Boss Terry Connor today predicted Wolves winger Matt Jarvis will return to full tilt against Manchester City on Sunday.

The club's Player of the Year was rested for Saturday's 0-0 draw at Sunderland after his exhaustive efforts against Stoke and Arsenal in the previous five days, before coming off the bench for the final half hour at the Stadium of Light.

But Connor said the speedy wideman, who is in the running to retain his crown, will be firing on all cylinders for the City game.

"Of course he will be," said the boss. "Sunderland was the third game in eight days for all of them, and I couldn't pick them all. But he will be fine."

Jarvis was rested to protect against the risk of injury because of his high-tempo game.

"Matty plays the game only one way – and he does it very quickly," said Connor.

"So for 60 minutes at Sunderland, Anthony Forde came in and did a great job.

"Michael Kightly was playing his third game on the spin and the young kid Fordey gave Matt the chance to stay on the bench and not run the risk of an injury."

Connor challenged his back five to build on their Sunderland shut-out, after clinching their first clean sheet in 31 games at the Stadium of Light.

Connor wants Wayne Hennessey's replacement Dorus De Vries and the back four to build on it. "It'd be great if we could build on that because getting that clean sheet was down to the whole team," he said.

"The two front lads were a real handful and dropped in and chased back."
