Wolves stand by under-fire Mick McCarthy

Wolves today insisted it was business as usual after quashing rumours that manager Mick McCarthy had been sacked.

Internet messageboards and social networking site Twitter were swamped with the rumours yesterday afternoon that McCarthy had been dismissed following Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat to Villa.

That reverse stretched Wolves’ run to two wins in 20 games and plunged the team into the relegation zone for the first time this season, sending the rumour mill into overdrive.

The Express & Star received a record number of online responses following the game from livid supporters.

McCarthy is today ranked as favourite in the list of Premier League managers to be sacked, at 2-7, despite rumours last night that betting on him had been suspended.

But, although poor results continue to increase the pressure on McCarthy, senior sources at Molineux denied the speculation surrounding the manager, who has been in charge for five-and-a-half years.

There was no official comment from the club as Wolves didn’t want to respond to speculation or deliver what could be seen as a vote of confidence.

Officials say nothing has changed and they are keen to sign another player before the transfer window shuts in nine days’ time.

Chief executive Jez Moxey said: “We’re working hard as we always do to see if we can bring in a third signing of the window.”

Nedum Onuoha was McCarthy’s main transfer target but Wolves appear to have missed out on the 25-year-old because of his wage demands, although they did speak with his club Manchester City on Friday.

QPR agreed a fee of £3m with City but the move hasn’t yet gone through, with reports of late interest from Everton.

Meanwhile, McCarthy admitted Wolves weren’t good enough after their latest setback. Wolves were 2-1 up at half-time after producing some of their best football this season. But they went down 3-2 after Robbie Keane’s brace.

McCarthy said: “It’s just not good enough. Based on the first-half performance, when we were terrific, we should have won. We let them off the hook.”

That’s the sort of news we’ve come to expect from this lot, they don’t care if we get relegated or they would have done something months, even years ago. We are doomed with McCarthy, Moxey and Morgan running the club. They do not deserve our support. For goodness sake, protest at the next home game and at least let them know that this is unacceptable.

Whilst we all know the results and performances are not good enough, going back to the early 80s with protests etc aint going to do us any good. When that last happend we went through the leagues and took over twenty years to get back. I know of players who wont come to wolves because of the way the supporters turn on the club.

Wake up and see what is happening. I have a lovely, pristine, hardworking car on the drive, its done me proud over the years, but the engine is knackered, is looking tired and just isn’t up to the daily strains that is required any more. It struggles to start at all and when it does, only manages 30mph. the tyres are bald and has run out of petrol. Do I (a) keep going with it, after all it has been a decent car
    or
    (b) scrap the damn thing!!!!!!

Its that simple, you can’t hack it any more muppet, the premiership is too much for you, you’ve got us there and made us scrap for survival ever since. Move over and let fresh impitus take us up the league and bring in fresh ideas/tactics/players.

We are going down and to be honest im more disappointed in Steve Morgan than anyone else.

His decision making has to be questionned. Have Wolves just introduced a new academy? Only reason I am asking is if we needed to delay the Stadium plans to fund the academy, couldnt this have been decided before any announcement in the first place? Whats changed?

Why are we concentrating on building facilities when we cant build a team? Whats more important???

Stick by the manager, thats the policy and one to be commended in many ways. But Morgan didnt appoint the manager in the first place! Seems he is all to willing to buy for a tenner, build facilities to make it a good investment but ignore the onfield antics.

Small flaw in the plan, we go down and the assets are not worth as much. OOOOOPS!

Morgan & co deserve to be relegated, the poor fans who are constantly fleeced don’t i.e £3.90 for a small bottle of Magners.

Would have thought instead of spending an extra £2M on a gastro pub & museum, it would have been better invested on the pitch.

The time for sacking has been and gone. I’ve said for years MM has reached his managerial limit and, unfortunately, isn’t equipped with the tools to take the club to the next level. However, sacking him now wouldn’t have many positives. A) There’s no-one out there who really fits the bill in terms of experience or know-how B) A new manager wouldn’t have any opportunity to sign players he would want C) Everyone assumes we would be better off but I’m not so sure. The majoirty of these players have grown and matured with MM, moving up the levels to reach the Premier League. It’s one thing sacking a manager when he’s lost the dressing room but that’s not the case here. Yes, whatever happens come May I think we shake hands and move on but I can’t see any benefit in sacking now (although I think if it happened two months ago things may have been different – fingers must be pointed at board as much as MM).

Everyone wants more of what we saw in the 1st half. If Frimpong’s injury is deservedly minor then I’m sure O’Hara can replace Henry and restore the momentum.

With Kightly and Jarvis flying down the wings and Fletcher prowling in the box, the team has huge potential to progress.

But I bow to the calls for a new defensive signing… it’s the back room performance that is under question this transfer window, not the gaffer’s.

Even if we were to make a change, money would need to be made available for a new manager and the indications are that we might make one signing? O’Neill might have turned things round but Sunderland did make 10 signings!

