Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Birmingham 0 Wolves 0
Saturday 7th January 2012, 2:37PM GMT.
Wolves’ captain Roger Johnson’s return to St Andrew’s lasted just 35 minutes as his team mates could only manage a 0-0 draw against Birmingham in the FA Cup third round.
The former Blues and Cardiff defender was substituted after falling awkwardly on his ankle following an innocuous collision with Adam Rooney.
It was one of few talking points from a West Midlands derby which did not deliver the fireworks expected.

Mick McCarthy made five changes from the side which narrowly lost against Chelsea on Monday with Dorus De Vries replacing Wayne Hennessey in goal and Eggert Jonsson making his debut in midfield following his December move from Hearts.
Micheal Kightly also made the starting 11 following his return from a successful loan spell at Watford, with Stephen Hunt completing the changes in midfield. David Edwards, Adam Hammill and Anthony Forde made way for them, while up front Sylvan Ebanks-Blake was chosen to partner Kevin Doyle. Emmanuel Frimpong was relegated to the bench.
Roger Johnson received a mixed welcome on his return to St Andrew’s following his summer move to Molineux, with both warm applause and loud boos coming from the home fans.
Blues boss Chris Hughton made seven changes from the side that drew 1-1 with Peterborough on Monday.
Colin Doyle got the nod in goal over Boaz Myhill while Liam Ridgewell replaced Steven Caldwell at the back.
The former Newcastle boss opted for a five man midfield with Morgaro Gomis, Wade Elliott, Nathan Redmond, and Jordon Mutch being drafted in from the bench.
Adam Rooney was given the difficult task of lone striker as the Championship club aimed to stifle their top tier opponents.
Jean Beausejour, Keith Fahey, Chris Burke, Marlon King and Nikola Zigic made way for them.
Teenager Callum Reilly made the bench for the first time just a day after receiving his squad number.
Just before kick off a minute’s applause for former Blues’ defender Gary Ablett was immaculately observed by the surprisingly low 14,594 crowd.
The first half was a drab affair for the most part, but Wolves had a questionable penalty shout waived away inside three minutes when Kevin Doyle went down in the box under a clumsy challenge by Guirane N’Daw.
At the other end, Johnson headed Elliott’s left wing free kick over his own keeper and the cross bar with 13 minutes gone as De Vries flapped unconvincingly.
Jordon Mutch dragged a decent effort over from David Murphy’s cut backless than five minutes later and Johnson nodded just over from Kightly’s corner as both sides traded blows.
But Mutch failed to trouble De Vries with a tame long range effort after goods work from N’Daw and Karl Henry then flashed an equally unconvincing effort well wide from similar distance.
McCarthy was forced to withdraw Johnson 10 minutes before half time, with Kevin Foley brought on as his replacement.
But Wolves appeared unphased by the set back and Ebanks-Blake could have put his side in the lead seven minutes before half time.
The former Plymouth hotshot turned well passed Curtis Davies in the box but could only prod his effort straight at Doyle, who saved.
The wastefulness continued as Redmond fired straight at De Vries from distance on 43 minutes in the last meaningful event of a poor first half.
No changes were made at half time but Hughton replaced Ridgewell with Caldwell less than four minutes after the restart.
Rooney had a powerful shot charged down by Jonsson early on,and Wolves had a dubious handball claim waived away after Davies made a block inside the box as both sides pushed to break the deadlock.
Ebanks-Blake really should have done just that 58 minutes in but he somehow blazed Kightly’s well-timed cut back over the bar from 12 yards.
The striker had been left completely unmarked and his expression afterwards showed he realised how big a chance it was.
Davies received the game’s first yellow card with 22 minutes remaining for a foul on Kevin Doyle and Hunt sent the resulting free kick just inches over.
It was the Irish midfielder’s last touch as he was swiftly replaced by Matt Jarvis while Blues swapped Mutch for Beausejour.
With time running out Rooney forced a decent save from De Vries inside the box after Redmond’s effort had been blocked.
McCarthy made his final change, replacing Doyle with Steven Fletcher, with 14 minutes left but it did not have the desired impact.
Gomis curled a poor effort high into the Tilton Road end and Beausejour had an effort cleared from virtually off the goal line as the clock ticked down.
Jarvis came within a whisker of snatching victory deep in stoppage time but Colin Doyle pushed his curling shot onto the post, before denying Steven Fletcher from the rebound.
But a replay will now be needed to separate the sides.

As dull and boring as watching football gets. The only plus point was Foley slotting in reliably at right back, where I would like to see him for the rest of the season. The performances of Doyle and Blake were of immense concern. I estimate we will need 15 goals this season from players other than Fletcher. Who the hell is going to score them????

Awful team selection , why not av played young doherty in defence , midfield should av been at the very least forde guardiora frimpong/jonnson hamill (why not even on the bench) , shockin’ performance and team selection , gotta get bettet than this !!

I am sure the happy clappers will find a positive somewhere !!!
Mind you I must admit it is unusual to see Wolves 0……
Never mind we are solvent and all the happy clappers will keep assuring us we have the players and the manager to keep us in the Premier.

Time to go Mccarthy, and take clipboard, Henry stearman with you. Morgan wake up!!! it could be all over soon. Doyle, Ebanks simply not good enough to keep us up, and i fear fletch and wayno Will be gone, when we get relegated, unless Morgan sacks the idiot, and gets in a young and hungry manager, with a quality number 2. lee Clark Darren Powell Nigel adkins, there’s just 3 to choose from. I wouldn’t mind if we showed passion, but even that’s gone!!!! Can’t even think sbq Will be happy after that!!!!! going down fact!!!!!!!

Michael Kightly looked much improved and we kept a clean sheet. Otherwise not much positive to take out of the day. Typical of our cup performances in recent years, we don’t want a replay but don’t take enough risks to win (or lose). Thought the challenge on Johnson was poor, deliberately knocked him under the ball and caused the awkward landing. Their extra man in midfield made it hard for us, but we moved the ball too slowly and not very accurately.

oh – and the away support was excellent. Maybe Jez could offer free replay tickets to all the fans who went away (as if!).

What a poor game for a FA Cup match!! First half was dire.
No creativity at all from us, what on earth has happened to Doyle is beyond me he is a shadow of his former self.
Hunt was also very poor, both of these players were the right one’s to be substituted, Hunt could have been taken off much earlier.
We were a lot better in the second half and should have won the game with the chances we had.
It was good to see Kightly and hopefully if given a few games he will improve, especially if Foley is kept at RB (who is our best RB) as they have a good understanding, Stearman was much better in his normal role of CB, wonder if McCarthy will notice?
Henry was again poor today, I cannot understand why he is so uncomfortable with the ball, and some passes were hospital balls to colleagues.
Would like to have seen Frimpong alongside Jonsson today, it would have been a much better game to blood both of them.
Thanks Top Numpty for your comments about the “Poison Pen”, which was well out of order, however you will never change Farmer Ted, Fozzey Bear and the like as if they are losing the argument they resort to the name calling etc, they cannot accept other opinions.
Reality is we are near the relegation zone and stats never lie, the Manager & Team are not performing.

why cant we pass the ball to each other and keep possession??
how many years has this squad been together and yet they looked like strangers today??
I think henry should be given one or two games in the reserves as a forward and lets get jonnson, berra, stearman, foley – take your picK to hoof the ball up around him and see if he can get on the end of it.
His passing and distribution was wasteful and totally unacceptable for a professional. He gave NO service to SEB or Doyle. But he wasnt the only one as the passing all round was really poor today.
I’m glad Mick did not gloss over this as he admitted that a premiership side would have taken advantage of our poor possession and would have won today.
The problem is its been like this all season.
This squad need serious strenghening as in my view we are simply not competitive enough

15, I so agree. Why didn’t we go for it with the hunger of the youth coming through, becuase Doyle is a concern, Ebanks looked lost and frustrated yet it’s not his fault…NOT. Foley looked great, even Stearman Berra in centre was good, but Hunt ran like a headless chicken , couldn’t trap a fart and only shows how the favourites STILL command a place…HOW HOW HOW?????????? Are we ever going to see the management show some resolve ,take this by the neck and DO SOMETHING. How can anyone ignore such a very poor performance, team choice, team tactics and still think we’re OK????

