No move for Matt Jarvis, Wolves insist

Wolves today stood firm over Matt Jarvis despite increased speculation regarding a bid from West Ham.

Wolves today stood firm over Matt Jarvis despite increased speculation regarding a bid from West Ham.

The Hammers are rumoured to be interested in the one-time England winger but Molineux chief executive Jez Moxey today repeated his stance that no formal offer had been made for any Wolves players.

Jarvis and top scorer Steven Fletcher are expected to be hunted by a number of Premier League clubs this summer following Wolves’ relegation from the top flight.

purewolves

Please please please, Jarvis and Fletch stay with us I would be gutted if you left us.

Wolves Mick

Why would he want to leave for a smaller club ? Wolves will be back up next season with a fresh approach and a brighter future !!

Causeality

4 mill for a player who had more assists than a certain Downing who went to liverpool for 15mill plus, and lets not mention he scored 8 goals this term?

10m + might get a move but certainly not 4, so lets hope that the board stick by there statements of not having to sell players, unless ridiculous offers do come in.

Kights and Jarvo on the wing in the Championship will create enough chances for even Doyle to get double figures next term!!

spanishray

Jarvis and Fletcher are two players we must keep at all cost and I think if the paper story is right West Ham are bidding an insulting £4m.for Jarvis.Alardyce is having a laugh. We are,in my opinion, owed a bit of loyalty by these players after last seasons disaster. It is vital we regain promotion during next season, once again the fans are showing their loyalty and so must the players.

Judge Jeffries

I find this very hard to believe that Wolves will keep hold of him. He is too good for the Championship.

I would love to have the optimism to be proved wrong, but it sounds like the club saying he is available to the big clubs for big money.

The one truth is .... he is very unlikely to go to the likes of West Ham.

Wulvzs

Reported bid of £4m from West Scam!!!

Minimum of £10m and not a penny less.

JJ

I think all you wolves fans are a tad optimistic; quoting prices on former flops and then demanding ridiculous transfer fees... the 10m price tag you slap on Fletcher I think is warranted, the 10m+ you put on Jarvis, not so. £6m if you're lucky, I'd say.

alistair

It's speculationa nd till i see him where a West Ham shirt in a show him to the press Pic i don't believe it!!!

Come on WOLVES!

Stanley Motown

The moment of truth for the Chuckle Brothers.

We do not have debt hanging over us

No pressure to sell

The right offer, as highlighted earlier, the fee Downing commanded.

Time to treat the management of our club like a fruitful and growing business, implement forward thinking strategies on people management not those born of interference.

Or will we all get theat M&M feeling come August kick-off?

Kevin

No-one wants Jarvis or Fletcher to leave but let's be serious about this. They are both top-ten premership team players and you can bet their agents are working overtime to get the right move.

Players will come and go - we have to trust the new manager.

staffsWOLF

Who knows what system we will be playing next season - and therefore what type of player will fit in the team. As its unlikely to be a lone stricker (hopefully) there is room for 2 strikers and then 2 more in reserve.

Many have not had a fair chance in recent years and all of this group, which inlcude Sam and Leigh, plus a few more of the younger players should be watched and reviewed before determining who should go and who should stay.

The nonsense in the past was keeping [palyers on the books, sending them out on loan and then not recalling them when they could have been useful - such as Adam - give hem all a fair crack based on the style we are going to play - and then ship the rest out and buy more suitable and hopefully better players

UTW

Stale cake

If he has any ambition at all he be on his bike, hopefully it's a fast one!!!!!!

stuey

No formal enquiry, but i guess there have been a few informal ones, for me any player has his price but i'd much prefer hammill to be sold rather than jarvis.

stourbridge wolf

Southampton just paid 7m for an unproven championship player rodrigez from burnley so anything less for jarvis is laughable

astleistheking

It annoys me that West Ham think they can bid silly money on good players and unsettle them. Who are they? they're not a big team, the fans are the most miserable I've come across.

