Robbie Keane haunts Molineux – Wolves 2 Aston Villa 3

Saturday 21st January 2012, 5:03PM GMT.

Wolves old boy Robbie Keane came back to haunt his former club as he scored a spectacular late winner to give Aston Villa the bragging rights in a five-goal Midlands derby thriller at Molineux, writes Timothy Abraham.

Michael Kightly scored first goal since March 2009 and his first in the Premier League with a smart finish to equalise Darren Bent’s opener from the penalty spot after Christophe Berra had fouled the Villa striker.

Dave Edwards put Wolves ahead before the break in what was a pulsating first half of football when he headed home but Keane took advantage of Matt Jarvis poor clearance early in the second half to finish from the edge of the box to level matters.

Wolves were reduced to 10 men for the final 15 minutes when Karl Henry was sent off for a needless backheel on Marc Albrighton and Villa made the extra man count as Keane scored a superb long-range goal to leave the home side without a win in 10 games.

Mick McCarthy named the same starting line-up which drew 1-1 with Tottenham last weekend as Edwards was passed fit having overcome a groin injury.

Villa handed Keane his first start as Alex McLeish made two changes from the side which drew 1-1 with Everton as in-form Stephen Ireland missed out with a hamstring injury.

Stephen Warnock was dropped to the bench after a recent dip in performances as Ciaran Clark switched to left-back while Gary Gardner came in to make his first start.

Villa who took the lead in the 11th minute though when Bent nipped in front of Berra and the Wolves man chopped down the striker as he attempted to clear the ball and referee Michael Oliver pointed straight to the spot.

Bent dusted himself down and calmly sent Wayne Hennessey the wrong way with a low side-footed shot into the bottom-right corner of the net.

McCarthy’s men were denied what appeared an obvious penalty shortly afterwards when James Collins clipped the lively Edwards inside the area but this time Oliver waved away the appeals.

The frantic start to the match showed no sign of abating and Wolves got themselves back on level terms in the 21st minute after a superb bit of skill from Emmanuel Frimpong, who later went off on a stretcher with a head injury, when he flicked the ball over his head to escape two Villa players.

The on-loan Arsenal man played in Kightly and the winger cut inside and curled a low shot from just inside the penalty area past Shay Given into the corner of the net.

Wolves had three chances to take the lead six minutes later as Given saved Steven Fletcher’s header from a corner and Albrighton cleared Henry’s shot off the line before Edwards shot straight at Given from a good position after he was picked out by Jarvis.

However, the home side’s pressure paid off in the 31st minute when Kightly’s corner was met by Roger Johnson and his goal-bound header was deftly flicked past Given by Edwards.

Wolves could only defend the lead for six second-half minutes as Keane equalised for Villa against his former club.

Jarvis’ high clearance seemed to hold up in the wind and fell to Clark and he cushioned the ball into the path of Keane who drilled a low shot which squirmed through the hands of the diving Hennessey.

The match became a scrappy affair compared to the high-temp free-flowing football of the first half and it culminated in the sending off of Henry who responded to an overly enthusiastic tackle by Albrighton by needlessly backheeling the youngster in the chest.

And Villa took advantage of the extra player as Keane lashed home a brilliant winner in the 85th minute with a stunning 25-yard striker after Wolves failed to clear their lines although the striker again refused to celebrate for the second time.

    What a game of 2 halves…
First off I hope Frimpong is ok and it’s not as serious as it looked!
Berra you’ve been doing this all season, you were always going to give away a penalty.
Henry….! Again public enemy number one! What on earth were you thinking!! Done yourself no favours.
First half was excellent until it all went south in the second half. You cannot blame MM for todays defeat! The incidents and some players were at fault but I saved the best till last…….
Robbie Keen!!! How dare you exploit our hospitality by scoring twice and giving them the 3 points and with the potential of sending us down!!!!! How could you? We are now in the reli spots because of you! I saw your little smirks when you scored. There is plenty I want to say about him but E&S won’t post my post. If it wasn’t for him we would have won 2 -1 I hope you are happy with yourself! As far as I’m concerned you are no longer welcome at Molinuex! Judas!!!!!

The difference between the two teams today?………….ambition!!

One club who will pay the money to buy (or loan) quality and one club who still believe it is possible to stay in the Premier League on a shoestring.

Okay, the injury to Frimpong was unfortunate, but the sending off of Henry was idiotic and fully deserved, but Robbie Keane was the difference today.

Will the stance of the manager and board change now we are in the relegation zone, only 3 points off the bottom and above a Wigan side who are truly awful (so what does that make us)?…………..I some how doubt it.

    Championship here we come!!

First off before you all start…. none of this today was Mick’s fault. After the laughable defeat on Wednesday he was bound to be under fire, but he fielded a fantastic squad who came out fighting today. Shame we gave away that silly penalty but who cares we came back stronger.

Then what happened in the second half???? Let’s hope Frimpng – who was wonderful – is okay.

Karl Henry out for 3 games, a moment of stupidity has lost us what? A frankly average mid-field, can’t say I’m too bothered by it.

Now let’s start on what’s lost this game for us…. TRAITOR Keane…. how could he do this to us?? After all the support and encouragement we gave given him. Didn’t make the game today and on radio, Matt Murray imploring fans to give him a warm welcome. Welll…. LOL to that. Good on the guys who booed him, wish I had been there to join them. If he had signed for Villa (not on a loan spell from a ridiculous Yank team) I could understand his “Keane”ness to score but…. HE’S ON LOAN…. what difference does it make to him if he doesn’t score. NONE. And score he does…. to potentially send his old club down. Shame on him. As far as I am concernedd he is not welcome ever again at Molineux.

As for the rest… Jarvis was good, Johnson seems to have found his feet and as ever, Wayne was strong – we just couldn’t keep up against the traitor and his lot with 10 men.

No we’re in relegation… let’s see what it brings us now. Can’t quite say I’m a numpty just yet but I’m getting there…….

    Sort it out lads, please.

    3 wins in 24 games.
No win in the last 11.
One of the worst defenses in the league.
    Tactically clueless.
Lost to both blues and villa within 4 days.

Thanks to the utter stupidity of Karl Henry, (who does he think he is:Pepe?) we will not have to suffer him over the next three games. Hopefully he will pay even more heavily in McCarthy’s eyes.

I hope he never plays for Wolves again.

Thanks too to the coaching staff, who haven’t taught Matt Jarvis, nor any of the other defenders how to make a cool and concise clearance.

These two (three) basic failures cost us dearly today and McCarthy will harp on again about misfortune.

Right I am saying this clear and simple. Mick is not to blame for this defeat. He set the team up right and they were playing amazing for 50 minutes.

What cost us that game was Berra on 10 mins daudling on the ball – criminal in the Premier League. He been there long enough and should not be making that mistake.

Karl Henry is a disgrace. Whether or not Albrighton made a meal of it or not, it was stupid and petulant – and for once he was having a good game. Wrecked any chance of us getting a winner.

Those two things alone over the course of the game gave us a mountain to climb. Not one of those incidents was Mick’s fault it was all the individual players fault – saying that Berra probably should have got a better or quicker call from a “team-mate”.

The term doomed starts coming to mind. I really cannot see where on earth we will get the points from. I really hope I am proved wrong. But before people call for Mick’s head – when those players step on that pitch it is up to them and one or two of the ALWAYS let down their team-mates, the club and the fans.

I for one will be writing to Wolves asking for Karl Henry to be fined at least a months wages for an action that has bought shame on a great club like Wolves. I never want to see Karl Henry play for the club again after that, and certainly won’t be spending my money with the club in order to pay his wage.

And poor Frimpong – a really good player and I hope his injury isn’t too bad. We need him back desperately. When O’Haras back, him and frimpong could be a really good combination – but by the time it happens it might be too late.

Morgan needs to spend the money to get some quality. As for Mick – you have been an amazing servant for Wolves, but I can feel your pain now. Let down by your players too many times. Whether your tactics are right or wrong – the players are on the pitch earning rediculous wages and all too often poor individual errors cost us. We have real quality at the club, Fletcher, Jarvis, Kightly but we will lose those players with relegation.

I am Wolves till I die but I really need the team to do something special to get me believing again.

Berra’s fault for the penalty and Henry’s moment of madness illustrate what happens when at best mediocre players are given regular playing time in the PL. As for Keane’s goals, well, how many have we scored from outside the box this season? None, as it happens… It is this combination of lack of quality, margins and luck (Frimpong’s injury an example of the latter) which makes staying up a mighty task yet again. Three out of Wigan, Bolton, Blackburn and Wolves to be relegated, I think.

Yet another awful result. We can’t get a win from anywhere, and relegation looks a certainty unless we freshen things up (i.e. sack Mick McCarthy). We aren’t adrift yet and I think a new manager would reinvigorate us when we need a result most (look at Sunderland and QPR, and WBA last season.) A manager appointed quickly would still have a week to grab some bargains in the transfer window. You do have to wonder how we can justify a new stadium if there’s no money to throw at staying in this league…

I do take issue with the comments aimed at Robbie Keane. It’s quite clear we didn’t make any sort of offer – lack of ambition? 5) did you really expect a professional footballer to intentionally miss a goalscoring opportunity? Do you genuinely blame him for doing his job for a new club? Any player will take any opportunity, noone would be deceitful enough to miss a chance – if they did, imagine how many games would become fixed. The fact he didn’t celebrate shows he’s a top player and isn’t greedy – he remembers the debt of gratitude he has to us. Comments like yours are just looking for a scapegoat for what was a poor defeat that leaves us staring the Championship.