It’s impossible to take much comfort from that game – it was a poor advert for players receiving several £1,000′s(some several £10,000′s)a week.
I wonder what it is that makes teams seem so lacking in basic skills, to such an extent they give endless punts upfield to simply ‘get rid’ of the ball? Genuinely, you can see more thought going into pub leagues on Sunday mornings, so what happens to players, far beyond pub games level, to make them perform so appallingly badly?
Whatever the answer is, it was damned awful to watch today! They both looked below midway Championship league outfits.

After that sterling performance against Arsenal, the rearguard action at least, today was lamentable. Couldn’t even call it a performance. We should have seen off City as we should have/ could have, seen off Stoke, Everton, Bolton & Chelsea. Having sized up what Wolves have (not) got to offer, I can only see humiliation rearing it’s ugly head once more come the replay.
How can our defenders be so bad? Mindless swipes at the ball, heading out of touch when chested control (under no pressure) would have served much better. Ill considered attempts at passing balls that fall straight to the opposition. If the blues had been half decent we’d be home with our tails between our legs now, or would we? Are we not so used to this utter crap by now, that certain persons laud a clean sheet as some thing positive to take from this game? Utter drivel, nothing more or less. Yes it was good to see Kites back today, but if that’s his best, oh dear. Fletch, yet again got that head in there only to be denied by the other Doyles brilliant fist. That Fletcher is still interested was the only positive for me.

Ok then…..
3 years of EPL football, and can someone please tell me how madmicks team have progressed?
Ok we may have some better players BUT even with a couple of better players our teams performances are going backwards.
I seriously do not know where madmick can now take wolves.
Over £57mil spent in 5 years and our team looks worse than when he arrived! Seriously, seriously poor performance today.
No passion – when all madmick’s teams ever had was passion. If the team no longer has passion what does it have?
We don’t have skill, creativity, shape, tactics, a plan b when not going well.
What is happening on the training ground?
Does madmick coach the goodness out of players, I am becoming more and more disheartened with everything McCarthy, it’s just not good enough but the powers that be are just letting our club fizzle away without a whimper!
What happens next only god knows, but it will be interesting to see how many turn up for the replay!

WE NEED ANOTHER STRIKER AS TO BE PREMIERSHIP QUALITY NOT SURE NICKY MAYNARD IS THE ANSWER YOU CAN BE THE BEST IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP DOES NOT MEAN YOU CAN HACK IT IN THE PREM JUST TAKE EBB FOR EXAMPLE.
So what did we learn today?
1.Jarvis and Fletcher are far and away our best two players.Unfortunately, this must be perfectly obvious to other Premiership managers in need of a striker/winger.
2. A welcome return for Foley who looked like a proper right back and provided a touch of composure on the ball and an eye for a pass.
3.Promising start for Kightly who got better as the game went on and was vastly superior to Hunt whose first touch remains absolutely awful.
4.Jonsson is ordinary at best and cannot be played with Henry if creative play from midfield is wanted.
5. If you’re not going to play him, Frimpong must be thinking he’d be better off warming the Arsenal bench as ours.
6. Having been outplayed at home by all 3 promoted sides and held to a very dull draw by a much changed Champ side, we really are the poorest passing team in the Premiership.
7.We have not progressed at all in 3 years and MM must take the responsibilty for that. The fear is that the Board won’t take that step because in actual fact, relegation is built into the busines plan.

Dire game with two very poor teams. Marvellous Mick again excelled with his team selection. What a midfield, no creativity and no flair, and as for stringing two passes together, what a joke. Against a team like Birmingham and we still play hoofball. Negataive, yes I am with the dynamic duo still in charge. Change required urgently Mr Morgan. Even the ESPN commentators were struggling to find something constructive to say. On a brighter note I thought Kightly got better as the game progressed but still nowhere near his Championship best. Like Ebanks not sure of his Prem potential, mind you there are others in that category to.

Good to see Kightly looking fit and Eggbert looks a better player than you would expect from the Scottish League.
We need a striker and Doyle needs to be sent way to get himself refocused because at the moment his no good to Wolves or Ireland. Something is up with him he looks so disinterested??

Probably the worst game i`ve ever seen in my, admittedly, sad little life. The simple truth is, our standard of “football” is never, ever going to improve with the manager we have. I know it, you know it, they know it. I was watching this embarrassing rubbish and imagining all the other Premiership players and managers laughing their collective heads off! Doyle`s confidence is shot, SEB hasn`t learnt the offside rule and Henry still thinks he`s playing Sunday league football. Please Mick, let someone else have a go before its too late!

Dull, non descript, uninventive phrase thats overused and totally disregards the often inforned and positive remarks made by the less negative among us..im glad spme of you arent in charge of team tactics..thered be NO inventiveness whatsoever..im with “clipboard and” and “muppet” ..theyve got a lot of experience and have paid theur dues..how many of us have managed a Premiership football team? the match didnt sound great today but a draw is still a decent result away @ a championship team.. We have no god given right to beat Blues or anyo
ne else ..not even when some “fans” have it in for fellow Midland teams simply because theyre not Wolves.. Lets have passion by all means but not prejudice..

Certainly a game of 2 halves, least said the better about the opening 45.
against decent but championship opposition you get confirmation that this is indeed the level for stearman, Berra, Ward,Henry, Eggy,Hunt and Seb just as 25000 knew 3 years ago before MM spent and wasted so much money. we were a shade better than Blues which tells you that MM has not been able to take us forward since promotion.
Long overdue that someone else had the chance. Interesting that a decent manager such as O’Neill can win as many games since his appointment last month as MM has achieved all season.
Well done Kites today, promises to give us a lift for rest of season.Impressions of Eggy ?, patrols the half way line never straying too far up or down the pitch and unlikely to be the ‘missing link’ but on the positive side does not shin the ball to opponents as much as Henry.

What an embarrassment to watch, even on TV!
As there could not have been more than 2 minutes of football with the ball on the ground the highlights should not take long tonight.
Has nobody at Molineux heard about possession and keeping the ball on the ground. I see better football at Sunday league matches than what we were served up today!
Wolves forever, MM never!

You have to be tall to play a McCarthy type of football, because the balls in the air most of the time!
That match was dross, and I don’t think that there will be much of a crowd for the replay. I certainly would not pay out money to watch it!
Our speed in going forward seemed much slower today, perhaps Jarvis sitting on the bench had much to do with that.
The defence did not have much to do of any significance, thankfully!

Good result really. Gives us a chance in the replay for some of our fringe players in the prem squad to get game time against the weaker championship club. They couldn’t quite do the giant killing feat that the fa cup is known for today so I think the champ club won’t fancy the replay at the prem stadium…

Yet another shocking, worrying, dull, boring, pathetic excuse of a performance. Totally devoid of any creativity or forward thinking. Mind you, that’s something I’ve come to expect under this dinosaur of a manager with his slow thinking methodical players. Eggy looks a typical McCarthy player, but I didn’t expect anything else after a chat with some Scottish mates last week!
It’s with woe that I honestly cannot remember the last time I saw a game and came away on a high after being genuinely excited and entertained.
Can anyone remember off hand the last Wolves player to score from outside the box?
…or the last time we dominated and beat opponents as opposed to scraping wins against teams on an off day?
…or the last time a defence splitting ball from midfield put our centre forward through one-on-one.
…or the last time a Wolves player featured on ‘Goal of the Month’ or ‘Showboat’?
…or the last time Hunt controlled the ball without looking like a dog playing with a balloon?
I know very well we are in the toughest league in the world, but after 3 years and the money spent…. surely we deserve more than the dross we are fed each and every week.
I can only glance with utter envy at the likes of Swansea, Norwich, Newcastle and now Sunderland thinking what it would be like if WE had a manager and board who did not constantly talk down expectations and nullify supporter hope. Just wish we’d show a bit of this fresh, dynamic forward thinking to take our club forward with simple, smart and easy on the eye effective football.

