Steve Morgan jets in to lead hunt for new boss

Owner Steve Morgan jets back from holiday today to take charge of a Wolves manager hunt he hopes to complete by the weekend.

Morgan, who was on a ski-ing trip when Sunday’s fateful  events led to his pulling the trigger on Mick McCarthy’s five-and-a -half -year Molineux reign, will be updated by chief executive Jez Moxey on the candidates lining up to fill the breach.

Wolves have described as “pure guesswork” reports last night that a three-man shortlist of Alan Curbishley, Neil Warnock and Steve Bruce had been compiled.

But the club do expect to conduct interviews of their favoured few by Friday in the hope that the new boss can have a full week to prepare for the trip to Newcastle and the start of the club’s 13-game bid for survival.

Morgan and Moxey will meet their men in a secret location, away from Molineux, but suggestions that they have already whittled down the candidates to Curbishley, Warnock and Bruce – all former Premier League bosses – are wrong.

Curbishley, who has topped fans polls since McCarthy’s exit on Sunday including pulling in a hefty 38 per cent of more than 6,700 fans in our online vote, does have an admirer in Morgan and is high on Wolves’ checklist.

But the club are less enthusiastic about Bruce and Warnock following their sackings from Sunderland and QPR respectively this season.

Wolves are focused primarily on choosing a man to lead the team out of their current relegation peril and as some names fall by the wayside, others bid for backing.

Popular former captain Paul Ince, whose initial managerial path has been blighted ever since his Premier League chance at Blackburn, is among them having indicated that he would relish the 13-game challenge to reach safety.

“Paul would love the opportunity to show what he can do,” said a source close to the man who was McCarthy’s main rival for the job in 2006. “A big part of his football heart is still at Wolves.”

* Wolves’ new boss should at least have further options after Karl Henry joined fit-again Ronald Zubar and Jody Craddock  in the reserves’ 3-0 defeat behind closed doors at Arsenal’s Colney training ground yesterday.

Who ever he chooses let’s hope we get some creativity from the play.

I bet he is well pleased with Johnson’s comments about the board was wrong to sack McCarthy, I would suggest he looks at the league table.

What the board did do wrong was wait too long before they took action, it leaves a new manager with a very difficult task.

Let’s hope that Morgan makes an early appointment so that whoever it is can prepare something before the next game.

If the new manager can get the defenders to at least defend corner kicks then that would be a major step forward.

If we are looking for a manager to saves us this season, stabilise and then grow/improve us I think Curbs is our man. His teams play good football, he has saved teams before and the job he did at Charlton was amazing. He has been out of the game for while due to a court case against Wes Ham and not getting the right offer. But he should be fresh and he hasn’t been far away from the game with his work for television. Does everyone agree?

Will he want a 13 game contract?? Will Moxey and Morgan stump up the wages for him? Or the cheap option again??

It’s nice of him to join us. I think he needs to go for a manager like Alan Curbishley. We need somebody who is going to come in and galvanise the players immediately. I think a young progressive manager is out of the question. Someone with the experience of being in this situation in the PL is the type of manager we need to go for. The idea of a short-term manager till the end of the season isn’t such a bad idea. They can preserve our PL status and then assess the situation at the end of the season. Out of the possible candidates Curbs has my vote.

Would like Lee Clark, Brendan Rogers, Paul Lambert or Martinez for long term planners, but we need someone with a pair to get us to safety.

One benefit a new manager will have is that he can assess the ability of each and every player on their respective merits, and then choose the best player for each position. It is a new start for all the players and they must now produce the goods if they want to be picked. A tough job but there are a number of teams around our level at this time and I am convinced we can pull away from the bottom three.Sunday was terrible and a long drive back to beautiful Cornwall in almost silence with my lad, what could we say but a poor, poor performance. All our players must be aware they are playing for their future at our great club. All the best from a bright but windy Lanyon hoilday park. Jamie

OK he was slow to react in sacking McCarthy but Curbishly could be the answer. At least he will not be a hoof and hope merchant like Mick M. His teams have always played a pass and move type of football.
Whoever takes over though has an almighty task to save us from relegation but we would have gone down anyway with MM in charge.