They tried it with us when Graham Dorrens was at the top of his game. I'm glad he stayed.

gazchaz

Wolves Mick....you are kidding arent you?

1. They are massive

2. They are in Premiership

3. Jarvo is London boy

Any reasons why he wouldnt go?...i cant think of ONE.

merlinsnose

Keep Jarvis at all cost, he and Kightly are our ticket out of the championship.

I wasnt impressed with Fletchers attitude at the end of the season. Sell him for whatever Sigurdarson costs us, plus 10 million. With those funds we should be able to get a couple of decent defenders and an experienced gaffer in midfield.

I wonder if there are any more gems Solbakken has his eyes on.

Craddockinho

Add new manager.

Manchester City.

Sign Roger Johnson for £50m.

Use money to keep star players and sign unknown wonderkids you read about on a forum.

DO THIS NOW MOXEY YOU NUMPTY!!!!!!!!!

OR IT WILL JUST BE LIKE MAD MICK ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

NO AMBITION!!!!!!!!

Jon the Saviour

To 7 JJ

This flop that you mentioned, still banged in more goals than the flops that have been moving clubs for £20 million plus.

Were in no position to sell, debt free may I add. So the ball is in the court of the small club west ham

Charlie

No 7 JJ ...We'll keep him then thanks! If we do sell it'll be for big money not the chicken feed you think we'll get. That's not optimism from us Wolves fans it's a fair reflection of the going rate for English players.

Gerry Taylor's kitman

Have we considered a season long loan to a premier team, or woulld this tend to be counter productive to those who stick with us in the championship ?

Jonny B

JJ, it's not what should be a fair price for Jarvis it's the fact our Board said we don't have to sell so with that in mind we should ask top dollar for the player until he demands a move, therefore the price of previous players of a similar or worst ilk is relevant as this is what is deemed to be the top dollar price.

I personnally would not let him go for less than £10 million unless he makes it clear that he wants to move to a certain club then you have to get the best you can out of that club and retain the bonuses the player would have been paid if you had just sold him, as eventually of the player wants to go they go.

Christopher

We can not let him go. If we want to get back up we need players like him. I can't even imagine the hate towards the board if they let anyone go unless a fee of 10/12 million is agreed. I know I would not even leave Molineux demanding to know what we would do to replace him and explane the lies they have given us.

FishyWolf

Of course Jarvis will be sold to West Ham for 4 Million and I suspect Fletcher to Sunderland for about 8 Million - You don't expect the two M's to do the right thing by Wolves do you, and they will blsme all the Wolves Fans for not renewing their Season Tickets leaving a shortage in the Budget - Oh Yes don't forget the old sold for an undisclosed Fee Line

Wolves Ay We !!!!!

Mills wolf

4 million wouldnt even buy Jarvo's left leg !

MIKETHEBIKE

ITS AS CERTAIN AS NIGHT FOLLOWS THAT FLETCHER AND JARVIS WONT BE AT MOLINEUX NEXT SEASON.

THESE TWO PLAYERS HAVE AMBITION AND PLAYING IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP DOESNT PROVIDE IT.

NO DOUBT JESTER MOXEY WILL KEEP DENYING THE TRANSFER RUMOURS BUT HOPEFULLY HE WONT HIDE ANYTHING FROM THE WOLVES FAITHFUL.

NOT MUCH INTEREST, IF ANY, IN THE REST OF THE CLOWNS WHO TOOK US DOWN BUT I WOULD IMAGINE EVEN A TENNER WOULD BE ACCEPTABLE FOR THE BLOOMSBURY SET.

No Bickering Now, Lads

It's a none story whacko's, don't you get it?

Matt

I really think that 16-20 million for the pair is a realistic sum, but that depends on how much the player kicks up a fuss and how much Stale wants to keep them. If the agents/players want to force through a move & Stale thinks its counter productive to the more loyal players you would let them leave for less. but even if you got 13-15 mil for the pair that would still go a long way in the championship.