Mick has his faults (like every single manager), but you just cannot blame him for the player errors that cost us on Saturday. The mistake by Berra (who doesn’t make many) for the opening penalty, was Berra’s fault, not Mick’s. Jarvis’s terrible clearance in the passage of play before Keane’s winner was Jarvis’s fault, not Mick’s! Now you could argue that it’s Mick’s fault that he hasn’t coached them the old phrase “if in doubt, put it out”, but come on, every schoolboy is taught that!! Whilst on Holiday in Ireland last year I walked into a Pub, looked up, and saw that we were top of the league (for a few hours!) with 7 points from 3 games. Though I was ecstatic, I did think I had made the wrong decision! What followed over the following 5 months proved I was right all along! Many many more fans will follow this trend. Why? Because even if we stay up again this year, who can ‘hand on heart’ say we play entertaining football? Value for money? Who really enjoys sitting in the Cold watching such Drivel? The differance in Mijilas and Frimpong on Saturday was huge. O’hara is always going to have period out injured in a season he record says that. Edwards ok sqaud player, not good enough, Eget Johnson time will tell Championship player at first impression. Gudiarria not good enough gives the ball away to much. As for Hamill Mcarthy right to not play from start – Better as an impact player. When things were not going right the last two seasons he seemed to have opitions to change personal – not this season. The Club are shutting the Stable Door after the Horse has Bolted

The time to strengthen the team with quality was after our 7 pts from 3 games start. At that time, the fickle Football Media were lauding us as a decent team with Mid Table a given. Consequently, then was the right time and easiest time in the last 30 years, to attract better quality to our Club and push on

Any supporter who saw those 3 games knew different.

Instead, the spin and PR from the Club and the likes of Tim Nash on here via live chats, was that by adding Roger Johnson we had done enough and had a decent squad.

If you disagreed with the spin that came from the Club and local media (that we had a good enough squad)then you were pilliored as being negative and should head off to the Poorthorns etc

In the January window last year we were a disgrace. We missed countless loan signings, and survived by 4 minutes through other peoples failure. In the must win game against fellow strugglers Blackburn, we were 3-0 down in the 1st half.

Somehow we survived, and Steve Morgan said ‘Never Again’

To the team thrashed that day, we added Roger Johnson

Why should we realistically expect anything betetr this season? All that has happened is that the 3 Promoted sides have been better than we hoped.

The real culprits of mediocrity ..namely Moxey and Morgan will survive. They will escape blame for yet again missing the crucial timing for incremental investment in quality.

So we may sack Mick. It may be the right decision.

Whether we do or dont, those who make the real decisions are way to late again. The horse has bolted and we are galloping furiously towards relegation

I thought it rather ironic after the match on Saturday that the one player that McCarthy has backed consistantly over the last 5 years could lead to his sacking.

Why do players do that kind of thing? We’ve seen it in the past with Beckham and Rooney, so I suppose he’s in good company. Karl Henry is a 27year old experienced player who should know better.

I saw a comment made by Matt Le Tissier in which he said of the incident that it was “poor professionalism”. I can’t think of a more apt description.

A few weeks ago Bolton looked almost certain to be relegated. They’ve managed to improve their performances and position in the league without sacking the manager. If they can do it so can Wolves, especially if they play like they did in the first half against the Villa.

All this rubbish that Mick says ‘If someone wears the shirt, its up to the others to take it of them’. We will see. But we all know that once Henry serves his 3 match ban, he will be back in the starting 11.
Ideal replacement, with more ambition is Guediora. But he’s fallen out of favour with Mick. Jarvis was poor 2nd half. Should have swopped him for Hamill.. whose done nothing wrong. His delivery is probably better than Jarvis’. Frimpong will be missed, hopefully O’Hara will be back soon and showing the form of last season.
Great to see Kites back to his old self of a couple of seasons ago.

On possible replacements for MM, maybe Alan Curbishley. Forget the likes of Steve Bruce etc etc

Mick, continues to put blind faith in his key player but the truth is many of them have let him down at important times this season- just look at Henry, doyle, johnson, berra and hunt.

His biggest fault is he hasnt added enough quality to the squad and we dont have a least 2 players in direct competition for each position.
When Henry got sent off we should have had a quality defensive midfielder on the bench to come on to cover but we didnt.

The squad isnt good enough. football isnt rocket science and you dont need coaching badges to understand it . You have to do three things to win games.
    1) score goals – we only scored 2 when we have enough chances to score 5 in the first half.
    2) defend well- we dont and we cant concentrate for 90 mins
    3) Keep good possession- we didnt in the second half and villa took over the game.

Add silly mistakes and a sending off and you can see why we lost this game and keep losing games.

All the pro mick supporters please tell me this.
We have now lost 6 home games now and only won 3 all season. where are the home wins going to come from after the brum and Villa home defeats?

The pressure is going to mount on the team at every home. A good win against liverpool changes it but another sloppy defeat and I think Mick’s reign should be called to end.

