Michael Kightly says Stoke are a club “moving in the right direction” after signing at the Britannia.

The 26-year-old wide man, signed from relegated Wolves for a £3m fee, says he is impressed with how Stoke established themselves as a Premier League club under manager Tony Pulis.

Kightly said: “It’s a great club, an established Premier League club, so I am delighted to be here.

“Any footballer wants to play at the highest level and I am grateful to Stoke for giving me the chance to stay in the Premier League.”

Pulis hopes Kightly can  help solve scoring problems. Stoke’s 36 goals was the lowest tally in the league.

He said wingers, Matthew Etherington and Jermaine Pennant had been brilliant but they went off the boil in terms of goalscoring last season.