Exactly what qpr will do, exactly what Sunderland did, exactly what stoke have done. Quality manager, quality back room staff to support and coach and bringing in quality premiership players. If they’re not going to rebuild the Steve bull stand, not going to put money into the team, they might as well settle for the inevitable.

Until we have an owner who is passionate about the team, and prepared to invest like those who were around us but are now in the comfort of mid table, then we have no chance! Sure, Mcarthy is out of his depth, but quite frankly, so are Morgan and Moxey. A stadium before a team!! Mind boggling! Please sell to some one with passion and common sense. Enough is enough!

Mr Morgan needs to build his dream quickly and get the stadium and new academy finished because he obviously will not sack Mr McCarthy for the poor performances of this season and neither will he invest in a new centre half, a new midfielder, and a proper striker to play alongside Fletcher. I fear Wolves will be playing in front of a fantastic new stand in the championship unless Mr Morgan lets Mr Moxey spend some of his money on some proper, decent, Premiership quality players.

So, great first half but threw it away in the 2nd. Granted Frimpong going off was unfortunate but Henry’s actions ~(idiotic) help cost us the game…I say ‘help’ because there are other issues here.

The reality is we can’t defend and cannot concentrate for 90 (+) minutes in a game. The difference today was the quality of a player who knows where the back of the net is…so please stop all of this nonsense calling Keane a traitor…our position has nothing to do with Keane. We are where we are because we are not good enough and deserve to be there, pure and simple. It is not just about this one game it’s been about how we’ve played for the last few months – goals conceeded, goals scored, tactics and a lack of ambition from our owners to do something about it.

McCarthy is not going to take us any further but he will take us down. Him and clipboard between them because of the lack of ambition above them. Don’t blame the staff – blame the people who employ the staff. Morgan & Co.

If Steve Morgan is satisfied with what is happening then I am afraid nothing will change. If he hasn’t got the b**lls to do something about it then nothing will change. We will go down.

The games against Blues proved we are a championship team who sometimes lift our game. That’s it.

We need another striker of quality and a proper partner for Frimpong because as soon as he went off Henry reverted to crab football anyways.

I could rant on and on, probably like many of you but the man that can change things is Morgan…..but is he going to step up to the plate or bottle it?

Frankly, I don’t think his pair is big enough.

think positive, we were actually LEADING A MATCH for 20 minutes today, the delicious feeling of being ahead, ohhh, so rare, the last time that happened we… erm, lost at home to stoke. Oh, but then there was that last 4 minutes vs Sunderland when we somehow played a bit for the last 8 minutes… fun, fun, fun! I feel nostalgic for 2011 already.
Or do I mean, Mick’s teams start out for a draw, then try to fight back for one bravely once we go a goal or two down. So let’s do the math… assuming we draw all of our remaining matches that leaves us with… relegation (ie: 34 points).
To put things in real context – Blackburn Rovers are above us! And as things stand at half time, Bolton are too… Cue Liverpool arriving at the Mol on tuesday looking to lose twice in a raw against the second bottom team? Err, I don’t think so.

Henry once again lets the team down with his petulance. He should never again be allowed to don the Gold and Black shirt. As for Morgan and the board, they won’t sack Mick for one simple reason. Frimpong has everything we lack normally, pace, power, verve and the team took his lead. 2nd half Villa responded to a barracking and one change and bullied the game. We immediately were cowed and then clueless and that is the most worrying thing. Wayne beats his wobbles, Johnson is growing, Kights is exciting, Jarvo is keen and Fletch can score – but there is only sporadic quality to support them. Now Frimpong (absolute top quality) is basically out for the season and we are in a very much 5 way relegation fight. Can’t see anyone getting dragged in and can see QPR investing enough to pull away. That leaves us in a pretty dire position.

Not Mick’s fault today, whether we are in this position long term due to him, Moxey or Morgan or not will no doubt be debated, but can’t see a way out.

How can anyone say Mad Mick is not to blame. If he can’t be blamed for the teams failure how can he be praised for the team sucess.

Mad Mick is out of his depth and has been since the day we got romoted. 8 Championship team players started today, despite over £40mil largely wasted by this man.

We persist with Berra, give him anew contract but game after game it is clear he to is out of his depth, SPL or Championship at best.

Key areas have not been addressed sucussfully since promotion.

We are going down! Mad Mick has been taking us down for three seasons, we have simply survived for the last two, we wil not be so lucky this time!

Keane is paid by Villa and has a job to do, i’m sure if we had offered him the opportunity he’d of done it for us, but we didn’t. Realistically why would he or anyone else decent want to sign for a manager devoid of any tacticla ability though who has to revert to one forward because he is unable to produce a team capable of defending with any less than 10 men back.

Morgan – I think you’re more interested in the profit than the football, thats why you started to develop the ground to further exploit teh fans. Well, what will the balance sheet look like in the championship? Maybe a decent manager would have delivered better salable return on £40mil investment, who other than Fletch could be sold at anything other than a loss?

Finchy Robbie Keane is not Judas.

He was the only player on the pitch that could have finished those 2 strikes hit the target early obviously he learned from his time with Bully.

He did not celebrate his goals how many other ex-players have kissed the badge of their new team when scoring against their old one, not Robbie.

Now to the game if only they lasted 25 minutes, why did we changed the style of play at the start of the 2nd half ? What was Carl Henry doing I bet his brother Thierry cant believe it ;) thats all.

Sam Vokes a young and hungry striker never given a chance by McCarthy may be sold this week remember Mark Davies.

Milijas had the Skill and confidence knocked out of him because he doesn’t put a SHIFT in.

When we go down and I hope I am wrong you can say goodbye to Wayne Hennessey, Steven Fletcher and Matt Jarvis why because they will be like Robbie Keane, Judas’s (Finchy’s words not mine) who have more ambition than this once great club

Following today’s debacle McCarthy has surely reached the end of the road. I have stated that I will not renew my ST as long as he is still in charge in any event certainly not to sit in an empty stadium watching Championship football as now seems almost certain.

Like many other supporters I suspect, I will not return until I can see a major change in priorities which puts the playing of football first and the focus on Team & tactical development. We all know that the best players will be sold, the ground will resemble a ghost town – look at teams like Coventry etc but the fans will still be asked to continue to stump up blindly for second rate football from second rate players. But hey great Moxey will still make his annual bonus with his wonderful accounting skills – so who gives a flying fig about football?

Oh yes the game of football itself. We had a wonderful spell in the first half when a Kightly inspired performance put Villa in their place & who should have been dead and buried. At 2-1 we should have pressed home the advantage by taking the great chances that came our way & I can’t help thinking that the purchase of a 2nd quality striker these chances would have gobbled up and put the game out of sight. And what did McCarthy say to them during the interval? Back pedal boys? defend & allow them to come on to us? Whatever it was it worked brilliantly for Villa as we stopped playing, dropped deeper and handed the initiative to Villa. Henry should be fined the max for a stupid retaliation which changed the game and made a comeback virtually impossible. How ironic too that Wolves fan man & boy Henry sits on his derriere for the next 3 games contemplating the fact that he helped nail Wolves relegation coffin down. The loss of Frimpong (who ran the game until injured) will be a bitter blow in the coming weeks and we can only hope that the injury is not as serious as it looked.

And what about the lazy Jarvis? – He clearly didn’t want to be on the park but should have been pulled off well before he gave away an awful pass for Keane to score and was also at fault for not tracking back to stop the Hutton cross which led to number 3.

Finally – we continue to invest in re-building the Academy but what’s the point? When was the last time a player came thru the Academy to play regular 1st Team football – Hennessey? Before that Mark Davies? WWFC just don’t give the kids a chance so where’s the benefit to the Club for that? Doh stupid of course 60 houses which will make a wonderful profit for WWFC – NOT!!! The priorities of our wonderful club just do not stack up.

    Totally disillusioned but still………………………………………

We played very well first half and didnt finish Villa off.
In the second half we sat back thinking we can defend a 2-1 lead in a local derby with our defensive record??? We let Villa back into the game and lost. Keano isnt the player he was but I’m sure our defence would have given him ample space to score. Am I right??

We are now in the bottom 3.
What is happening in the transfer marker?
We need another defender and striker now.

Why does Mick keep playing edwards? He score the odd goal but has no other effect on games and I cant see him getting into any other prem team certainly not villa.

Well the good news is (hopefully Frimpong will be okay) that Henry will be out for 3 matches, so O’Hara can slot back into the midfield along side Frimpong. We are now in the bottom three, I don’t blame Kean for our plight either, but rather the NUMPTIES who repeatedly allow MM to buy untried bargain basement types, the latest guy from Hearts for example. Its not the Hearts Guys fault any more than it was the other poor buys MM has made over the last 5 years, for every decent signing he made it appears that there were at least 2 or 3 bad ones. Great first half come back from which was a stonewall penalty by Berra too slow in clearing the ball. Kites was great in the first half but disappeared in the second why was that? Maybe because he was up against a proper left back in the in Warnock in the second half for Villa. Harsh by me I guess, well Frimpong looks to be out for 3 months with broken cheekbone that was what was reported on the radio on the way home, tough loss or unless he could wear protective mask then maybe he’ll be back quicker because we need him, he was having an excellent game and when he was off our game plan fell part. Henry, stupid sadly most Wolves didn’t see it judging by the over top reactions sitting the Bull stand, two guys almost got into a fight over difference of opinions of the sending off. Overall the difference was Keane, I thought we would stay up but we really don’t look like a winning another game of football this season.

