Time to map out a plan for Villa's future
- Says blogger Matthew Turvey
Back to the drawing board as Smith says ‘No’ to Wolves
Thursday 23rd February 2012, 12:15PM GMT.
Wolves were this afternoon considering their options after Walter Smith rejected the chance to manage the club on a short-term basis.
The 63-year-old had been excited about the prospect of reviving Wolves’ fortunes while the club worked behind the scenes to find a long-term successor to Mick McCarthy in the summer.
Chief executive Jez Moxey knows Smith from their days at Rangers together in the early 1990s and the Wolves supremo turned to Ibrox’s second most successful manager after being met with a string of disappointments since sacking McCarthy 10 days ago.
And, as a dramatic day of twists unfolded, the longer Smith thought about the offer, reservations about turning around the club’s fortunes began to kick in, knowing he would only have been there until the end of the campaign.
Smith, who never met club officials face-to-face, had been in talks with the club over the last few days, and initially ‘no’ to managing the club on a longer-term basis.
Then he received a call last night asking if he would manage the club until the end of the season and was tempted – only to decide against it knowing he risked possibly closing his glittering career with a relegation on his CV.
“It’s true I’m not going,” Smith told the Express & Star this afternoon.
“I was totally unsure whether I really wanted to do it or not.
“It was a purely personal thing, nothing to do with Wolves.
“I know Jez and I knew I was more of a fall-back than anything. We didn’t even get as far as discussing money.
“There was never a face-to-face meeting and we never discussed finance.
“If someone asks you, you’re pleased to be asked, but the longer you think about it, you start to ask yourself whether it was right.”
It’s understood Wolves turned to Smith after meeting with disappointment elsewhere.
Alan Curbishley turned down the job twice, then they approached Reading and Brighton asking for permission to speak with respective managers Brian McDermott and Gus Poyet.
But they were denied the chance to speak with either of them after McDermott signed a new three-and-a-half year contract while Poyet claimed there was “no decision to make”.
Now Wolves have to pick up the pieces and decide where to turn to next, with Steve Bruce and Dave Jones in the frame and current interim boss Terry Connor ready to take it on a short-term basis.

Turned down the chance to talk about becoming manager and not actually offered job.
Anyone seen Mick?
we’re doomed
Report abuse
This is a complete joke. I love how Jez isn’t speaking out to the fans as to what is going on. He is being offered the chance by various TV and Radio stations but is refusing. That is simply because he is embarrassed and doesn’t have an answer. Total shambles once again!
Morgan has turned into us a joke club…. what’s he offering these guys ?? I reckon he has taken a leaf from Tesco (the shop not them down the road) and is offering jsa + expenses.
It can only be Steve Bruce now – a manager no one wants here, including the owner.
Just embarrassing !
LMAO no one wants the job!
I concede – just give it to Bruce…
Report abuse
This is going bad to worse.. Cannot even get manager so a lot for our surival hopes.
This joke of a situation just gets worse and worse. Please…..MORGAN & MOXEY STOP DRAGGING OUR CLUB THROUGH THE DIRT AND SORT THIS MESS OUT!!!
Go and get Curbishley and give him soem kind of backing, rather than teh limp wristed offer we must have made to put him off in the first place.
We are becoming an embarassment!!!
Please bring mick back, get rid of clipboard and give wilkins what he wants to be number 2!!
McCarthy = motivator
Wilkins = top coach
Quite simple really.
Beyond farce. What are Morgan and Moxey offering these people that not one of them wants the job? Except Steve Bruce…Oh dear!
what a mess we are in still no manager when is the new man going to take over i think its the short term thats killing them off also the penny pinching so think on good luck we all still love the wolves
Report abuse
Nobody wants the job , when will the board understand a manager wants commitment THIS HAS GONE PAST A JOKE , DISGUSTED WITH IT ALL !
Just heard Andy Gray shocked reaction to hearing the news of Walter’s refusal. He is as mystified as all of the fans as to what the hell is going on! He said himself that Wolves are a big club with a proud history and we are a one city club with a huge following. He asked himself what is going on. Not even the experts know! How embarrassing! He confirmed his radio station had been in contact with Jez but Jez has refused to come on and speak. Us fans deserve far better!
They should just bite the bullet and offer it to Bruce, he is better than Connor which we will end up with at this rate.
what a joke this is becoming morgan and moxey out!
Only one candidate for the job now. A man with experience in fighting relegation successfully and taking teams up from the Championship
Mick McCarthy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, what a surprise.
The Wolves are now the biggest laughing stock ever and I have had a season ticket for 28 years, I do not see me having a 29th season ticket.
A very public debacle.
Bring in Dave Jones with Butch Wilkins as his number 2.
Last one out turn the lights off
Report abuse
Me and my mate Les are both retired so we won’t turn you down Moxey
Report abuse
Will the last one out please turn the lights off.
Lol o dear :)
This is a really well run club
Report abuse
LMFAO what a joke we are!
Well that is yet another blow. E and S should have played this down until all known.
It’s looking less and less embarrassing to ask Mick back every day!
{shakes head}
Apparently, according to the Rotherham Chronicle, the Chuckle Brothers have said they would be interested in the job, “as it appears that anybody and everybody is being considered, we thought we would put ourselves forward”
A Wolves spokesperson said “The Chuckle Brothers will be given every consideration for the position of manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club, as they are of a similar calibre to many of those we are currently interviewing. Without wishing to jump the gun, I think it is fair to say that such an appointment would help the club to continue to move in the right direction. However, there do seem to be some contractual problems, but the club will endeavour to overcome these over the next few days.”
HA ha ha ha another rejection, this is now REALLY funny.Better get on the blower to Mick and grovel like never before.
Wolves are a joke.
It looks like its becoming a ‘poisoned chalice’ that no one wants, anyone still got Mick’s number??
Reminds me of the old joke when we were in the Fourth division;
I rang to ask what time kick off was and they said “what time can you get here?”
Now its; I rang to ask if they’d appointed a manager and they said “when can you start?”
General Melchett-Morgan and Captain Darling-Moxey must have a cunning plan, they can’t get anyone so they’re going to give the job Terry (Baldrick) Connor.
This is just one big farce.. Appoint someone and give them an 18 month contract.. Put a clause in it that if we are relegated the contract can be canceled at the cost of say 2 months wages.. So all people are happy, depending on what division we are in. If I was Moxey I would get on my knees and sort the problem out with Alan Curbishley.. The fault is with Wolves approach, it is clear to see, not the managers in question.
We are a complete and utter embarrasment and Moxey & Morgan you have made the club I love the laughing stock of football!!!!
Just seen it advertised in the job centre down Ocker hill.
Well what a surprise!!! Nobody wants to work for a club that can’t organise a raffle let alone a replacement for a manager that shouldn’t have been sacked in the first place. I posted on here earlier this season saying that some of us should be careful what we wish for… Need I say more? What a calamity. I hope against all rational expectation that we sort this out soon and somehow stay up…seems increasingly unlikely though:-( UTW
Report abuse
How low can we get, Walter Smith turning us down, it’s now turned into making me laugh.
Ray Wilkins please.
Is Moxey using a tombola for who he should approach to be our manager?
Was it not bad enough to be outclassed by Tesco’s bags last week? This is the lowest of the low and I am ashamed to be a Wolves fan. Albion fans and now all football fans are in fits of laughter, and texting me every day as more pathetic news comes out.
We are a disgrace, a shambles. Words fails me.
What a mess. I’ve tried to ignore the fact that the days were ticking by and had half convinced myself that with Smith almost being appointed earlier, at least it might bring some stability back in time for the weekend.
Alas, we now look like a complete laughing stock as something must be wrong with what is on offer if 63 year olds and people out of work are turning us down. Hopefully Bruce will walk away now knowing he is something like 47th choice.
Bring back Mick.
#youdontknowwhatyourdoin
Report abuse
Marvelous. So that’s now Curbishley, Bruce, McDermott, Poyet and Smith. Don’t suppose there’s any point in actually paying some money and buying Holloway or Hughton out of their contracts. Mate, you weren’t our 6th choice, honest.
What a shower.
Good luck TC, you’re the only one left.
What on earth are Wolves proposing to these jobless people?
Whatever this ‘vision’ is, it makes people run a mile.
Time for Wolves to release a statement about their plans for the club, they are telling managers in private, but not the fans!
I would like to know before i renew my season ticket please!
Well!!! What can I say? Im gutted that my beloved club has come to this. Moxey and Morgan must really take a long hard look at their ‘vision’ for the club as we are now a laughing stock. A ‘Premier League’ club with a poison chalice of a managers job. Why?
I really thought that Walter Smith would come, he has the experience and tactical knowledge to at least given us a fighting chance of survival. His refusal to take the job has so stigmatized the managers position that I can see no person who will now touch us. Maybe its time for Moxey to feel the axemans blade. Its a pity that Morgan cant feel it also!
Im absolutely gutted.
Steve Bull’s article above sounds like a message straight from the boardroom. It sounds like the board are using him to win the fans over for the inevitable appointment of Bruce. He states that Bruce is a calming influence. Have you ever seen Bruce after a match! All he does is wine. That in my mind is not a calming individual!
Looks like Connor will be taking us down to the Championship this season then!! A right joke cannot believe they did not have anyone lined up before sacking Mick.
Wolves…..Still the joke of the Premiership.
Surely, with whats available, that procession of tired old men living on their memories, why the hell could we not attract one of them after the 10 day gap since sacking McCarthy.
May be its the top management that is at fault, the Owner, CEO and other board members, that are unable to put an attractive deal together, my be, the wrong man was sacked after all.
For god’s sake do something now, don’t let TC lead the Wolves players out at St James on Saturday, get Dave Jones on the phone, the only one left with the experience, talent and motivation to save Wolves…after all, he still has something to prove to Wolves management
Report abuse
Oh and as an aside…What faith will our players put into a manager that nobody could agree on and was the 14th choice for the job? An absolute joke.
Another day, another rejection.
How many more are going to be lined up only to reject us?
There must be something seriously wrong with the terms and conditions that are being offered.
Oh dear, it would be funny if it was not true… what am i on about its as funny as it gets.
“Be careful what you wish for “