Curbishley, please. He has an excellent track record of keeping teams up, most notably dragging West Ham to safety after taking over, with 7 wins in their last 9 games, including a last day win away to Manure, although he did have more time, having been appointed in mid-December. If we go down, he has proved from his time at Charlton that he has the ability to get us back up (quickly) and keep us up. I understand that he has not applied for any of the jobs on offer since he left West Ham, but his three years out are the only question mark against him.

Hughton is a good call, especially as Blouse may be desperate for cash from someone buying him out of his contract, which is only a one year rolling contract anyway.

NO! NO! NO! to Warnock and Bruce. Bruce has only around a 30% win ratio from his last two clubs (Wigan and Sunderland). Warnock overall did not do enough in his brief Premier League experience at QPR.

I would not want to risk a manager without Premier League experience, especially experience of a survival fight, unless we were back in the Championship.

Im not entirely sure what you are basing that on. When Mick even comes out and says the perfomance is unacceptable……….. when we have been consitant in underperforming the whole season……….

What part of the last 23 games suggests we were heading in the right direction? We were getting worse! Even Mick said most other clubs would have sacked him by now.

The board of the club could not sit and do nothing! It is sad, great bloke, had some great years, but the basis of the clubs decision is on the results of the team, and they were simply not good enough. I would say the performances were at times even worse than the results.

You just have to glance at Swansea and Norwich. Why are they performing so well? High paid players? Massive wages?? or can it be…….wait for it………… 2 great managers!

Even though we’re in the Premier league, we’re not what I would call a successful club. We’ve stayed up for 3 seasons but only by the skin of our teeth!

    The Usual Suspects

The timing of MM’s sacking is very bad imv; If the board had taken any notice of the stats and facts they would have moved him on ages ago!

Imv Jez Moxey has kept MM on for as long as possible as I believe that Moxey doesnt want anyone at the club that will disagree with the way he deals with players and staff

Furthermore I also believe that Jez Moxey has a ‘free hand’ to do as he wishes because he ‘airs’ too much on the side of caution with most decisions – which shows with the backroom staff that we have: Terry Connor – Tony Daley and whoever took over from Bobby Mimms as goalkeeping coach (Who?)

Steve Morgan is far far too reliant on Jez Moxey who hasnt moved the club forward commercially imv and also restricted the clubs recruiting of full time Prem proven and gone for targets that have in the main made little or no difference

The club needs to take a leaf out of Alex Fergusons book and look to improve the coaching staff (Ray Wilkins is a good shout) and not just look at short term fixes I also noted that Baggies have a certain Keith Downing in their ranks of coaching staff a man who use to grace our team and added the bite it badly needed

Job Done Jez imv is far far too comfortable in his role and do we really need a lethargic CEO and an Owner who takes his hols when the most important game of the season for what is HIS football club is being played?

Finally, Stoke have Gerry Francis and also had Peter Reid – Bolton have now gone for Sammy Lee in their coaching staff Who have we got ???? doesnt this all smack of lethargy and make do attitudes from the board???

Good luck to Mick, good four years, best to forget the last 18 months. In the end poor signings cost him, had more money than most and wasted it. Like everyone else, don’t want any of the 3 “favourites”. We must look to the long term. Can’t see short term working, if someone does manage to keep us up, which is a big ask by the way, then surely they will be offered the job long term any way so let’s get the right man now.

For me the manager has to be young and hungry, not just the players, and he must have good experience playing or working for top managers and they have cut their teeth at lower levels and show great potential. Lambert and Rodgers are great examples of this.

I would go for any of Solskjaer, Hughton, Lee Clark or Poyet. If we are going to be short sighted, I think Curbs and Ince could work, it’s not like Ince is being inundated with managers jobs.

Must get rid of Terry Connor!