If this is true at least it will save me the worry of working out what to cut back on in order to but two season tickets for next year. After being a loyal fan for over 35 years, I have never felt as despondent as I do today. While it is not nice for anybody to loose their job, if they are not producing the goods, as in Micks case he isn’t, how can they justify being kept in employment, I know I would have been sacked long ago if my performance record was anywhere near like muppets, but to be honest my employers would not have tolerated me swearing and abusing the public like muppet did around the time of the Swansea game. If he eventually does go surely managers would be queuing up for the job, as they would have no pressure on them to achieve anything. Why do I support the only team that is incapable of listening to the fans, who ultimately are the basis of any club, and are too cowardly to make decisions. Just praying that this article is a windup and that things are happening behind the scenes, but think that is more like wishful thinking on my part.

Remember when McCarthy arrived at the club he said, and I quote “I am not Merlin”. I now dispute that to a degree. He may not, in fact be Merlin, but he is a Merlin type. He has proved that he is a first class illusionist by giving everyone the impression he could transform a Championship team into a Premiership team with a few leprechauns as his helpers. He has also put blindfolds on Morgan and Moxey, mesmerised them with a load of spiel making them believe that he was in fact Merlin and what is more
    THEY STILL THINK HE IS!!!!!

It’s because he gets caught out of position so much, if you count the number of fouls he gets away with you could probably double the number.

All they interested in is building new stadium and building Compton. They know that they make more money from that. And yet again we just weren’t good enough and made mistakes and marked poorly on the edge of the box. What happened to marking and closing down players. Even Phil Neville scored against us last season because he had so much time!
Whilst we played very well first half we didn’t take our chances! Fletcher is outstanding but what about some help for him?
It all boils down to quality and there isn’t enough at Molineux. Once Frimpong went off we were scuppered. There are no options to maintain quality particularly with O’Hara still injured.
There are NOT enough premier league players at Molineux – Plain and simple and until there are we will always be scrapping, right until it goes wrong like blues last season!
If Mick McCarthy things him putting someone on a pitch makes them a premier league player he is deluded. It isn’t all about effort, cream rises to the top and unfortunately the rest sinks below.
Regardless of who is manager the answer is crystally clear:

At some stage soon the Management will have to accept that their long term team strategy hasn’t worked and no real progress has been made on the playing side since Steve Morgan took over, except the value of the estate. When he came we were in the Championship and it looks likely that next season we will be back there. When he came we had all sorts of promises made about building Wolves into a formidable team obviously these were empty promises and now we are faced with the reality. When we were in the lower divisions at least we were capable of winning games but since we have been in the top flight we have seen very few victories. All managers need support and a realistic budget to work with and MM is no different.Perhaps Glenn Hoddle may have been successful if he was given the money that he wanted to build a winning team.It really is time to do something positive because sitting on hands will further infuriate the supporters and please lets have some honesty.

2 wins in 20 games is a record not many Chairman of the 92 Football League clubs would accept.
One could argue that Messrs Morgan & Moxey have shown great loyalty, there again MM fits their blue print of not wanting to sign any proven Premiership players because they don’t want to pay the money.
Lack of ambition is therefore shared by the 3 of them.

Well just about every comment that I have read here calls for the managers head and yes although I do not always agree with his tactics, I do not believe anyone could get any more out of the players we have and we cannot afford the type of players that produce quality finishes week in week out. For me it has been some really terrible mistakes by the defence in our team this season that has let us down, we have come back from being behind more times than any other team in the prem, we have scored in most of games, In recent weeks we have seen a great improvement in our side players back from injury like kights and Edwards along with Frimpong joining from arsenal, I know things are not good right now (understatement) but the villa game gave an indication of what i was thinking a few games back from injury and kights will be firing, Frimpong getting used to playing with the side, Jarvo back on song and out of the darkness will cometh the light. So stop moaning about something that’s just not going to happen and get behind our side as magical things could happen.

Remember, for every O’Neal at Sunderland, their is a Shearer at Newcastle, who tried it with the same sort of time scale, and look how that worked out. Rightly or wrongly, and there are strong arguments for both, you need to stick with Mick till at least the end of the season.

    The table doesn’t lie.

2 Wins in 20 just doesn’t cut it.

If you are thinking about the league and therefore are resting 10 players for the match against Villa. Why would you risk playing Fletcher for 30+ minutes?

If the FA cup means something, put out a decent side and lets get a win (remember those do you).

Whilst these forums can get a little heated and people on both sides of the fence can be a little over passionate of their point of view. This is the premier league, with premier teams and premier clubs.

Whilst McCarthy is always a favourite amongst the tv pundits for his straight talking. His stats are poor and are not good enough for the resources on offer or to move us (slowly) up towards mid table.

Steve Morgan is right to invest in Molineux however, if anyone believes the further development of Compton is to do with the catagory of Academy we have, they are quite mistaken. It has only ever been about building houses on green belt and getting round planning permission by using the Wolves Academy as cover, as the council would always back that type of development.

Money doesn’t grow on trees, but even with our wage structure, we should be performing better and more consistently.

Why is it Alex Ferguson always changes his backroom staff every 2 -3 years? New ideas, and fresh impetus perhaps. What do we do?

Why is everybody getting so wound up about the relegation battle.

