Wolves in Early Bird sales boost

Stale Solbakken’s appointment as manager has helped give Wolves a near-2,000 bump in Early Bird season ticket sales for the Championship campaign ahead.

Stale Solbakken’s appointment as manager has helped give Wolves a near-2,000 bump in Early Bird season ticket sales for the Championship campaign ahead.

The club reopened the scheme three weeks ago following the appointment of the 44-year-old coach from Norway, who begins his regime in earnest next month.

And it has triggered an additional 1,871 purchases to give Wolves a baseline of 14,375 season ticket holders before any extra sales in the build-up to the mid-August start to the Championship campaign.

Wolves took the unprecedented step of reopening the scheme, also available for the first time this year to new applicants as well as existing season ticket holders, after Solbakken’s appointment.

And chief executive Jez Moxey hailed the idea a success. He said: “We are delighted that so many have taken advantage.

“After careful consideration, the board decided that there were a unique set of circumstances in play which meant it was, on balance, the right decision to reopen the scheme for this limited period.

“As a result, 1,871 additional fans pledged their support for Championship football at Molineux next season.

“That in no way detracts from our gratitude to those supporters who had taken advantage of the Early Bird offer during the initial window without knowing which division we were going to finish up in.”

The fans have put there hands in the pockets now it's Morgans turn

wonderwulf

Thats nearly 14500 people who obviously have nothing better to do, or simply want to get away from their misses like I do for a day every other week....

The 'bald eagle' in charge has certainly got something about him, it'll be interesting to see what the team shapes up like next year... I REALLY hope he gets rid of the dead wood unlike all the other managers we have had over the past 10 years...

Start a-fresh, with players who want to be at the club, thats the way forward.

Good things expected and Great Business Jez-- Now get the rest right-

The fans are showing their loyalty once again, now it`s your turn Morgan.Stop Moxey interfearing on the football side and put your money where your mouth is for once.A good clearout is wanted besides keeping the top players along with good players being brought in and we may get that first attempt return to the Premiereship.

ColeshillWolves

In a recession hit area that is rife with unemployment, I would suggest that by the start of the season there will be 15000 STH's and that in the Championship, is a healthy figure. I have a feeling that Solbakken's appointment will be a good one but we need to sort out our transfer dealings quickly and address our very poor defence, as a priority.

I expect Albion to dip a lot due to key players wanting to go and the new managerial appointment. Villa will fare slightly better but have a poor squad and Blues who punched above their weight last season due to a top quality manager will struggle to get in the top 6 again. Wolves, however, with the right signings, should comfortably be able to do that as a minimum?

Mills wolf

Bringing in Bjorn Sig will is what you need to do to reward the loyalty no expense spared just give the fans the trophy signing.

If this turns out to be nothing other than a early bird spin once again and we dont bring him in it will be the very last time i fork out for a season ticket as i dont like being blagged.

will still go to matches just not all of them so dont start...

Fozzy Bear

Had a word with my mate Jez and he asked me to put it simply.

Yes we cocked up big style and we really are very, very sorry. We thank all you who originally bought Early Bird, but, I'd be accused of not doing my job properly (again) if I didn't take advantage of this wave of optimism that's gently blowing through the Mol.

Hey look it's worked !..... more season ticket sales and a promise that we will invest in a team worthy of winning the Championship first time !

Now let's kiss and make up....no tongues in mouths, mind !

PeteNuts

How has the appointment of Stale Solbakken "helped"? Did any of those 1.871 fans think to themselves, "Stale Solbakken, eh? Well, now that he's in the driving seat, I have decided to put my hand in my pocket! Here's two many long and successful years, Stale!"?

I'm guessing that those 1,871 fans have simply managed to scrape together the necessary funds in these difficult, depressed times and decided to take the plunge. Let's hope that they are plunging into warm, inviting waters - and not the shivering, icy permafrost of misery that the last 35 games of last season became...

chris hoggard

1 Jez really ought to be in a poliitics,'unique set of circumstances ' indeed, when what he really means is'needs must'.Still think they should send a discount voucher for the new club shop for all those fans who purchased first time around. It is called goodwill Jez.Spend a bit to get more back in the future.