Why oh why is he insisting on playing DOYLE?
Doyle looks awful and as hit rock bottom performance wise..
May be it’s time for Doyle and Seb to move on along with a few others including “MICKO”!
Norwich,Swansea put out very different teams and still got results by scoring a plenty…
Wolves have not made any progress in any department. We dont seem too have any youngsters coming through yet when they get the odd game its against the like’s of “CHELSEA”!
Mick’s overall record in the premiership and cups is “POOR”.Statiscally he is the “WORST” ever premiership manager!!!!
How can anyone with only an ounce of common sense defend “HIM”!
Foley put in a 7/10 performance which he will and as done when played, yet he “WONT” play against “SPURS”!
Fletcher was only on for a while and managed to do more than “DOYLE” did all game.
Henry cannot play as a midfielder, tackling his is game,he as nothing too offer beside this!!
We are just not playing any football…In over 75% of the games this season we have not managed to string a few passes together…I only rememeber 3 games were we have found ourselves with 4 players in the opposition half..This as happenend when we are “LOSING”!
Today should have been all about playing football, yet we never mananged this at all!!!
MICK should have been sacked prior to DECEMBER.
If he had done we would have atleast being sitting 5 points better off than we currently are!!!!!!
Mick just cant get the team too play with any shape or pattern, this is why it is so concerning!!!!!!

Not much to shout about until the dying seconds but it was good to see Kites and Foley (easily our best right back and surely our best bet against Bale next week) back and looking strong. Never thought Blues would score. Trouble is, until Jarvis and Fletcher came on it didn’t look much like we would either – though SEB wasted a great opportunity. Drab but, hey, another 90 mins run out for some of our players might not be a bad thing.
A shot of a Birmingham supporter wearing a blue wig yawning his head off at 88 minutes summed it all up for me!!!! Both sides were beyond awful – an aimless kick about on a disgraceful pitch. No creative play from us at all – it was hard to accept that we have a number of international level players on the squad after watching this performance. The smartest people today were those that chose to stay away from this mess of a game.
The idea that anyone will pay money to watch a replay between these teams has to be laughable.

Yet another nail in the coffin of the FA Cup, time was when it really mean’t something to win the Cup. Now its hang onto your premiership status at all costs because thats where the money is. Well if thats the case then splash the cash now while we have still got a chance of staying in the premiership, otherwise its down we go, and back to playing full strength teams in the FA Cup to try and progress and make some cash that way. Seriously though, on the strength of that performance we will not only fail to progress in the Cup, but will relinquish our premiership place as well. We desperately need some quality signings in this window, because as far as I can see, we really are in the last chance saloon!

I just cant beleive how MICK as survived the “CHOP”!! May be MORGAN or MOXEY have placed a substantial amount of money on WOLVES being relegated!!!!!!
Why else perserve with a MANAGER that as over 3 years of a DIABOLICAL record in this league!!!!!

But surely you’ll have agree Henry was the only player in a gold shirt who wanted the ball & was trying to get us playing & that was only in the 2nd half, all 11 players & I exclude no one were a disgrace to the shirt, we improve marginally in the 2nd half against a very very poor blues team.
Where was Hammill, Frimpong, Forde, Foley(starting) all of these players either have a point to prove or need games & this would have perfect for them.
HOW BAD WAS STEARMAN????
This just has to change, we have gone so stale as a club on the pitch it’s unreal & we must stop looking for bargin basement players, if we have targets, go & get them.
Otherwise 48 league games await us next season.
As many of you know I’ve stuck up for McCarthy for years &had plenty of stick for it, but the time has come for him to go, he looks devoid of ideas, I get no pleasure in saying this, but he should be replaced IMO with Mark Hughes, at least he’ll be able to show Doyle & SEB where the goals are!!!!

Great opportunity to try some of our CREATIVE midfielders…BUT ALAs this is MUPPET MICK, why change such a successful(?) system – let’s keep NEGATIVE HENRY at all costs .. even at the expense of continued lack of results and progress. Or is it cos your EGO is bigger than Wolves and you don’t wanna be found out. And, as for SEB playing the full 90 mins???? (Must have been for the exercise and weight loss!!)
WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF THESE DIRE TACTICS< TEAM SELECTIONS AND EXCUSES…,ADMIT it MICK, you are out of your depth. No Clue, no ideas and certainly no solutions. Lets sign your old favourite Neil Collins and have a right laff at the expense of the Club. MUPPET!!!!

Well I have to agree with the Numpties today…. It was a boring game that showed no passion or creativity. What was worrying most of all for me was that Doyle and SEB were nonexistent! I can understand why MM decided to play Doyle instead of Fletcher. Fletcher needs resting he’s had a few knocks and doesn’t want to burn him out. Plus it was a good opportunity for Doyle to get on the score sheet and build some confidence, unfortunately that didn’t happen. The team didn’t have any creativity going forward at all…. very worrying. We are missing O’Hara so much he always shows creativity and forward thinking, can’t wait till he is back!!!! I don’t think Kightly is ready for the league and he should have come off instead of Hunt. Mr Egg was ok but I would have thought he would have done something with his chance to break into the team today.
A shame Jarvis’s shot hit the post then we wouldn’t have an extra game! but I’m looking forward to the replay.
Even though I agree with the Numpties today that the match was boring, why do you insist on using every negative as an opportunity to Out the management of Wolves club? give it a rest and be constructive with your criticism

The only mitigating circumstances for the most dire game I have had to endure for a long time was the pitch. Why can seb not control the ball and then hit the target instead of hitting it first time. surely he knew the surface was dreadful and therefore it would have been sensible to control it first.
Oh well its the wolves after all so what can i expect.

Fao grace what game were u watching ? Karl henry was a disgrace from start to finish ! You say he was the only one who tried to get us going ? When exactly was that ? All of them were a disgrace to the shirt , no fight,no passion ,no commitment, ive seen more over the park at an under 12s game and they dont get paid thousands for playing like they do. I for one along woth many many others are fed up with the dross served up by the 3′ms week in week out, we have a manager clearly out pf his depth at prem level, stats show he is the worse prem manager on a game to win ratio,we have a ceo who couldnt give a hoot about the paying public, and a chairman who’s silence speaks volumes, if the happy clappers and the i luv the 3ms brigade cant see what is going on then they are more deluded than i first thought dont say i didnt warn you come may mick out moxey out and morgan where’s the real money gone ?

How bad is it now that a player like Ward yes Steven Ward looks like one of our better players? How low have our club WOLVES sunk for Ward to be a candidate for player of the season?
For gods sake what is happening to OUR club?
What has madmick done to OUR club – 5 years in charge 2 steps forward and now 3 steps backwards!

Most of the time all Tom Ross/Matt Murray/Darren Carter, were doing was laughing and joking amongst themselves, and said both GK’s could have sat doing ‘crosswords’,no wonder it finished 0-0? The game sounded very boring, played by two average Championship teams. Its very sad to see the demise of the F.A.C ,a cup that use to get most, if not all football fans excited, yet today their was only 14,594 of which their was 2,480 WWFC fans, says it all really doesn’t it. As someone above states its all about staying in the BPL. Two plus points was seeing Kightly and Foley back in the team,it also sounded like Eggert Jonsson played fairly well, but it also leaves us with an xtra match we could have well done without. ‘enuff said’ UTW:

Spot on Jimbo 51…dreadful performance, against a Birmingham side who looked fearful of us, but without good reason. SEB just slows the game down as soon as he gets the ball, he takes two touches, and the entire Brummie backline has ran past him and got into their positions ready for his pass. The team is so unsettled players don’t seem to have a clear idea of what they are meant to be doing. Jonnson needs couple of weeks to train with the others, no good putting him in now…he’s not merlin the magician his initials are EJ for a start. Hunt looks like he’s had enough, he’s perhaps waiting until the last day of the season to secure a wonder goal to keep us up! I believe he thinks its his destiny now every season, to do bugger all but score that goal. Doyle…? free transfer to Rochdale, hopeless today and indeed everyday by his own standards.