Mr Morgan paid the asking price for the club (£10) and it belongs to him. Those supporters shouting for Mr Morgan to spend some of his money are way out of line. It is his money and nobody else can tell him what to do with it.

The club was purchased as a business proposition, with the aim of making profit for Mr Morgan. It has worked well so far and has made a net profit of approx £40M in the last 4-5 years. However, the biggest tranche of profits will soon arrive from the building work, both at the academy and the 55 luxury homes that now have building permission.

Mr Morgan has also invested in the club infrastructure and the value of the club to a new buyer must now be close to £100M, not bad for a £10 investment!

Finally, the manager has been backed with all the financial resources that he has asked for. There are some spreading a rumour that he has had to manage without financial resources, but Wolves are the 6th largest Premiership spender over the last 3 years. Cynics may ask why Wolves are not fighting for the 6th place in the league?

Finally.the manager has a clause in his contract that would mean a very large payment being made if he is dismissed. Mr Morgan is not inclined to pay that money out, and the Championship is not a bad financial proposition for 1-2 years, with generous parachute payments and the low wage bill combining to ensure financial success.

Club supporters must realise that they are just paying customers and they have no say in how the club is run.

I have a plan that could save Wolves season:

I think some people are looking at this all wrong, i’ll explain.

We need a manager in with some Premiership nouse, agreed?? Unfortunately, 0′neil, Hodgson and Hughes have been snapped up, leaving us with the dilemma of whether or not we should stick with Mick or, as many of you appear to want, take a chance on someone like Houghton, Keane, Warnock etc, all of which are not really that Premiership head we really would like to see. So….before I lose you,

Get Rafael Benitez in on a tempary basis until the end of the season.

This is what Liverpool did with Dalglish when it wasn’t working with Roy Hodgson and Chelsea with Grant when Mourinho was sacked.

Pay him well until the end of the season and give him a bonus and first refusal on the full-time position if he keeps us up. If he doesn’t want to stay, then fine, we can start re-looking, who knows who could be on the market by then.

If he can’t keep us up, again, we can kiss him goodbye, but at least then we can say we tried and inturn, bought some time to get the right candidate to get us back up, rather than a knee-jerk decision at getting someone in now on a 3 year contract.

Benitez is not working as we speak, he lives in England, Morgan the Scouser would love him, he would not require a transfer and £100,000 a week.

Its what we need lads, it wouldn’t break the bank or committ Benitez to anything long term.

Got to be an option don’t ya think??

tom must be a smallthorne man to say we have an awful team:
    Hennessey – decent
Johnson – are you kidding me?
    Foley – div 1 player
    Milijas – terrible
    O’Hara – talented yet inconsistent
Doyle – been out of form all season (2 seasons?)
    Fletcher – top 10 goalscorer
Jarvis – talented on his day but inconsistent and poor end product
Kightly – haven’t seen much of him recently so will reserve judgement
Ward – well you missed him off and he’s come in for a lot of criticism but, let’s face it, this Championship left back has been Wolves’ best player this season. By a mile.

And that’s the first 11. The players waiting in the wings would be lucky to warm the bench in most Championship teams.

It is mccarthys fault we lost on saturday. We are down to 10 men due to henry kicking out stupidly and he shud never play for wolves again! When he brought stearman on towards the end he practically invited villa to come at us instead of bringing another striker on and having a go in a derby game at home and could have won. His tactics are are too negative and his substitutions are baffling he knows we need another striker to help take the pressure of fletcher yet he sticks with doyle who looks not interested every time he plays. If we don’t get at least 6 points out of liverpool,QPR and WBA then he has got to go!

Do we have a better squad than two or three years ago…yes we do..are we financially better off..yes we are..the “problem” is we are in one of the top three leagues IN THE WORLD..and our team is still learning and growing..that means theyre still making mistakes..sadly too many..and they are all too often crucial ones..we all know the mantra.. “if you makes mistakes in the Prem you get punished”..thats because we re in a quality league..we re not quite up to it yet…it takes time people…and yes we DID play well against..MMs preferred team with jarvo n kights..lovely goal from him..and for the sake of balance it was KARL HENRY who lofted a cute ball to Frimpong for him to release Kights..and yes he was petulant and stupid.. Just like gazza and beckham before him and balotelli yesterday..balotelli stayed on the pitch and scored the winner tho..fine margins folks..its “mick the muppet” of course who spotted and bought fletcher..and jarvis…and kights..all of whom have played at international level..and wardy..and foley..who i believe has been voted player of the year..BY SUPPORTERS.. Oh..and Frimpong..who was widely praised on sat..how is it that Mick managed to notice these players talent when he s a “muppet”?????the team and the manager need our support not criticism.. i only wish i could afford to be able to to support my team in person like many of you do week in week out…..

Johnson lived up to the bluenose hype (ie useless without Dann) and two decent games in 6 months doesn’t make a summer.

