Steven Fletcher urged to end Scotland spat

Villa boss Alex McLeish has urged Wolves striker Steven Fletcher to revaluate his stand-off with Scotland boss Craig Levein and consider playing for his country again.

McLeish is eager for Villa’s defence get the better of the Wolves forward at Molineux this afternoon, but is hopeful that Fletcher will sort out his differences with Levein in the longer term.

Fletcher won the last of his eight caps against Sweden in August 2010 but has not played since he fell out with Levein after he left him out of the side for Scotland’s Euro 2012 qualifiers against Spain and Czech Republic.

And McLeish, who was in charge of the Scotland team which narrowly missed out on qualification for Euro 2008, is optimistic Fletcher will return to the international fold in the future.

“I’d like to see him playing for Scotland, for personal reasons, being a Scotland fan. But it’s his decision, you’d need to ask him,” said McLeish.

“Steven was one of the young players at Hibs when I was manager there, he was in the ranks. I think he’s blossomed, confidence-wise and belief, but he’s always been a player who has good confidence in himself.”

What a strange two weeks it has been since our last game. I haven’t looked over my neighbour’s fence with as much interest since Pamela Anderson moved in next door and regularly used her trampoline, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.