Hi Grace,
No there hasn’t been many times we have agreed, I am sorry I still didn’t see that in Henry today.
You have stuck by your comments for a long time, but fair play to you for changing your mind.
My stance has been since last season that he is not good enough to take the team where we should be in the PL, his stats speak for themselves, he has been given money to strengthen the side and has wasted much of it.
But that is only part of it, he made in my opinion a major blunder with his blind faith and comments about Henry, (not Henry’s fault) he has had to stick with that, but my main beef with him is his lack of tactics, team selections, comments about the fans, Foley is a classic example probably the best player today playing in his best position.
Ward is another example he has promoted him above his capability, now he dosen’t know whether he is a defender or an attacker
The comment about the transfer window was always going to happen, I honestly think for some reason there is no desire from the board to do anything about it.
It is not going to get any better, he has to go, felt again for the fans who travelled to Brum again today, it’s all very sad really.

It’s futile and a waste of time and space to rant about Mad-Mick, many have already done so on this page to great effect.
I’m starting to feel I can’t go on with this, never in all my years with Wolves have I seen such vile lack of ability, thought, tactics, innovation as I have in the last couple of years and of course today.
Football should be thrilling, ambituous and provide dreams and memorable recollections for supporters of the club.
This is not football, in neither the team itself, the manager or what appears to be the owners desire/ambition/plan.
Please lets start making our feelings known at home games. We obviosly need to make our feelings clear to the board.

If we are relegated he will be seen as the best man to get us straight back up and given a contact extension. Both will also involve pay rises. Unfortunately, this muppet is here for the long haul. Just take a look at Sunderland and how they are now playing under O’Neil and the gap in the Prem between us and them!Enough said.

Translation for statements from the mouth of the great philosopher MM:
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy today warned inflated prices could reduce the chances of any more signings this month.
Translation: Do NOT expect any players even after all the promises we have made to fans and all our targets – after all the ones we have are capable of a top 10 finish.
Meanwhile, Wolves new-boy Eggert Jonsson has been tipped to be Karl Henry’s ‘shadow’ and make an impact this season.
Translation: Shadow!!!!!????? Karl’s name is always first on the team sheet.
Jonsson £600,000
Translation: We buy cheap.
MM “If Karl is injured or suspended then we didn’t have anyone else who could do that particular job.”
Translation: Karl’s name is always first on the team sheet. Therefore we can buy cheap.

The problem is McCarthy has a big fan club, not least in the media. Listened to the match on the radio and both the commentator and pundit both seemed in love with the man to the extent that he can do no wrong. It doesn’t matter how bad the team choice is, how puzzling the tactics are and how poor the performance is, Mick always seems to come out of it smelling of roses. As long as he comes out with a few funny faces and witticisms in the post match interview then the media are happy. With other poorly performing clubs the managers position is constantly being questioned by the media, so why not at Wolves?
I could not beleive how bad the game was yesterday. We lack everything a Premiership team should have. If we stick with Mick Wolves will take years to recover again (but the management think Mick is the man to take us back up again). We need a change. Look at Sunderland since O’neill took over. There are any number of managers in the lower divisions who would walk to Wolverhamption to be manager and do a far better job than McCarthy by doing the basic s right and moving on from there.
Living in Wrexham I can only point to the example of when Wrexham appeared to wobbling when Dean Saunders left. Andy Morrell, an existing player was given the opportunity to be player manager for the season and Wrexham haven’t looked back since. There are managers out there with the drive, ambition, know how and man management skills to turn a club like Wolves around.
Get rid of McCarthy now and put Craddock in charge until a new manager can be found. Craddock has been in the game a long time and has the respect of players and supporters.
Wolves strategy for the season seems to be based as always on the premise that there are 3 teams who are worse than us. Whilst that may be true of Wigan i can see Blacburn and Bolton slowly turning things around. Where will Wolves be then.

Had my season ticket here for over 15 yrs & been a regular for 30 + & been to nearly every ground in the league plus quite a few that no longer exist.
Have watched England play all over Europe & been to over 100 international & European club games.
Not that this makes me an expert, but I tend to think I know what I’m watching, good, bad or indifferent.
And the 1st half yesterday was as bad a game of football that I’ve seen professionals play & worse than a great deal of non league games I’ve seen.
If I saw a Sunday league player do what Stearman did today I’d walk off & find another game to watch.
I’ve tried to stick up for McCarthy on here over the past few yrs, but as a club I think we have gone stale & I get no pleasure in saying this, but it’s time for him to go & soon.
We have won 2 games of football in the last 18, dress it up how ever you like, that’s relegation, nailed on.

Having just read Micks comments I am even more concerned about the state of things. You get the impression he actually believes the likes of Foley and Kightly will make a difference. That is what I perceive as one of his many problems, apart from having his favourites, his style is of the lower leagues, as is the ability of many of his squad. Controlled passing is non existant as is tactics apart from hoof it and hope. Most of the posts on this page clearly recognise the problems although there always be some who think MM is the man for the job. Sorry but he isn’t and he should go. Unfortunately Statistics do not lie and there is also no light at the end of the tunnel with this regime in charge.

75 and 79 Ted The Wolves – you make an interesting point, one that has exercised my mind many times in the past few years. Steve Morgan is a hugely successful business man in a line of work that is renowned for being ruthless. Long ago, working for good old Sir Alfred McAlpine, I saw it at first hand for most of a decade – and the one question I would dearly love the owner to answer is, would he have the equivalent of MM anywhere near a director level management post in his building empire? The answer has to be, ‘No’, because I cannot see any suggestion that his building companies are going bankrupt! Then why in God’s name does he do it with such a passionate activity as a football club, one which carries the hopes of a proud city, not simply nameless, anonymous shareholders?

Cannot agree more with all on here. This board and manager need to be made aware of our distrust in them. If Mcarthy got sacked does anyone think he would get another prem league club interested in him? I would like to know what everyone thinks?
His track record is absolutely disgraceful. He is a lower league manager kept in place by an owner who will not spend to keep this club in this league. What’s the bloody reason of building a new ground when we are facing relegation. The man must be devoid of fans opinions and football awareness. The fact that he keeps his gob shut is totally ignorant to say the least. When we go down i think MM and he will know what the fans are all about.

Embarassing. How many games are we going to continue to play a system where the other team need not field a goalkeeper and still get a draw.
This is not the players! This is the result of having a manager who does not have an attacking idea pass through his head.
They are playing scared. Watch how many times Jarvis is playing behind the full back. watch how there is never any support for the forwards from central midfield. Watch how many times MM is screaming at players to get back.
We have three recognized attacking players. and only one with any confidence, no one on the bench other than average hardworking utility players. Clueless, and January will close with the addition Eggert Jonson, another average utility player and Fringpong on loan. Pathetic!!!
We will be playing Birmingham again next year, but not because they will get promoted

80 John wolf. you have a right to back mick to the hilt but tell me this.
What is your view of the match yesterday and performance?
Lets talk about team building. do you beleive that over the last 3 seasons the wolves squad has improved in quality?
Let break this down
1)Are we defending better?
Remember we concede on average 2 preventable goals per game.
2)Has our ball possession and passing improved?
Did you see the game yesterday
3)Do we create and put away enough chances?
well we have been low scoring all 3 seasons and have not improved.
I have used these 3 points as in my opinion you dont win many games if your not good in these areas.
Mick has had considerable funds to address these areas and fans like wanderer in eire have a right to question the lack of progress and ask why is mick still in charge.
You seem to forget that we just about survived last season, and the odds against us surviving like this season after season is nil.
For the record with 17 points, I still think we have a fighting chance to get 6/7 more wins to stay up but the areas i highlighted need serious improvement.

Now for some reality.
A match against Birmingham, away, was never going to be easy given the recent history and relationship between the two clubs.
The FA Cup is notorious for being a banana-skin for top sides playing lower opposition. Look at how Wigan got on, and how QPR and Bolton got away with replays too.
As for those that litter their comments with abusive terms for our manager – well, those carelessly-flung insults say more about yourselves, that anything else, I’m afraid.
Now is not a time for running around and panicking a lá Corporal Jones from Dad’s Army. Decent supporters follow a club through thick and thin, and maybe some should occasionally think back and remember what a dire position this club was in when MM came in. If you can’t see overall progress since then, then I don’t know what will make that apparent.

This has nothing to do with the lack of progress, they have reviled the bloke since the day he took over. We were awful yesterday and Mick messed up big time at Bolton. However FYI the odds of us going down this season are still around 6/4 4th fav. I understand that anyone reading this board would think we were virtually relegated, but I always think the bookies are the most likely to give an objective opinion of the odds.