Fans must be realistic enough to know that our team are not mature as an EPL outfit as yet as we are still finding our feet in that division. More than 35 players have been bought and again I repeat only a handful can NOW COPE while others are either not at this level or simply need time to adjust. But as we all know in the EPL time is limited for a player to adapt himself. That’s why teams like Wolves will take time to get the stability barring a drop to the Championship. Then there is the stupid question why our Board has chosen to improve the facilities at the stadium and the training ground which are of paramount importance to the betterment of the club. Mind you I am not against strengthening of the team. As all fans know good players are scarce and most of the time you get ordinary players for unbelievable fees and wages. Fans must choose between a well run club or a spending spree leading to the road of Portsmouth and other clubs who are in desperate plights. And remember we have been there in the doldrums and nearly tasted the fate :”Dead as a Dodo”. I prefer relegation and the chance to come back rather than the dreadful fate mentioned above. And what is your view on players like Torres and Carroll at an astronomic sums and wages and could not deliver. Do you want Wolves to go that way? Certainly not.

‘Jonah’-Dave Jones was last seen on Skysports all wrapped up, doing the gantry report, on I think West Haaaaam vs Forest; Just like Warnock was at Molineux, managers these days rapidly become expert football pundits, even though they are sacked for not being any good at coaching/motivating/buying players of talent etc ( Mick will be perfectly suited then!); I really don’t think DJ would do a good job or Ince or Bull-S**t or Fergie’s Son, or Wazzock, or Curb-ur-enthusiasm, maybe his brother who is a roadie might bring some excitement to the club! Who would I chose, I know it’s hypothetical as Muppet is concreted in at Molineux, but Rafael Benitez is the obvious candidate; But would he, you ask? Yes,without a doubt, is my information; He knows Morgan well and although they did not get on at Anfield, Rafa would not take that as a reason not to get back into football in the Prem; He would consider a relatively small salary bulked up by high bonuses for position in league, wins etc; RB has great contacts in the Spanish market, where even their 4th tier players have 4 times the skill of Henry and Co, if he could get some of that talent over here and they settle, a million pound buy could easily become a £10m player, given a run in a progressing side; Why might this not happen? Mr Morgan and his pig-head along with his no-risk attitude; So REAL WWFC fans, send Rafael Benitez messages that will convince him and his people to push for the job of the once great Wolverhampton Wanderers AFC; ps Mick McCarthy out NOW *100m !!!!!!!!!

    122. Steve Hill: I read your post after having posted mine. You are quite right to opine all of the points you raised which most fans don’t see. Instead they are either to opt for a spending spree just for the sake of buying or to lead the team to bankruptcy. Mr. Morgan the other day has pointed that running a team is like all businesses and should have a good balanced-sheet. Remember our team were using Portakabins at their… training ground!!! Not so long ago the outcry of these same fans were pinpointing of the difficulties of our team to entice players our way. That is to say they were of the just opinion to have a PROPER AND SOUND PLACE to offer training facilities to players. So the equation is to have a fine balance between developing infrastructures at the club and spending on players and wages. Of course buying players is a lottery while improving the facilities of the club and training ground/academy IS NOT. They will be for the betterment of the club forever. Sir Jack Hayward our benefactor came to our rescue and provided his own money to uplift a stadium in decay and now S.Morgan is doing all he can to more improvements.Since 1955 of the golden era of Wolves I support this club from Mauritius and from 1974 I am living in Paris and I had only the privilege of being at Molineux twice. But since then we have actually played decent football.
Why get rid of him now we have started playing decent stuff?? Makes no sense, and in at the end January when we cant get any more players in!
Stick with MM until the end of the season, the players obviously love him, and were would we be without him!!
Look at the squad we have a few premiership players, but thats not down to him he doesnt control what money we can spend.

Hennessey – Reared by MM,TC,PM & Bobby Mimms.
If it wasnt for those, who knows..would he have been given the chance and encouragment at molineux?

Foley – MM – Decent player would get in 4/5 premier teams

Johnson – Great start – Dodgy patch – Now picking it back up again and starting to look a decent CB

Berra – Fair enough has his faults, but with the money avaliable who would you buy!? For the money we paid hes a steal.

Ward – Again, made a scape goat thru him being so willing and determind! Makes no sense, Now after he is given time becoming a good left back

Jarvis – Bargain, sought out by MM and the team yet people complain! Would get in most bottom half premier teams

Kights – Bargain, I no him fairly well…He will be back to himself soon believe me

Fletcher – Would get in 80% of the teams in this league

Ohara – Great 1st season, has his own personal issues as we now about his kid, cut him some slack

A relegation team in the making! Doyle I have never rated, he might work hard, run here run there but he is ultimately paid to stick the ball in the back of the net. He runs to the left he runs to the right but lets remember Bully, he scores with his left foot and he scores with his right and when he plays the albion he’ll score …….. !

Moxey has NO experience of football other than his time with us and Stoke.
He is NOT a football man and is in our game because it is a job.