As I write this Bolton have just beaten Liverpool 3 – 1, another results that has put us further down.

Now, the overall club has become in my opinion a very arrogant one. Moxey, Morgan and Mick’s got a big ego at that without the results to prove it fits with him. We get fed rubbish this and that from the 3 Ms now Moxey hopes for a swapping of players type of transfer system that already exists in exchange deals which rarely happen now. It’s like how Morgan at some point last season or early this season called on for wage caps well that’s hypercritical I’m pretty sure Blackpool would loved to signed Hammill on that the time reported 20 grand week and would Norwich would love to sign some defender on 40 grand a week? It’s all about doing the best with what budget you have it’s not a problem for West Brom and you don’t hear anything from them, I guess some fans would call me a hypercritical but I just need to get this off my chest as this club is getting a bit stale. We have spent huge amounts of money and player recruitment for what has been spent hasn’t been good enough to moves us forward. The team that started today had 8 players from the championship winning side, they can only go so far, it’s like what Paul Franks said a little while back this season that the 3 Ms had gambled on the 3 new teams struggling and those 3 will all stay up and comfortably, it is now looking like it will be between the bottom 4 in the league to fight for 17th spot.

Also what Moxey said about the pubs is also another example of their contempt towards the fans and working class people who trying to keep their businesses running, Moxey should drive around the Black Country area and see how many pubs have gone under and vanished, what does he expect, them to go down without a fight for survival just like the current football team in Wolverhampton?

Well well well, firstly let me say to all of those bemoaning Keane. What do you expect a professional footballer to do? are you really suggesting Keane should put less effort in against us? There were a few differences between the two sides in this game. First was Keane, and I take my hat off to him, a professional goal scorer to the end.
The question you should be asking is why he isn’t playing in old gold?
The answer is that Wolves lack the desire to sign a top player like him, even on loan. This board are so blinded by profit and loss, and are simply happy to take our money every week, forgetting the results and hoping for the best.
Secondly was Henry, what a waste of time it is playing him, he should be out of the door before McCarthy.
Thirdly was poor Frimpong who had a great game, and I wish him a speedy return, and hope the injury isn’t too bad.

So stop whinging about Keane and see the truth, Wolves lack ambition and are going down. Once that happens it will be drop after drop after drop. Mark my words.

The time to have made a management change was around November to December. Other club owners acted decisively and shed their failing managers and took the best available on the market . Our owner takes a different view as we are not a hiring and firing club – his words . This means no compensation to be paid , saving money , no hiring of a good manager meaning higher wages , it is all about money . After two and a half seasons in the top flight it is so plain to see that MM is not up to the task . I initialy thought that S.Morgan was slow and indecisive but I no longer think this . While in our big unfinished stadium fans will, according to the Club, have a ‘fantastic matchday experience’ eating in a fancy new restaurant and drinking in a fancy new bar in the new Stan Cullis Stand… when the ‘fantastic matchday experience’ they really want is to see an attractive winning team with a clever, modern inspirational Manager! Oh and lets not forget the fantastic new museum of the 1950′s which a Mr.S.Morgan will show to our young fans so they can see how successful a club should really be. Someone posts they ‘can’t see a way out’ and I agree, I don’t think there is one. We have been playing a ‘dice with death game’ for three years and the luck has run out.
What I’d find almost fascinating were I not so gutted by the dire situation, is the sanguine way it’s accepted by so many – most of all by the owner/board. Clearly they must have relegation as an agreeable fall back position. I trust it’s only one relegation, but it would be heartening to know they might take steps if it looked like being two or more.
My view is even one relegation is a catastrophe which could set the club back a decade or more, but the hierarchy seem they would be more concerned if they didn’t get the right amount of ice with their next round of pink gins!
On an entirely different note I sincerely hope young Frimpong is not too seriously injured, but it didn’t look good when he was taken off. Great pity, he was making a difference and providing some much needed quality.
As for Henry, he should have the decency to publicly apologise and remove himself from the payroll – today he did more for Villa than he did for the side he was supposed to be representing. As I recall he also unstitched the team at Wigan last year, and I’d repay the ‘Crab’ with his P45.

No luck, no discipline,no ambition. That sums us up. For the older fans, the North bank is looming large, a bit like the John Ireland stand. If I recall correctly, we talked about ambition, even signed a couple of decent players, then all the money went into developing what is now the Steve Bull stand and of course the rest is history.
Mick has tried his best and should leave this club with a big thanks. But there is no point replacing him if there isn’t going to be some on field investment. Our squad isn’t good enough. Our best player today by a mile was Frimpong (young loanee) until he got injured. Fletcher and Hennessey are good players but remember, MM didn’t fancy Fletch and would give him decent run until Doyle got injured.
The rest of the team are average bottom 3 at best. It pains me to say that but it is reality. Kightly played well in the first half and even Johnson is improving but the same old errors are made by the same old players, Berra – too slow, Foley – just not quite good enough, Ward -tries really hard but not a left back, Henry – I’ll add stupid after today, Edwards – gets into good positions but neither consistent enough or stays fit, Jarvis – one trick pony and set up AV second goal.
Don’t accuse me of being negative as I attend more games than I miss and never boo the team. But the reality is, we have not improved since we were promoted. We have been lucky there were worse teams. I truly believe our luck has run out.
SM will do nothing. I say it is time he went. At least we all knew Sir Jack loved Wolves. SM is a Liverpool supporter. Has he invested personally? can someone tell me.

Well well well, after all the talk this week, another heroic failure. P’Neill and Hughes have been snapped up and we’re sleepwalking back to the Championship. Bottom but one tonight, but hey don’t worry we can hit bottom outright soon. Still, we’re building aren’t we? Continuity is what counts. Well we struggled in our first season, continued to struggle in our second season and struggling massively in our third season. Now that’s what I call continuity! Here’s to the best ground and training facilities in the Championship next season!

We have 9 days left to get players in, Morgan the clock is ticking and it is you and you alone that can make the call that will give us fans a bit of hope in the next 4 months. If we go down which we will if this pillock is still in charge come Tuesday you will lose fans on the gate and the club will start to fall drastically. Change my opinion of you Morgan, because currently I doubt you could organise your sock draw nevermind a club that has tradition. And by the way when we getting our roof on the northbank, another mess up!!!

    Stato – Dear o Dear o Dear.

I’m not sure how bad the team has to get before you wake up and realise the manager is totally , 100 % at fault. 3 Years and £40 million buys you relegation does it?

If you can’t see it now, you never will because I honestly don’t think we can get any worse. 2 wins in 23 games is it? Have you not noticed, you’re stato after all.

Mick is 100% responsible for both Berras and Henrys stupidity because neither of them are good enough to play in this league, yet Mick plays them both week in week out.

You say Berra is consistent, he is, consistently not good enough.

The state dont lie. Swansea have kept more clean sheets in 21 games than Wolves have in 3 years in the premiership. Says it all to me.

I am unhappy having to say “I have wrote many times on here, saying that MM would definetly take us down!”
I dont hate the man I just look at what is on the field, the players purchased and sold, the wins gained the losses accrued the constant battle with relegation, the same players creating the same problems.Berra for example, can anyone say the way he “grapples, pulls shirts” and he does this week in week out.If a MANAGER cant get this rectified what chance is he giving himself?
How come fans see that we pass the ball backwards more than any other team in the premiership yet “MM” does not?
How come it is only till recently that “MM” as realised that “DOYLE” is just not a a goalscorer ? MM is not able to see the truth,it can only be as he is not man enough to say as he wants to manage the club.
If he was commentating on “WOLVES” games and the “MANAGER” he would “HIGHLIGHT” all the problems,He would be saying what most of the fans are saying for “MONTHS”.If he was not the “MANAGER” what would he say if asked “do you think the manager is doing a great at wolves”? We won our first two “GAMES” since then we are winning “1 in 10″ even for “MM” this is a disgraceful return. As before he was able to win “2 in 10″!
Yet some and I am glad its only a few say he is “MICKO the MERLIN”!
We are going down,so I say keep him till the end of the season, dont waste any money to buy players that will never play,”sack him once relegated” so the few “MICKO” lovers may just then say “Yes he got us relegated it evens it up,as he got us promoted”!

First half great, second half dire.

Not sure what the Villa fans were crowing about on the radio – they looked a poor side apart from two moments of class by Keane. Taken them 13 years to sign him and then they only have him for two months!

In terms of Wolves, as the old cliche has it football is a results business.

We are plummeting and our only chance of turning things around looks like a change of manager with new ideas as a last throw of the dice. This is the third season of us being in exactly the same position – so it is clearly not a blip or a knee jerk reaction.

McCarthy is an honest and decent man doing his best and he does not deserve things turning sour. Morgan’s loyalty is laudable, to a point, but he now needs to make the right decision to try and keep us in the division.

The business strategy we keep getting told about by Morgan and Moxey needs changing immediately – at the moment there seems more interest and urgency in building projects and not the team. It simply can’t go on.

If the management were, as reported, happy with the limited additions to the squad last summer then the Board should not have been.

More investment should have been and still needs to be made in the team. If we go down then Hennessey, Jarvis and Fletcher will no doubt leave for big fees. Therefore it’s worth spending some cash now to try and keep us up to keep the TV money and the better players.