Wonderful piece of delusion from a regular E+S Sage, a PJW Holland, on the Sunday Telegraph report of the “0-0″ bore draw; as quote, ” Mr Morgan and Mr Moxey will be rubbing their hands in anticipation of the 28,000 crowd for the replay”; either the greatest piece of sarcasm ever or PJW should get out a bit more! If 8000 turn up, that will be more than it deserves; MM,along with JM & SM have dragged the once proud name of WWFC to it’s nadir, with no hope of regaining the once high esteem held for the club around the country,Europe and the soccer mad parts of the planet; Cheers Mick, Cheers Jez and a special cheers to Silent Steve, what a plonker!

Oh Walter, ‘it’s (sic again) nadir???’ That’s either the greatest piece of sarcasm ever or you should get out more. Do you remember playing in front of 4,000 in a 2 sided ground where one side was 50 yards from the pitch?

Pretty dire game of football. I feel sorry for the paying public. We do not have anyone who can hold on to the ball and make decisive passes. The new midfielder looks a typical MM signing, puts in effort but short of quality. Too early to make a real judgement but let’s face it, you get what you pay for.
More negatives than positives plus another fixture, happy Jez! I think SEB and Doyle were appalling and just look at their ability to hold up the ball compared to Ba and Ameobi for NU last week. This is SEB’s third season in the topflight and whilst I’ve always been a big fan, he’s no more of a PL player than me. Get rid! As for Doyle, this is his worst season by far, too lightweight, falls over too frequently and 2 goals in 21 for a striker, get rid. Hunt is industrious but does not have an end product. He is in the same camp as AG, MM doesn’t fancy him.
On a brighter note, thought Kightly had a better 2nd half. It will take him some time but this will be his make or break season. Berra’s best season by far. Highlight was Foley, showed what a proper fullback should do. Defend when we do not have the ball, attacks when we do.
Summary, just as we did at the beginning of the season. Need another CB, left fullback, central midfielder who can pass and striker.
Wonder what we’ll get?

The match v Birmingham outlined the how poor Wolves are, this looked like a team with an internal problem of confidence? The manager makes curious decisions. He buys a player from a club which is relegated then makes him captain. Whilst Henrey may not be every ones’ cup of tea, the lad’s veins runs with old gold and black. If he was good enogh for the Wolves, and according to the Wolves manager, good enough for England, then what has happened since?
M.M likes players who will, as in the words of a song, Keep on Running. But you have to run in right places and that bit is left out.
When I receive the ball, I should be know which players are in an open space. When I do not have the ball, I should be looking where I can best receive it. These words should be branded on the brain of every footballer.
The ball is round and made to roll. If you want it to stop still, then play with a square ball. Where are you Peter Broadbent, Sammy Smyth, Willie Carr. Eddie Clamp and many more.
I know Roy Swinbourne has diifculty getting about, but can you play this Saturday?

No 116,
I think it’s a little ridiculous to harp on about what Mick McCarthy has done for this club in relation to where we are now.
It’s very clear where we are now, two places above the drop zone with three of the four clubs below us picking up points faster than we are.
Love him or hate him you can’t deny his appalling win to lose ratio as a manager in the Premiership.
Mick McCarthey inherited a side that ended up 7th, thanks to the efforts of Glen Hoddle, a guy who quit because Moxey wouldn’t splash any cash. Don’t get me wrong, I was no fan of Hoddle and his efforts but any other manager appointed by Moxey might well have achieved what McCarthey has too. OK he got us up but what he’s serving up these days is far worse than how we played in our first and second prem seasons. Why is that, given the funds made available to him? Could Dave Jones or Hoddle have made a better job than McCarthey has, if they’d been given the wedge MM has had? (and frivolously wasted most of, IMO)
Yes banana skins happen in the FA Cup, it’s true but I don’t think anyone who watched that game yesterday would say much of anything happened at all and a defeat at Brum wouldn’t have been so bad if we’d gone down fighting, or dare I say it, lost because of some appalling refereeing decision.
The last thing we need is a distracting cup run, what we urgently need is some self belief within the team. The players all look like they need some leadership, sadly so does their manager. We’re not attracting quality players because quality players don’t want to play for Mick McCarthey and I for one wouldn’t blame them.
You say: “If you can’t see overall progress since then, then I don’t know what will make that apparent.”
What would make progress apparent to me would be a team that’s developing some flair and style, even if that does mean losing more games than it’s winning. A team where everyone feels we’re just one or two class players away from being a good and promising side. Sadly for Wolves it’s the other way round. We only have two or three decent players and there’s no chance of attracting a shedload more.
What would also make progress apparent to me is if we could score more than the occasional goal and we could also manage one or two or preferably five or more, clean sheets over the course of the rest of the season.

I find most Wolves fans are totally negative or ridiculously positive, lets face it, this is a borderline premier team, always has been and always will be unless the owners spend at least 15 million to aquire in some quality players and bring us up to the standard of Stoke or Newcastle, its not all Micks fault, yes, I think he has made some mistakes but, look what he has to work with, however, I think a change is needed, the players can’t be fired so I think its time for a new manager and hope that will shake things up, its getting late and looking at Saturdays terrible performance I’m wondering just who are Wolves capable of beating.
@Noisy- still putting your faith in bookies odds, I see. The reason Wolves are around about 4th favs to be relegated is because they are around about 4th bottom of the league. I fail completely to see what your point, regarding the bookies, is. If we were bottom (or any other club) by a clear margin we would be nailed on favs at the bookies for relegation. The combination of probability (which is the main criteria used) coupled with the ammounts of bets placed ( and therefore the liability the booky finds himself under) will determine the odds (probability) of any given predicted outcome. The only thing that matters is league position- not what the bookies ‘say’. At this time of the season the bookies ‘league table’ will, increasingly, develop a similar look to the actual league table’. But that’s obvious, i’d have thought.

For all of those that say madmick deserves to be treated with respect!
Then I say – The day that madmick appologises for his rant at the fans calling them names – numpties and acting like a schoolyard bully – When he manages to string a decent run of results together – when MY team plays with flair and style
Then that is the day he will regain my respect, until then no chance
Again for all those that say madmick is an EPL anager with years and years of experience and is much more qualified to manage MY club than any of us – Yes he is more qualified, but by god he is making a poor show of it!
This is now madmicks team, he has got rid of everyone here before apart for Hennessey and thank god Hennessey is still here!
Madmick has spent £37.6 mil in less than 3 EPL seasons and a further £20mil when in the championship BOTH are nett figures sot that includes fees gained for sales!!!
How many other managers would have begged for those transfer funds, wigan, blackburn, swansea, norwich, west brom, newcastle, bolton, everton – All of which have had to sell their prize assetts to balance the books!
Madmick has had the luxury of being able to buy buy buy without having to sell the likes of Hennessey, Doyle, Fletcher, Jarvis and the like.
Madmick does not know how lucky he is to have the honour of managing OUR wonderful club without the financial constraints imposed on 10 other premier teams around him.
When will the penny drop that madmick has had more than enough chances to improve our team – Can you honestly say this wolves team is better than last year – AND I dont mean the individual players, I think we will all agree that we have better players that have cost alot more money BUT the team is, well, the team is not a team! We have a shambolic bunch of players that can not string a decent passage of football amongst them.
Who’s door does this fall at then?
The chairman – Steve Morgan who has continued to back madmick even when after 3 years results are getting worse and performances match those poor results
The CE – Jez Moxey who steadfastly back the manager and helps madmick land his priority transfer targets ie Doyle, Fletcher, Johnson, Ohara
Or the Manager – Madmick McCarthy – who no matter what players he has at his disposal, No matter how many millions he has had to spend, still manages to make them look like a mid table championship side at best? Who’s team have no flair or creativity? Who’s teams could always be expected to put “a shift” in BUT even that has deserted his team now!
So my question to all you madmick fans what does he have left?
How can madmick turn OUR club around?
I hear you say “because of his experience” – well he is the worse ever EPL manager results wise – Fact
Lets see hey…..I do not want Wolves to go down, no way. I want our club to survive, BUT I haven’t got a clue of how we ill do it with madmick in charge.
Anyway…..lets hear what you have to say, in a constructive manner please