Bruce and Warnock are not what Wolves are wanting especially if one takes what Jez Moxey is saying at face value.
Both make excuses and others are to blame for their failures,Warnock will bring the club into disrepute with his constant moaning and whingeing.
Bruce as spent millions at Sunderland players from all over the world and some of those players have been hugh successes,Bruce is a passionate man but his passion can be misguided and he can split opinion and dressing rooms with his no nonsense approach.
May be if we want a few home truths rammed down the likes of Johnson,Doyle,Jarvis,SEB,Berra,Stearman,O’hara,Hunt, then he should be appointed.
Has these players have underperformed and some have just not improved,Berra remains a “shirt puller”!
Johnson says the players are to blame,Ok so how many times did he have team meetings with them to tell them that!!It was not just Sunday how about the last 22″GAMES”!No good coming out and saying it know!!
So Bruce I could see only for the 13 games nothing more,as he will know this his bonus should be based on staying up “ONLY”!
Longterm he is not the manager.
Curbs from what is available could do a short and longterm job but is a little “BORING”!
Paul Lambert is and would be a fantastic choice. His team play well, defend well etc..He does not spend millions and the players that he brings in are put into the team.
Seems very level headed and a Manager who will be Manager for a bigger club in the future.
Chris Hughton will also be a good recruit, very unassuming man feet on the ground and can work in all types of atmospheres,he was sacked unfairly from Newcastle everyone in the games knows it.
If we wanted to become high profile and loved by the media and get our games to be shown on MOD then Kevin Keegan,he will give the players and the fans an “IMMEDIATE LIFT”!
I would just worry about are defending!!!!Atleast we will be firing bullets at the other end!!May be that is exactly what is required to win 5-6 games! on paper we have games that are winnable even the “NEWCASTLE” game,as they were one of the teams we outplayed!

The players will have a legend to look at and he would immediately help them from any “MICK” hangovers, the fun factor is needed and he is the man for that, the media will immediately want wolves to stay up purely due to headlines “KEVIN KEEGAN SAVES WOLVES”!

Seriously Mr Morgan, get it right and not just someone on the cheap, Lets take one step backwards if we have too and appoint someone who may not save the season , but will move us forward again and play some good attacking football. So that we become a creditable force in the game and not the premier league whipping boys. The championship is our best way to regroup and progress long term. For me, it really shouldn’t be Warnock and I’m not sure about Bruce either. Curbishley is a good choice but he has been out of the game for a while. Benitez would also be good. There are of course so many others who could do the job well, its just attracting them across for this challenge.

Putting the task into perspective though, we are level on points with the 2 teams directly above the relegation zone. I’m not at all deluded to think that it will be an easy task – but it could be far far worse.

I just hope and pray that the right decision is made sooner rather than later (although nothing too hasty). Although it was 100% the correct decision to fire McCarthy, don’t know about anyone else, but I have felt really ‘lost’ since Sunday. He did exactly what we’d waited all those years for, what a string of managers had failed, very expensively, to do(Dave Jones excepted, where the irony was SirJH never backed him financially). Unfortunately for Mick the Premiership was a bridge too far, but, that doesn’t make him a bad manager, nor a bad person.
14 Jonboy. Is there no bounds to the stupidity of some posters on this site ? Morgan out ! Really ? Here’s a chairman who has brought stability and progress. He’s made mistakes, sure, like his dressing room debacle and, allegedly, not backing MM during the last two windows. Would you rather have a chairman like David Murray ? Almost singlehandedly brought down one of Europe’s biggest clubs with reckless spending. Or some foreign owner to put us in the same jeopardy as Birmingham, Portsmouth and a myriad of others.

Ironically, of what appear to be the three leading contenders, Neil Warnock, with his knowledge of the game and his penchant for gamesmanship, could be the most likely to save our skins in 13 matches, but, would any of us like to see him long term ? From the reaction so far, No !
It would also appear, now that the barriers are coming down, and some of the hacks, national and local, are giving us the low down, Jez isn’t the pantomime villain some of our supporters make him out to be. Seems he’s done a fair job.
One thing that was interesting from a couple of journalists. Mick wasn’t Morgan’s choice, he inherited him, and maybe his jacket was always on a shakey peg. They fell out a few times (like Old Traffordgate) but always kissed and made up. However, during the dressing room outburst he not only tore into the players, but, the manager too, in front of the players ! Bad move ! Their relationship was doomed from that moment.

Whoever takes over will now in all likelihood take the club down. My own mood swingometer has moved from slightly optimistic to avoid relegation, to very pessimistic.

Can I just make a simple point?

The ‘numpties’ who posted on message boards are in no way responsible for Mick’s dismissal. They were simply fans expressing their opinions. In actual fact Mick enjoyed the solid backing of a vast majority of fans for most of the last 5 and a half years.

There was some dissent at the time of the Swansea game but even up to the Liverpool game he still probably had the baking of a majority of fans.

