Wolves facing Leeds kick-off to season

Stale Solbakken kicks off his Wolves career with a trip to Neil Warnock’s Leeds as his side start their season with a stiff test of their Championship promotion credentials on August 18.

Stale Solbakken kicks off his Wolves career with a trip to Neil Warnock’s Leeds as his side start their season with a stiff test of their Championship promotion credentials on August 18.

The Molineux men’s first visit to Elland Road since September 2006 – when Jay Bothroyd hit a specatular winner – is followed by a home game against Barnsley on Tuesday, August 21 as Wolves start with a Yorkshire double-header.

The first all-Midlands clash of the campaign comes four days later with the visit of Derby to complete the first month of the new season for Wolves.

Former Wolves boss Dave Jones gets an early chance to return to his old club after winning promotion with Sheffield Wednesday when the Owls visit Molineux on September 29.

Wolves’ first West Midlands derby is at home to Birmingham on December 8, with the return at St Andrew’s on April 1.

They kick off the festive season with a trip to play-off finalists Blackpool on December 22. They have successive home games over Christmas, with Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough on Boxing Day followed by the visit of Ipswich on December 29.

The long trip to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace follows on New Year’s Day.

Wolves’ first clash against a fellow relegated club is away to Blackburn on October 6, and another follows swiftly with the visit of Bolton on the 23rd.

Solbakken’s men have to wait until their last game of the season to make their first trip to Brighton’s Amex Stadium on May 4. Seagulls boss Gus Poyet was targeted in the race for Mick McCarthy’s successor.

Stale the Viking

Ho happy days!

yorkshirewulf

Dirty Leeds - bring it on, can't wait. 20 miles down the road - i want my tickets now.

Silver Wolf

A new season, a new manager, new challenges, and who knows maybe a few wins?

Good luck to Ståle and his team!

Baggyjon

Not such a bad start to season, still has the feel of a premiership game!!

Matthew

Yer Boiiii! Blackpool away here we come!

Albrighondek

I'm sure that Leeds supporters will be thinking that they face a "stiff test" against Wolves. Let's kick-off next season in a positive mood.

Staale has a couple of months to reshape the squad. We already know one likely new recruit. He need to bring a few more in, and in particular some quality defenders.

Morley Wolf

Only live 3 miles from ground, but be warned....

£42 for a ticket !!!!! Thats what ive been told Cat A is being charged by Leeds.

Bring the dirty Leeds on, Battle with the inlaws commence

Big Bad Wolf

One positive about being in the championship. We may get to see us win some games this season. Be interesting to see the changes in the first team. Hopefully strengthening the defence will be a priority.

Remember how Kites and Jarvo tore Championship defences apart last time we were here. Only worry there is they will be up against plodders like Neil Collins that will try and boot them off the pitch. Hopefully SEB will find his goalscoring touch again!

stan1978

Yorkshire Wolf where in yorkshire you based im up here as well. Bradford

JIWAL

4..Baggyjon

I think 19 of the 24 teams have been in the Premier League at some stage. Nightmare division to get back out of

greg

This is a great game to start with.We will go down to Elland Road and start off with a good 3 points

PeteNuts

I for one will be very pleased to have an early opportunity to put one over on the odious Ken Bates, vile creature that he is. Is there a more detestable human being in operation in football right now, outside of the fair Mr Blatter?

Dave Wamfield

Can't wait for Opening day, as a Wolves fan living in Leeds, I can give lots of grief to all the dirty Leeds fans at work and the fact I'll get to see Neil Warnocks grumpy face on local news for the few days after just makes even more satisfying!!

Cheltenham Wolf

When you look at the fixtures after being relegated its hard not to see win after win..lol xmas could be good and our run in might see us up.

Id take decent football and a season of top 6 lets just hope the haters don't start straight away if we only take a point at Leeds!!!

UTW

mardygitljgm

Great start to the season, Leeds away,i just want the fans to stop chanting, WHO ARE YOU!!! because all it does is work the opposition a up. COME ON YOU WOLVES.

Ye Olde South Bank

Great! Just the kind of game to get the juices flowing. We've got plenty of history with dirty Leeds. Shame we don't kick off with a home game, but bring it on. Cor wait!

yorkshirewulf

@9 stan1978 i'm in York - most of my mates are dirty Leeds so the banter will be massive

Sir Billy Quiet

I still can't get over the FA cup semi final defeat in 1973 at Maine Road against Leeds.

John Richards hitting the post......so close, probably as close as we have been to an FA Cup final in my lifetime.

We got our revenge when we beat them and handed the title to Derby County - what a night at Molineux that was, great days.

Bring it on!

Dai the Goat

The Championship - most exciting league in Europe! I for one can't wait for the new season, fresh faces and perhaps a new more thoughtful style of football (ha! last time I said that was before Hoddle started!!!)

milenium man

Cant miss this game. Away, first match of the season at leeds this is like a cup final to me.

Grogphil

We all hate Leeds! and as for the manager !!!!!!!

Fat Sid

Some ridiculous over optimism here.We were awful last season and couldn't beat Birmingham over 2 games. It could take Stale most of the season to sort out what is a poor team and then a promotion push in 2013/14.

Sir Lupi

The end of season run in looks decidedly tricky to me.

March

30 Middlesbrough (H) Tough

April

1 Birmingham (A) Tricky

6 Bolton (A) Very tough

13 Huddersfield (H) Tricky

16 Hull (H) Tricky

20 Charlton (A) Tricky

27 Burnley (H) 3 pts no sweat

May

4 Brighton (A) 3 points some sweat!

Sigh.......I do wish we were still in the Premiership.