Yes Mick we do have championship players masquerading as premiership players, we do have players (mainly the back four) who cannot pass the ball to their own team mates, a mid-field who are happier passing back than forward and apart from Fletcher an inactive forward line,
so what influenced you to purchase these players in the first place they must have been good in some part of their career or you wouldn;t have bought them in the first place or have you knocked all their ability out of them with the same old mantra we get from you. Mick just get a grip and Steve Morgan you’ve showed your true colours this week,

This is not Mick’s fault give him some decent money to spend so we can atleast stand a chance of stopping up. We were promised at the end of last season a Goalkeeper, 2Centre halves, a Left backa Midfielder and a striker. We get a goalkeeper a defender and a midfielder. Because Morgan and Moxey dont want to spend anymore money Mick is made to come out and say he thinks his team for the prem is good enough. What a waste of money that new stand is gona be, talking to the bloke nxt to me at sats game its like the F.A.Cup maybe in 5/10yrs time lets think about it but for now put money in the team and be a consistant prem team. Asking for someone to be sacked is admittedly not nice, however in another statement to the Express and Star, MM says he would not have done anything differently! Well even with the benefit of hindsight he would still have got it wrong then, talk about not learning from your mistakes! With the exception of a handful of signings alot of those MM made were poor, and the blame for that lies firmly at MM’s door, after all Moxey doesn’t just sign someone and say to MM here’s another player for you. He signs players MM has indicated he wants, thus showing that MM’s judgement is poor most of the time. Who’s company built the new stand? It wasn’t Morgans by any chance was it? Who in their right mind builds a stadium (well new bits in this case) to the detriment of the team? What is the point of a shinny new stadium when your plying your trade in the lower leagues? Wolves due to their history etc etc, should be an almost permanent fixture in the premier league, like your Evertons and Arsenals. Its not the fans who are the numpties but those in charge who can’t see past their own noses (and wallets).
There is little over a week left in this transfer window, okay we all know that players are over hyped and over priced at this time of the season, but what would be the greater tragedy, relegation or a dent in the bank balance. If you stay up then that dent could be filled out with the premier leagues money, do nothing, and not only your status and premiership money will be forfeited, but also your prospects of coming straight back up. Because (decent) players generally don’t want to come to a non premiership team, and those that we do manage to sign end up on long term contracts and are harder to get rid off if we do go back up (Keogh is a good example). So either get rid of MM and hope we can get a Martin O’Neil type who (without spending a penny) has inspired Sunderland into the top 10, or splash the cash on Quality (be it loans like Robbie Kean, or permanent transfers) while there is still time. If Morgan and co insist on staying with MM, then at least get someone like Ray Wilkins in to assist him (whether MM likes it or not). If it still goes pear shaped then the three M’s would not be accused of not trying, but as things stand at the moment, thats exacly whats going to happen, and we the Fans will never forgive them.

I watched the Wolves on tv twice last week and I’ve heard those muppet so called sports reporters on Radio WM a hundred times. Just an observation from across the Black Country. Against Blues you looked awful. But on Saturday for twenty minutes I don’t think any team in the Premiership would have matched you! I spoke to a Villa fan and he said the only reason they won was Robbie Keane, no other reason. Perhaps getting rid of Mick would be the answer, but surely you are starting to play football. Obviously I don’t watch all your games, but isn’t this a bit of a short term fix if it doesn’t work. Get Poxey to buy some quality, get rid of Henry and buy someone to play alongside Fletcher. Sounds easy. Don’t forget the Albion have been on the manager merry go round too and it’s hard to find a cure if you keep changing the man at the helm! Just my thoughts!

New tactic’s that the players have to get used to. So no guarantee that the manager can implement his way of playing in time to save us anyway.

    169.so mcarthy gets the sack.

    now the problems really start.

    1.breach of contract,/compensation of £million?

2.as many have said, anyone would be better than mcarthy, but.

3.who would come in , with only a few days left before the window shuts, and keep wwfc in the premier?

    1. curbishley? won promotion to the premier then got relegated/won promotion to the premier and avoided relegation by the skin of thier teeth, remind of you of anyone? although finished 7th 03/04 then 11 and 13th 05/06. won nothing. wants the england job.

    2. rafa benitez? won league and ueafa cup with valencia but fell out with director of finance. resigned in 04. at liverpool won champions league, the f.a.cup, but not the one thing they craved the premier title 20 years and counting. then the 10/11 season he fell out with the owners over transfer funds. wih morgan in charge, no chance.

3.niel warnock. average championship manager, sacked by huddersfield, palace, and now qpr.

4.peter ried.good player but failed at sunderland/leeds/plymouth/thailand. complained he was’nt given enough time and money.

5.sean o driscoll, w-ton born but average player spent most of his career at bournmouth, became manager won promotion 0/3 through playoffs, left to become donny manager, mid table safety, then sacked in sept 2011, now part of coaching staff at forest.

6.steve eyre/sven goran erikson/graham westley/phil brown/mick wadsworth/nigel pearson/steve bruce, can any of them win trophies and consistently finish top 5 in the premier and be trusted by morgan with millions?? no, but someones got to manage wwfc so who, i did’nt mention souness or wilkins as they would demand millions in salary and even more in transfer funds.

morgan will sell wwfc when the atadium is finished. so he does’nt really care which league we are in as land prices always go up.

only then we might see new owners willing to buy new players for whoever is the manager.