If we go down the blame will be as much (if not more) at the door of Morgan and Moxey as McCarthy for blindly following a strategy.

Facts speak for themselves wolves are not a prem team we are by default a chapionship side, jut look at the team put out today for example. Third season in the prem and the team sheet reads as: hennesy (promotion team)
Foley(promotion team) Bera(promotion team) Ward(promotion team) Henry(promotion team) Kites(promotion team) Jarvis(promotion team) Edwards(promotion team), that to me reads 8 out of the starting 11 were part of the team/squad that brought us up, so the question has to be asked what have we been doing for the past 2 seasons, I have heard of building slowly and steadily but this is stupid. You cannot build stability in a club with the constant fear of relegation. MM, Jezza and SM keep saying the we want better players, well tell us all please how you expect to atract better players to Mol when its obvious that 1 they wont play under MM and 2 if they do they will always be fighting relagation. There is a club not a million miles up the M6 that is a temendous example for what wolves should be trying to do, Mr Morgan we got Jezza from Stoke when what we should have done is took their prem nounce and decision making. They are an example of how to succed in the EPL without breaking the bank. Do us all a favour get big Sam down to his rightful place at Mol, we may not play pretty football but at the end of the season when your looking at your profit and loss sheet at least youll have another prem season to look forward to next year.

We deserved to be where we are now and if you look at the bench we see the lazy Milijas when he should never be there. Then the ineffective Elokobi just to remind you how Mc Carthy has failed to see how some players need not play for Wolves. Then you have the champion of backward play and passes Henry who got himself sent-off and fortunately enough we are not going to see him for sometime. That’s good news. The ground and training developments are a must for our team as in the future they will help us a lot. Some of the players bought by the manager are simply not good. It will be a blessing in disguise if we get relegated as this will intensify changes and at long last you will have a manager bold enough to draft in some valuable youngsters from our academy. The manager has bought in excess of 35 players and only a handful can play in EPL. As you see it is not always buying and spending that bring success. We have to produce players from the academy even if it means going down. If we continue with the likes of Henry, the lazy Milijas and Elokobi then our team’s hopes are hopeless. I totally agree with the way Morgan is running the team who does not want to embark on a spending spree that leads to bankruptcy and administration. Going down to rebuild is a good and right solution.

He is the reason you have been watching premier league football for the past three years.

NOTHING has changed with the transfers… he has very little money and can really only afford to buy one quality player a season.

Those for calling for henry never to play for wolves again… also know nothing about football… We have a very small squad and he is part of the best eleven wolves can offer at the moment. He was also the best player on the pitch at white hart lane… You all shut then didn’t. What he did today was stupid, and he should fined two weeks wages. But he is a WOLVES fan… He feels the same about Wolves as you do.

Lost again at home to another local rival

Robbie Kean and Mark Davis have probably sent us down between them.

    Support is dwindling fast

We have an incompetent manager, who doesn’t know his best team, tactics and player position selection leaves a lot to be desired.

    A coach who can’t coach

a fitness coach who has never been fit

    a championship squad

It just shows me how low our great club have sunk to when the fans boo a wolves player that came through the youth system and went on to better things to give the club the cash injection they needed at the time! £6mil was it?

It also shows me that our great club Wolves have been “mccarthied” the terminology refers to a once passionate, close nit, skillful team having all skill, passion and individuality “mccarthied” out of them.

At the game today I witnessed Kightly running forward in the villa half, slow down and wait for Foley to go on the overlap. Foley was willingly about to oblige only for madmick to bellow out “get back, get back, Foles get back”

At the time we were 0-1 down…..shocking, what more can you say!

People are saying great performance? We started very slowly – AGAIN
Berra is shocking, rugby tackler at best and his chickens came home to roost!
Ward – shocking and no left back, awful player given far to many chances by madmick
Stearman – shocking poor championship player, showed promise when signed but clipboards coaching has put him back years
The list goes on…..and on…….and on!

The coaching is poor, whatever happened to Taff Evans? When he left our coaching fell to pieces and the tactics became shambolic!

Regarding managers available – who cares – anyone would be better!
Keegan, Copple, Moyes (yes let’s have a go for it! Ambition)
Lets go for a foreign coach, what about the old west ham player, national coach?

To all those on here asking who should/could replace Mick.

Yes, I agree that the options are slim at the moment. The reason for this is that in the last 12 months 4 or 5 ideal replacements have been snapped up O’Neil, Hodgson, Allardyce, Hughes etc.
Unfortunately, WE weren’t among the clubs doing the snapping up…..for this I blame the dithering and clueless board who lack any kind of foresight and the Happy Clappers who have been more than content to stand by and support this obviously out of depth manager who has gone on to systematically dismantle all the positive achievements whilst losing any remaining respect the fans had for him in front of your very eyes.

Ah, so it’s true – empty vessels do make the
most noise. The anti-Mick brigade are out in force again it seems. Remarkably quiet after the terrific performance at Spurs weren’t you? And probably fuming at half time after we’d spent the previous 30 minutes wiping the floor with Villa, playing some terrific stuff. Yes, silly errors (and a wonder strike from Keano) cost us but I still think that if Frimpong had stayed on the pitch we’d have won today. Ifs, buts and maybes I know but one thing I am certain of is that Mick McCarthy – a decent, honest human being who’s worked his socks off for Wolves and has arguably been more successful than anyone here since the John Barnwell/Richie Barker partnership, does not deserve the poisonous bile aimed at him on here from people who couldn’t string a sentence together let alone a pass. The players are good enough to stay in the league they are badly bereft of confidence and its the managers job to install that and get the best out the players to play a style of football that suits them. He has no idea, he brings in signings who are not even in the squad and plays them out of position. If we pursue with MM then the last game of the season will be a shoot out to who will finish botton us or wigan.

To those who are asking for the Board to get hard like Sunderland, QPR etc.

    Who exactly are ‘the Board’?

Seems to me that this club is run by two, possibly three people and ‘the Board’ daren’t open their mouths.

There seems to be no way to break this stranglehold that they have short of all out boycotting of games until they see sense.

Hit them in the pocket. It’s the only thing some people understand.

Don’t know why Guedioura wasn’t on the bench. No point having Doyle and SEB. We would never be likely to bring on both against a side like Villa. Hammill was on the 5.45 train to Euston with a suitcase – which would suggest given he has no London connections and his girlfriend (who was with him) is also Scouse, a departure or a loan move.

Another lesson in tactics mick. Villa were gettin ripped apart in the first half by kightly. They bought on a left back to stop him and it worked. He was anonymous second half. Memories of the stoke game when pulis took off woodgate cos he couldn’t cope. And in both games mick done nothin to change it. No surprise in yet another defeat. I am 65
and have been watching Wolves since I was a kid. My dad took me to see Wolves v Man City back in the late 50′s. I can honestly say that the defence we have now is by far the worst defence that I can ever remember. Roger Johnson is OK as is Stephen Ward. But Berra is is seriously poor and as for todays sub Richard Stearman, he is without doubt the worst defender I have ever seen wear the Old Gold and Black of Wolves. I have been saying for at least 2 years that the back 4 are not good enough. For Wolves even to contemplate getting a point we always have to score at least two goals. Today two goals just wasnt enough. As for Henry; he should have been dropped weeks ago but Mick loves him like a son.
How can we get rid of Mick now when all the decent available managers have now been snapped up.

    What a shambles!

See you all next seasonn in the Championship.

    A number of points

Firstly – all you muppets who were slagging off Robbie Keane are a bunch of cretins. He is probably the most talented individual to wear a Wolves shirt in the last 15 years… by a long way. Then again are all you folks calling him Judas about 15 years old and still sucking on your dummy when he played for us. Not his fault Wolves are too tight to show ambition and take him on loan. He shows his usual respect by not celebrating his goals.

Secondly – hopefully that’s the last time Karl Henry plays for us (but we all know he will be straight back in after his 3 match ban. no question!). The guy is a disgrace. He cost us big today.

Thirdly – Berra finally succeeded in doing what he always looks like he’s going to do – giving away a penalty.

We played pretty well first half and should have been 2 or 3 goals up at half time. But same ole same ole, failing to take our chances when on top. I can not see us getting out of the bottom 3 now. In fact I expect us to be bottom within a couple of weeks time and that’s where we will remain until the end of the season, unless a miracle occurs… and I don’t believe in those.

I find myself looking at the table and trying to find three worse teams than Wolves in the bottom half and I can’t.

After this self-inflicted defeat to a patched-up Villa side it’s difficult to see the road ahead leading to an improvement on last season’s finish.

It is even more galling to see the likes of Norwich and Swansea thriving on a low budget and gracing the leage with their style in the process.

All I can say is AVFC changed there left back and that won them the game. MM is tactically naive and should go. AVFC went from 4-5-1 to 4-4-2 in the 2nd half and MM didn’t react. We we’re in charge at half time and went in with our heads up. Frimpong has a swelling on his eye ( Sky Sports/Twitter ) so we will see what that may be. Its now Jan 21st and we need some quality along with Frimpong but who will play for MM/TC I think we need to do the right thing and get a reality check Monday and no later … Maybe that taxi is waiting for the management team.