2 Well done Jo Lescott. If only we still had him.

I've had a season ticket since1993. I have Taken up the early bird every year. I renewed again this year before I knew what division we were going to be in. The decision to reopen the offer is a slap in the face to supporters like me. Those of us who renewed during the season should be given something additional ie the first cup game for free or money to spend in the club shop.

Well moxey you wont fool me again i dont believe you like stoke supporters didnt but never mind youve foooled all the happy clapping morons again i will never go to wolves again till you and your brother in law (terry conner as gone)

The appointment of Solbakken has helped without a doubt. Many of us thought we were going to be landed with Terry Cluless or a managerial gem such as Megson or Ince.

We don't know an enormous amount about our Norwegian friend but reading his CV at least gives us cause for optimism and the fact we're going to try something different.

What a shame that they couldn't have sold another six, then we could have had a boring Express and Star story on the remarkable coincidence that the figure matched the year of formation zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Couldn't agree more. What are the true loyal fans getting. My wife and I paid £1000 back in March and showed our true committed and loyalty to Wolves only to have found out that we could have kept our money for another couple of months.

I can understand why they have done it, I just feel that they should reward the supporters that committed to wolves in March.

Agree with 10 & 12 I renewed my early bird earlier in the year & due to financial commitments at the time I paid an extra £40 direct debit charge to renew me & my sons season ticket. However I am now in a position where I would be able to pay the full amount & feel that some gratitude to the early purchasers should be made by the club either in free cup tickets or a club shop voucher.

Forgot we are talking about Mr Moxey giving something back!!!

Roaring Boy

On Talk Sport Jez Moxey (aka Derek Brannan) said there would be a root and branch inquest as to last season debacle. Sweept under the carpet and forgotten about me thinks. Anybody else thought that would happen? Appoint a new manager ASAP they will soon forget. It will be the same squad with 1 or 2 exceptions. Moxey putting on more spin. Last season has gone 1 player however did they think they were going to stay up adding 1 drunken centre half. Centre Midfield, Henry always going to get sent off 3 match ban every season, plus when he gets injured who else was there? Played Russian Roulette with Swansea and Norwich taking up 2 relegation places. Just had to fight for the other - That back fired.

Tuesday - Saturday every week cant wait until the rest of the country only takes interest in the fizzy pop league when they look at who is going into Premiership.

Granthamwolf

14. Supporters like you won't be missed. This club is bigger than Moxey ... get behind the boys

ColeshillWolves

14) Who do you think you are calling people happy clapping morons? Proper Wolves fans have witnessed far worse than last season and seen much worse teams - Herbert, Zelem, Eli etc.

I too dislike Moxey but it will not stop me going home and away and support the new manager!

bilodave

14 Vindaloopi I respect your views but don't label all those people "happy clapping morons", they are not. If Moxey lets us down (again) in the transfer market they may prove to have been overly optimistic but thats no crime. If management get it right (and its a big if I accept) I am optimistic for this season and after (fingers crossed).

Phil Smith

Once again they want money up front on the promise of a fantastic product.

I personally think they have a nerve charging premier league prices for, as it stands, division one football.

I've been a season ticket holder for thirty years, but enough is enough.

I wish Stale all the luck in the world and I hope the stratergy of doing everything on a shoe string pays off.

The fact of the matter is this. If I was spending serious money on a car I would test drive it first.

No money from me up front guys. Lets judge the product first and see if its value for money.

Let's hope so.

No one would be more happy than me to hand over money to to you, but its based on the quality of the product you deliver now guys not the empty promises we've been used to.

Grogphil

No 12 Wolves81.

Didn't you receive your free straight jacket with your ticket? They are not playing me for a mug anymore!

JIWAL

Didn't we have 19000+ season tickets holders last year...only Moxey could tell us that a 25% drop in supporters is a success. I know we have dropped a division, but at least we now get 23 games for the same money, but really, losing 5000 fans is nothing short of economic disaster

Moxey out!

Kenny Hibbitts Left Foot

I think Mr Moxey was right to reopen the early bird as sales were really down (understandably)and the "different" appointment of SS has created a bit more interest and a releif we haven't gone down the old dinasaur route again so its good business. Is there anymore news about him bringing in his own assistant and what about this director of football thing???

