Kevin Doyle: It’s a gloomy feeling at Molineux
Thursday 16th February 2012, 12:30PM GMT.
Striker Kevin Doyle admits it has been “very flat” at the club since manager Mick McCarthy’s exit – but hope of a relegation escape is still strong.
Doyle added his voice to the theme of regret from McCarthy’s players that they were not able to put together a better campaign this season which would have kept the man who signed them in a job.
The Irish international has only just returned to the first team after his own loss of form.
“It’s been very flat around here – everyone’s very sad to see the manager go,” said Doyle. “He’s brought everyone to the club who plays here now and we all enjoyed playing for him.
“Everyone got on very well with the manager, myself especially, and we are going to miss him now.
“It is never nice because we all feel culpable, we are all part of it. I just wish we could have played that bit better and not ended up with the manager having to leave.
Unfortunately that is football. We have seen it happen before and I am sure we will see it happen again.”
But Doyle is promising 100 per cent backing for the man owner Steve Morgan selects to take up the reins with 13 games to go and Wolves in the bottom three of a five-team spread separated by just two points.