In the end he lost his job because performances and results simply weren’t good enough and the board (not the fans/numpties) made a decision. I doubt that any manager, at any club could survive a similar run of results culminating in a 5-1 hammering at home v their local rivals.

Whether you liked him or not, the fact is he did get us promoted and kept us up giving us our most succesful period in many years. If thats not enough to earn respect from supporters what is?

imo should have asked mick to step down at the end of last season, we all saw it coming but much as i admire loyalty in this day and age it could have been handled at lot more professional than it has, new stand for a ground we didnt and looks like we will never fill, why. love to hear the reason for this but we will never hear it. I hope for the clubs sake we dont implode but it looks like we are going to, worse case we go down, best we stay up by the skin of our teeth, but looking at the defence currently, worse case looks most likely. Dont want to blame it an individual, but since roger came in with got worse, making him captain and the high wages factor must have pissed off the squad, esp as he is dreadful. Bassong was sorting the defence on sunday till he went off, thats supposed to be your job roger, not a loan players who has been here a couple of weeks.

Well I’ve always been a huge fan of Morgan but in the last few weeks he has really gone down in my estimation. Firstly he goes on a skiing trip on wolves biggest game of the season and he gets moxey to do his dirty work with regards to getting rid of McCarthy. I think the very least mad Mick deserved was Morgan flying back to give him the news in person.

Definitely think curbs is the man. His record for west ham was 101 points in 71 games which is alot better than the point a game or less that we are used too.

Firmly believe we have the players available to survive this season. Will the new manager be able to identify the square pegs in round hole syndrom that MM was so fond of and fully utilise the squad he will inherit.LB will be a major problem as only Ward is left and he is not (never will be )a left back. Also the 4 man midfield with 2 wing men will need to be addressed. An experienced head is required and like a lot have suggested Curbishley ticks all the boxes, would also like Morgan to send a message of intent for the remainder of the season perhaps by bringing in Wilkins as no2.Whoever is appointed needs the support of everybody who loves our great club.

Curbishley as Manager and Ince as Coach would be a strong combination, and much less risky than choosing an up and coming Manager at this stage of the season. Might not be too fanciful either as Curbishley does not have ready made backroom staff, and Ince has often stated his interest in returning to Wolves. Hughton would be a great alternative, but seems to have ruled himself out (although I don’t think in the strongest way), and the Blues may drag out the negotiations to get the most compensation possible. He might be an option if we get relegated and the Blues don’t make it up…

The players are capable of results, they have shown us that, they are as good as anything in the bottom 8,but only seem to produce if they put in a good “shift”. That cannot be done week in week out. We have to keep the ball more and have a more patient approach not bomb forward at every opportunity leaving exposed at the back. We need a manager who has experience in whats needed to play and stay in the premiership, thats Alan Curbishley for me.

I just hope this decision will be based on football terms rather than financial terms, so SM must take the lead rather than JM.
I would love a young up and comming manager in the Paul Lammbert mold but we haven’t got time for that. He has had nearly 2 years to get Norwich playing as they do. I also think short term contracts don’t work as any manager can just walk away if they fail (Shearer at Newcastle)
I also think that whoever comes in does not have that difficult a job to do. There are 5 teams down at the bottom and we are no worse than any of them. A new manager has to organise the back 4. Drop Johnson out of the firing line for Jody and get them defending in a staight line 6 yards further up the pitch.
We may have to sacrifice a RW so we can flood the midfield and just make us harder to beat. How good would a couple of clean sheets feel.
We have good firepower with fletcher and Doyle should play in Edwards position behind Fletch. Jarvice should stay out on the LW and be told to have confidence and attack his man every time.
I don’t think we are such a bad team but the management and tactics have been very inconsistant this season and that’s being kind to MM.
I hope AC comes in because I think we need something new and fresh for the future so that means a definate no to NW and SB.
Can we please stop crying over MM now, he has gone and deserved to. We have a good chance of staying up now if we get solidly behind the new boss. This is the biggest decision of SM’s football life, lets hope he gets it right !!

Fact – £40 million in under 3 years is not a lack of backing. The likes of Norwich, Swansea and another club who’s name eludes me but for some reason the numbers 5 and 1 pop into my mind, would all have loved that kind of ‘lack’ of backing.