Jack Dunne 131 – Look what he has had to work with – I am really sorry BUT you guys need to really wise up, I don’t want to sound rude BUT what would you accept as reasonable to work with?
This is now madmicks team – Assembled solely by madmick – after spending over £37 million in his 3 EPL seasons.
How much should he have been given? When in his 5 years he has spent over £55 million – is that not enough to assemble a team.
The players in our team have been “hand picked” by madmick and his scouts. Why is the lack of quality anyone elses fault other than madmicks?
I just can not understand why the madmick supporters can blindly back this manager to the hilt. What is it that he has done that gove you suck blind faith?
OK so he got us promoted……AND?
OK so he has kept us up…….AND?
What progression have you seen? What improvement in play have you seen? What quality and style in our team have you seen?
The best player in OUR Wolves team is Wayne Hennessey….How much did madmick pay for him? Oh yeh….nothing, zilch, noubt….why because he was one of the Wolves Cubs – How many Wolves Cubs will play consistantly under madmick – NONE – Why, because madmick is scared, scared to show that he has consistantly made mistakes with his team selections. Scared because if he now plays members of the team other than his favourites they will prove that his team selections were poor!
Our manager is loved by everyone – in the media, press, other managers – WHY – Because he is a joke….comedy comments, comedy presentations, comedy performances, always up for a wise crack comment – ALWAYS good for a story.
The problem is madmick is becoming less loved by the people who really matter – US – The Wolves supporters, all of which will be here long long after madmick has gone and become a distant memory!

I think it is fair to say the majority of posters on here are concerned with our lack of flair, creativity and ability to retain the ball. Whichever camp you sit in, the manager and coaches must take responsibility for this particularly after having a number of seasons to establish a style of play.
Manangers have spent far less and developed much better teams to watch.
The other worrying thing is the lack of pace in our squad and this gives us less options particularly away from home – other options will give Jarvis some support. The hoofed ball up towards Fletch or Doyle is not working.
I love the committment and passion of a number of our players – Karl Henry is a great example – but to improve the way we play we need players who can pick a pass and keep the ball. Frimpong is a holding player when he plays at Arsenal who has ability on the ball too. Foley is one of our best footballers and needs to play.
Not Mick’s fault that he is missing both Milijas and O’hara at the moment, but who else in the squad do we have who can create from the centre of the midfield and will he dare to play these two together? We have to try to win some games coming up, draws will not lift us far enough away from the relegation area.
Finally 80 Johnwolf I think you will find O’Neill built successful teams at Wycombe and at Leicester. Your support of Mick is admirable, but don’t let it cloud your view of other’s achievements.

How any 1 can say on here that Karl Henry was good is beyond me he is so negative I used to stick up for him but slows our play down our football is Henry to Berra, Berra to Johnson Johnson to a full back back to Berra then a big boot or to Hennessey also followed by a hoof. Oh and in the game where he sees it fit to rest Hennessey why not give Vokes a chance especially if we’re going to persist with hoof ball. Awful football change is needed cannot rely on 3 worse teams than us every season. Mick needs to swap numbers with Jarvis as he seems to be in love with that position.

Disappointing team selection and we got the result we deserved.
Funny that McCarthy set up an ostensibly attacking 4-4-2 formation, yet played two negative holding midfielders. Henry had very poor touches on the ball, always seemed in danger of losing possesssion and had no creativity going forward. I’m surprised that Frimpong didn’t start, this would have given him more preparation to link up with Henry in central midfield ahead of the Spurs match.
Doyle has lost his mojo, pure and simple. I hope he can find it back, for I do rate him highly. Ebanks-blake deserves some credit for his work rate and he chased down a couple of balls that I thought were lost causes, but he was unforgivably caught offside too many times (and not just in this match).
Kightly actually grew stronger in the second half. He and Foley built up a pleasing understanding and link-up game – some lovely incisive passes from Foley which released Kightly beautifully. Plus, Kevin’s tidy play and composure in defence is better than Stearman’s. With Ward and Jarvis already linking up well together, it bodes well to have a two-pronged attack interchangeably on both wings.
Finally, I cannot resist this: Ward has played in every position on the field except the goalkeeper’s. When De Vries looked in trouble with the left hamstring issue and all 3 substitutions had been made, I actually held my breath: is this the time? Ward going the full circle? I mean, has this ever happened in the history of the game? I was actually disappointed when the need did not arise.

MM: if ‘Manny’ gets in our team and does things the way I want them to be done, he can go and be a fabulous player at Arsenal…..”

Frimpong has been touted as an enforcer type, but McCarthy sees the on-loan Arsenal man as more of an attacking midfielder.
Translation: I’ll try him at right back.

I must admit it was a pretty poor performance but I would have thouight that even the biggest Mick Must Go Moaner would have shut up after about 8pm yesterday. The news that Neil Warnock is available should make any sane football fan want to hang onto their manager until he is safely in a job somewhere else. I would imagine that even the Blackburn fans will go quiet.
All those people who keep whinging on about sacking MM and getting a “top” manager in should ask themselves who is likely to come to the Wolves with its poisonous atmosphere. Don’t forget your disgraceful “Don’t know what you’re doing” performance was seen by eveyone in football. An incoming manager would would probably get a 4 match honeymoon period before a couple of defeats start the moaners off again.
The same applies to any decent players. Its no wonder the confidence of the team is shot to pieces as the players are scared to make a mistake because of the abuse they get. I see that the morons have turned on Henry now that Keogh has gone, Who will it be if Henry goes – Jarvis, SEB, Fletcher? I’m still unsure just who Wolves could get, at this moment in time, who would be able to make something of the present squad. Silk purse and pig’s ear come to mind.
Nevertheless, that is not a reason for keeping MM ad nauseum, because he has demonstrated here, and at Sunderland, that he can’t do anything other than mount a scramble in the relegation area of the Prem, a league which demands a standard of footballing strategy and technical awareness MM simply can’t aspire to.
However, I get a bad feeling that Steve Morgan hasn’t got an answer either (even though it’s his job to do so) and horrible though it may seem, relegation could have been factored into an amended longer-term Business Plan for Wolves(as suggested by another contributor on here a day or two ago).
In which case MM might be around for a long time yet, because he has proved he can hoof his way out of the Championship given time.
It’s a sad scenario, but the lack of any positive movement at the top gives credence to it being a real possibility.
As for Warnock I looked in on the QPR site pre-season, and the owner had him in his sights even then, that was without a ball being kicked! So his dismissal comes as no surprise – which is another way of saying MM is a very lucky fellow to still have a job in the Prem!
How much longer do we have to put up with this? We are going backwards not progresssing it seems to me that the only talent MM had as a manager was to get a fighting spirit in the team. This seems to be on the wane and when thats gone then what will he fall back on? his astute tactics, his ability to change things around, PLAN B???? I think it is time Mr Morgan to do the nesassary and fire MM AND JM and take the risk of spending proper money on proper Prem players, or continue the gamble of trying to stay up on the cheap! I’m sure you didn’t get where you are today without taking the odd risk!!!!

Regardless of what we the fans want and expect,id be very suprised to see Mick depart before Christmas next season.
If he keeps us up now doubt he will hang on to his job,but if we go down think he will have the task of us being in a play-off position come January.
If theres a change to be made, think its more likely to be in the coaching department.
The football we have to endure at present is awful,so think Connor,s job is more under threat than Mick,s.
Not saying these presumtions are true or correct.
But just think this would be along the lines that Moxey and Morgan are thinking.
If,Mick was to go,id certainly go along with the young and hungry policy.

I get regularly slated on here and have done for the passed 3 years why ? because I in turn slate Mad Mick.
I said three years ago he wasn’t a premiership managager despite taking us up. In our promotion year our form collapsed from Christmas onwards..
He has wasted nearly £50 million on players that simply aren’t up to the job. The table doesn’t lie and it certainly doesn’t lie three years running.
We played Birmingham’s second team on Saturday and there was nothing between the two teams. That means we are currently playing mid table championship football at best.
Having just read Tim Nash’s analysis of the game I’m utterly amazed he can take any positivies out of that game. I dont think a single player in the Wolves team is worthy of anything but some extra hours on the training pitch.
Yes Kightly did a lot of running but there was no quality at all attached to it. Far from being impressed I’d heard so much about how he was firing on all cylinders that I was left disapointed by what I saw.
Eggy and Henry together were awful. I really can’t see why we’ve bought the bloke.
To me hes yet another wasted opportunity. 8 of the players were the same that took us up.. so where’s the progress in this team?
Answer, there isn’t any and there won’t be until Mick goes
But please please, no WARNOCK and no BRUCE.
Crickey, if we are getting rid then at least go for someone half decent.
Sparky would of been perfect. Too late again Mr Morgan.