It just goes to show what a bit of quality can do , Frimpong outstanding until the kick which was well late when you see it on MOTD, we should have been 4-1 up at half time! Doyle again useless and i cant see him scoring more than another 2 goals all season.
This is now getting past a joke, we need 4 quality players including 2 defenders i’d rather spend the guaranteed relegation money on trying to stay up than being in the BLACK at the end of the season! But all we will probably get if we are lucky is another championship chump, Stan Cullis and Billy Wrights we havent got but if they can send some divine intervention it would be very welcome at present. As For Henry you are a pathetic idiot trying to protest your innocence; why did you not fall fall on your face and roll about to get Albrighton sent off when he was holding you, you cost us the match today and have also probably helped to relegate us. If we do go down, we wont hold onto Fletch or Jarv, and i cant see the remaining scoring enough to gain automatic promotion CAN YOU? I hope someone from Radio WM has the bottle to get Steve Morgan on live next week – we have to spend big now and restucture the wages do this and we may just escape the fizzy pop league… hugely disappointed with the lack of ambition and false dawn’s again saying that all would be different as we didn’t want a last day like last year, very short memories from the 2 “M’s”

second half, we went to sleep, i left when it was still 2-2, if morgan cant trust mcarthy with the money to keep us up then its time for changes.

with 16 games left, position is unimportant as nobody got relegated before april(middlesborough/derby the exceptions).

I’m still mad about the game and I hope Keane feels real bad for what he did today! Yeah it’s not his fault we are in the bottom 3 but it still hurts!!!

Hope Frimpong isn’t out for that long. I have to agree with some of the posts about the Academy investment…. whats the point? we will get a few good players come through sell for little and then there next club will sell again for millions, Happened many times! I don’t think its the reason for stopping the building of the new stand. It has been stopped because the risk of us getting religated now are high and they have a choice to stop it where as last year the choice had to be made quickly and luckily for Morgan it payed off and we stayed up, you can guarantee if we were mid table it would be going ahead regardless of Academy investment!

I also agree with some posts on here that Morgan shows us little enthusiasm for our club and this attitude towards players wages and value for money is just to risky in the premiership.

RichWolf & Streako I can’t resist replying…. I said MM wasn’t to blame for todays defeat and it was the actions of others that was the problem, the first half we were amazing!! Yeah i’m angry with Keane but I’ll still support him in his other games and I hope he scores loads….

When we played Villa away, they were all over us and I couldn’t believe we got a point. Today we were all over them and I can’t believe we didn’t get 3! I am very angry with Henry, he’s let us all down, but let’s keep it in perspective. There are some big positives to come out of this match. Kightly was superb – should have had more of the ball in the second half – Johnson had a good game as did Jarvis. So did Frimpong (3 months is a worst case scenario – no one knows yet!). We have O’hara to come back and we are 1 point from seventeenth.

Most importantly for me, we played like we wanted to win the match for a change and even with 10 men and only a few minutes to go when it went 3:2 we didn’t give in.

This season isn’t over yet and I back us to stay up, providing we stick together. There is no one better available in the manager department at present, and we will need Henry to play for us again this season so we need to close ranks.

The worse thing we can do is what the Blackburn fans are doing – that will drag them down!

I have watched every game this year apart from the the first game of the season against Blackburn.
Today I thought the first half was great although I would send Berra back to Scotland because he is not a Premier player. I thought in the first half we utilised Kightly greatly but we did not seem to use him much in the second half.

Watched the game after the fact and did not know the score. Absolutely ruined my weekend!!! Berra and Jarvis made seriously poor errors that cost two of the goals and we were undone by Keane’s brilliant finishing. The loss of Frimpong was really disappointing as he was playing great. Henry’s stupid kick out at Albrighton was quite ridiculous and unnecessary resulting in our central midfield being wiped out.

As for the morons on here asking why Keane could not throw the game for us!!!! Get a life!!! The man is a professional and was doing his job – quite brilliantly in fact!!! Ask yourselves why people like Doyle and Ebanks-Blake cannot emulate hid deeds!!!

I am past the blame game – as far as i am concerned we are simply not good enough and that includes management, coaching staff and players. I am tired of the relentless loss of points, lack of wins and inability to play quality football for 90 minutes. MM’s record is abysmal no matter what anyone says.

The people you should aim your rubbish at 1. Steve Morgan & 2. Jez Moxey, not even Mick can be blamed for this one as i think it was Moxey who came out the other year and said that MM had identified him as a target & when they went to get him he was 70k a week! and they wouldnt and will not pay it!

Robbie Keane has never had an offer from us to turn down!

I find this a huge mistake, not only can he produce moments like yesterday he would have given the whole club a massive lift just by his presence, ignoring this and going on to sign mediocre average tat is what we have done for years and our squad is 90% full of players who are sub standard “do a job” types!

Keane’s reaction yesterday to his goals in my view still leaves him held in high regard at the club because i don’t see what he has done wrong, he is a proffesional & he has pride in his job too! he has to repay the club that HAS actually shown faith in his ability and HAS actually decided to pay him his wages!

Those of you suggesting he should have missed on purpose???
What are you people on? is that what you want football to become? a cheats game?

The blame should firmly lie at the feet of SM, JZ, MM if you dont pay the money you dont get the players, the times we have forked out i think MM has identified the wrong players & most of all the WRONG positions!!

A game of two halves. Best performance of the season first half after Berra’s careless start. Best player was the youngster from Arsenal though. 2nd half was a disaster. Wolves concede far too many goals from soft positions and Henry’s antics were inexcusable. Hope the club fine’s a big one.
Better sides than Wolves have been relegated from this tough league. The comparitive performances and success of Norwich and Swansea against all opposition, suggest that Steve Morgan has had poor value for money from Mick’s signings and selections.
I was amazed that anyone who started on Wednesday including Berra, played any part in the Villa game after such a dreadful all time low performance against Birmingham.
The squad doesn’t look strong enough to keep us in this division. Time for a clear-out.

177 Rocks – Reluctantly I agree with those sentiments – the cupboard is pretty much Mother Hubbard – the decision on Mick should have been taken long ago, because quite clearly he has never given the slightest evidence of his suitability for Prem level management.
The inability to take the decision to be rid of him reminds me of my days attending mandatory management lectures – I disliked them intensely but a few useful titbits did hold good, and what you can see at Wolves today is what was described as ‘Paralysis by Analysis’. Basically it refers to poor management decision making, usually due to dithering over what needs doing and when to do it. In the end little gets done and even that is often too late.
The decision to get rid of MM hasn’t yet been taken, and is now hopelessly overdue, so that the only available replacements are similarly useless, and furthermore may not be as comfortable as he has been with the lack of practical ambition at the club.
Wolves are surely going down, and in doing so they will provide a classical case of Paralysis by Analysis for the management text books of the future! So the next time Mr Morgan starts talking ‘management speak’ he will have a gem of his own to relate.

Why not give Neil Warnock a contract till the end of the season. He has a track record in coming in and sorting clubs out. He might ruffle a few feathers but at least he is effective. We can’t go on doing nothing.

What disappoints me is that none of the commentators (Hanson, Lawro etc) are questioning McCarthys track record. How bad does it have to get before anyone in the media questions the future of ‘good old mick’.

Steve Morgan said Wolves performances had to improve. Since then we have lost to Birmingham and now Villa. How much longer cam Morgan avoid the inevitable. QPR and Sunderland had a clear plan in place (judging by the speed of bringing in a new manager). I doubt whether it has even ocurred to Morgan and Moxey that they might have to eventually do something because they had such unswerving faith in the manager. If they act now then there is at least a few days left in the transfer window. If they don’t act then i fear the worst.

Someone who works hard on the training ground, builds young teams to play football and not mick’s tactics that are so out dated in the modern game. One man who i’m impressed with everytime i hear him speak is Eddie Howe.Fantastic job at bournemouth and doing it again at burnley transforming the club from top to bottom. Young modern managers with fresh ideas and fresh approaches is the way to go e.g. rogers, Lambert etc

The majority of posters have summed up situation at our once great club correctly.

We set off with the same game plan most weeks but selsct a different team most weeks.

We pass back to Hennessey from the start we then lose the ball.

we take a free kick outside the penalty area with Hunt & Henry, why because it worked once so we keep doing it, but nothing happens now,

If we look like getting something from the game McCarthy has no idea how to push on, we try but go defensive which never works.

Henry has not been worth his place all season, except at Spurs where for some reason he played excellently, yesterday he started in the same way and then as usual lost his head and did a stupid thing costing us the game.

McCarthy cannot bring himself to drop/sell Henry as he has made such public support for a player who in the eyes of most is very poor.

He keeps playing Hunt who is not playing well, so the midfield is over run, our passing is dreadful.

We have no creativity to the front players, we play only one up front, our passing across the field near the centre circle is legendary.

Therefore we don’t score goals and we keep conceding, this due to not having quality full backs, except for Foley who he thinks is a midfield player.

Then you have Berra who has played very well at time this season, but is prone to making mistakes at crucial times.

The other teams have clocked this and run straight through us, result now in bottom 2.

Why therefore does Morgan not make the change, only he knows.

