Injured Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessey today urged the club to pull out all the stops to keep their top stars as he revealed his own two-month fitness target.

The Wales international hopes to return to full training in October after suffering a torn cruciate knee ligament at the end of last season.

And he is hoping many of the other top names in the Molineux squad can be persuaded to stay with the offer of money-spinning new contracts.

Michael Kightly has already left for Stoke, Steven Fletcher has hit the club with a transfer request while Matt Jarvis has been linked with a move away.

Speaking during an autograph-signing session with midfielder Karl Henry at the refitted Dudley Street club shop, Hennessey said: “We’ve got great ability in the team.

“I know there are a lot of clubs offering big money for our good players and hopefully Wolves can get them to stay because we need our best players here in this league so hopefully we can keep them.

“I’m sure if we give them the right money they’d stay.

“They love Wolves but if another club comes in with more money and gives them better opportunities they’ve got to take it.

“But I think Wolves need to keep their best players.”

Hennessey, meanwhile hopes to return to full training by October – six months after he suffered his serious knee injury against Sunderland.

The 25-year-old is back in light training and believes he is on course to be available well before Christmas after picking up the injury in April.

“It’s going very well,” said Hennessey. “They’re saying I’m ahead of schedule, which is very good with a cruciate operation. I’ve got two-three months of hard rehab left and at the moment I’m feeling very good.

“I have good days and bad days but at the moment I have more good than bad so it’s really good.

“I am out with the goalkeeping coach about four times a week doing normal stuff and I’m back diving again now. It’s just getting up and down and up again that I struggle with at the moment with my knee, but it’s coming on well.”
