Wolves striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake today declared his aim to earn his place in Black Country derby folklore by achieving a special milestone.

The 25-year-old marksman goes into Sunday’s showdown against the Baggies seeking his 50th goal for Wolves.

Ebanks-Blake, whose 49 strikes have come in just 95 starts in a total of 140 games, would become the first Wolves player to achieve the feat since Kenny Miller in April 2005.

“I haven’t scored against Albion yet – so getting the 50th against them would be nice,” said the double Championship Golden Boot winner.

“If that shot against Liverpool had gone in and not hit the post that would have been it.

“And I’ve not scored from outside the box so even though the result was disappointing it would have been nice.

“Hopefully it will come soon – it will be long-awaited. More importantly though is we win, however we do it.

“In derbies you normally throw form out of the window. It’s always been a hard game against Albion since I’ve been here.”

Ebanks-Blake has been forced to take much of a back seat for the third season in a row due to his hamstring injury, the form of Steven Fletcher and boss Mick McCarthy’s choice of playing one up front.

But after playing for 76 minutes of Saturday’s welcome 2-1 win at QPR, the former Manchester United is buzzing to feel part of the team.

“I’m feeling good. It’s nice to be involved especially on days like Saturday,” he said.

“The whole club needed three points and to be a part of that was a great feeling.

“Everyone got a lift from Saturday and we need to continue that into the coming weeks.”

With Rangers down to 10 men, McCarthy played with three strikers and Ebanks-Blake believes that attacking system could work again.

“Getting the three of us on the pitch for the second half worked well,” he said.

“We wanted to keep the pressure in their box, so we all changed positions like we have in training and it worked.

“We had a lot of shots and looked to cause some havoc. I don’t see why we couldn’t play that way again.

“Kevin Doyle played well in that role and we can all interchange when necessary. I’ve played there in the past and so has Fletcher.

“I’m not saying it would be our first choice to play in the position, but the options are there.”