Hello, Sue ;-)
If you’ve experienced serious doubts where there weren’t any previously, only to then have your “faith” magically restored at a stroke (courtesy of just one fellow poster), then what do you think it’s telling you?
Sue, facing the glaring truth about Wolves under this management team is agonising indeed. It’s much less painful to simply bury our heads in the sand and pretend everything is rosy in the garden -even when it clearly isn’t. Some of us can’t do that, though.
And to think you were waking up so nicely before relapsing, Sue. Go get those smelling salts, luv, and take an extra-deep breath. Voila! Another patient on their way to recovery ;-)

The match was dull, boring, embarrassing stuff where watching paint dry would’ve been more exciting. It did neither Wolves nor Blues any favours, nationally. At least we got a clean sheet out of it for a change -hallelujah for small mercies!
I’m still very confident we’ll take care of ‘em in the return next week, though. If not…well, there’s really no hope.

I can honestly say that if Wolves were playing on my front lawn at the moment I’d shut the curtains. Well done Mick.

And when “tiny little QPR” beat Wolves 3-0, thats when Mick should have gone. Our season has been in steady decline since that awful day. Would Morgan stand for all this if we were Liverpool? Doubt it! And can people stop going on about how bad it was years ago (4th Div/2 stands/Bhatti bros) Yea, i remember it too, but that was then and this is now. And now is all that matters!

There seem to be a lot of posts from yesterday evening that have been deleted.
Whichever side of the fence you are on, the last few matches have again showed we have a lack of any playing style, lack of pace, lack of creativity and cannot retain the ball. The manager and coaches have to take responsibility for this.
Foley is one of our best footballers but even when fit has not been Mick’s first choice now for a while. Frimpong is a holding midfielder at Arsenal so play him there for us and in most games we do not need a second holding player as we need to win games to move away from the precarious position we are in.
Can’t blame Mick for losing O’hara and Milijas, but without them who creates from the centre of our midfield? Will Mick dare to play them together in a 5 man midfield with Frimpong or Henry holding?
Mick has built this squad with significantly more money than a number of teams who sit above us as he has not had to sell any of our better players to fund this spending.
Johnwolf 80 – you claim O’Neill has never built a team – try Wycombe and then Leicester where he made them into a mid table Premier League team and took them into Europe all on limited resources too.
Your undying support for Mick along with a number of others on here is admirable, but your attempt to discredit other managers with much better track records does not support your stance.

Sue, I’m sure lots of us ‘love’ him for the highly entertaining character he is; the Yorkie turn of phrases he uses and the jokes he often cracks. Yes, funny stuff indeed…but not so funny when the joke is on this club and its fans. Let’s not forget that we’re being mocked by the media and rival supporters for looking clueless Premier League chumps. As I’ve often said, I like Mick as the honest, down to earth guy he is, but there’s really no “may” about it, Sue -he HAS taken us as far as he can.
Enjoy the smelling salts treatment. Perhaps yu can invite Arsene Wenger to share them with you if he’s “impressed” by Wolves. Come to think of it, I think he needs them far more, luv! ;-)

Cannot understand why everyone is down on Doyle. He has run himself into the ground for Wolves and he’s knackered. For two years he had no support now he has no confidence. Not one player has improved with McCarthy.
Not one attacking idea runs through his head, it;’s all about stopping the other team scoring. Fletcher will burn out too.
There’s a point at which living on passion doesn’t work, eventually, without a plan it will die. Passion is why we beat the top teams last season, but without structure passion will not carry you to a win every week.
If Doyle gets to play in a team that gets the ball into the penalty area he will score, he’s a poacher not a scorer of twenty five yard drives. He’s worked hard trying to be the holdup man when there’s rarely been anyone to hold it up for.
$37 million is not a bad sum to have spent on players. Some of the players came in and played well, and then just disappera. What is it about Hammill that he cannot get a game, Why did Michal Docherty never re-emerge when we have struggled at right back.
Why don’t we have any forwards on the bench, Ebanks Blake looks as though he has never pleyed at all before this season, totally lost and ineffective.
The manager has to go, but no Bruce or Warnock lets not just recycle the same old garbage. What’s Butch Wilkins doing on Saturdays??? I am also sick of all the commentators saying what a great guy Mcarthy is, honest as the day is long, players love him, and all of the other crap that doesn’t matter. He cannot coach at this level and I would rather have a liar who the players hate, but who can get us winning games and back to where we all feel we should be.
It’s probably already too late at this point, but if we could find another Martin O’Neill there may be hope.

1 Rich,And in the last 3 years on occasions I have agreed with you.But what you say above is unfair. He hasn’t wasted £50 million has he? We would get good bit back if we sold Fletcher and Jarvis wouldn’t we? We would make a profit on some others as well. Also you say he is not a Premiership manager. If so how come we are in our third season in the Prem ? When he arrived there was no parachute money,he has benefitted from Steve Morgan putting money in,but in the process has earned our club over £100million in Sky money alone, plus even if relegated we will get another £50 million in parachute. All in all since he has been at the club he must have earned us getting on for an extra £200m given extra sales of tickets and merchandise.Mick McCarthy owes Wolverhampton Wanderers nothing,in fact it is the other way round.

80 – john wolf – building a team – how much time should we give him? He’s been here 5 years now, shall we give him 10, 20, 30 years? What do you want as a supporter? £57mil spent and performances so poor that the fans are stopping away week on week.
Do you think the managers of Norwich, Swansea, Bolton, Blackburn, Everton would have sniffed at what you say is inadequate funding, and being able to hold on to their best players in the meantime…wake up!
101 – magic wanderer – ref Alex Ferguson and Madmick comparison – you are shockingly crazy making any comparison, how many trophies has madmick won?
116 – wolves supporter – a game against blues id never going to be easy? Well that is where you and I differ my friend! We should not have any thoughts about not winning – we should go out to win every game – that is why you are accepting the drivel served up by this manager!
Dads army’s corporal jones would do a better job than Jez Moxeys seargent mccarthy – stuttering through mediocre result after mediocre result
Overall progress £57mil and 1 promotion and now going backwards! Do you base progress on points tally or league position? ie if we gain 50 points this season and get relegated that would be progression???
137 – sb – no appology from me for madmick name. The guy is a schoolyard bully, anyone want a fight comment, numpty comment – when he grows up I grow up….I will be here long after he goes….trust me!
139 – chris hoggard – the figures are nett transfer outlay. You are talking about revenue stream of £100m – out of which is wages probably accounting for 85% of that £100m…then there are fixed overheads – ground, training academy, loans, agents fees, fuel and many others – Doesn’t leave alot does it?
ha ha ha 6 points against Spurs, victories against man utd, chelsea, liverpool man city YEH great while it lasted fella BUT, that is history – We have lost to man city, liverpool, chelsea, man utd this season already…what is your point?
Credit to madmick – YEH thanks for promotion, thanks for 2 and a bit seasons at the bottom of the EPL, thanks for giving us dire performance after dire performance this season, what is your point?
155 – noisy – the odds are current at this moment, what is your point? If you are happy to watch football like this for the next 10 seasons and remain 17th in the EPL then hey, you are welcome to it – I still support Wolves very passionatlely but won’t go to watch a madmick team again…no way, BORING
167 – statos boring brother – Warnocks EPL record is better than madmicks EPL record – what is your point?
Who has vreated the “poisenous atmosphere” as you put it? I would say it is madmick by selecting such sub standard players, and making decent players look sub standard. By having poor tactics and no plan B.
Don’t blamr the players poor form on the fans, you are seriously deluded if you do. What about the shift at all cost mentality of the manager. And effort over flair or your off, how do you think that makes the likes of Milijas, Jarvis, Fletcher, Hammill and others feel…..wake up and smell the coffee

