, etc. In a nutshell that is why we will never be successful, until we get someone on the Board who actually knows something about football.Stale may well identify good players to sign, with pace hopefully, but will we actually sign them up?
Farmer Ted
From his prematch interview it's clear that the next fortnight is important to Solbakken. He needs to get the unhappy players out and some new blood in before he can move forward.
I thought we played some impressive possession football at times and the two loan signings both looked promising. However that awful defence with Johnson and Stearman taking it in turns to fall asleep, Zubar asleep for most of the match and upfront Doyle and Ebanks Blake were totally ineffective. Remember this was a patched up Leeds side too.
Things look bleak at the moment, but, football can change quickly.

196 - PJB, or maybe the fact that so many managers haven't ditched him shows that he is not an idiot - don't you think they might be in a better position to judge than you? Half the posters mentioning him on here say it's his fault we were poor and the other half say Stale isn't listening to him - just typical of the negative, find the whipping boy attitude.

I guess no one has remembered one of the first things that was said when we got our new manager. It's going to take time to adapt to a new style of play.
Robert Perry
Its a long season lets get the first dozen games out the way before we pass judgement. The transfers in and out between now and the end of the window will tell you all you need to know about Morgan's intentions for the team. My prediction? Fletcher and Jarvis will go on the last day leaving us no time to buy anyone.
Trevor Campion
Same old Wolves no defence, did you see the goal all of Wolves defence on the near post with Leeds fowards completely free, when will we learn to play. We also had no idea upfront but what's different I tell you somethings will have to happen if Wolves want to keep their supporters, the management had promissed so much to everyone and we were all looking forward to the new season, now what a start. Come on Wolves let's see something hopeful on Tuseday Night
ExWolfCub
However good a manager might be, if you give the manager the same tools and equipment and materials that had failed previous managers, then the same results will prevail
Systems, statisctics and other triviais do not mean a thing. All you require is a manager who is firm but fair and players who understand what football is about. On Saturday in the second half, three Wolves players stood in a triangle passing to each other and more impressive was they did not have to stop the ball to pass it. Well done? The trouble was that they never moved in any direction, it was pure training ground stuff whilst awaiting the training to begin. Yes they did lose the ball to the opposition
Does any body at the club know waht the game is about? It reminds me of my army career, I was classified as a marksman, No, I did not fire a shot in anger, it was carried on the firing range.
We need a captian of the calbre of Cullis Wright or Mike Baily. A manager with the vision of Cullis Bring back Bill McGarry?
Mr Moxey and Mr Morgan, be fair to the fans.

So what good advice is TC giving Stalle.
Surely your number 2 has to be someone you can rely upon for advice.
Board insists he stays for continuity.
So what is there to look forward to under the new manager.
Lets see how he does when neither Jarvis or Fletcher are sold, as they are being priced out of the Market.
Fletcher for £15M or Louis Saha for free?
Mmm let me think.

TC is 'dead man' walking - we all know it including TC. Stale will move him on/out in his own time.
Stale is wary after his Cologne experience where he alienated too many people by trying to make changes too quickly - give him time.
Are you actually saying it would be bad news for Stale if Fletcher and Jarvis stayed?
You can motivate both by telling them they can go in January - they need to be playing well to get a move.
The price set for both players may be too high but we don't need to sell so why not ask for big fees?
wolfman
think the only thing that is same old same old is the fans, did you really believe that the state of the club and team were going to be put right in 5 minutes, it's going to be a long haul. we just need to remain behind stale and given time we can progress to where we need to be. we certainly dont want return to the top flight until we are fully adapted to playing a brand of football that will not cause us great distress and embrassment like the last 2yrs in the prem. so lets be patient for once and give the team every possible bit of encouragement so we can all reap the rewards.