NY Wolf

Over the next month we will all see and read endless stories of pure speculation. Within reason every player will be linked to most every club. Everything gets taken out of contect and regurgitated by the media.

What Moxey said was "We don't have to sell" It means just that, no more and no less.

Wolves do have a great reputation in being fair with players who have re-signed contracts. Lescott being an example.

What I dont understand and would like explained is how can Sunderland have made contact with Fletchers agent about a possible move, without Wolves permission. Thats is surely "tapping" and makes a nonsense of Contracts. All this stuff is just designed to unsettle players and work around contract rules.

Living in USA this is something unheard of in Sports especially the NFL, I dodnt know the exact rules but it is absolutely forbidden for teams openly talk about or even mention a players name who is under contract to another team. It just does not happen sure they get big deals when they move but absolutely no way can anyone unsettle players this way. It seems to me the League Soccer contracts are pretty worthless if Chelsea or Man City let it be known.

Stale the Viking

JJ Jarvis is still under contract to this club and therefore unless he puts in for a move he will remain at wolves so will Fletch.the price West Ham are rumored to have offered is an insult not just for the club but to Matt as well. if he does go it will be to one ov the top six clubs at a price that will suit wolves. do you honestly think he wants to fight relegation think again. if and a this is a big if he stays at wolves along with fletch and Doyle or Sigurdason the guy we are in talks with will be banging in goals for fun Relegation fight or promotion challenge no contest.

WOLVES AY WE!

danny

Wolves are not short of money 4million is a insult considering we paid a million for him from gillingham surely hes worth 4 times the amount got an england cap roasted top defenders

Wolfinblack

Quality English players are at a premium, Javis is far and away better than Downing.

West Ham are not worth going to, they could well be down again come the end of next season so why would anyone want to chance that one?

I feel they owe us just one season then move on should they wish.

But should they be sold, I can't see either Jarvis or Fletcher being replaced, that cash will be earmarked for rebuiling stands not staff.

getsomein

take no notice its just tecos trying to stir things up they wont be sold unless for silly money end of.

beaconwolf

Although Jarvis is worth much more than the quoted £4 mill it has to be remembered that Stale played a rigid 4/4/2 formation in Germany, mostly with Reither and Clemens wide.

Neither are out and out wingers, and we have four in Jarvis,Kites,Hunt and Hammill.

So just how many will he want to keep out of those.

sd

post 30 stale the viking : contracts mean naff all in todays game you may as well use them for toilet paper pal, so it doesnt matter how many years fletch or jarvo are tied down to the club trust me they will be sold and for the pricely sum of ..... we will never know wait for it to be printed ... 'undisclosed fee' mark my words

Costa del Sol Wolf

No "formal offers" means their agents are probably still on holiday. Would love to see the two of them stay but once the transfer wheels move into motion..........

ashmore wolves

More paper talk drivel, 7 JJ gave me a laugh though!

London Bloke

Reality check- right now West Ham are on the up, WWFC have a lot to do to get back up. Jarvis is at best middle of the Prem quality on a good day. He played for England because the usual choices were injured or unavailable. He's not worth a lot more than £4 million I would reckon, £5 million tops.

Leave it to Solbakken to decide who he needs, not the posters on here.

Farmer Ted

It isn't all about Wolves having these players on long contracts and having the finacial clout not to have to sell. As many will realise they have agents at work, agents who have a vested interest in seeing large price tag moves. There is also the long standing belief that you don't want unhappy players in a dressing room.

Fact is that if and when either Jarvis or Fletcher are sold Jez Moxey will get it big time from the angry brigade.

One point. I see Matt Jarvis is now being referred to by the E&S as a "one-time England winger". Another 7 day wonder bites the dust, eh? They disappear as fast as newsprint these days.

CalgaryWolf

Jarvis would be mad to leave for West Ham. No improvement for him there. If non of the higher rated prem teams bid he should stay with us at least another season same as Fletch. No point joining a team that may struggle. Also both are worth more than some of the numbers mentioned by certain papers etc.

