Wolves chairman Steve Morgan today accused football’s rulers of being “dinosaurs” as he led calls for technology for any big decisions, including red cards.
Morgan wants to see video appeals brought in during games for controversial decisions, such as Nenad Milijas’ red card at Arsenal which Wolves failed to get overturned on appeal, then saw a worse tackle by Chelsea’s Frank Lampard only deemed a booking.
“How long does it take to view the incident?” said Morgan. “What the hell is the fourth official doing? He should be there with video screens, like in rugby for example, and they can turn decisions around very quickly.
“You could have an appeal process like in tennis where you’re entitled to ask three times during a game for a review.”
FIFA want the game played in the Premier League as is played in parks.
But Morgan blasted that idea, saying: “That is crass stupidity because you could say why have Hawkeye technology at Wimbledon when you haven’t got it in the local parks?
“You clearly can’t. But other ruling bodies in other sports really want to iron out human error and put in technology to assist the referees and umpires.
“It’s there in cricket, tennis and rugby, so why have we got to be a bunch of dinosaurs and compare Sunday pub football with Premier League football?”
Morgan accepts only FIFA can change the rules, but believes decisions are too costly.