I’m sure us Villa fans won’t mind if you take McLeish – in fact we are begging you!!

New theory on wolves manager. Jez opened his little black book. Started at A for Alan and failed. Went to B for Brian, G for Gus and S for Steve. Now W for Walter is no good. Any tips for X, Y or Z????
The problem you may now have is it’s public knowledge whoever gets the job will not be the first, second or third choice of your CEO and owner. Surely this puts whoever is chosen at a disadvantage with fans knowing this? The whole debacle could and should have been handled so much better by Moxey who, frankly looking from across the divide, looks like he really hasn’t got a plan or clue. The Newcastle game was his target; this set himself up for a fall and got hopes up far more than was necessary. Buffoon.
What a total joke, does no one want the job?
Looks like Churchill the nodding Dog will get the nod, cause it seems that all Jez and Morgan want is a YES man!!
No one wants it… I’LL DO IT!
Bring back Mick.
Whatever constraints he was working under, he clearly was, and it seems no-one else will consider them..
Swalow some prode. The players love him.
Fresh start.
get him back in
Report abuse
You could do a lot worse than giving Sir Gary Megson lord of the manor house west bromwich a ring …
Report abuse
Oh No!!
Walter Smith is a great tactician and a great defensive coach, just what we craved. He`s a very similar manager to Hodgson in that he thinks things through and can change things when they`re failing.
We must make him cahnge his mind. Give him what he wants, I`m sure he`s not being greedy and will only be here for 3 months anyway. (unless when he`s kept us up he gets the bug again).
Really don’t know why they can’t make an offer which will stick. Do they want someone on the cheap?
All seems knee jerk reaction at present, to avoid egg on faces.
Reactions typically negative by the usual “fans” though, they will never be happy. They seem to think that Curbishley would guarantee survival. NOT!!!
I believe Mick McCarthy is looking for a job.
He did far better at Wolves, than many big names did beforehand.
OH dear what next, I say bite the bulett and give Curbishley what he wants. he is the man everyone wants to see at Wolves. Anything!! but T/C in charge he has been most of the trouble at Wolves for years
Report abuse
Just give it up now guys. Even if some/all of these stories aren’t true, you really are making us look like a bunch of muppets (no offence intended to any muppets reading this).
TC until the end of the season it is.
Forget Bruce – it’s far too late to offer him the job now for one things the fans just don’t want a Mick-lite for another I can’t believe he could possibly accept it now anyway.
Walter’s refusal should not open the door to Bruce. He should not have even had an interview after his awful management of Sunderland! The only way i will accept Bruce is if he came with Wilkins! If we get Bruce then we are well and truly doomed!
I give up wolves we are now a national joke moxey and morgan have no plan a plan b ot even plan c. Why do people they ask keep turning us down. This team and club now need a miracle to stay up so for that reason I suggest either team of dave jones and paul ince. Or paul ince with ray wilkins or lee clark and ray wilkins plan for now and for future wolves or our dark days will return . . Out of light cometh darkness with moxey in charge. Rant over . Keep the gold flag flying high forever wolves
Report abuse
Mr Morgan
Your first proper act as a Chairman. Not looking impressive is it?
So you sacked our manager and never thought of who was going to steer the ship first?
Incompetence doesn’t come close to this shambles.
I would like to throw my hat into the ring as a season ticket holder and frequent traveller to away games. I’m honest, hardworking and wouldn’t play 4-2-4 in a relegation scrap having watched us struggle with 4-4-2 all season….having said that I would like a career rather than a dead end job so guess what….I’d turn you down and join the ever growing list.
You wouldn’t make an investment without knowing a manager is looking after your interests so why do it with our club?
My thoughts would now turn to Paul Ince – get the team fired up, the crowd fired up and go down with a good scrap. Perfect for him and sounds better than what I fear….
Sort it – I’m having to fork out for a season ticket and this is your sales plan? Ha

I think this a ‘Blessing in disguise’, let them get on with it, the right man will get the job no point just stabbing in the dark and hope we get someone for the sake of it, these things sometimes take time. I disagree we are been made a laughing stock. We will be OK – stay calm and support the club don’t mock your own family! Just as well the players get time reflect at themselves and grow up to take responsibility for their own roles.
Morgan should realise that this is a OUR football club and not a brick building project. Promise to invest in the squad and you will get a decent manager, trying to do things on the cheap the Moxey and Morgan way gets you ridiculed and rightly so.
sorry its sb better then clipboard some one in please what a joke we are

Remember at school when you used to pick the play ground football teams by everyone lining up and then you would choose who you want on your team based on ability ?
There was always the useless fat lad left at the end with his hand in the air shouting “pick me, pick me”….. well step forward Steve Bruce !!!
If Morgan has ofered the position to Curbishley TWICE, and to Smith TWICE, how bad has Bruce got to be if he still wants it ?
Honestley, even I wouldn’t wanna manage wolves under these fools.
We would be mad to give it to Bruce.
We have made it clear he is not wanted and would be a last choice not very good for moral for players, fans and Bruce.
Think the only man for the job is Wilkins.

It’s clear that Moxey and Morgan are offering peanut terms and that is why nobody is interested in our once great club. Disgusting. The fans deserve much much better. We look like clowns with these two at the helm currently. Just like our player transfer dealings, we’ll end up with our last choice AGAIN. And if that means we end up with Bruce, how can Wolves fans be expected to believe that the board will be truely behind him. DISGRACEFUL stuff. I feel so angry!!
YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR DOIN, YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR DOIN!!!!!!