Come on me Babbies

Phil

Totally disagree with the following comment in the article:

“That in no way detracts from our gratitude to those supporters who had taken advantage of the Early Bird offer during the initial window without knowing which division we were going to finish up in.”

It's a disgrace that in these hard economic times the club has effectively penalised those loyal fans that renewed during the original early bird offer!!!!

If I had known that the offer would be reopened in June then I would of waited until now and I'm sure many of the other loyal fans that renewed back in Feb / March would have done the same.

Filthy Wolf

Some of the negative comments must astonish REAL Wolves fans. Those of us who can remember back into the 70s, strange times like the appt of Sammy Chung, the Bhatti Brothers, season after season of relegations.......and then the Turner years with Bully.

Of course the appt of a new manager will invigorate fans. No chance it will get rid of some of the moaners?

poxey moxey rips us off again

don't u people see this early bird "offer" is just a way of disguising they have put prices up for a season of lower league football which I think is a disgrace they should be slashing prices to get a full ground and an happy atmosphere down the ground. Do one moxey or bring in this football director ASAP

Kenny Hibbitts Left Foot

By the way why are they only showing the back of the new home shirt on the web site and in the club shop? i'm not sure about the gold collar surely it should be black, it doesn't even look the same colour gold coz its different material!!!!!

Albrightondek

I'm not sure that the appointment of Solbakken influenced many of the 1871 additional supporters or not.

In a sense it really does'nt matter. The decision to extend the scheme was a sensible one. Although I renewed my ticket in March, I can well understand the feeling of many STH in the final few weeks of last season. Some of those probably regretted their decision not to renew.

If Wolves, under their new manager make a reasonable start, then I can see that season ticket sales will probably end up not far from last seasons figure.

BlueWolf

"That in no way detracts from our gratitude to those supporters who had taken advantage of the Early Bird offer during the initial window without knowing which division we were going to finish up in"

thanks to your gratitude jez, i can sleep better at night now.

original early bird supporters should get some compensation, be it a free ticket to the first one or two cup games or other gesture.

the people who got the early bird first time had to endure the horrid season last year, the newcomers, while welcome, have just had to pay £20 to join the my wolves scheme

PeteNuts

As the new season approaches, I'd actually like to propose something radical.

All those people who tend towards a positive overview of Wolves' endeavours due to their sense of duty towards the club: please stop calling the more critical posters "numpties" because Mick said it once and it got a bit of press.

All those people who favour a more pragmatic, some may say more negative viewpoint due to the rather clumsy mismanagement of the entirety of the club operation last season: please stop calling the more glass-half-full posters "happy clappers" just because they prefer to accentuate the positive.

I'm not suggesting we do this because, "hey man, can't we all get on?" I'm more suggesting it because both of the phrases are a bit rubbish, and they make us look like idiots playing a game of insult tennis to the casual onlooker.

Lots of love, Pete, the Mother Teresa of the Express And Star comment boards.

fishywolf

No offence to the people who 1871 fellow wolves nuts who have took advantage of the early bird but i think it is a disgrace that existing season season ticket holders who have been season ticket holders for several years get no more advantage than someone who may never have stepped foot in Molineux in the lives, further more I had mine over 5 months paying Direct Debit, ensuring full payment is made before season starts and paying an extra £40 for the privelidge say what you want about the stripy lot but they know how to run a club properly and know how to treat their fans with respect

down down, deeper and down!

Smacks of desperation to me

@Phil

Matthew 20:1-16

1 For the kingdom of heaven of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. 2 And after agreeing with the workers for the standard wage, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 When it was about nine o’clock in the morning, he went out again and saw others standing around in the market place without work. 4 And he said to them, “You go into the vineyard too and I will give you whatever is right.” 5 So they went. When he went out again about noon and three o’clock that afternoon, he did the same thing. 6 And about five o’clock that afternoon he went out and found others standing around, and he said to them, “Why are you standing here all day without work?” 7 They said to him, “Because no one has hired us.” He said to them, “You go and work in the vineyard too.”

