Forgotten defender Steven Mouyokolo has returned to Wolves – and could still have a future at Molineux, according to boss Terry Connor.

The £2.5m defender is currently being assessed as he recovers from a ruptured cruciate ligament to his left knee at French club FC Sochaux, where he is on a year-long loan.

Former Hull defender Mouyokolo suffered a similar injury to keeper Wayne Hennessey and isn't expected to be fully fit until after the Championship season starts on August 18.

Mouyokolo made just four Premier League appearances after arriving as one of Mick McCarthy's main summer arrivals in 2010.

Just a year after signing him, the former boss was happy to allow the 6ft 3ins centre-back to go out on loan for a season once he had captured £4.5m Roger Johnson.

Ironically, Mouyokolo has also played just four games back in France after being out injured from September for four months before his latest injury struck against Auxerre on February 18.

But Connor believes Mouyokolo may yet prove an asset to the club.

"He's one of our players so we want him fit as soon as possible and back out playing," said the boss.

"He's on a year-long loan. We're still his parent club so he's come back.

"He's done his cruciate and he's back for some assessments and treatment here. They're hoping he'll be fit just after the start of the season."

Connor said Mouyokolo will spend his rehabilitation flitting between Wolves and Sochaux while building his fitness up after being initially treated in France.

"He'll continue to have treatment at both clubs until he's fully fit," he added. "He'll do some tests to see exactly what he can and can't do and I think he'll go backwards and forwards between the clubs and rebuild his fitness.

"He's had his treatment at Sochaux – all his early rehab has been done out there and now he's come back to us.

"We want to see for ourseleves exactly where he is with his rehab."

Meanwhile, Connor insists he hasn't had any calls from Sunderland about Steven Fletcher, who has been linked with an £8m move to the Black Cats.

When asked, Connor said: "None at all."
