Wolves today confirmed Terry Connor as manager to the end of the season.

The appointment of the 49-year-old ends the intense speculation surrounding the manager's job since the sacking of Mick McCarthy 11 days ago.

Connor was appointed interim boss after McCarthy's sacking and was told he was preparing the players for tomorrow's game at Newcastle.

Long-serving Connor has been at Molineux for 13 years and has worked the last four-and-a-half of them as assistant to McCarthy, having previously served under Colin Lee, Dave Jones and Glenn Hoddle.

Chairman Steve Morgan said today: "Since we made the difficult decision to part company with Mick, we have been through a diligent process of assessing potential candidates.

"Having spoken to a number of people, we have drawn that process to a close and myself and the board are unaminous that Terry Connor is the right man to lead the club for the remainder of the season.

"This is a decisive step which creates certainty and the players are fully behind us.

"As a club, whether that be staff or supporters, we now need to unite behind Terry and the players and secure as many points as possible over the next 13 games."

Connor has worked his way through the ranks at Molineux having been coach of Wolves' youth and reserve teams before being appointed first team coach to replace Ian Evans then assistant manager in summer 2008.

Wolves turned to Connor after Alan Curbishley twice and Walter Smith turned the job down, while Steve Bruce and Neil Warnock were also among the candidates interviewed.

A press conference was called today at Molineux with chairman Mr Morgan and chief executive Jez Moxey to announce the appointment.

Morgan and Moxey explained the decision to staff at the club's Compton Park training ground today.