Bad to worse. We are a joke.
Surely its time to discuss more with Curbs, Ince and Rae, Roy Keane or Lee Clark. We need someone fast. That home game v Blackburn is getting more spicy every day. Thank god for Moxey and Morgan that it is not this weekend. If they though that McCarthy had it bad they ain’t seen nothing yet.
Even Reading and Brighton fans are taking the pee on Twitter, embarassing

Is there anyone these two clowns haven’t talked to about the job?? Dave Jones now apparently. Have they tried Hoddle? Moxey begged him to stay I seem to recall after he abandoned ship.
Our once famous, proud club is being offered around like a cheap piece of meat.
Probable relegation and being thrashed by The Baggies is losing it’s sting now compared to the national humiliation these incompetent jokers are putting us through.
SHAMEFUL.
Keep going, keep drawing straws out of a hat Jez,sooner or later you will draw out ” Ray Wilkins” ,best man for the job,he maybe just say yes,but only if he is allowed to have sole management of team affairs, and given a few quid in the Summer for drastically needed up grade on playing staff.
I thought the CEO was bad but in reality it’s the fans which are dragging the club through the dirt. Get some dignity instead of moaning and making knee-jerk reactions to every news story. At least we’re in a decent position to get ourselves out of the relegation zone and are financially sound. Unlike Rangers and Portsmouth. Things aren’t that bad. It takes a split second to make a decision. Obviously the board want to make the correct decision and this’ll take a lot longer. I’d rather wait another couple of weeks and get the right man than just rush it because some mindless idiots have wet themselves and want attention.
Wolves obviously have unrealistic expectations, it can’t be that all the managers approached who then turn it down all have unrealistic ideas of what they’d expect from a premier league club.
Something stinks here, and the only common fcator in all the negotiations are Moxey and Morgan.
Nevermind a new manager, how about we discover who is the culprit between Morgan and Moxey and encourage their replacement too.
Steve Bruce now 1/3 for job.
Apparently he’s agreed to Moxey and Morgan’s terms , so he’ll pay Wolves £50,000 a week and to sell Fletcher , Hennessey and Jarvis when we’re relegated.
Everyday I wake up with an optimistic view that the mighty Wolves will be back on track and once again be an outstanding, traditional club!
Everyday is not only a let down, but somehow becoming even more heart breaking and embarrassing with every E&S article. I do not have the knowlege or expertice to comment on how a football club should be run but I think any everyday football fan can see something is not quite right at the Molineux.
After this mess, Moxey and Morgan owe us fans something inspiring and ambitious…Wilkins with Poyet or Clark.
Surely the way forward is for TC to be given the job until the end of the season. The players and coaches got the Club into this position; let them get the Club out of it.
The mangaerial cupboard is bare. No one wants to take on a job for 13 games and risk getting relegated which will only make their own CV worse.
In other words bite the bullet and start again next season either in the Premiership or Championship.
After all this, it looks like TC will be installed for the rest of the season (we can’t go on with this embarrassing saga) and then, based on which league we find ourselves in, SM/JM will try again. This is just speculation on my part – what we deserve now is a statement from JM.
“Watch out what you wish for…” They are obviously trying to do with these candidates what they got away with under Mick. No commitment to pay the right kind of wages to the right kind of players, …. and don’t tell anyone.
No wonder we cannot find anyone decent to accept those kind of limits. We now see that the mess was nowhere near being all of Mick’s fault. He had all of the backing of a one-legged man in a backside kicking contest.
The lack of information coming from the club is not at all clever.
It is leading to a lot of rumour-mongering coming from the press.
The club are encouraging the fans to believe what they read because of the deafening silence for the Mol.
From the outside looking in it really looks a complete shambles. Mick must be laughing in his boots, along with all the baggies supporters.
What on earth are Messrs Morgan and Moxey playing at.As it is neither look very capable right now.

as a villa fan i sympathise. villa did the same thing “interviewing” managers instead of just getting the right one in. while villa were embarrassing themselves trying to talk to martinez and mcclaren, decent managers like Jol were being snapped up. wolves should have learnt from WBA last year. Just go and get your man and dont waste time interviewing.managers records are their for all to see. why interview.

Wolves? Overpromise and under-deliver!
You can bet it all comes down to money: the ‘offer’, the transfer fees and players wages – but who knows?
I have in the past been a big supporter of the 3 m’s and thought the way they handled mick’s sacking was poor
However I think the chief exec needs to consider his position. Much is made of wolves being run in sound business lines ,if so as in any business he has messed up royally and should do the honourable thing and resign. Morgan is the owner and as such he can do as he chooses whether or not the fans agree (sad but a reality).
I have been a wolves fan for over 45 years and we have been through some tough times but this situation has a bad feeling about it. I think our chances of survival are looking worse by the day and Moxey has to shoulder the responsibility .
Hardly a surprise that most managers have rejected the job is it ? With not many games left its going to be very difficult for any manager to mark their stamp on the team .These managers are worried about their reputations as theirs a chance of relegation and you cannot blame them for that.Looking at your crop of players their really isnt alot of quality their hence the reason why the last couple of seasons you have been struggling . Their has been no real improvement in the squad since you first got promotion with mick at the helm ……. Boing Boing … And good luck as you gonna need tonnes of it !!
I see Bully has given us the benefit of his wisdom.
He says he just can’t understand why these people are turning down the chance to manage wolves. Well, Steve, they were all interested until they spoke to Steve Morgan, so what do you think may be wrong ?
He also says they should take it “cos they are out of work” and “cos it’s a job” like they are applying to work in Greggs… and this is the guy many of you want to manage our once great club ?
To be fair – he may end up as a contender cos no one who can actually do the job seems to want it – and like Bully, I wonder why !!
One common denominator here the Board and senior management.
Everyone is baffled why there is interest from a prospective manager right up to the point they talk to the two M’s…
We shouldn’t be suprised that Mick ultimately failed with the dross we have for management of the club. Run like a business, just a numbers game if you don’t understand something ie passion, dedication and spirit how can you manage it?
What we have is accounants and big business running the football side and two don’t mix.
Shared vision, thats a joke the one thing lacking is vision other than bricks and mortar I cant see any and obviously neither can the range of Championship and unemployed managers turning us down. Talk about humiliation this is a truely a dark time in our history.
Surely this utter farce has shown us one thing and that is we needed a new CEO more than we needed a new manager!
Really really concerned for our future witnessing this debacle.

Whilst this is hugely embarassing for a proud club like Wolves in the short term, i do believe that in the longer term this can only be good for the club. But only if those with power realise the error of their ways and change their way of thinking.
I always suspected that all was not well with the club but this seems to confirm it.

WE ARE OFICIALLY THE LAUGHING STOCK OF THE WORLD!!! We can’t even get a 63 year old to have a go. Obviously managers want long term contracts so Morgan go and get the bloke you want and what the majority fans want!!! Curbs is the one we all want so sort this shambolic mess out NOW!!! The fans are losing patience !!!

We need a manager who is going to be committed to us and visa versa. The worst thing that could happen is that we are in a Glenn Hoddle situation again – a manager not committed to us. Is it such a crazy idea to have McCarthy back? Im not sure who is left now, who would be a viable option – it is all getting rather embarassing – what exactly are Morgan and Moxey offering prospective managers?

Aside from the clipboard jokes he s been there 12 years..he must have something to offer..he might just surprise us..plus if we stay up..fantastic..a new if we go down its nobodys fault and we can look at who s available then..all these managers are clearly saying..”look i cant promise to keep the club in the Prem..youve gotta back me long term..”