English Exile

Jez, you really shouldn't stop the lad going to a bigger club with more ambition than yours....

WW Fan For Life

No one has mentioned loyalty, their poor performance (Jarvis, Fletcher, etc) took us down the least they should do is try to take us back up.

Make them stay contractually, why should they prosper with better prem deals, I dont suppose it will happen but you can dream.

In any case I'm looking forward to a fresh start, hope the new man gets us off to a flyer!

rich5wolves

Jarvis gets in to some great positions but his crossing needs improvement. He can hit the goal occassionally and would be a good addition to a promoted teams squad or a mid table team, but for me the kind of money some people are mentioning on here could only be gained if he had that bit of extra quality when he gets to the line. Granted getting into the positions is his strong point.

bigbob

This isn't about what Wolves or the fans want. It will ultimately be about whether Jarvis, Fletcher and co want stay and play championship football or whether they see a paycheque in the premier league. It's the players and there agents who have the power now not the clubs and certainly not the fans.

bigbob

With regard to comparing the fee for Jarvis to Downing. The difference is that when Downing was sold he was a mid-table premier league player (Villa) and not a championship player (Wolves) looking to get away to enhance his international prospects. It's like buying something from House of Fraser or Poundland - you wouldn't expect to pay the same although the Poundland item may be just as good!!!

wolfshead

Jarvo has been with us since what, 07? He has served his time with us - two years Champo and three in the Prem. We have to ask how likely is it for him to want to go back to the Championship? No guarantee we'll be up in one, so he will have to consider his choices.

Jarvo and Kites drilling down the flanks in a 442, got to admit that would be some combo.

Alas maybe not, perhaps.

Stale the Viking

35 Sd I agree contracts mean nothing that's why i stated unless he asks for a move.

call me optimistic if you like but we will not sell unless he wants to move has anyone herd that he wants to leave unlike other teams who have been religated in the past as soon has the final ball as been kicked they slam a request to leave this has not happnd at wolves. i realy hope we cankeep him.

U.T.W

Sir Billy Quiet

Remember the stick Morgan and Moxey took for not appointing a manager after sacking McCarthy (rightly so)?

Its interesting now that the managerial merry go round seems to have stopped that Curbishley has again failed to find work?

Maybe we had a lucky escape by him turning us down - his now not worked for 5 years....

The other names on the list have not exactly been snapped up by bigger the clubs (or the Baggies).

I am happy that the club is going in a new direction - exciting times ahead....

Players come and go - they always will - sell high buy low.

UTW

Solentwolves

It's just a question of time I fear.

Contracts do mean a lot. No you can't keep a player who wants to go, but yes you can get a lot more money if you have him tied to a long contract rather than needing to sell before his contract runs out. I expect them both to go - it will be a huge bonus if we can keep even one of them, and yes I expect Jez will keep the details to himself.

Kenny Hibbitts Left Foot

Jarvis is worth at least double 4m but i wouldn't be surprised if he went for about six. I'm sure Moxey would see it as a good bit of business considering what we paid for him. Personally i dont know if he has the confidence to go to a bigger club, look at his dip of form after his England cap!!!

Come on me Babbies

chris hoggard

I see the new Premier TV rights have been awarded to Sky and BT commencing season2013/14.A 70% increase in revenue is applicable. What this roundly means, assuming a similar pro rata distribution as currently applicable, is that the minimum income for each Premier club will increase from circa £40m to £70m.If we fail to get promotion next season we will miss out on this massive income stream, and clubs like West Brom and Stoke will have ahuge financial advantage over us.There is no question whatsoever Steve Morgan and Jez Moxey should have concentrated 100% on strengthening the team to keep us in the Prem , rather than spend £24m on a new stand and training ground.Misplaced priorities;footballers not bricks. They have got 12 months to make amends.

wolves phill tamworth

No need to sell anyone, but we need to get rid of a few of the dead wood. we need to buy some qaulity and quick.

chris hoggard

Further to my post above, the Guardian are saying the minimum increase for each club each season will likely be a minimum of £14million ,since the rights tendered only cover the UK ,with the world wide rights not yet tendered. This will still mean each Premier side will be guaranteed a minimum of roundly £55million each season. To put it into perspective our total gate receipts for 2010/11 were less than £10million.

johnnyrichards

25. you beat me to it i was going to say £4m that would buy his weaker left leg! we dont need to sell but if we do it will be at damn sight more than that.

