Terry Connor today revealed how the Wolves 'family' have helped him through a difficult few days after the club was relegated.

Long-serving Connor was almost in tears as he was interviewed on TV after Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City which confirmed relegation.

But the 49-year-old has been inundated with messages of support since and so engaged on a whistle stop tour of the Molineux departments to thank staff, while he has also had a pick-me-up call from former chief Mick McCarthy.

"All the staff and players have given everything they possibly can," said the boss.

"It was really tough to not see it through this season and get safe.

"It's been hard for the last couple of days.

"We've been up and down before and I know what it means to me, players who have been here for a while and to the staff who work for the club.

"They all feel it too.

"So I popped down to Molineux on Monday because there were lots of messages and support.

"Rather than replying to them all, I nipped down to the ground to say 'thanks very much'.

"I went around all the departments because a lot of staff have told me to keep my chin up in a lot of nice messages.

"Someone emailed me from accounts for example, so I popped in to accounts and I know how much people in the media department have supported me so I said thanks to them.

"So I ended up wandering about, talking to people. Everyone felt the disappointment."

Connor had this uplifting message from McCarthy: "I've had a call from Mick.

"He said 'there's three more games, so just be honest and keep going'."

The Yorkshireman has also had calls from friends in the game, as well as plenty of support from his family.

"I've had a couple of calls from people who keep in touch and got messages from them," he added.

"Just good people who know what I'm about, how I go about things.

"They'd have known it was a really tough day on Sunday.

"I've had an awful lot of support from my friends and family. They've all been looking after me."

Connor also thanked the fans for their support, adding: "For the majority of the season, the supporters, have been really behind us and given us their backing.

"That was certainly the case on Sunday."