Just wondering what lame excuse he will come up with like – we have had injuries to key players, the refs have cost us points blah blah blah. I don’t blame Keane for the Wolves board’s lack of ambition. I do blame McCarthy for having a centre-half who is SURPRISED to see a striker in the penalty area. I do blame McCarthy for persevering with a third rate central midfielder, who has cost us yet again. The 3 game Henry ban should be the silver-lining to this particular cloud so long as Frimpong is fit (rumours of fractured cheekbone apparently exaggerated) and O’Hara is back and Mick McCarthy and Terry O’Clipboard are gone. It’s time to turn on Bob the Builder Morgan and Swapshop Moxey. We can’t keep buying and selling tickets Jez. Next time I’m down the Molineux, I’ll turn up with something of equivalent value and swap you for a seat in your shiny new stand. I’m sure I’ve got a funsize mars bar left over from a selection box. I know your swapping premise works on the basis that I give you something you can use but the way I see it, you’ll have plenty of spare seats so you’ll have a quicker turnaround at the tuck shops. Failing that I’m sure we can come up with some other suggestions about what you can do with your funsize mars bar and your spare tickets.

Up to now, I have resisted the call for Mick to step down and have criticised those who have, in my view, unreasonably caused undue pressure on him, the team and the club. How can anyone play with confidence and remain in the Premier when there are so many nasty comments?

Since promotion some of the so called fans have bombarded everyone, especially MM with unwarranted abuse.

I have felt that continuity within a club and its management is crucial to its prolonged success which is why SM & GM have presumably retained MM’s services. I cite Sir Alex Ferguson as a prime example of how continuity has been outstandingly successful.

I have now changed my mind. I feel that it is time for MM to go in the best interests of the club. The board should to seek another manager who may be able to create the success that we all crave!

Whether it is MM’s fault (or GM or SM), is debatable. Who could possibly survive under such a barrage of criticism?

I do not think that MM can continue in the current situation and his status is untenable.

I congratulate and thank him for what he has done for the club. His achievements are outstanding, but MM MUST GO NOW.

It may all seem like doom and gloom now but things can turn around. Just look at Bolton. Hopeless for most of this season but now putting together a string of results.

Admittedly, it’s been difficult to see three worse sides than Wolves all season, but last season proved that the worst teams don’t always go down. If MM was made for one thing, and one thing only, it was relegation battles!

Today’s game was probably the most sickening game I have watched for a long time…1st half was awesome..great stats, great play and Kights was back to his best..second half was not so much…nothing to do with us not with us doing things wrong but with Villa working it out.
Today was frustrating… Berra, yes should not be giving penalties away like that…. but he sould not get a pass back to there.
Henry…there was no need for the stamp…I read the over reaction from Albrighton…(im wolves through and through and Im sorry but that was no over reaction…) Henry you should not have done that… but yet no one mentions that WE won the free kick yet we never got the free kick! It’s many years since I have contributed to this message board.
I have been a Wolves fan for 40+ years. I have seen us at rock bottom.
If things carry on like this then we will be again.
Mr Morgan, it should be team first, staff second, stadium last. We already had a great stadium before you got here. Why are you spending millions on a ground update when the team will be in the Championship next year.Put some money up for decent players and wages to keep them.
Mr Mcarthy, I admire you so much and we must always be grateful to you for getting us to the top flight where so many else failed. But you have taken us as far as you ever will. Always a bottom 5 club at most with you.
Players take responsibility on the pitch, but you make the signings and set the tactics. This season you have spent millions on a centre half who is clueless, you persevere with a striker who has not scored in the league since 22nd October. Henry should never pull a Wolves shirt on again after yesterday. But I am confident he will be back after his 3 match ban.
Players, with few exceptions, should hang their heads in shame. Losses to Stoke, Newcastle and QPR at home. Only managing to draw aginst Swansea and Norwich at home. 11 points since the 27th of August, thats 11 out of a possible 57. 2 wins since 27th August. It’s appalling and you should be ashamed to take your wages.
Next three games while Henry sits in his lounge are Liverpool, QPR and Baggies. Honestly, can anyone see anything out of those 3? I hope I’m wrong and have to eat humble pie.

Wolves should have paid the money for Keane on loan. If they think that it would upset the other players to have someone earning more than twice as much, they are wrong. If Keane came and did enough to keep Wolves up, those players would just be grateful to remain on Premier League wages next season, rather than having to either leave (the few who are good enough) or take salary cuts (which are built in to their contracts in the event of relegation)

It all stems from McCarthy’s attitude. He described yesterday as “another heroic failure”. Why, after two full seasons, is beating Villa 2-1 at half-time at home seen as “heroic”. He has a small club mentality and seems to think that any draws against “bigger” clubs is a bonus and that we only have the right to win about 5 games a season (v the likes of Wigan). Compare that to Paul Lambert and Tony Pulis’ attitude. Norwich might only be in season one, but I don’t remember us being 9th at this stage in either of the last two seasons. McCarthy is a loser who thinks losing is acceptable.

Biggest difference today was that before Frimpong had to go off we had a midfielder who was moving the ball quickly and passing it OUT wide so Kightly got a lot of the ball and they were both excellent. Then Frimpong gets injured and is replaced by the totally ineffective Milijas who spent the second half passing the ball INside to Henry or someone else five foot away, who would pass it back to him, so Kightly was not used.

After his performance in the Cup against Birmingham where he had acres of space in midfield but still passed five foot away, I am gob-smacked as to why Milijas was even on the bench – Oh yes! he has a good kick on him once a season!! – I suppose its as good as McCarthy’s stunning kick-off plan of passing back to the goalkeeper to hoof it up the field to the opposition defenders who weren’t expecting another Christmas present so soon.

It will now be interesting to see what Morgan’s Molineux Contstruction Company does about the team that he is supposed to care about. Would one of his construction managers still be in situ if he preformed as McCarthy does? I think not – which is why Morgan clearly views his construction business more important than a team he doesn’t support but sees as merely sellable floor space.

Frimpong is saddly a gonner for our season and if we don’t get someone in within the next 9 days it says that Morgan is willing to accept relgation to the Championship rather than spend on non-construction matters. McCarthy’s job will be safe as long as he goes along with this philosophy so get used to it – they are here to stay – and we are in the bottom three and here to stay!

How dumb are we to criticize Keane for scoring. That’s his job!

How many time do we have to see our best player, Matt Jarvis fail at left back. A poor clearance for the equalizer and then easily beaten for the cross that allowed Keane to score his second. He is a liability at left back and should not be allowed to come back more than ten yards into our half.

Carl Henry should never put on a first team shirt again after that stupid and damning foul. Even though Albrighton reacted like he was shot. Pathetic!

Milijas is an attacking midfielder not a defensive holding midfielder. Looked totally out of sorts in that role.

How sickening is it to see QPR with a new Manager and Sunderland with a new manager climbing the table while we fail and fail again under this clown.

Can anyone see where our next win is coming from?

Can anyone identify a pattern to our play?

Can anyone see any shape in this team?

It’s not the players, though a lot of them have absolutely no confidence.

Tragic to watch Doyle, who was so bright when he got here, trudging disconsolately off the field on Wednesday. McCarthy has ruined him, and no player has improved under the idiots “coaching”.

Are these players so much worse than QPR or Sunderland or Norwich or Swansea…NO! But those players play for managers that believe they can win, and who sets out strategies and tactics to accomplish that goal.

    A few points on yesterday

1 – the team we put out yesterday was good enough to stay in the Prem – albeit a loan signing was our best player. O’Hara for Edwards would make us even better. Unfortunately the rest of the squad is not – pretty much without exception on current form.

2 – Berra has done well this season, but it was a bad mistake yesterday

3 – Henry let us down badly with a stupid act

4 – If Frimpong really is out for 3 months then we are in very serious trouble (OK even more serious trouble)

5 – If you think McLeish pulled a tactical master-stroke then you clearly missed the interview when he said he didn’t, Agbonlahor was just ill.

6 – We didn’t make a tactical adjustment at half time, we just lost our best player early in the second half and then when we were back on top we went down to 10 men

7 – although this may not have been my expressed view during the game, the ref got all the major decisions right

Taking the three into consideration over 90% of these comments are saying McCarthy must go and I wonder if there is another club in the Football leagues that would tolerate such a dismal record that McCarthy has over the past 98 matches without sacking their manager.

Can someone please tell me why Terry Connor stays at the club everytime we change a manager, he has more lives than a cat. The squad we have is not brilliant, but the coaching is awful, you can see that in the passing, shooting etc.

Morgan has missed a trick, when Blues beat us in midweek he should have asked Houghton if he was interested in the job. He was unfairly sacked at Newcastle, done a fantastic job at Blues under really difficult circumstances.

Mick lost the dressing room at the start of the season by making Johnson captain and not dropping him when he needed to, since he dropped him he’s a different player, but I think that showed that he can’t handle ‘big’ players, he’s ok if he signs someone from the lower leagues.

As for Keane, he should of offered Wolves his services and got paid the same as our top earner, it’s only for six weeks, Wolves gave him the opportunity to become a multi-millionaire and MM gave him his international start. He should have celebrated in front of South Bank when he scored yesterday, because he should of been in a GOLD shirt. Look at Henry at Arsenal.

The man is a professional footballer. He is a striker. Paid to score goals.

He was a brilliant player for us and still loves this club. The fact that he never stayed says it all about the Wolves since 70′s. Underachievers, lacking talent or ability. Resigned to be a fleeting Premier League Team at best, but mostly the Championship or worse.

Why are you not critisising the indiscipline and lack of talent of Henry? Underachievers, Berra, Johnson, Doyle?

Why are we not highlighting the fact that Robbie should have been playing for us, but isn’t, due to lack of ambition.

Put it this way, if we played Burnley (which we may well be doing in a few months), Fletcher in a post match interview says he deliberately missed a couple of sitters as he loves his old club so much, we would be delighted.

