Wolves eye move for Newcastle pair

Wolves are this weekend weighing up a loan raid on Newcastle to freshen up their attack before the transfer deadline shuts.

Leon Best and Peter Lovenkrands are being eyed by Molineux top brass after being made available by boss Alan Pardew.

Senior sources have confirmed Wolves are pondering a move for one of the two, although direct contact at executive level is still to be made between the clubs.

Newcastle are preparing to welcome back new signing Papiss Demba Cisse and Demba Ba from Senegal duty in the African Cup of Nations on Tuesday, in time for them both to start at Blackburn on Wednesday.

And their eagerly-awaited return will push Best and Lovenkrands closer to the exit door, with Hatem Ben Arfa and vice-captain Shola Ameobi also above them in the pecking order.

That has alerted Wolves, whose efforts to strengthen their attack have stalled just months after they turned down Ba because his wages were too expensive when he left West Ham.

Boss Mick McCarthy is understood to have funds at his disposal, but with his main targets unavailable, loans have become the more likely option.

Tentative loan enquiries for Manchester United’s Mame Biram Diouf and Bolton veteran Kevin Davies never went further and Best and Lovenkrands are two of several alternatives being considered.

Nottingham-born Best, 25, has been a regular in 2011-12, making 17 Premier League appearances, including 15 starts, scoring four goals.

An Ireland international, he is well known to Wolves’ scouts and has caught the eye with his size and workrate.

Best has scored 10 goals in 29 league starts since a £1m move from Coventry in January 2010.

Wiry ex-Rangers and Schalke man Lovenkrands, 31, made the last of six Premier League appearances this term on December 3.

The experienced Dane, who scored in the Magpies’ 4-1 win over Wolves last April, is keen for a fresh start with his contract up in June.

both championship players at best, the story about fotheringham last week was also a joke. if this all we can get then it really will be the championship next season for us. i truly think keogh is worth keeping, great player at that level and thats where were going.
im sick of supporting this joke, but its in my blood so i have no choice. come on mr morgan, put some proper money in to it for once!!

daft. there is no mention of either being ‘made available’. all our players have their price, but there has been no effort to push these guys out

Why do we keep looking at strikers……. We need a defensive midfielder or a left back and a centre back. Let’s loan Wayne bridge as the least worst option and maybe if you’re desperate for a striker Tevez is available get him on loan.

We are really scraping the barrel now……
Its too late, far too late, the only constructive move Wolves can make now, is to dismiss the ‘fool’ and prepair for further losses against Liverpool & QPR, and may be, just maybe a fighting draw against Albion.

Mick McCarthy must leave Wolves before the end of the season, I for one do not want him associated with Wolves next season in the Championship.
Thanks Mr Morgan, our future was always in your hands, it still is I suppose, God hep us… because our owner need one hell of a push

Chris number 3…fully agree that not to resign Keogh will be a big mistake. While the lad found the Premiership difficult, he is a pretty fair forward in the Championship, as evidenced with some of his games for Leeds

He will fit in well with Doyle and Ebanks as we sure as hell will not have Fletcher around

They wouldn’t would they , we’re down now and I hope Morgan is happy with himself because all the blame is his. , he has stuck with this abysmal manager and his back room buffoons and I for one can’t wait to hear what is spouted when we’re officially down

What is the matter with the management (always supposing this story is true of course), both those players are second rate otherwise Newcastle wouldn’t let them go! Anyway, I’d far rather see Vokes or even Keogh in the starting eleven than those two! We are supposed to be strenghtening in order to stay up, not signing players for the Championship, as we’ve got plenty of those!

Every transfer window has been virtually the same. We nearly got…..we are enquiring about…. wqe are in discussion with….. etc etc. We are amongst the favourites for relegation therefore the management are reluctant to spend. Relegation could be the best thing that could happen here. For some clubs it seems to inject some of the old virtues of team ethic, desire and self confidence, as in Newcastle and West Ham and dare I say it Sandwell. The transfer posturing and fake intent is channeled to the fans via this very publication The E & S. I realise they can only print what is given from the 3 M’s or Hear No, Speak No and See No (you choos who is who) but please give the fans some credit, we are not all hard of understanding out here.

This particular transfer window is like receiving Chinese Water Torture without wright! Seems hopeless from a supporter’s point of view just as it does that nothing of real merit or quality is being organized and coming to fruition for the club.

Nobody really wants to come to Wolves, if any player of true Premiership substance. Really sad, but I am beginning to realize we may have to finish out the season the way we started, with little left in the cupboard to serve up a delegation survival fight!

I daresay that those same senior sourses at the club are pondering a move for a number of players. However, as most supporters know by now, the club do not reveal their intended transfer targets until an offer has been made and becomes common knowledge.

It’s questionable whether either of the two Newcastle players mentioned are any better than what we already have at the club. I suppose one of them could be used as a back-up in the same way as we had Marcus Bent (remember him?)a year or so ago.

If we are going to make a serious move for a striker who can actually score goals then let’s go for Jordan Rhodes. A player (Vokes or Keogh or both) plus money should be possible to swing it. Otherwise let’s focus on bringing in a quality central defender.

With nothing to lose now we should be giving players like Danny Batth and Zele Ismael a run in the first team.

Both have so much promise and yet MM picks some kid nobody has ever spoken about to play on the right wing.

This club is a joke. I can’t remember the last time one of our academy kids became a first team regular.

26 Johnwolf you just dont get it do you.
No-one thinks MM hasn’t done a good job getting Wolves into the premier, but the fact is even with wolves tinted glasses he doesn’t seem to know how to take us any further, the main coach has been with us for years and under every manager he has been with the football has been the same. MM does not give the younger players a chance and does always revert to type and pick his favourites.
SM is making a great job of the stadium but the only reason this has had to stop is because he has took his eye off the ‘product’ (I sound just like JM) ie the Team. I for one appreciate what SM is doing and have only ever questioned his failure to act now that it is obvious MM and TC can take us no further. I have to agree with other comments on this board what player in their right mind would want to come and play for wolves at this moment
Facts are facts 7pts from 9pts first 3 matches 11pts from 54pts last 18 matches.
surely everyone can see the progress we are making ;)