Irishwolf

Great game to start us off won't be surprised if sky move it to 530 or Sunday lunchtime

Stato's Boring Brother

Great - 16 posts so far and none from the usual whingers. Have they gone away? I hope so but I doubt it.

Here's a little suggestion for all the whingers and moaners out there - please do not post any negative comments between now and the start of the season and save all your abuse for Leeds, their obnoxious manager Neil Warnock and their awful chairman Ken Bates.

I'm sure if you do that, a couple of thousand Wolves fans would blow the roof off Elland Road and drown out the Leeds fans. That's assuming that the whingers and moaners will actually go after threatening never to watch the Wolves again, tear up their season ticket etc, etc etc last season.

UTW

jimmy's paige

Ahhhh! Back in our comfort zone at last. Like a breath of fresh air. However, if we keep passing back to the goalkeeper from the kick off - we can sample the league below. You never know - it might be more comfortable than this one.

bilodave

25 Stato's boring etc. no there were not any whingers until you started it! Don't keep whinging about whingers!!

Wolf

25 looks like you are the only whinger on here

Threads like yours start it off so don't bother posting

Brownhills wolf

Tough start there but thats how it is.

Not sure about the most exciting league in the world though???

Must admit I wish we had a system like West Brom as it's a proven winner.

Jesus H Craddock

Best thing about that fixture list:

Saturday 3 o'clock

Bilodave ... stop whinging about the whingers whinging at the whingers ;)

Chris White

Absolute cast iron Guarantee that this will be live on Sky or BBC looking at rest of opening days fixtures

Stale the Viking

Was so hoping that we would get Cardiff last game at the mol so we can show'em how to lift a trophy..but Brighton will do party on the bach after the game wiv my fellow wolves ho happy days!

AZucklandKiwiWolf

I'm not going to get too carried away just yet.A lot depends on whether Stale buys some decent defenders or not.Thats our priority i feel. There are some mean and hungry teams in that Division.

johnny

theres one thing great about the championship all the teams in with a chance of promotion not like the premiership same teams at the top all the while.

bring it on lets get behind the team they will need it to get out of this league.

Stan the Man

Yorkshire Wolf, I Live in Bradford, but work in Leeds cannot wait buzzing. but some right banter at work today as well.

Farnham Wolf

We shall win at Leeds. Mr. Warnock is past his prime, it would seem and Stale - who has the look of an AllBlacks coach about him - will most definitely start as he means to carry on.

Messrs Jarvis, Fletcher and Hennessey must also surely believe that winning almost every week as we did in 2008-09 is unbelieveable fun, as distinct from scrabbling for points with an unreliable premiership club.

bilodave

Jesus H Craddock. Whinge do... sorry, will do!

chris hoggard

Sir Billy,Didn't John Richard's shot hit one post, move all along the line, hit the other post and then come out? The win at Mol which gave Derby the title was the year before that semi,so not really revenge for it.But we beat them in the FA Cup qtr final at Elland Road in 1998.Don Goodman, one nil.Great day out that was.

golden wolf

29. A system like West Brom? Losing the best Manager they had in yearsand replacing him with an Assistant from Liverpool who have just had their worst season in donkeys years, their Captain is soon to be leaving, their best player has said he fancys a move to Spurs or Newcastle and the brains behind it all looks like he'll be off for a cushty job at the FA soon?

I think Jarvis will be sold soon and good luck to the lad. I hope Stalle can get rid of Berra, Johnson and I would cash in on Henry. Time for Guedioura, Hammill and Batth to start getting in the side and a fresh, new youthful approach like Micks first season.

ajb_wolves

£42 to watch the same under performers as last year. This Yorkshire wolf probably watch Spurs at Newcastle !

Stato's Boring Brother

27 Bilodave & 28 Wolf - Sorry, having reread my earlier post I did get a bit carried away with my rant.

The point I was trying to make is that we ought to turn our frustrations outwards rather thn inwards and then we could become that mythical "12th man" that players and managers talk about.

I know its a long time ago but I was working in London at the time we played Palace in play offs and one of thier fans told me the following week that we generated the most intimidating atmospere he had ever seen (including local derbies) and it seemed like the whole world was against them.

We have that atmosphere for 3 or 4 matches or parts of matches in a season and it would be great if we had it for every single home match.

Mr Moxey - can we have the liquidator back to get the crowd warmed up? - I promise won't swear ;)

Whispy Wolf

I, for one , am hoping to pay me money and see a few wins!

Stale, Stale , He's Bald n Pale!

Bring it on

chris hoggard

Stato, I suspect the Palace fan was just patronising you, they thumped us didn't they something like 4 or 3 -1.They had pace and power ,I seem to recall. There is no substitute for quality footballers.Get the right players and the rest will follow, and it will also stop all the moaners on here. That is something Moxey in his 12 years at Wolves, has never understood or more likely not wanted to understand.

Trojan

Leeds away never good , also Barnsley have been waiting for us , no not the best of starts .

Solentwolves

We know it is not going to be easy - but we have to hope. I'd like us to get back to the PL in one season, but if it takes two and results in a more secure situation than was the case last time, I could settle for that.

essexboywolf

One of the guys at work is a Leeds fan.

He says a lot of the Leeds fans think its funny that some of us are worried about playing there...

Keep Jarvo and Fletch. Sigurdarson in. Sort out the defence. Another championship title is ours...

Having a glass half full kind of day here in sunny Donny. :-) UTW!

Stato's Boring Brother

43 Chris - I was talking about the home leg. We had lost 3-1 down there (I seem to remember we scored late but they got another in injury time but I could be mistaken as I'd had 2 or 3 pints. We beat them 2-1 at home and the whole ground was hopping except for their corner of the South Bank. I think it was Dougie Freedman who score for them - not something he did that much when he signed for us.