Shame there’s hasn’t been a TV crew making a documentary about the travails of a Premiership team recruiting a new manager – now that would have been worth watching!
I see that we now have three options to salvage some pride, if not our Premiership status.
1) Meet Curbishley and establish common ground, on the understanding that both parties make concessions to create a workable solution.
2) Stroke Kevin Keegan’s ego for a 12 match stint
3) Get Lee Clark in now on the understanding that we are starting a new project(!) and if we manage to stay up now, it’s bonus.
God help us all

Wolves sponsor for next season should be a Swiss cheese manufacturer. One who produces Emmentaler, Gruyere, etc.
Swiss cheses are well known for their holes – holes which are created by carbon dioxide being released from the bacteria used as a starter culture.
What we have at the Molineux is a ‘culture’ of decay, creating ever-increasing holes in the credibility of the board.
The fans are ‘cheesed off’ and there’s an almighty stink coming from the boardroom.
Anyone fancy a pickle?

Why do we always make a pigs ear of everything we do at Wolves ? Transfers, Managers sacking, managers appointment – there is one common denominator – Jez Moxey !! Maybe SM should have got rid of him and not Super Mick. Its a joke. The only way they can salvage this is to offer the job to Ray Wilkins. To offer it to Bruce now smacks of desperation !! Total cock up – MM should still be in the hotseat !

According to people who’ve texted me who claim to be “in the know” at the Wolves (and who’ve been right on many occasions), there are three BIG rumours doing the rounds:
1. Terry Connor until the end of the season (mainly because the players like him and he’s much more tactically aware than he’s given credit for!!
2. Alan Curbishley is already a “done deal” and it’ll be revealed on Friday. Moxey hasn’t spoken to the press because he doesn’t need to and their “disagreement” was down to the young and hungry policy – basically, Curbishley wanted to reserve the right to sign “established” players….and Moxey and Morgan wanted pure youth!
3. Roy Keane for 13 games, with a view to a permanent deal if he keeps us up!!
Like I said, these are the big rumours coming out of Wolves. They can’t all be right, but I bet one of them is!!!

I think it’s a shame that Smith has turned it down. I wonder what the comments on here would have been had he taken it? The usual negativity? I for one remember the South bank chants of “Brian Little’s Gold and Black Army, Graham Turner’s got no army” folowing GT’s appointment. What astute judges of such matters the average football fans are. MM’s appointment wasn’t met with too much celebration either, was it? We have no idea of why people make their decisions in these matters, they could be for any number of factors. Whoever gets the job, short term or long, God help them if results don’t go their way. It will be a very brave man who risks his reputation with such fickle supporters, never mind Moxey et al.

We need a new manager, new coaches and at the end of the season a new chief exec, this clown has to go

Morgan – please leave the club. You bought it on the cheap. You have already shown you are not prepared to invest in quality players. It now appears that you are not prepared to invest in a new manager. Please find another club where you can buy up land for future profit.
Moxey – the fans deserve some clarity on this matter. Your vision for the club seem to be at odds with that of respected football professionals like Curbishley, Smith and McDermott. I do not necessarily think that Steve Bruce is the best choice, but he deserves more respect than you are showing to him.

oh my goodness…
what the board should of done is have somebody in as an advisory role once they sacked mccarthy to assist in appointing a manager.
once mccarthy was sacked, they should of sat down for half a day, perused who was available or potentially available, picked their man, stick to the plan and appoint him swiftly, like Norwich did with Lambert, like WBA did with Hodgson, WHU with big sam etc etc.
the problem is nobody wants the short term contract to rescue wolves with the current crop of players, inevitably take wolves down and lower their managerial stock!
Somebody in the wolves corridors please take down the dart board that the heirarchy are using for the selection process asap!
too red faced to appoint Bruce now… has to be somebody on a two year deal.Wilkins is known to be an exceptional coach but not a man-manager. Now its time for a gamble. When has premier experience ever been needed anyway? look ar Rogers, Lambert and even Moyes, the all stepped up to the plate. Lee Clark must be in with a shout now..

The time has come for Jez Moxey TO STAND DOWN!
Employing a manager is not the hardest thing in the world to do, neither is finding the right man but doing neither denotes a complete lack of ability and aptitude! – Why is this man at Molineux?
How many potential managers has Moxey now spoken to I wonder? 3,4,10,20?
It beggars belief that Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club cannot find a suitable manager from a list as long as your arm! – If the club were plain Town Wanderers FC I could understand it!
Is the club the ‘pits’ of football?
It has become clearly apparent that the hierarchy at the club are the ones who are the problem for why else would so many potential candidates turn the club down and what does Alan Curbishley know that we don’t?
No other club has such a problem with employing managers ONLY WOLVES!
What a pity comedian Frank Carson has died. He would have been the perfect man to have taken over the reins for his persona was befitting of the present nature of the club – a complete joke!!!

It now looks odds on that it will a has been or a might be. I’ve questioned the ambition of the 2Ms for a long time.
Rebuilding a nearly new stand to give a few more empty seats is not the sign off ambition, let alone putting the remainder of the plan on hold less than a year later. It is a sign that building stands in more of a priority than staying in the PL. Odd really, because everyone knows that the attendance will fall significantly in the fizzy pop, not to mention the Sky funding.
It is clear that Steve Morgan is more interested in building houses and getting his name splashed across the E&S that ensuring the club is run well. That’s fine Steve, but please hands the running to someone competent and I don’t mean our man Jez.
This is a disaster, how can two so called “business men” be so impotent. Couldn’t, wouldn’t make a decision at the end of last season. Had the opportunity prior to the transfer window shutting but spurned it, then reacted to the fan’s fall out from the local derby.
What next I wonder. Inspirational stuff.

Oh, and i’ll only sign players under the age of 21. AND i’ll only want 20k a week. that way, if we go down, i can take the brunt of the stick, but as i’m ginger, i’ll be quite used to that. how’s that sound? similar credentials to those left willing to consider the job?…

Well what a farce this is turning out to be. I’m not surprised really. Reading between the lines and why good managers will not come is the old reason we all know…..Morgan + Moxey
= Tight fisted, want it on the cheap, How much?, Not paying that!’ The same old, same old.
It is very difficult to see this club surviving now. Quality managers will not come because they have their track record to think about and want to create a quality team to achieve results and compete with the best of them. Thats the reason why they are turning these pair of nincompupes down. Morgans vision
for Wolves is obviously distorted. Much like Tony Blairs vision of globalisation when he was in Downing street! Look where we are now, Up crap creek without a paddle and wolves are heading the same way.
I repeat, YOU REAP WHAT YOU SEW!

I can quite honestly say ive never known anything like this fiasco.
It seems that the boards “vision” is the problem and for me it must come down to money. A new manager at this level is going to want money spend and my guess is theres little on offer.
I never thought i’d say this but maybe its time to draw a line under the whole saga and just say Clipboard’s in charge until the end of the season. I think they will wait now until after the weekend and see what happens. Knowing the Wolves we will go and get a result on Saturday. The problem is what happens if they get spanked again by 4 or 5? We would be up the proverbial creek without a paddle in that case because NOBODY would want it then.
One things for sure, the game against Blackburn at home is going to be interesting. If this carries on its really not going to be a nice atmosphere which is only going to affect the players.
All in all a complete joke. Morgan and Moxey have some major grovelling to do to the fans after this.

A sad mess and whoever gets the job now knows that they are going to have to work hard to win over the locals. Moxey & Morgan have backed themselves into a corner and now need to find a way out, which is proving more difficult then they imagined because managing WW is not the great opportunity they thought it was.
With regard to 144 above, the Curbishley story has to be ridiculous but the TC rumour would seem to be likely as it’s the cheapest way out of the corner.

cant lure the likes of Curbishley or Smith and yet some people thought we stood a chance of bringing in O’neil. The grass isnt always greener on the other side, especially when theres no grass at all on the other side.
Heard murmerings that one of the key reasons Smith has turned down the role is not because he wouldnt gain the respect from the players in 13 games, but that he wouldnt gain the respect from fans. If its true, it just goes to show that all those idiots that treated Mick and the players like dirt have done this club more harm than good.
Cant blame any manager for not wanting to come here, as no doubt they all know by now that whatever they accomplish at this club, the moment things go the slightest bit bad, the fans will result to foul mouthed abuse and thuggish behaviour.

