Steven Fletcher happy to line up at Olympics
Monday 23rd January 2012, 10:16AM GMT.
Wolves hot-shot Steven Fletcher today put himself forward for the Olympics – risking Scotland’s wrath.
The £7m club record signing has scored nine Premier League goals this season, a tally only bettered by one Briton – Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, who has 13. Fletcher has netted 19 in 46 Premier League games for Wolves.
The Football Associations of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are opposed to their players representing Britain because they fear a British team could compromise their individual status within the home nations.
Scottish FA chief executive Stewart Regan has said that any Scottish player who makes himself available for Team GB “might have to deal with the backlash” of Scotland fans while an SFA spokesman previously said any Scot playing in London 2012 would be “committing an act of treachery”.
Fletcher’s agent Scott Fisher said his client would be delighted to be part of Stuart Pearce’s squad in 2012.
“Steven says he’d absolutely love to play for Team GB,” said Fisher. “Why wouldn’t a footballer want to take such a chance?
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We’ve had this discussion. Steven would like to play if fortunate enough to be selected.”

What a strange two weeks it has been since our last game. I haven’t looked over my neighbour’s fence with as much interest since Pamela Anderson moved in next door and regularly used her trampoline, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.