Oh Dear
I am EXTREMELY concerned and have been since pre-season.
The quality is moving in the wrong direction, out rather than into the club.
Where's the money gone that we got from selling players?
Where's the investment?
Why, when our defence is crap do we keep them?
To keep the same formula and to expect different results is the sign of insanity.
THANK GOD I didn't buy a season ticket (x 3) for me and my girls!
Nor will I be going until there's something worth watching.
INVEST if you want to go up. Stay as you are if you want to go nowhere and expect the fans to keep pumping their hard earned wages into watching garbage.
Amo
I am a Leeds fan who attended the game & is based in the Midlands. I know a number of Wolves fans who have been in doom and gloom since relegation and never thought that they would get a result against us. There needs to be a whole change of thinking at the club and you do need to get rid of a number of players- even your better players.
As it seems the players are used to losing and not positive to go about turning around your fortunes. I think we bossed the first half and you had the majority of the ball in second half but didnt create alot- you had 1 chance on target all game. Peszko seemed a good player & looked lively.
I say we deserved the win and I doubt that you will make a promotion push this year as you have so many players unhappy and if they dont leave that will ruin team spirit. De Vries, Berra, Milias, Jarvis & Fletcher should all go sooner rather than later.

Again I think your projected scenario is probably an accurate prediction. Hope we're both wrong but the likely outcome is that they'll (M&M) play pretend with loans "with a view to permanent signing" and more freebies / cheapies a la Nouble and Tank. Meanwhile Leigh Griffiths and Johnny Gormann are making headlines elsewhere because someone else is paying their wages. As alreday pointed by many posters Kites and Guardioura already on the score sheets on Sat. whilst we continue to fire blanks and expect to see more of the same from Sam Vokes and Hammill when he finds a new club. Fletcher / Jarvis money will be spirited away over a "respectable" period of time (ie untraceabe).

Having a real battle trying to decide if to go to the game on tues night or not. I have stated to friends that I'm not giving any more of my hard earned money to wolves until clowns like stearman have gone. But after Saturday, what it really boils down to, is will i be entertained? Sadly the answer is No! I know some people will say that you should follow the club regardless, but i just can't bring myself to go. The only entertainment i will get is the comments and quips from some of the other fans. Last season there was a brief spell against Sunderland and villa, the fans loved it, it was great, but it's far far too little and we deserve more!

I read that the Manager was "satisfied" with the performance V Leeds.
One shot on target wont win any game , the match was live into Melbourne Australia thank goodness at 9.45pm, I felt for all those supporters who went to Elland Road in Gold and Black.
A terrible performance, lacked everything, most looked like they were not interested, or took any care sure its one thing to pass the ball around, it's flippin useless unless you can get it in the NET !!!!!!!!!

221. Bodmin, just ignore him mate , he's an idiot. He certainly doesn't carry the opinion of the vast majority of us, in fact, he is in a minority of one! He lives in a sad little world, behind his rose tinted glasses, and probably thinks we'll be promoted and challenging for a CL spot next year. I think most right thinking Wolves are very envious of west Brom at the moment, and are hoping for play off at best for us. I can only see mid table to be honest, but then again, I'm sure Billy Quiet will have us as runaway champions. So apologies again Bodmin, perhaps he just missed his medication?

Having just read Stale's comments about the size of the squad (too large = discontented players), it is obvious that he is telling it as it is. That is, there are a considerable number of players who are unhappy because they know they are not the future as Stale sees it and they need to leave. I suspect some of the names he has in mind are not necessarily the same as those some of us are thinking about. This is definitely a rebuilding season and a lot is at stake, and that includes Stale's professional reputation. I stand by what I said on another occasion, we need the next two transfer windows before we are ready to really go again. Sadly.

I hope all Wolves' fans give Berra a chance tonight. He is the only player we have, apart from perhaps Elokobi, who is comfortable playing left side central defence. In my opinion it is the right decision to play him as partner to Johnson.I don't like his comments that there is no way he will resign for us,and I think he will do a Kenny Miller and sign on a free for Celtic next year. But in my opinion his partnership with Johnson is the best we have got at this minute.