196 chris hoggard – yes he could sell Fletch and Jarvo and make a profit, yes the revenue income is more when in the EPL BUT what you have to remember the outgoings are around 40% higher also – ie overheads – wages, policing etc
So this £100mil is probably not much more than if we had just banked the money and stayed in the championship!
JUST IMAGINE if we had finished higher in the EPL – Wolves would have earned even more money – the higher you finish the higher the “pot” money. Do you think madmick knows that……
Lets just thank him for what he has done and if madmick owes us nothing and Wolves owe madmick as you put it – LETS JUST CALL IT QUITS and say GOODBYE with all of our blessings, I will even smile and wave as he leaves his office…..Is that ok with you

Chris H – as always you make sound financial sense. Obviously you probably have to add around £70M in wages (not all to Jez) so maybe the ‘profit’ is not quite as big as it seems. The figures I can find on transfers say £36M net spend is about right, but they also say we spent £7M on Roger Johnson, and don’t allow for the income from some undisclosed sales. Overall I suspect the net spend is probably £30M and the improved assets of Flecher, Jarvis, Doyle, O’Hara, Johnson, Berra, Hunt et al would probably cover this. So overall the transfer dealings have been around neutral to the balance sheet – except the minor point of having kept us up twice which, as you say, is why he has had the money to spend in the first place.
By the way, I never said the addional £100m was profit.I said it is additional income earned by our manager.Sure you have to pay extra wages, and the butcher to pay for those Moxey pies. But this money has been earned by our manager getting us into the Prem and keeping us there(so far].Give the guy the credit he deserves. Some one on here has also said players have not improved. Can anyone seriously say Jarvis has not improved since we bought him from Gillingham.Hennessey has improved ,just ask Brummie Rob.I would like more quality, but Berra,Foley,Henry, Ward and others have improved since we bought them.

205 Sue – no, and they got clapped off – though I was a bit confused about why that happened!
197 4eva – my point (I am going to give up trying to make it soon – maybe it is me) is that some people repeatedly state that we are as good as down, but the most objective view you will find says we will probably stay up. I accept that quite a lot of what we have played recently has been poor (I’ve given up even hoping for a good cup tie, even though I went to Blues and will go to the replay, and Sheff U if we make it – but then I am a glutton for punishment). However I think the game v Chelsea was a pretty good glass half full / empty judgement.
I felt we were playing a top 4 side who have a lot of very talented players and we played the right team (having seen how little Jarvo and Fletch had left at Bolton), we defended in a well organised way and but for a bad late
mistake would have got a deserved point.
Others will say we played an out of form team and set up too defensively and once again our failure to defend properly, or attack in numbers before we went behind was a missed opportunity.
In my opinion that is just a matter of expectation – some people think we should be an established mid-table Prem club this year, some people are still content we are in this division. Some people look and wonder why we can’t be Norwich, others look and are glad we are not Burnley.
Even if you look at the opinions from your side of the argument you can find plenty who think
a) we have good players but a tactically inept manager
b) we have rubbish players because the manager has wasted a fortune
c) we have rubbish players because we have not invested in the squad
they can’t all be right – can they?
PS at least the debate has stayed fairly civilised for once!

201 chris hoggard – Please don’t be as naive to say madmick has made OUR club £100mil
HOW…Please tell
So – If madmick is the sole reason that the club have earned £100mil then surely madmick is the sole reason that the team play such drab football?
Which makes madmick the sole reason that the team are currently devoid of tactics and show no creativity or ability to change their style of play when things go wrong – Which unfortunately at the moment tends to happen every game!
The other members of Wolves staff ie marketing, sales, catering, merchandising obviously have nothing to do with the revenue stream either!
No its all down to madmick, who by getting promotion and stabilising our club as a 17th place EPL club has generated the extra £100mil
I wonder how much extra Wolves would have received if the team had performed better ie we had a manager who created a team with style and flair and were not afraid to be creative in their play.
A team that had finished in the top 10 as promised by playing the way we all crave…an extra £100mil maybe – OMG – YES – so if that is the case then madmick has actually held our club back!!! Madmick has actually starved our club of extra revenue!!
chris hoggard isn’t it funny how you can look at it from 2 different angles, mine is the right way of course

I agree with you about the petty name calling on here about the manager and coaches but the simple fact is the football is shocking, when did you last see the ball passed along the floor? little 1 2s and dare i think it a defence splitting pass? I have seen the 80,s darkdays down here and ive seen worse football than present but we didn’t have any money then.
I thank mick for his efforts but it’s time for a change the whole place is stale and before anyone says we owe him no we don’t he has been well paid and he is not performing. If my club can sack Stan Cullis our most succesful manager ever why not mick?.

198 – English Exile – Sorry I read your post and got te wrong end of the stick and thought that by saying that Bruce was at the game that you were suggesting him as a replacement for MM. Who would you suggest if MM were to go?
197 – Wolves4EVA – I don’t understand your comment about Warnock’s record in the premiership. His one full season in the premiership ended in relegation. Warnock was the only manager to buy Barton for god sake.
As for MM generating the poisonous atmosphere, was it MM who caused the same negativity under Hoddle, Lee, McGhee, Taylor & Turner? This attitude is something that has only happened in the last 20 years ago and I’ve always felt it is rife amaongs the “Born Again” and the “Glory Hunters” who have attached themselves to the club since the rise from the division 4 days.
Several years ago I moved from one of the best seats (near the front and close to the half way line) in the Billy Wright (near the front and close to the half way line)because of the moaners. There was one bloke who would start booing if we weren’t winning after 5 minutes and another woman who my kids used to caller the “Ooh Naylor” woman who would whinge about anything Naylor did – One day Jo Lescott miskicked and put the ball out for a corner and we heard “Ooh Naylor” – Wrong player 0 wrong colour!! I bet since I gave up that seat she’s been k the “Ooh Keogh” and then the “Ooh Henry” woman. Too quick to criticise and too light on positives
Just how does does your booing help the players?

Two managers of teams currently above us, no way they are coming mid-season, but then this list would have had Owen Coyle and Ian Holloway on it last year (maybe it still has?)
Darren Ferguson, not overly popular as a player, mixed managerial record.
Di Canio – slightly bonkers with extreme right-wing tendencies.
Got any more suggestions?

I do believe in learning from the past, it is imo unwise not to do so, but that is different from living in the past.
If someone pulls you almost drowning from the water you are damned grateful, but if they then act in such a way that you are in danger of going back into the water, you get well away from them, or get them well away from you.
Don’t forget, Mick got a chance to redeem himself when he came to Wolves and has every reason to be thankful to the club for giving him that chance. However, just as with Sunderland, he finds the step-up harder than many of the players do, therefore we must learn from the past – not live in it. If the board continue doing the latter, we will be back in the water, and for water, read, the Championship.

Any change of manager (if there is to be one, which I doubt)isn’t going to happen until the end of the season.Morgan said publicy last season that Wolves being relegated wouldn’t result in him sacking his manager. We, thankfully, didn’t find out whether he would or wouldn’t have. He’s not going to do it now, that I am convinced of.The application and interview process would drag on too long- it would be hard enough for a new man this late in the season, let alone when even more matches have gone by.It’s a case of strapping in for another relegation ride and hope that three teams are worse than us. I haven’t seen three worse footballing teams than us, Everton and Bolton came closest, but that’s not the criteria for survival- winning enough points is.It must come as a total shock to all those fantasists, who were predicting a top ten finish, that we’re being cut adrift in 16th, with half the season gone. After the lack of activity in the summer, adding so little to a team rated 17/20 the previous season, some of us predicted it. But we were accused of displaying a negative attitude and labelled, accordingly, as one of MM’s numpties.

212 -English Exile – Thanks for responding. As you say you haven’t given it too much serious thought I wouldn’t want to argue about the individuals as that isn’t fair on you. When the time comes (and I know we don’t agree on that – I think the time to change a manager is at the end of a season to give whoever comes in a chance to change the squad and work with the players) I would also prefer an up & coming manager, perhaps with an older more experienced head along side him.
I’m off now to build myself up for a massive moan if Kompany wins his appeal