31. We actually paid £500k for Jarvis, even still £4m is an insult.

34. if he does play 4-4-2 and we get what we want for Jarvis £8m then we've got enough quality to replace him.

PJB

Acid test time for Morgan to show how much commitment he has to WWFC. If we are selling the Crown Jewels we need to have replacements before they leave. Otherwise hold them to their contractual (and moral) obligations.

Let's see some positive intent for the future from Morgan and Moxey. Time will tell.

Sir Billy Quiet

sd - have you had chance to look at the Wolves accounts yet? - I can't be bothered (I leave it all to Jez) but you seem so very concerned about the clubs finances it will be well worth your while to get some solid information under your belt.

Contract Law would be another subject you could do with spending some time on.

By the way have you got your 'early bird' sorted - Jez needs the money for his summer holidays......

MartinUAE

I should hope Jarvo feels insulted at only being rated at 4 million. If that's what West Ham think he's worth why would he want to go to a team with such a poor opinion of his value?

We should respect those players who have showed their commitment to Wolves through performances and effort. We should also respect their ambition. For the right price everyone is for sale. By the same token they should respect what Wolves have done for them and not be disruptive and hand in transfer requests.

I liked the idea of loaning out the likes of Fletcher and Jarvo rather than sell them if they have the opportunity to move to a decent Prem team.

AucklandKiwiWolf

I feel that it is inevitable that players like Jarvis and Fletcher will go.AS for coming straight back into the Premier, after the performances of last season,i find that hard. There are some good mean and hungry teams in the Championship.I fear that we may struggle.

Old Golds Worth More

No7 I suggest you read No3's post, then get real!! Not a West Ham Supporter by any chance are you?

HerefordWolf

jarvo owes us at least one more season wolves bought him into the big time and payed his wages while injured they should all stay and make up for there poor season and getting us relegated

out of darkness cometh light

be serious

Lets think about this

Jarvis = Footballer

Footballer = Greed and no loyalty

Would any of you stay at a club with no ambition ? = no chance

Would you go to a bigger club like West Ham because I assure you they are much bigger than us in every department.

+ atleast a 30 - 40 % increase on his earning and closer to home

The best we can hope for will be 6 mil + add ons. Fat Jez will make the fig undisclosed anyway so we will never know

Get real Wolves Fans our management have shown the world we no longer a club with serious ambition just a club that are happy to get relagated at the drop of a hat

chris hoggard

I see my earlier post before no 46 didn't make it.All I said was the new TV deal with a 70% increase ,demonstrates yet again that strategically it would have made more financial sense to have concentrated on team building to keep us in the Prem, rather than building new stands.Revenue from TV far exceeds gate receipts.

J♣ck the Hat.

The facts are:

∙ Fletcher and Jarvis are both ex-internationals.

∙ Their desire is to play Premiership football.

∙ Premiership clubs have/will come for them.

∙ Their agents will eye a good pay-day.

∙ Long contract or not the last say is theirs.

∙ Forget Silly money, it won't happen.

∙ The way your club is managed will make it very difficult next season, too antiquated.

As usual I persist in using my own nom de guerre, so your mods have the choice, just as your players do.