Losing to Chorely in the FA Cup, and barely existing in the old 4th Division, way back in the middle 1980′s, was considered by many to be the club’s most embarrassing moment in its proud history.
Think again!
I knew Roy Hodgson and the Smell from down the road, ironically, would have a good laugh at our expense, with the “CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR” quote! Funny, because a few of us knew Mick was always a half decent manager but, the only problem, he was workIng for a cheap and incompetent ownership team!

I agree with what Mr.Swain said recently about WBA running their ship a lot better than us despite limited resources and no multi millionaires bankrolling them like Hayward & now Morgan. How the ultra shrewd Dan Ashworth scouts the right style of footballers from around the world and they are constantly reviewing their ‘next manager’ shortlist. I’ve said the same thing for years. And have you noticed how useless McCarthy’s backroom team are at this level? Taff Evans & Bowman’s scouting. When we had Chris Evans we had Keane, Naylor, Andrews, Murray, Lescott, Hennessey & Mark Davies etc all breaking through and playing Premier League football. Since he went after MM was appointed nothing!! I don’t think that is a coincidence. Maybe we should ask Evans back, possibly with Robert Kelly to look at the Youth policy. We also let a certain Psyco Downing go as well and he’s now No.2 to Roy at the Hawthorns!! They tell me Stan & Ollie are dead but i don’t know. I’m sure i’ve seen the fat one playing Chief Exec at Molineux and the thin one thinking he owns the club! ANOTHER FINE MESS!!!

There are no words to express the incompetence of our £1M pound a year CEO. He has earned more in the last fortnight than most of the fans do in a year and yet all he has succeeded in doing is turning the club into a laughing stock.
Obviously we would rather have a good appointment than quick one, but this is frankly ridiculous.
One thing is for sure, Wolves need the fans onside to have any chance of staying up.
I was talking with one of the players about an hour ago after training and he had a typical bullish attitude and commented how the players are up for the Newcastle game.
Two minutes later and the same player commented they have no idea whats happening behind the scenes.
I took from it a big degree that there is an air of uncertainty in the squad. Seems obvious but the last 2 weeks has effected the players and we still seem as far away from resolving it as the first day when we sacked Mick.
Where are people getting the idea that’s it’s about the money from? No ones even got as far to talk about contracts yet! Curbs didn’t like the vision, Walter smith has said he didn’t even get to talk about contracts. There’s two reasons why people don’t want it, one is clearly the direction the clubs going and the second is sadly the attitude of too many of the fans. MM is clearly well respected in the game & seemingly a thoroughly top bloke. Given the treatment he received from a large section of the wolves why would anyone want the job. As ever, be careful what you wish for!
We will probably soldier on under TC (we should back him if that is the case) and then, when the season ends and our fate is decided, there will be no shortage of candidates. If we are still Premier League for another season, there will be fresh opportunities to recruit a decent manager who wants a crack at that league without imminent fear of relegation. If we are Championship again, then the up and coming Lee Clarke- types will fancy a go. Hollaway might, if not promoted again. Just hope, whatever happens, that the hierarchy have learned a lesson from all this. Hope we can achieve something positive on the pitch this Saturday. UTW

For all of you banging on about ‘careful what you wish for’ and how good Mick was, hang on a minute!!Don’t blame us fans that travel miles and spend our hard earned cash on this club for being passionate. It is us numpties/rebel rousers that have seen all these problems coming and an inept leadership at Wolves, out of touch and disengaged that has caused these problems. Fact -Mick is the worst ever EPL Mgr, his record spoke for itself BUT the Board stuck with him when it was clear he could take us no further, it was the same board that squandered £18m on that oh so wonderful news stand that WE did not want. And the same board that sacked Mick without a contingency and at a stupid time. It is Jez & the Leadership of this Club that has to take most responsibility for this situation.
A well run club is:
1) Successful on the field (unlike us)
2) Financially sound (questionable now we have spent £18m on stand and tkt sales will plumet)
3) Engages and includes fans (the message from the board is inept, no comittment & cheapskates!!)
Shame on you and stop blaming the FANS!!

Mr Morgan I think it’s about time you communicate with the fans as this is more and more of a fiasco and no-one has any faith in how the club is being run and this is down to you.
As a lifelong Wolves fan this hurts and I’m not sure you get it.
As Wolves fans we have been promised a bright future before, which ended up as a new stand and fourth division football.
Sir Jack came along and re-built the ground and spent a lot of money on the team at a huge cost to him personally and in my view that restored huge pride back into the club. Sir Jack was Gold and Black through and through and he gifted the club to you to take us forward.
Right now I wish you had got Liverpool and we could have watched this from afar.
So much of what has gone on seems so bindingly obvious it’s hard to believe what’s happening is happening.
There isn’t a Championship team out there filling a 30,000 capacity ground every week. We need to be sure of premiership football to support the ground development. At this rate we will have one stand to remember each past owner.
Wolves stayed up last year, absolute miracle last game results, after during the season having a number of results which were never going to be repeated this year, i.e. wins against the big teams.
It’s clear that money was not made available to spend on players to improve the squad apart from Roger who has had a bad season. If you’re not able to spend money, you must have a system in place for cheap raw talent and development, Mick didn’t do this, so why keep him as long as you did?
It appears to show that neither you nor anyone around has a plan apart from cutting cost. If we go down is there going to be further cutting so that we can afford the developments? Thanks Steve just leave you with a thought from one of your own, Bill Shanky ‘At a football club, there’s a holy trinity – the players, the manager and the supporters. Directors don’t come into it. They are only there to sign the cheques.’

Time to let Morgan and Moxey know how we feel. I have tried to to keep an open mind on Steve Morgan, on what his real intentions were for Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. I am now wondering if they are just part of a building plan for his company Redrow and not building Wolves for the future. I am led to believe he was willing to put 100m in to Liverpool, and yes i can see how it would take more to buy in to them than us. What i can’t understand however, is why when the team needed investment to establish us as a PL team, i:e last summer/ this Jan, there was nothing substantial! And how such a complete and utter mess has been made out of replacing MM, yes it was overdue to get rid of him, but the timing stinks to high heaven. It further seems that we must be offering potential managers very little to work with. I urge everyone of us who have loved and supported the Wolves to write to the board and express our feelings (in a civilized manner please) and of course to stay away from games so it hits them in the pocket (the only thing they understand) I will not travel up from Cornwall again this season to support a CLUB with no ambition that is only interested in doing everything on the cheap, being prudent is one thing, embarisingly skinflint is another!!!

Thank god we didn’t get Walter Smith what he would have done to this club wouldn’t have been any good for us to first;y stay in the prmeiership and secondly achieving that moving this club forward. I think the reason theres lots of managers who are rejecting us is because of the mess were in and how hard it will be to get good results top stay up in the remaining 13 games. Next manager i would seriously look at is Ray Wilkins, he’s the only person who could get us out of a situation like this. I know some may he doesn’t have any managerial experience but he has worked with the best players and best managers in the world such as Mourinho and Ancelotti. Look what happened as soon as he left Chelsea didn’t and aren’t doing as well which makes you think he has something of thats the careful.