8 When it was evening, the owner of the vineyard said to his manager, “Call the workers and give the pay starting with the last hired until the first.” 9 When those hired about five o’clock came, each received a full day’s pay. 10 And when those hired first came, they though they would receive more. But each one also received the standard wage. 11 When they received it, they began to complain against the landowner, 12 saying, “These last fellows worked one hour, and you have made them equal to us who bore the hardship and burning heat of the day.

13 And the landowner replied to one of them, “Friend, I am not treating you unfairly. Didn’t you agree with me to work for the standard wage? 14 Take what is yours and go. I want to give this last man the same as I gave to you. 15 Am I not permitted to do what I want with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous? 16 So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”

Petenuts I have never called anyone a numptie and it doesn't bother me if someone calls me a happy clapper but it does bother me when people throw insults about just because we have a differnt view(we all know who they are). I did the early bird in March and I tend to agree I think we should have some compensation like a free cup ticket or two but I do understand why they did it.

shirleyyoucantbeserious

Jez please stay for ever so that vindaloopi never comes to watch Wolves again.

I am amazed at the in depth knowledge of some contributors of how Jez constantly interferes with the football side.

I just wish we'd show some commitment as a club, like Portsmouth did, and invest in the future.

I do agree with 10, 12 and others. Real early birders deserve something.

1,871 x approx £500 = £935,000 = 100-200 luxury houses.

It will be very interesting to see how much NET INVESTMENT is allocateed to players after incoming transfer revenue is taken into account (Fletcher £10m+, Jarvis £8m+, Hennessy?, Ward £3 (no I havn't missed out any noughts). Suspect that all the old faithful excuses will be trotted by Jez - we tried but wage demands were too high, have to reduce costs due to reduced TV income, prudent housekeeping (ie. unsaid looking after other commercial intersts) etc. etc.

Investment in our FOOTBALL CLUB not platitudes please Mr. Morgan. You have a long way to go before you earn our trust, the elastic tenner must now be stretching to breaking point.

early bird sick on his worm

I took out an early bird on the original date, however I know people who did it last week who got a discount and shirt voucher, I have actually seen this. It's a disgrace. Wolves are a disgrace for this don't deserve any loyalty

Noisy

53- it's you that has it wrong.

I did not renew my 25 year (with one season missed to protest against Hoddle) season ticket. I expect to attend all the home games and as many away games as possible next season, but it is the only genuine method of putting any pressure on the board to spend in the summer. Despite having the 'happy clapper' (sorry Pete) label on here, I think we are at a crucial stage and the board seem determined to spend the minimum they can get away (a very false economy last season). However that will not stop me supporting players who give 100% every week.

This decision was made much easier in the knowledge that the chances of any home game selling out next season are 0% - even if we win the title!

darlowolf

so what do us fans get for buying the early bird in march?

bezzer wolves

I renewed my ticket at the last moment after a change of heart. Why do you ask,i think we could have a manager who has a european style of attacking play, who hopefully brings in new younger, hungrier.fitter, players and background staff.Straight away he needs to sort out the defence, inspire and organise the midfield.Good luck Stale FOREVER WOLVES.

Get a life.

I love how many people on this website have an in depth knowledge on how a football club works and how Moxey is rubbing his hands together with all this new money coming his way.

"Well thats a new boat coming my way! these wolvo lot will never know my true evil plan!"

Everything he does is backed by various people who have a big say in the club, HE IS ONE OF MANY.

Aswell i cant see how this is a bad thing!?

1. 2000 more faces in the ground

2. Better atmosphere for the players

3. More revenue for building the club

No one knew what was going to happen and as an earlier post said, Moxey would be very bad at his job if he missed the opportunity. Our club is in reasonable shape except for the footballing side, which can be easily improved, so stop moaning about moxey and just sing for the lads. thats what were here to do. Done.

Sir Billy Quite

51 Sue - what about a free pie and pint for those of us that renewed early??

I think its great that we are going to be guaranteed a 15,000 home gate and bet we average 20,000 plus.

It would'nt bother me if they sold tickets cheap on the morning of a game - fill the ground - it makes for a much better atmosphere (so long as Vindaloopi is kept well away...)