Proof – if Morgan didn’t back McCarthy than how is it possible that 2 players deemed superfluous to requirements by a certain Mr McCarthy, as they weren’t up to the standard required to be in his squad, are currently regulars in the Norwich midfield?

Lee Clark just got fired by Huddersfield Town and he is only four points off the promotion positions in League One!!! He is highly rated and has a very good track record and has narrowly missed promotion in the past. And he has developed some good young talent which would maybe justify all the money we are committing to an Academy. It would not surprise me if MM ends up at Huddersfield being only a short trip from Barnsley!!!

It will be a complete lottery as to whether or not we stay up and I think we should find a Manager with a good team of coaches that will allow us to bounce back and provide stability and new thinking.

I am not sure that hiring a short term Manager with a review in the summer is the way to go. Who is to say that one of the people being touted for the job currently would stay here anyway if they pulled it off? We do not an egotistical maniac running the team, we need quality in terms of technical training , tactics and motivation.

I do think that Curbishley like Hoddle will want guarantees on budgets and will probably not get it so unless its short term only then we could be faced with Warnock or Bruce. We have to remember that our squad is made up entirely of players of Championship class or less so we really are up against it and we may have to rebuild from the Championship. Thanks for pointing ou AC’s court case which effectively kept him out of the game for 18 months. Since then he has turned down offers but he obviously thinks this could be a good job for him.
His record is so good that he was once shortlisted for the England job and has been able to take his time and wait for the right job because he is that well thought of in the game.
I can’t see any other candidates that stand up to him so I don’t know why SM is wasting time, he should be appointing him tommorow.I think he is probably the only one who could unite the fans behind him including all the ones crying in their beer over MM.
However being Wolves supporters we know that everything could go horribly wrong whoever we appoint, but as I previously stated I don’t think we are such a bad side and the next manager could become a hero in a very short space of time.

Please give us your footballing reasons why Mick should not have been sacked?
While you look for answers, bear in mind that football managers are paid big money to win not lose games and have a close look a micks winning record this season.
How many homes games lost 7 or 8 ?
    Conceding 2 goals every game?
Spent at least 10 million in the transfer market??

Its simply staggering that after Mick spent 40 million over 3 seasons on new players and wasted most of it with 7/8 of the championship campaign players still in the team every week, you think Morgan should have given Mick even more transfer money. Why??

I wonder if any of you play football manager games like Championship manager on the pc or games console???.
Well I do from time to time and I can tell you that with Micks record you would be sacked in all of these games.

I know that you and many others have a strong affinity to Mick. But Mick is not bigger than this club. To put it into perspective Dave Jones was also at the club for 5 years.

Mick will be back in management and one day will come back managing the away team and will get a good reception. He did a good job but his future lies elsewhere so please move on.

How do you know that the offer is attractive enough for any of them to want to risk their sanity on trying to rescue the situation? The longer term opportunity may not be big enough.

Lovely bloke but failed miserably at Stafford and also has been heard to voice the opinion that only 4 of the current squad are worth keeping. Ince? No, too divisive and a big ego. Keegan? No, out of game too long. Maybe the Huddersfield lad as a coach with an experienced Prem manager would be the strongest bet. Whatever happens it needs more than just a manager. The change needs to come from scouting through academy and up to the top. Build a real long term development stratgey which is about more than property.

    Turban Myth

Urban myth #356 – the Wolves job is a poisoned chalice.

So no manager would be tempted by say -

The ongoing investment in the team (40million over 3 seasons)

    The A grade academy plans

    Finances in the black

    Large rewards for success

Support far more loyal than it is ever given credit for (how many Mick out chants were there exactly despite 18 months of fighting relegation)?

Loyal/patient board – the last manager who could legitimately claim to have been dismissed prematurely would be Graham Taylor (and then there were mitigating circumstances as he came with the ‘do I not like that’ baggage).

New ground plans (yeah well sort of).

Still don’t let the facts get in the way of the cliches.

It looks very likely that it will be curbs, well ok, but if it is we MUST get rid of Conner also, why does he stay in job manager after manager when he works the most with players?? its really beyond me!! and i then echo the number 2 being Wilkins or Ince!

Its time to stop looking at the past and pointing the finger of blame. We need to look for the future.