Robbie is a gentleman. We should celebrate the fact that we were lucky to have him, that we discovered him, and that he still has talent and thirst to play football at the highest level.

Number 15 bilodave; quality quote and very true.

Those having a go at Keane, you’re talking nonsense. It’s his job. I know Robbie personally, he wasn’t offered opportunity to come to Wolves so didn’t. It’s his job to score goals for whoever pays him so stop being silly. He’s a true gent by the way.

We lost because we’re rubbish. Our manager is rubbish and our owner….well what can you say? Who knows what this mans criteria and objective is? Whatever it is it doesn’t seem to include anything other than WWFC scraping by.

As for Moxey this man is a fool of the highest level and I just wish he’d go far far away so I would never have to see his face or hear his nonsense again.

Our best two player yesterday were a lad on loan and a lad who’s been injured for most of the last three years, that says it all. Championship team, those players won the championship and that’s their level.

Hennessy has conceded another goal (second) that he should have stopped. He’s done it several times and despite lots of great performances has cost us a good 6-9 points with these errors this season.

At least Johnson now playing well but with Berra as his partner what chance does he have? Henry as well as being a very average player is now an actual disgrace to this club.

I was at game and best atmosphere of the season but so what? We’re letting the club down by allowing this to continue without proper protest against our awful manager.

Last chance now to let Mick go and still give a new man a slight chance of avoiding our almost certain relagation. I can’t see three teams worse than us this season. But then who would come in? There’s no fire-fighters around.

I’d really like someone up and coming, there’s some out there. Have a look round Milton Keynes or Huddersfield would be my advice.

I respect those true Wolves fans who support the team through thick and thin. It isn’t easy being a Wolves fan, but we can’t desert them now. It’s support that can bring us out of this mess, not criticism. The management and the board know what they have to do better than anyone here. They don’t like the situation either. The fact is three teams will go down this year and we might be one of them. The true test of our great team will be whether or not we can play our way out of this mess and stay up. Up the Wolves. Your true fans are still right behind you.

karl henry, he is not a disgrace to a Wolves shirt, just think how many times the big teams get away with this minor petulance (did you see the Man City Game)!!! His only fault was playing for Wolves and that means, like all small clubs, that double standards apply. If anyone was a disgrace it wast the oppositions over-reaction. As for Mick, he has struggled with a small playing staff, budget and wage cap. He has done wonders. As a cavaet, I don’t think Wolves go any further with this Captain at the rudder. I am non-plussed, however, as to who can do better given the constraints Mick may have worked under. The only one i could see was Martin O’Neil and has already been taken.

I think the issue was always IF had won on Saturday we would hardly have moved with the other teams too far ahead. A defeat plumnetted us to the bottom two as other results went against us and now the sobering thought is a few wins are hardly going to do anything. Now we need a real run, not the constant draws Mick was declaring as our ‘unbeaten’ run.

We haven’t won and we need to. To kick McCarthy out now is daft even though I would like to see it – WHO would come in? Be honest, do you want McClaren? Moyes won’t leave. Curbishley is stuck in pundit ville.

Moaxey for selling Keane in the first place all those years ago and for not putting forward a bit of cash to get Keane back. A lot of the managers mentioned above are just as bad if not worse than MM why would you swap? Also You go on about getting proven premiership players in yet some of you are saying it’s worth a punt to get in an up and coming manager…? Surely you would have to get better in than take a step back!

I dunno where I stand now… it’s been a very difficult weekend to be a wolves fan! I’m still angry at our position but we were in a much worse state this time last year! We stayed up then so we can do it again! Don’t write us off yet.

As for MM…. I think I will wait to see what happens over the next 3 games I want 6 points minimum from either Liverpool, QPR or WBA I honestly think we should be able to get 6 points but if we don’t then I’ll be looking for a spare seat in the ‘Numpty’ Room!!!!

Some good first half performances, nice to see Kites firing on all cylinders in the first half (don’t know what happened in the 2nd though). Bad mistakes cost us. A question, why do we keep using the short throw in with ball returned between throwers knee and waist for him to try to control and hoof away, surely we can use a number of options. I believe if Frimpong and Henry (stupid thing to do) had stayed on the pitch we would have won. Credit to Robbie Keane he did a professional job, a big pity we did not sign him. I don’t class myself as a happy clapper but I did applaud Keane as he scored 2 good goals and was a good servant to us and made us a fortune when we sold him – it was a british record for a teenager at the time. I certainly didn’t applaud Henry for letting the team down but I did give Albrighton some abuse for being a cheat – watch it again if you get chance – he tried to fake a kick to the head before KH gave him the excuse to put on an oscar winning performance. Most of all I supported the team to the end. Some weeks I lose my voice until Monday after shouting so much(Wednesday after we were cheated against Newcastle).

236 Debigbad etc – I’m not slating the majority of my fellow fans, especially the ones who turn up to support the team (SUPPORT – means getting behind your team, cheering them on – NOT booing, whistling, negative chanting etc)

I suspect that you’re the tesco as you obviously don’t read these forums regularly where you would have seen that I’m consistent in my comments re the whingers & boo boys. ps I’ve been to about 80 of the 92 league grounds with Wolves, had a season ticket for 35 of the last 40 years, been to Eindhoven, watched reserve & youth matches and spent many, many thousands supporting my team. Dig into your ALOB’s and see I’ve written there as well.

I’ll make you and all the other anti MM posters the same challenge that I’ve been making for a few weeks which only English Exile (we may not agree on some things but I respect his support for the Wolves) has bothered to answer:-

Please name an alternative manager who is likely to want to come to us given the senior managements spending limits and wage caps and the fact that they will have a one month honeymoom period before a couple of defeats will see the boo boys venting their spleen

The only names I’ve seen mentioned this week are Megson (the world’s most boring manager (even more boring than being a stato)) and Steve Bruce (who was sacked by Sunderland for being below us). Sorry if I’ve missed some as there are so many posts – where were you all last week when we did so well against Spurs?

Berra tries to clear the ball, Bent nips in so Berra ends up kicking him on the leg and it’s a nailed on penalty even though there was no intent.

Petrov tries to clear the ball, Frimpong dives in to head it so Petrov ends up kicking him in the face. Same scenario but not even a suggestion from anyone that there should be a penalty.

    Can someone explain?

Also, Henry was stupid retaliating but how come Villa got the free kick? Albrighton clearly fouled Henry and was stopping him from going after the ball.

Perhaps it’s me that doesn’t understand the rules but I think thatWolves should have had the free kick, Albrighton should have got at least a yellow and Henry got what he deserved.

I agree that Keane is a terrific footballer and i take my hat off to the man, a true professional and tactician! He still has us at heart but he is only doing what he is payed to do. This club would not pay the going rate for him as they have zero ambition. Looking at the transfer rumours we are going for Mancienne again! Is that all Mcarthy can look at? It is disgraceful that he is still here, he has no moral aptitude whatsoever. He definately has no shame. I wonder if he looks back on his track record and ponders? NO OTHER PREM CLUB would touch him with a barge pole! only a few days left in the window now, maybe they are keeping quiet on purpose and will surprise us at the eleventh hour? Who knows, but I doubt it. Who will come to a club in our poor, sad league position? It ain’t looking good now, it’s all falling apart quicker than a blink of an eye!

He then had chance to when the council were fighting to get the Bhattis out…but he didn’t.After two titles and a trip(or two)to Wembley he bought us.Those with less of a memory for these things than us, constantly insult the work put in by the people mentioned.SJH NEVER saved Wolves(he turned down the chance twice) and that’s the point that I was making.

Giving away a cheap penalty was inevitable considering that Berra’s got away with wrestling murder this season. I’m only surprised the guy hasn’t cost us at least six more, to be honest.

Henry, you’ve kicked us all well and truly in the happy sack. Your crazy petulance at a time when the game was still very much up for grabs helped assist in our downfall. You’ve shamed yourself, the club, the fans and that proud, gold shirt. So, you can save your apologies and lame excuses, ‘Captain’, because there’s absolutely none to be had in such a vital game. I dunno if you’re fit to wear the mighty Gold & Black after that, pal. You helped put another nail in our coffin.

Two days later and I’m still utterly depressed. Nearly everyone can see that Mick, Connor and the coaching staff are failing to deliver, but the one who really matters -Morgan- is both deaf and blind to it all.

This dreadfully sombre season has been very much akin to watching a much-loved family member having to endure a slow, lingering death. Wolves are finally fading away -yet it could all have been so very different had the patient been treated to tender care, love and affection rather than being endlessly drip-fed large doses of apathy and neglect.

Don’t blame Keane, he was just doing what he is good at. To boo him was ridiculous considering the service he gave us when he played for us.

Unfortunately, MM’s tactics cost us again. How many times do we sit back during the first half and letthe opposition attack us. Then we go a goal down and suddenly we start attacking them. Then we look good and create chances. Same on Saturday, went 1-0 down early so we then attacked and played superb. 2-1 up at half time and MM has his team talk. “Be careful and defend and don’t be to quick to attack them”.

Karl Henry, who is totally out of his depth in the Premiership, should never don a Wolves shirt again. Remember the sending off at Wigan. Same stupidity.

MM must change his tactics and attack for 90 minutes (plus Fergie time of course) and not just when we go behind.

Both feet off the ground, and if Kites hadn’t jumped out of the way he could have been looking at another lenghty time in the treatment room with a fractured leg. It was certainly a far worse challenge than Ned’s at Arsenal.
Can’t see where the team are going to pick up the necessary points now to avoid the drop.