The boards lack of ambition and vision has seriously affected us getting an experienced manager. I have no doubts that they have gone for the right candidates like curbs, smith and Bruce but offered the wrong packages.
If i was Smith, Bruce or Curbs i would be worried that there are too few games to turn things around and also that the quality of the squad is not really good enough to say with any confidence that we will stay up. I would be worried that if we got relegated that this would affect my reputation.
Its crazy to here people calling for micks return and at the same time saying that dont wont Bruce.

Morgan has made the fatal error of boxing himself into a corner by the poor timing of his decision to fire MM and the failure to have a backup plan. With 13 games to go and the team in free fall, why would he expect any reputable Manager with a sound track record to take the job on a short term basis only? And, given Morgan’s publicly stated attitudes towards the question of paying high salaries generally, he is getting bitten in the ass!!!
The Club’s well known approach to pay has resulted in a squad that is at best Championship quality and an experienced Premiership Manager is going to have a running battle with the Club’S ownership when attempting to upgrade the playing /coaching staff.
The priority in terms of investment to keep the Club in the top flight should surely be the footballing operations which includes team management and coaching staff. Morgan needs to eat crow, bite the bullet and offer a medium term contract to someone who wants the job and back the candidate up in the summer when changes will have to be made in the playing and coaching staff. There is so much speculation as to who is being approached it is impossible to have a strong feeling about anyone at the moment.

It’s all a tragedy quite beyond belief.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are a proud old club with a rich history. There have however been dark days but I cannot remember anytime during the 80′s or any other period when we have been subject to the humiliation of the past couple of weeks. We all know Moxey for what he is arrogant, only here for the money always treating the fans with contempt. However we are only now getting the true measure of Morgan and it is clear for all to see that Curbishley etc don’t like what they are being told and the degree of commitment from the clubs owner. Look up the road in Stoke there is a proper club owner in Peter Coates he has backed his manager financially and they are an established part of the Premiership. The lesson here is to own a premiership club you need money and the balls to spend it!!! Personally I think Morgan should go away and preferably take Moxey with him. As for Saturday we should get behind Connor and the lads its not their fault and WE ARE WOLVES remember that.

That noise you can hear? That’s the sound of the barrel being scraped, very very hard.
The other noise? Well that’s Mick McCarthy, chuckling into his £1m compensation package. All those times he said he was the best man for the job, despite the dismal performances and results, what he really should have said was “I’m the only mug you’ll get to do it”.
Now Morgan has found the broom cupboard, we can only hope he sweeps a bit harder during the summer. Our CEO must shoulder some of the blame for the meandering shambles that Wolves have become off the pitch this season. It is genuinely difficult to think of anything they have got right.
NB Steve – have someone better lined up first though eh? And then maybe take a little time to consider your own part in this unholy mess.

Graham Taylor & Ray Wilkins??
We need Premiership experience and an old wise head, Prem experience being the most important.
Im glad Smith, Curbs and McDermott have turned it down. They won’t of read a portfoilio on a current Premiership team like Bruce or Wilkins will have and won’t be ready for any team they’d have to play.
Its a massive gamble and a step backwards taking on someone who isn’t up to speed with the ins and outs of the competition.
If above not poss, Steve Bruce is the man, remember when he went to Chelsea last season, played 4.3.3 and murdered them, thats because he’d worked them out, a Championship manager wouldn’t have the info to hand to do that.
Moxey & Morgan are making a right mess of things, bite the bullet and get someone in now.

After seeing the Sky interview with Lee Clark I would give it to him. The guy is passionate, committed and proved he is a winner with a 43 game win streak.
My ideal candidate would be Benitez.
Its looking more and more like Morgan made the decision to fire MM on a whim. No real plan to recruit and no candidates lined up. The press has then assumed that we are only offering a 13 game contract and I believe that is false. I am sure its negotiable and there are all sorts of outs for both the club and the candidate.
Its only been a week, this is selection of a manager for the worlds greatest club. We need to get it right.

Moxey’s constant diet of spin might wash on the happy clapper brigade but as soon as he’s up against experienced football people they can see right through him – hence no one wanting the job.
He kept backing Mick because he didn’t want the hassle of having to work for his million quid.

We are in a mess, who actually wants the job, 2 men have actually confirmed on nation radio and to some journalists that would like the job … Ray Wilkins and Dave Jones … Give it to Dave Jones he wants it, he has worked with Moxey before and more importantly club captain Roger Johnson, Jody Craddock and probably Hennessey when he was in the academy??? 12 games left may as well concede TC will take charge for Saturday, a couple of changes at the back will def happen, i’ve been told, Steve Bruce I feel sorry for, had an interview last week, no contact from the club since, i’ve been told Moxey wants Bruce but Morgan DOES NOT (not a good sign). So in the running we have Steve Bruce, Dave Jones, TC, maybe Wilkins who knows????? DAVE JONES out of work give him the chance or we are doomed, i’m sure he feels he has unfinished business after Hayward hung him out to dry in the Prem last time around …. Come on lets get behind whoever they appoint and the M&M we do care about this club!

Spot on comments – exactly my feelings!
I would add that Moxey has apparently denied offering the job to several managers. So how true were the various articles?
Is this E & S hype? Great reading, but the early apparent disclosure of Smith’s rejection is destroying the club I have supported all my life (65 years) Any manager worth his salt would seriously wonder whether he would wish to take the job on now!

Does anybody maybe think the fans should be looking a little closer to home for the reasons nobody wants the job?
Unrealistic expectations of the fans, delusions of grandeur with this ‘big club’ attitude, vitriolic booing of the manager when things don’t go as expected?
These people have memories, and past chairmen and managers have been treated disgracefully. Fact.
Adjustment to reality required. Yes, wolves *were* a big club. They are now a sensibly run club in a world of make-believe money. Mick had done well given his restrictions, and he was an honest guy.
Just my input as a Baggie in peace.

M and M who did you have in mind as first for the job?
Why did you not get him/her? If the person was first choice then you should have them not anyone else who is second, third, …..forty….
Do you realise that the others will think they are second best and not really wanted?
Why did you sack Mick when he was ( and still is)demanded by many loyal Wolves fans? Numpties excluded of course they do not count.

When are the Demo’s gonna start at Molineux.
This is as low as the club has ever been in my time supporting the Wolves.
Why is there a lack of communication from the board. I am not asking for intimate details but can we at least have an explanation from the board what Steve Morgans so called vision is. As i have not got a clue, at least the builders are getting on with things at Compton.
That was dealt with very quickly with the council, pity they do not have the same negotiating skills with potential new managers.

Perspe five please.
1 We are still in the premiership-
yes, at the wrong end and increasingly looking unlikely to get out of it, only ‘still’ there because you cant be got out till the end of the season, a team with 0 points would ‘still’ be there, this is not an achievement.
2 we have 13 games to save the season-
and given the win ratio based on games so far this season you expect how many points from those 13 games?
3 at least the ‘confusion’ proves that the management were honourable and not canvassing candidates behind MM’s back-
honourable, probably not the right word in this situation, foolish would be more appropriate.
4 the out of work managers turning us down can stay out of work as far as I’m concerned-
well that just being bitter, don’t you think?
5 we have a viable club with no debt we are properly financially run-
Yes, again dubious, don’t forget figures not in for this year yet, and, if done properly, will be 18 million down on a new stand for a start of.
6 it takes time to get the right people into the club – no panic-
No panic, ok, relegation zone, back of a mauling by the local rivals, mangerless, turned down by several replacements, some twice even, fans in utter turmoil, no transfer fund, not likely to attract any new signings in this situation, you just let everyone know when you think its ok to panic!
7 judge the management at the season end we need to pull together to avoide relegation-
Agreed, but I think I know how the majority will be judging it.
8 anyone who thinks this is bad has forgotton the dark days of the Bhatties and weeds on the south bank.-
Ah! that old chestnut, just because the club has now mor(gan)tgaged up to the hilt on a new stand doesn’t mean it is any better off. Give me 18 million to spend on a team, and I will pull the weeds up myself.
9 get a grip and give it time-
Sure, how much time do you reckon should be given?
Your right, after reading all your points its not that bad, is it, now where did I put them specs?

