Wolves' chances of keeping Steven Fletcher are doomed as he will be prey to the Premier League's top-10 this summer if the club is relegated.

That's the view of former Molineux manager Mick McCarthy. The £7m club record signing is expected to attract plenty of interest if, as expected, Wolves go down.

Fletcher, who was signed by McCarthy from relegated Burnley in June 2010, has been Wolves' top scorer for two seasons, having scored 10 League goals in both campaigns.

And although he has gone eight games without a goal, that won't stop a scramble over his signature in the summer.

"Sadly, it looks like Wolves are going down and Steven Fletcher will be courted by teams in the top half of the table because he's a top player" said McCarthy.

Another Wolves player who was tipped for a move, keeper Wayne Hennessey, has been backed to make a quicker-than-expected recovery after being ruled out for around six months with a ruptured cruciate ligament.

Wales boss Chris Coleman believes the 25-year-old could return for the start of the World Cup qualifiers. Wales host Belgium on September 7.

"I wouldn't rule him out," said Coleman. "Speaking with the medical people, we're pretty hopeful we'll have him back for the start of the qualifiers.

"But he's got to make sure he's 100 per cent."

Coleman has been highly impressed by Hennessey and tipped him for Wolves' Player of the Year vote.

"He's done as much at Wolves as any player to try to keep them up," he said.

"I've been very impressed with Wayne."

Meanwhile, Kevin Doyle has admitted he wants Wolves to go down fighting, if as expected, they drop out of the Premier League.

"We want to go out dignified and keep going to the end," he said. "We're trying to play the last few games with our heads held high."