Why are people getting on Robbie Keane’s back?? He is undoubtedly one of the best forwards at Molineux in the modern era and he should always be welcomed back with affection. What do people expect – that he’ll not bother? The reason he scored two fantastic goals was that he was given far too much room and time on the ball.
The problems for us stemmed from a number of idiotic moments and a clearly clueless bench that had little answer to McLeish’s half time changes. I would have thought even a numpty would know that Villa would shore up their left side and stop Kightly playing in the second half. And we did what exactly to change it?
Jarvis needs to be educated in defending and that’s MM and TC’s job. He has always been a little suspect on getting back and his distribution on Saturday in our third of the field was very questionable to say the least. There’s little to say about Henry that hasn’t already been, quite rightly, stated. To do what he did in clear view of the referee is mindless stupidity.
So to the future – I can’t see where our points are coming from now and those around us, except Wigan, are starting to get up a head of steam.
I’m annoyed and downright disappointed at Saturday’s result and really hope we can somehow get out of this mess.

Robbie Keane’s a ex-Wolf. He owes us nothing. Likewise, we owe him nothing. No offence to him whatsoever but, great as he was as a Wolves kid, he wasn’t around long enough to ever make it to true ‘hero’ status.

Think Hibbitt, Richards, Waggy, Bailey, Parkin, Munro, Bull and, of course, the legendary ‘Sir’ Billy Wright, Flowers, Broadbent, Williams, etc, if we’re talking players fit to wear that description.

Keano? Not even close. Once they’re shipped out of Molineux without achieving greatness, I couldn’t care less what they do, or where they go. Face it: Keane did a professional job on us and it hurts. I understand that because it stings with me, too. But don’t get too carried away. He’s just an opposition striker like the rest.

Is it the manager’s fault that players he bought to the club haven’t performed to their capabilities, in particular the defenders? It’s a tough call. I’ll put the ‘fluence on for you, you can every remaining game except one if you are right guessing which one it is…local team, wear Tesco colours..NO not Brighton and Hove Albion, nearer home, much nearer. Live in the US now and I called the Football Show on Sirius satellite radio to ask them what had to happen at Molineux for McCarthy to get the sack. When I said I wanted to talk about Wolves the person answering the phone said “Oh yes you just lost your manager didn’t you?”
A moment of elation then slight guilt at someone being fired. When I finally got thorugh to the presenters, they’re like, “We’ve not heard that.” They confirmed later that it was not true.

Disappointment, not surprised though really. We are in deep doodoo!

Even if we brought in Mancini or Ferguson and opened the coffers, it would be major task. We are starting to lose touch with everyone but the bottom three. here is no evidence we have the ability to string together even a couple of wins, never mind a streak. I would settle for a streak of one t the moment.

I wonder how even out best and most dedicated players feel when they set off for work every morning. I cannot get to the games anymore but I do believe that the fans who show up are amongst the best in the world and deserve better. I hope the players appreciate the support they get. I’M sure most of them do, but there are so many mercenary’s these days that really couldn’t care less which team they play for that maybe they don’t

may as well end the season now, can’t see us getting many more points than we have already got, especially as it is becoming inevitable that muppet is going to be staying in charge,at least we wouldn’t have to suffer the humiliation anymore, and majority have accepted relegation as a mere formality know
Have never felt so let down as i do now by the ineptness of this football club, and their decision to do nothing about the so called management team.
At least we will have the newest stand in the championship, even though it may be half empty just because people won’t admit they are wrong, stubborness doesn’t win anything only alienates people, in the case the loyal fans, who only pay the money to keep them in jobs and solvent, but what do mere fans now. relegation is obviously in the business plan or how else can they explain it

Just for info we have scored one more than Stoke and the same as Liverpool. We have also scored twice as many home goals as WBA.

The passion and life is slowly leaching out of this once great team . The record speaks for itself. No other club would put up with such awful results with out so much as a whimper. One little tantrum against Swansea and thats it . Quietly we sit and watch the demise of our dreams .We moan and groan on this and other boards but silently sit at the Molineux as we are served up absolute tripe. Mr McCarthy claims he would not do anything differently That just about sums it up

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GOD make this arrogant man go now – “I wouldn’t have done anything differently” – What are you serious ?

Morgan grow a pair and sack him NOW !!!!!!!

Wolves Fans – protest as much as you can on Tuesday night BEFORE KICK OFF and at HALF TIME but NOT during the game.

Express and Star – Do what the Blackburn Newspaper did and print the headline Mick its time to go now !

As Einstien said – Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Mick please go now and give us a chance rather than take us down.

To all the idiots criticising Robbie Keane for scoring against us – grow up! He’s a pro footballer and doing what he is paid to do. Though I have to say its typical of Wolves! We always let former players come back and turn us over. Finally I have to admit its time for Mick to go before it’s too late. I’ve supported him all along but enough is enough! I’ve had enough of his ‘heroic faliures’ post match interviews! Oh and please take Berra and Henry with you too!

Frequently read all the comments but have never had to write until now. We are all passionate about our club and our opinions run deep as does our love for the old gold and black; but guys we are pressing self distruct on our season by marginalising and blaming MM.

This is going to be a long one so settle down…get comfortable and i’ll explain…I’ll call my piece ‘be careful what you wish for!’

This blame culture that’s landed at MM’s doorstep is becoming tedious now. We can all speculate what goes on behind the scenes but truth be told none of us know.

What we DO know is Morgan is an entrepeneur, businessman and property developer first and foremost; and a Liverpool fan second. He saw a business opportunity and for £10 and a promise, he’s up until today made an excellent return on his investment.

The issue I have is that he’s a red; always has been always will be. We weren’t his first choice and never would have been. Yes he gives us the spin and weasle words when he speaks but there’s no substance to his ramblings.

It’s like asking us to change our allegiance from the old gold and black; it’ll NEVER happen. We are a stepping stone to him one day owning his beloved Liverpool and thats a given.

He employs Moxey because whatever people think of him he’s extremely efficient at his job. He’s an accountant not a football fan. He constantly balances the books and helps to build Morgan’s ever growing funds.

He’s on a fantastic salary and will jump through hoops for Morgan as he rides the gravy train.

Now, we all know that having football fans run clubs spells disaster as hearts rule heads and before you know it administration creeps up on you.

There is no balance at Wolves and I’m afraid my friends we are a business first and a sinking fund for Morgan’s future ambitions second; we are a football club third sadly.

I remember the days of the Bhattis, the Dave Jones big time charley signings Kennedy et al and I remember when Glenda went walk about.

What Mick has done and achieved since then has been nothing short of amazing. Yes there’s been dross and we’ve been surviving by the skin of our teeth but 5 years ago would we have taken 3 seasons in the Prem JUST surviving….I would; maybe some wouldn’t.

He’s made some signings that havent’t worked but were they HIS choices or were they all he could afford? That we will never know; I know for a FACT Eastwood wasn’t his choice but it’s all speculation and part of the Morgan/Moxey mistique.

MM works with what he has and sometimes it’s nothing. Modern day footballers earn a fantastic salary for a job they are supposed to love. You can coach skill and fitness into them but you can’t instill them with desire and common sense; it’s there or it isn’t.

Once they cross that line they’re on their own.Classic example was Henry and that beyond stupid kick out in front of not only the ref but the Vile fans. I know about the red mist and the heat of the battle etc but come on…that wasn’t Mick’s fault but I suppose picking him was. Neither was Jarvis’s sucide kick to nowhere that gave them their second goal.

The abuse we gave Keane was also ridiculous. Why? Lifestyle is proportionate to salary. If we were given the opportunity to earn extra would we turn it down? We all have committments and families to consider and because he goes to Villa for 2 months we decide to abuse him because he scored two wonder goals?

He should have been in an old gold shirt hitting two for us but because of Morgan and Moxey’s penny pinching he wasn’t; nothing to do with MM again.

I’m beginning to sound like a ‘happy clapper’ but i’m just objective. The board have made it clear MM’s in the seat for now so we have no choice.

The player’s confidence is shot as could be seen from the Vile equaliser, then the winner. MM for all his Northern wit must be feeling it to so, it’s a recipe for disaster.

So we talk about protests, walking in late to games, booing, chanting etc and we believe this will move the board into action; it’ll do nothing of the sort.

What it will do is take away the little reserves of players and manager’s confidence and ultimately send us down.

I don’t like the situation, I’m not happy, I think MM is out of his depth BUT its all we have for now, Mick, the team and us.

We need to put our differences aside now, support what we have and make sure we don’t send more waves of negativity out onto the pitch and help send us down.

So…sack MM but a new manager will be exactly under the same regime and that’s not going to change anytime soon.

So ‘be careful what you wish for’…..rant over!! UTW

The last time we won was the last time Henry wasn’t playing. Last season we got more points per game when he wasn’t playing than when he was. If we win the next three games, which isn’t impossible, I bet he walks back into the team in the fourth!

Warnocks 2 footed Lunge on Kightly from about 10ft away.

    or

Henry’s flick out at the Oscar winning actress.

You decide, answers on a postcard!!!

    Runs with Wolves

    MM bought the players
    MM trains the players
    MM chooses the tactics
    MM picks the team
    MM chooses the substitutions

Why does this immoral person then try to claim that failure is the fault of everyone else, and not him! Look at the latest posts where he is trying to transfer responsibility to the players! What a moral cop-out!