Agreed Morgan and Moxley have royally messed up the recruitment of the new manager and should hang their heads in shame at this embarrassing debacle.
However, will all you happy clappers stop harping on about McCarthy. He’s gone and he’s not coming back, so get over it! Two wins and just 11 points from the last 14 games (not to mention our biggest Prem home thrashing, against Sandwell of all people, in the last one!). What did you idiots see, in that game, which makes you think we would do any better under his stewardship in the final 13? We were only going one way and that was down into the Championship. Whomever the new Manager is (not Bruce please) I don’t expect to be called an “idiot”, “Numpty” or be offered out for a fight after watching another woeful home performance and daring to express our frustrations! Good riddance MM. I will always be gratful to you for what you did, but your eventual stubborn arrogance, disdain for us fans and ridiculous team selections/tactics had made you extremely dislikable and you certainly won’t be missed by me.
As for these two clowns in charge now; well they’re really going to have to pull something spectacular out of the bag now,if they expect me to renew my season ticket (after having one for over 20 years). I won’t hold my breath!
I think the sticking point is that Morgan won’t sign a clause prohibiting him from rolling into the dressing room after a loss and blowing the new managers credibility. Come to think of it, maybe it’s an organized effort by the managers to punish Morgan for his transgression. Except for Bruce, he’ll actually take the job

I am actually very happy McClueless went. One down two to go..Clipboard and Daley!!!
The results point to one inescapable fact – it is NOT WORTH the money(£30+) to go and watch a poor performing team. And all the comments after every game say the same thing they played poorly….so those supporting McClueless get a life after all he got an alleged six figure payoff.
Now a new manager will have the chance to put bums back on seats and bring in fans to Molineux by getting the players to play exciting football….otherwise more fans will stop going.
I am skint so it would take an extraordinary effort to make me spend £30 at Molineux.
And as for getting relegated…its no big issue to me now McClueless has gone because anything better is an improvement.

321 Gizmo, spot on, for all of the Wolves fans slating Morgan, take a look at what he has given us in his time, 43mill of player investment, a financially stable club and three years of prem football, you didnt get that under Hayward. Every bad result has ended in posts on here of “this is the worst time in my xx years as a supporter” crap. Who on earth would want to own and manage our club, with fans as fickle as ours. Carry on and watch Morgan walk and watch a consortium of no hopers come in and then lets see how bad things get. Mick had to go and maybe should have gone sooner, but do you not think the fans voice triggered this snap decision. Who cares if Morgan is making money on the housing deal at the training ground, wouldn’t you want some return on a multi million pound investment. And all the time all he gets is a slating.

Hi fellow posters
As you all know by this time I love Wolves and Glasgow Celtic with a passion. And for me to advocate ex-Rangers manager Walter Smith as a ‘quick fix’ solution to the Mol problem took some doing!! However, now that he is out of the frame,I still maintain he was the man for the job.
For Walter to turn down a lucrative 13-game contract must have stemmed from negative vibes from our boardroom.
I would now ask the powers that be to have a long, clear look at where the famous Wolverhampton Wanderers FC is going.
Finacially ok certainly, but for how long if the slide continues. Lots of empty seats in the new SC stand!
I am obviously praying that WWFC retain Premier League status, but I have my doubts.
Please Mr Morgan, put some real money into the club NOW and entice a top class manager who could bring the success we all crave.
Your revamped stadium would then be filled to capacity!!!

We can have some gallows humour, but for fans there are some serious issues here. This has been a mistake strewn season. What manager wants to join a club where transfer activity is so restained that it is highly unlikely that the manager’s perferred targets will ever be signed. What manager wants to join a club, where the owner might storm into the dressing room after a bad defeat.
We had a manager who won us promotion, after so many others had failed. Not only that he kept us in the Prem for 3 seasons earning the club over £120 million in the process. He was Wolves through and through and a good ambassador nationally for our club.He was undeafeted in our last 4 away games, including games at Spurs and Arsenal. He was sacked on a split vote.Mr Morgan admit you got it wrong and reinstate Mick McCarthy, now.

How did McCarthy achieve as much as he did under this pair of clowns???
In the spirit of Humility, I now profer the following suggestions to S Morgan;
1) Drive to Chez Mick toot bloody sweet, with a hefty bunch of flowers for Mrs M and an 18 month contract for Mick on improved terms, and give him your sincere assurances that he’ll be backed to the best of your abilities (say, half of whatever we receive for TV rights should we stay up; or a similar proportion of the parachute payments otherwise) in the Summer . Don’t leave said premises until you’ve got said contract signed.
2)Thereafter, speed dial J Moxey, thank him for his services to the Club, but advise him that you’re ‘regretfully’ terminating his employment on the grounds of his recent poor advice and comical ineptitude in respect of you-know-what
3)Get hold of Steve Coppell, respected former player, manager and Economics graduate, and offer him the vacant CEO’s post (best to first assure him that he’s the ONLY candidate under consideration!)
4)Call a Press Conference, admit that you got it wrong over the last 8 months, and announce that the planned Restaurant/Bar facilities for the NOrth Bank will now be scrapped in favour of a Sports Facility available at cut-price rates to local schools and youth clubs
5)Retire to your Cheshire mansion, and only take calls from Wolverhampton the next time the Transfer Window opens

Last week Mr Moxey said the new manager will be working for us. We won’t be working for the manager.
In other words the club is NOT working for the success of the football team. Or business comes first.
This says it all. I’m not surprised that footballing people don’t like that approach and turn us down.
Yes I’m fully behind a policy of not paying out players/managers etc above what we can afford. No argument. BUT the philosophy still has to be that everyone at the club puts football first and the manager is THE central figure for that.
Mr Moxey and everyone else’s job is to help the manager in everyday they can. That is the only reason for them being there. That is why the fans pay to go to matches plus plus plus. We don’t not pay to line Mr Morgans pockets.
Having been a regular since 1959 I’m depressed at where we’re now at. The enjoyment has been driven out of our club. I think I’ve now bought but 38 season tickets (a few years out when I played myself) but I think the end has arrived. Not helped by being allocated a seat right at the back of the stan culls for next season – with no discussion whatsoever

Let all the humilation lessen that as been given in spades by MORGAN and MOXEY…

He kept Wigan up and got Blues back up. He appears to really want the job unlike Curbishley and Smith. Can it really be worse than the last 25 league games and Clipboard being in charge for the rest of the season. Surely it is worth giving your support to someone who wants the job, he will be doing everything he caqn to restore confidence to keep us up and to me the thought of Clipboard fills me with dread!

I don’t always agree with what you say, but, I was pro MM and think you summed his strengths up perfectly. I said after the Villa & Spurs defeats (and I still think Karl Henry should hang his head in shame for not being on the pitch) that Albion would be his Waterloo if we lost. It would be interesting to see his reaction if he were asked to come back !
However, I think that is most unlikely.
Dave Jones is a realistic shout though. He was treated quite badly by Sir Jack. No financial backing when he finally got us up after all those years. I get the feeling he would be a popular choice.
One question. Is he a ‘nearly’ man? Soton, Us and Cardiff.
Another question, which all Wolves fans should know. Who is the only post war manager to return to Molineux ?