As I see it, there are 2 choices

    1. Stake everything on appointing an “established manager” (please not Warnock or Bruce) and gamble on staying up; or

    2. acknowledge that relegation is a distinct possibility and go for a younger manager with a view to building for the future. We need to accept that some of the brightest rising stars may not want to leave their existing employers to chance coming to Molineux with the disruption and departure of players that losing our premiership status would bring.

Steve Bull is held in the highest esteem by myself and all Wolves fans but he lacks the necessary FIFA coaching badges to manage a premiership club. I suspect that the same applies to Paul Ince who was off playing golf when he was supposed to be working on his qualifications.

I don’t want to add to the awful abuse that has been aimed at Terry Connor but its probably time for a clearout of those too closely linked with MM and let Jody Craddock take charge of first team affairs until the new manager is appointed.

Whatever happens, everyone at the club – Board, Management, Coaches, Players and, above all, the fans need to present a united front when football recommences and stick together supporting the team until the end of the season even if things don’t go well.

The boo boys have had their wishes granted, its now up to them to show that they can actually support the club.

Im sure many on here dont even know his role as assistant manager but judge him soley on the fact he has a clipboard, which is laughable at best. I dont think ive ever read a single comment criticising him for anything other than having a clipboard.

Dont get me wrong, I feel changes need to be made, particularly to our coaching staff, as its evident that our players need allot of work, particularly on their passing and movement, but criticising a coach based on how you see him and not based on what you know hes done is very discriminative. You may aswell be saying get rid of him because hes black, because that is just as ignorant and moronic as many of you sound.

    214. Realist – I have to say that I have posted a number of comments about TC and having been down to training many times I know exactly what his role is and what his outputs unfortunately aren’t. Sadly these have all too often played themselves out in our first team games. There is a systematic failure of the coaching at Wolves from youth team to first team and it ultimately stems from two people, McCarthy and Connor. TC has outlasted three managers now (five if you count the end of Colin Lee’s reign and John Ward’s interim time as boss). Glenn Hoddle was told in no uncertain terms that when he came in there would be no changes to the backroom staff and we seem to have gone down that line for sometime at Wolves. You only have to look at Huddersfield – Lee Clark has gone and, yes, he brought in most of his backroom team, but they have gone too. It has to be a clean sweep for me, particularly when TC has proved he is not good enough at this level. The only problem I have with TC is he is not good enough as a coach – if he was we wouldn’t be making the stupid, fundamental on field errors that you wouldn’t even find in a decent Sunday league team. Standing off players, giving them too much time on the ball, no movement, passing sideways, losing possession in our own half, actually wanting the ball when there’s a throw-in – I could go on – and what’s worse is it hasn’t changed in many, many years. Perhaps there’s a common link?
I’ve said for some time that whoever has been responsible for the coaching should be sacked – one of them has gone. The other has to follow.
It’s got to be a clearout now so that the Board can actually demonstrate that they both understand the fundamental problems and have learnt from past mistakes.

Backslapping each other? No. Flying Winger and I are just agreeing on certain points -not all points, as you rather misguidedly seem to think. You’ve got some sort of ‘Mick Complex’ whereupon nobody should post anything unless it gets your personal seal of approval. Another word for it is ‘pathetic’. Grow up, kid.

As it happens, I agree with many fans’ points from time to time -yes, even as varied a selection as SBQ, Sue, Streako, RichWolf, Wanderer In Eire, Johnwolf, Noisy, 100% Wolf, Silver Wolf etc…get the drift, here? I’m flexible and respect other fans’ opinions, whatever they may be. Maybe you should learn to do the same instead of coming across as a sourpuss simply because you didn’t like my candid opinion of Mick McCarthy. Had you taken the trouble to read all my posts (instead of having selective vision), you’d have noticed I gave Mick plaudits as well as criticism -and have done so on many past occasions. However, despite his good points, I’m glad he’s gone -sorry if that deeply upsets you (and I’m sure it does).

My views are -and always have been- ‘middle ground’. I’m not a so-called ‘Happy Clapper’ (as others refer to them), nor am I one of the ‘Moaners’ who -according to some- “hate Mick” and criticise everything the club does. I have a balanced view thanks to the two eyes I’ve got. Accordingly, my views fluctuate and are subject to change depending on circumstances. I’ve no hidden agenda, nor do I gratuitously kiss the club’s ass simply because they’re ‘my club’ and can ‘do no wrong’.