Streako, since we are pals now…
Here are my thoughts on the many possible managers listed by posters above

Benitez – probably out of our league, likes to play with little width and players out of their natural position (always popular on here). Don’t think he is the man for a relegation fight. Not that I think we could get him anyway Valencia, Liverpool, Inter, Wolves mmm….

Keane – absolute failure as a manger so far

Ince – promising start at the mighty Macclesfield, but disaster at Blackburn. Did think he might be OK when Mick was appointed but not now

Keegan – love the guy, he’s a motivator but we have a well motivated squad now. No idea why anyone thinks he would want the Wolves job

Wilkins – very likeable, no track record as a top man, might bring on the players in the long run. Suspect he’s nicely settled and doesn’t need the money or the hassle.

Warnock – I’ll support Wolves till the day I die, but it would be very hard with him in charge

Curbishley – would like him but think he would have a job by now if he wanted one. Did a great job at Charlton who must rue the day they sacked him

Strachan – well I actually predicted him in November, but it was mostly to try to get people behind Mick. I think he would work to a budget, so Moxey might like him.

Bruce – would hardly set the pulse racing (or beating)!

The people start listing managers who are in work as they seriously think for example that Paul Lambert might leave Norwich to come to Wolves. Norwich are as big a club as Wolves – albeit with a lot less history (I know many will disagree but it’s true). Plus Jez would have to pay compensation!!!

So then we are looking at the likes of Lee Clark. He might be good, but who really knows?

Oh and I forgot Sven – if we want to pay £2M+ a year for nothing he is our man!

Wish I knew what’s wrong – so many possible reasons in the posts here, but hard to be clear.
I’m starting to be convinced that it’s not all down to MM, and he’s totally hamstrung by the wage cap, money savings etc.
Can Morgan really take profits from the club and put them into the building business though? Seems crazy if he can. Would it even be legal?
Even with the wage cap, I’d like to see willingness to bring in at least one or two high profile players who could make an impact – if only on loan.
But I’ve seen an article [on epltalk] saying MM ‘doesn’t want to work with any big time Charlies’ i.e the better players from bigger clubs – can that be right?
I take the point anyway that the best managers have been snapped up now. I think the points about bringing in better coaches may be right though.

“…performances have been very good. We have played very well in recent weeks and I cannot question the perfomances at all”.

Or for that matter, the fact that we have failed to keep a clean sheet in EVERY SINGLE LEAGUE MATCH SINCE AUGUST. Let’s just take a look at the league stats since then…

Nothing to question there Mick? Really?

    GEM NUMBER 2:
“I would not have done anything differently against Chelsea and Tottenham and I could not have done anything to make us any better”.

Well finally Mick, something we can all agree on. I really do believe that YOU couldn’t have done anything, because you have demonstrated time and time again this season that it is beyond you. On that basis, is it not time for you to consider doing the decent thing?

Anyway, here’s one little idea for you Mick, it’s quite a simple thing that quite a few people on these boards have picked up on (probably because we do it, on avarage, at least three times in every league game). For the love of God, tell the players to STOP kicking the ball back to Hennessey, straight from the kick off, EVERY SINGLE TIME. It may have escaped your notice, but we lose possession every single time. And I’m sure I’m not the only fan whose heart sinks at the laughable predictability of it all.

    Oh hang on though…

    GEM NUMBER 3:
“I don’t listen to… what fans are saying”.

Well maybe you should Mick. Because by your own admission on Monday, you are all out of ideas.

    Memo to Mr Morgan…………..

1 Have you left it too late to save Wolves from relegation ?
‘ Almost certain now that Wolves will be relegated to the Championship with their Premiership Ground improvements’

2 What can be done between now and the end of the season ?

‘ You must release McCarthy now, and look carefully for a top manager to clean the place up and put some new life and confidence in a very wounded collection of players.

3 What would the new Managers critical objectives be ?

‘ The first objective will be for him to retain the little talent we have before they elect to leave or are snapped up by other clubs.
We have only three players we must keep for next season, Hennersey, Jarvis & Fletcher Trying to keep them at a Championship style Wolves next season will be a hell of a task.

    4 What can i do now /

‘recruit a top Manager , offer and pay well over the odds, we need the best available.

‘Do not buy any further players in the final few days of the transfer window, be prepared to spend upwards of 50million to recruit some quality into the team. If you can’t afford that amount seek out a partner to asist financially.

‘We must sell several players that have contributed very little to Wolves plight this season…
    1 Kevin Doyle
    2.Ebanks-blake

    And release the following….
    Hunt
    Johnson
    Foley
    Craddock

In conclusion, you will be taking a hell of a loss on your investment in Wolves, and because of this , wonder if you yourself will be around next season. If you thought this season was difficult… wait till next year!!!

Would go completely with Sir Lupi. Get Benitez in until the end of the season. Why install a new manager with a three year contract when there is no decent premiership candidate around.