Our fans make me laugh. I’ve seen no less than ten IM NOT RENEWING MY SEASON TICKETS on here. What a joke! Call yourselves supporters? Fan is a better word. Short for fanatic. Support the club and your team and stop acting like spoiled brats who can’t have their own way. Some of you are an embarrassment. Unless of course those that say that are in fact twelve years old. In which case… GROW UP! Supporting wolves is a lifestyle choice. Anyone want to swap our current little roller coaster for the endless dross of the nineties and Glenn hoddle eras???? I thought not. here is a plan, the only one i can come up with and most wolves fans will not agree with me. here goes.
What is the point in hiring a manager that nobody wants at the moment.
Either swallow pride and get MM back, but not realistic,so i say give it to Terry Conner till the end of the season, the reason , he must have been doing something right to survive 4 managers since 1998 when he joinrd the club.He knows the players , he may be able to put some ideas forward that he may not have being a no 2 .Then the end of the season what ever league we are in ,and who knows it maybe the premier, the board can address the situation again and maybe appoint a manager that wants the job and who the fans would want,it would also stop all the speculation and turn downs from the so called managers who do not want the job, and then all focus can hopfully go on trying to stay in the premier league.

Were made to look like idoits time and again by the Board. Well ive had enough. You can firget it Moxley, im going to watch Gornal insteand!

This may not be a popular posting but here goes, Is Steve Bruce that bad as a new manager. Here are some points worth thinking about. He actually really wants the job, so would be determined to keep us up. He is not the only manager to get sacked. He kept Wigan up and got Blues back up. It cannot be worse than the last 25 league games and the possibility of Clipboard getting the job. Surely it is worth throwing our support behind Bruce who wants to manage Wolves unlike Curbishley & Smith. We have nothing to lose personally as our fixtures don’t look great but a fresh approach is needed.

il make a prediction that towards the end of the season many of the first team players will pick their game up conciderably and you will see some good individual performances in the hope of using the last few matches as a shopwindow for end of season transfers.

Obviously the board did not have a plan ‘B’ when they axed McCarthy after the mauling from West Brom. Clearly then, it was a knee-jerk reaction and dispite talking to some worthy candidates, we obviously are not offering an attractive enough package, even after making 2nd attempts. Suggests to me then, that the board do not have the best interests of the club at heart because if they had, they would of given Curbsihley what he wanted because he may of been the only one with a fighting chance of keeping us up. So as it stands, we may as well have kept McCarthy because now we have less hope of staying up than we did with him as manager. The board have turned this great club into a laughing stock. Sir Jack Haywood must be well impressed…
Report abuse
Having just watched TC’s press conference I was very impressed with the way he dealt with all the issues raised. He obviously has all the players 100% behind him.
So let’s see how things go at Newcastle. Everyone should get behind TC and the players.
A good result is a strong possibility and then onto Fulham. What price 2 or 3 points in the bag from these two games and then thump Blackburn.
Then you can forget all talk of a new manager at least until May.

I know a lot of supporters don’t have much time for Terry Connor, but if he’s in charge for the Blackburn game get behind him and the team.Could make for one of the best atmospheres of the season.

I fervently believe that if Morgan had taken over Liverpool, he would have run the club as a businessman and a football fan. Unfortunately for us, he runs our club solely as a businessman because Wolves isn’t in his blood, he can’t relate to the fans, the history of the club or the total humiliation he is putting us supporters through right now.
I hope this reminds you fellow supporters what a great man Sir Jack was, he put millions of pounds of his own money into the club, wrote off the debts owed to him and sold the club for a tenner to Morgan believing he was leaving the club to a man who would invest further and take the club onto the next level.
I feel sorry for Sir Jack right now, he must be wondering what the hell he has done – wishing he could get his tenner back.
I had a workmate taking the piss out of me today and he’s a Notts County fan!
Thanks Steve, thanks Jez.

Wanted one miracle worker on a 12 game contract. Must be thick skinned and used to abuse, wages? well don’t ask and you won’t be disappointed, but big bonus if the club is not relegated. Must be willing to work with current staff and put up with a chairman who has become prone to entering your domain i.e. the dressing room. No gurantee that you will be offered the job full time at the end of the season, and if you are, then you must be prepared to go along with the Chairman and CEO’s wishes at the expense of the fans. Previous premier league experience was initially essential, but due to lack of interest this may be waived. Steve Bruce please do not re-apply we know you want the job but we want someone better (however don’t go away because at the moment we may well still want/need you).

Fact is most of us would like you to stay up, most of us also feel that we are by no means safe either and are just concentrating on our fate.
So show some humility in future and maybe then you won’t be surprised at some peoples reaction when you go through difficult times.

Forgive me but did not Dave Jones once manage Wolves at some point? I remember he was at Cardiff ( Championship side still).
Wolves are looking for Dave to come onside again?
Why not wait until the season has ended and ask Mick back to either keep us in Premiership or take us back up from Championship. Same as asking DJ back! Seems sensible and fans will have cooled off and with M&MMess it will appear a sharp move. Win Win I would say with Mick.
I saw two cars today that had “? KK” registrations. Could the King be around Wolverhampton? I take my top off to M&M if they have interviewed him.

bringbacksammychung – his stats arent as bad as people are making out, but the one thing that sticks out is the fact that he was struggling with the exact same group of players who are now flying with a different manager.
Is he a bad manager? Of course he isnt, but personally I dont think he would be the right choice. and given the reaction most fans have made to him, I dont think it would be fair on him as he would be fighting an uphill battle straight away.
Personally I wouldnt mind an up and coming manager that none of us have even heard of as long as hes got a good footballing brain and plays the right kind of football.
Alternatively, I think Paul Ince could be a good shout. Most people wanted him before his spell at Blackburn, where he obviously struggled, but lets face it, Blackburn have been struggling for a while now, I think he would love the opportunity to manage Wolves, he would give our players a little bite to their play and being a relatively new manager he could possibly add a fresh approach. I also think the people writing him off because of a little blip at the start of his managerial career will be eating their words in 10 years time, as I genuinely beleive he has the know how and the enthusiasm to be a great manager, and for nostalgias sake, I would like to see that happen at Wolves.
I dont know what it is about him, maybe its the fact that he has shown he has qualities as a manager in the lower leagues, or maybe I think he will have something to prove which cant be a bad thing, but I genuinely believe whoever gives Ince his next chance will be glad of their decision, and lets face it we are definateltly running out of candidates.

Now there is virtually no where else to go that’s affordable or credible he will come along and offer to be a saviour; and because they you have no options will enable him to negotiate terms of employment better etc; because he works like that. Don’t be surprised people if he comes up on the rails and wins this one. At least he has passion and if you do go down you would come back up. Sue – If we get Bruce in then i’d give him a fair go. I actually dont have much problem with him.
However I may choose not to renew because although I have had a season ticket for 16 years I am not happy with who is running the club and believe the investment we fans are putting into the club each year is being misguided in his judgment.
I have no problem with the manager whoever it may be as such. The bad thing for me is the timing of Micks departure but that again is decision making abilities of those that run the club.
I probably will end up renewing as lets face it as frustrated as we get sometimes it is our beloved club but certainly I am becoming increasingly frustrated with the way Moxey conducts himself in the transfer market (evident in this manager hunt too), the buildings going up instead of team building and all the other drivle that comes with it e.g. how amazing we are going to be afterwards……………

Some real idiots on here spouting bring back Sir Jack and Morgan doesnt care about the club because he supports Liverpool and it wasnt this bad when we were in the 4th division.
Sir Jack tried to sell the club for 4 years as he was no longer prepared to Bankroll the club and the 1 season he got us to the Premier he invested little on keeping us there. Morgan has given us 3 years of premiership football & the only fault I can see is that he kept faith in the man who got us up for too long when it was obvious we were not progressing.
It wasnt better in the 4th Division, they were some dark days and only thanks to Steve Bull (can you imagine the uproar off the fans these days if we signed an Albion reserve !!) and Graham Turner who was booed quite often when he 1st came that we got back up the divisions..
This managerial saga hasnt been handled well but comparing it to the Bhattis and the consecutive relagations is a joke !!