I’m quite happy to engage in friendly, courteous and sensible debate with anybody -who knows, I might even agree with much you say, too- but dealing with sourpusses who make snidey little remarks aint my bag because I’ve got better things to do. Go bug someone else -there’s plenty of genuine McCarthy ‘Haters’ out there for you to enjoy sniping.

I’m a big fan of Alan Curbishley and feel he should get the job. So much so that I will seriously consider giving up on Wolves (as long as Morgan is the owner) if they appoint Bruce or Warnock instead.
Having gone to the trouble of sacking MM after all the blah blah of how much faith thy had in him, it seems to me that Messers Morgan & Moxey, really DO have our survival in this league at the forefront of their thinking. Shame they have shown themselves incompetent of acting sooner and also of recognising I ow foolish they have been in giving McCarthy so much leeway to be so hopeless (as he obviously was, nice guy notwithstanding!! etc etc.)
If I’m wrong, I’ll humbly eat these words. I say this because I am confident that neither Warnock nor Bruce, nor Roy Keane for that matter, will rise to the occasion.
Curbishley is our man because he wants it. And he can do it, he’s shown that before, nobody else who’s in the running can lay claim to that.

I was sad to see Mick go. Watched a video on the Wolves site a few days ago about the good times with Mick in charge – and there are quite a few!

However, the table and stats don’t lie. We have not been good enough and I can understand Morgan sacking him as we have made no progression since getting promoted and I hate the way we play football. We never make an attempt to get foreward with some threat about us. It’s just passing it sideways or backwards and I bet Hennessey has had more back passes than any other keeper in Prem history!

With 13 games left, we need a man that can motivate first and foremost. But I want to see us attack and play good football that is pleasing to watch just like Swansea and Norwich this year. Don’t be afraid to have a go at teams and defend properly. Be organised! I think Morgan needs to think about the future long term rather than just these next 13 games though. We need to survive this year and then push on next year.

I personally think that, out the ones available, Curbishley is the best. His record doesn’t lie and his teams play good football. If I had my realistic choice though, I would love either Chris Hughton or Ian Holloway. They are both exciting managers that like there teams to attack and are both generally good guys that would suit what we are looking for, especially Hughton. However, both have denied wanting the job so there goes them two! Paul Lambert would also be good but like Hughton and Holloway, he doesn’t want it.

All I can say is, Alan Curbishley would not be bad at all, I wouldn’t mind him one bit. But if Morgan wants somebody special, don’t be afraid to fight for them and don’t be afraid to pay. But Curbishley wouldn’t be bad at all.

To be honest, Mick has done great for us since arriving. When he arrived, we were a mid table championship club which everyone thought would be fighting for relegation the following year due to the disastrous campaign under Hoddle. We had a squad of about 20 and 9 of those were youth. And in just under 6 years, he has made fantastic buys, got us promoted as champions and kept us in the Prem for two years running at least. So before I go on, I want to say:

    Thanks Mick!

But I fully agree with Morgans decision to sack him. The table and stats don’t lie and we have made absolutely no progression while in the Premierleague. And I have to say, what really angered me the most, was the way we play football. It’s an absolute disgrace and something that Mick needs to take the blame for as he is setting the players up. Every single game, we make no attempt to attack with some threat about us and it’s pathetic. When we get the ball, instead of going forward and trying to score, we pass either sideways or backwards and it eventually goes all the way back to Hennessey. I don’t think Mick McCarthy has heard of counter attacking! Its absolute ludicrous and boring and frustrating to watch. I mean, look at Swansea and Norwich. They have a no better squad than us and look where they are. Highflying! Why? Because when they get the ball, they are not scared to attack and play exciting football. They have managers who want the fans to watch an exciting game. They have no better squad than Wolves but there attack minded approach has virtually guarenteed them prem footie again next year. I have to say it, I fully blame Mick for our position at the moment. We don’t score because we don’t set up to and along with bad defending, confidence goes and before you know it we are in a real tricky situation to stay up!

So for what Mick has achieved, a big thank you is needed for him. But Morgan was right, he has to go. Hopefully the new man will keep us up by playing good, attacking, exciting football just like we’re capable of!