BOING~~~~BOING~~~~J♣H.

pw

Jack you are correct

howlingwolf

All you Jarvis supporters need to get a reality check. Jarvis is overated. He's a decent enough player but a long way from being Premiership quality and if he stays next season he will be where he belongs...in the Championship. He's fast and that's about all. His final ball is poor 9 times out of 10 and rarely clears the first defender. It says a lot about the state of English football when a player of Jarvis's limited talent is chosen to play.Like a few others he was only chosen because Capello was trying out different players.I wouldn't put any money on him adding to his one and only cap.Take four million quid for him and laugh all the way to the bank.

chris hoggard

Jack, Seems to me next season will be big one for both our clubs.Given the massive extra Sky money we need to be in the Prem for season2013/14.Clarke is probably as much a gamble as Staale.3 teams have got to go up and three teams have got to go down.

wolfshead

#52, chris hoggard, spot on, if ever there was a season not to fall out of the Prem the one just finished was it. Not just the Sky lolly, but just look at the amount of managerial change, which will surely play into the hand of second season syndrome (or third for some).

No doubt in my mind, season 2011 - 12 was the one to stay up. Prioritising stadium development over squad improvement has really cost us - serious amounts of money, let alone a very decent shot at continued Premier League status.

As we enter the new season further fruits of, eh, prudent financial management, will doubtless fall from the tree.

GreenWolf

57 - SBQ - you're either just winding SD up or not reading his posts properly. He has said on at least two occasions that he is off to Australia with his mates in protest at the mess the Fat Controller and Steve Morgan have got this club into.

He's therefore quite obviously not buying a season ticket.......unless he is going to fly back from Aus to see the games or he is actually trying to pull the wool over our eyes.....I can't believe anyone would try to do that on here

I've posted before that I get the accounts each year from Companies House and I'm fairly comfortable with how they pan out. I'd post a bit of info but as they're copyrighted I'd rather people spend the £2 to get them than me end up in a legal wrangle for disclosing information. There's two companies and the latest accounts are up to the end of May 2011 and they're only £1 each. Great bedtime reading.

I've offered my services to SD to explain what all the numbers mean, but he hasn't taken me up on it yet.

pw

Never Mind we will have some words of comfort from the Worlds No 1 Left back shortly, on who's fault it will be tonite, when my home country play Spain .

ChrisT

hmm, seems like the bids have started then, but come on!!! 4m for Jarvis?!? surely that's laughable at best. if, and that's a big if, we can keep him and kights, add zele Ismail into the mix next season, that's some exciting wing play. personally, I feel if we can attract this fella from Norway, add a midfielder who can actually dictate the tempo, then sort out the defence (RJ & Elokobi out, 2xLB's in, 1 RB), then I'd really be looking forward to next season. UTW.

J♣ck the Hat.

(63)

I can't see for the life of me why Sir Jack's ground needed altering at present. wolves could have extended the wing seating, put in place a Wembley type roof, bought several players in to keep you in the Premiership and still had cash left over, instead of trying to build two new stands and training facilities. Those things could have waited a while, like the Steve Bull stand. Those items weren't urgent. What a waste especially now wolves have been relegated. Being able to do it cheaper in this recession is brainless and has wasted a great deal of forthcoming Premiership money and status, so where is the gain I ask Mr. Morgan.

BOING~~~~BOING~~~~J♣H.

Chris,

I beg to differ on your manager and our Head Coach, you see Steve has had years of grounding in the Premiership, Stale has only played short term with Wimbledon, I'm led to believe. There is a big difference there I think you will agree. Also our Technical and Sporting Director Dan Ashworth is hardly a newbie.

BOING~~~~BOING~~~~J♣H.

CJ

I agree with the comment that Jarvis is slightly over rated he can probably beatany full back in tghe league but his final product is a bit hit and miss. However if you look at how much the going rate for a left winger is at the moment take Downing as an example signed for £15 million then surely he is worth atleast half that amount looking at how both performed last season in comparison.

I think the key is to hold out to get as much as possible as £3/4 million is not the going rate. Also on that point the price of flectcher shpuld be atleast £12 million i mean saints have spent £7 million on an untried young goalscorer whereas fletcher has proven quality !!!!