It benefits Benitez. Keeps him in the game but doesn’t commit him if a bigger job in Europe comes along.

In some ways you are right about not being a WWFC fanatic, I’m more Arsenal/Celtic/Milan; But that doesn’t stop me caring about the shame the soccer club, with my town’s name in it, is bringing scorn and ridicule onto the place; Well I say ‘my town’, not totally accurate as my town is of course WEDNESFIELD,not just the part the council deems to name it as these days, but the historic boundaries, 10 square miles of ‘God’s Country’ from Springfield Rd in the west,the Willenhall road,Fibbersley,New Invention,most of Essington,Westcroft,Underhill,The Scotlands, Old/Fallings Park, Park Lane and back to Springfield; That is why my concern is so acute in the scandal of the 3M’s dragging the name of Wolverhampton and thereby ‘Greater Wednesfield’ through the mud;

i read through about 50 posts today and share the views of 74,77,76,83,90.
I can see clearly now why the board wont sack Mick and why he is confident in staying on no matter what happens.

Mick, Moxley and Morgan share the same limited ambition for the club and Mick is happy to work within whatever budget he is given, which will never improve squad to the level needed to seriously compete in this league.

We will never seriously attract an experience premiership manager with a good track record because of our lack of ambition.

    Think about it??
We had a chance to get allardyce a year ago but didnt take it??
But could you see wolves signing Kevin Nolan on a 3 yrs contract on 50k plus per week? No but West ham in the Championship have under Allardyce. THATS AMBITION.

I also think many wolves fans lack ambition and this is a big problem. They seem happy to accept the quality of players and football we are dished up each week and the poor results.

Many are in denial, and ignore the fact that teams like swansea, norwich, and WBA play superior football and are getting results having spent significantly less than we have.

I can see one issue here that no one seems ever to look at “TAXI FOR TERRY” please. All manager changes in recent years Jones,Hoddle, McCarthey the list is long and distinguished but who is still there Mr’O'Conner and other backroom, tactics never change and we never step up to the challange. If we are serious support Mick and bring in a January transfer scoop RAY WILKINS drive ambition and experience at the top level to mould this fledging team together.

To all those who want Mick Sacked- Such short memories you have. Who else got us here? Hoddle? Taylor? McGhee? Even Jones could only do it through playoffs and for 1 miserable season only (first home game against Charlton, Visits to Arsenal, Tottenham Blackburn et al.)

Who would we replace him with?

Benitez- Do me a favour? Only won things with other managers teams (Houllier) awful in transfer market. Could he work under Morgan budget, NO!!!

R Keane- Great track record in the transfer market and on the pitch at Ipswich and Sunderland……………….NOT!!!

Speaking of Sunderland, best man for the job has already gone there.

Therefore, lets stop wingeing, get behind the team, and the manager as we have a far better chance of staying up with support than without it and remember where we were when Mick took over!!

I have watched them for over 40 years and if you knew your LOCAL club, you would know their first strip was that of the Rossinari (AC MILANO); A true fan I be, I lived in Milan for 10+ years;for family reasons, Celtic are our heritage and Arsenal I support as they were great in my teens (1930′s); As for WWFC, I reckon over the last 50+ years, I have been to 200+ away games and lot’s more at Molineux; You don’t have to be a rabid,blinkered idiot to show support, just what sates your need; I was at the two Fairs Cup ties vs Spurs, the 1980 League Cup, the Sherpa Van vs Burnley and the Honved games, so I have every right to have an opinion on today’s tragedy unfolding at the club;

you reel off other old managers records and ignore the appalling premiership record one of the current manager whom you support????
Why not compare him with other managers around and above us and dont forget to take in account
the extensive funds he has had to spend and his performance in the transfer market.

Are you seriously trying to talk about Benitez on the same page as Mccarthy. Do me a favour.

for the record I dont have a short memory and remember john Barnwell, Graham turner, and DJ stints with more fondness than MM mainly because of the style of football .

football management isnt about the past. What you did 5 years ago is irrelevant. You are judged on what you do now.

I do not support protest’s as we go to the ground to support any player in gold and black weather we think they should play or not..the only way they will listen to us is to boycott the extra’s such as programmes, drinks burgers and pies etc.. wolves make a big profit out of these … (they already have our season ticket money) so staying away does not affect them.. hit them in the pocket do not buy beer etc then they will have to react

It used to Snow every xmas day and every Summer was red hot… To read how poorly this club is run people I can see people have very selective memories.
Sir Jack.. Heart ruled his head (£70m of his personal money spent) which led to his famous no more Golden Tit remark = 1 season in the prem with little money invested in the taem that year.
Steve Morgan( Liverpool Fan) .. Head rules= 3rd year in the prem with the club running at a profit.
I agree performances are poor and either a change of manager or coaching staff are needed but since Morgan took over we have a 3 years in the prem,1 Championship Title & 1 Playoff since taking over a threadbare squad. Sir Jack put the club up for sale in 2003 and it was nearly 4 years before he got a buyer so dont think there is an long line of Billionares waiting to buy us.
