Mick McCarthy: Wolves will keep it clean
Saturday 31st December 2011, 10:02AM GMT.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy today insisted his players will stay clean and won’t start harassing referees in the light of ‘Milijasgate’.
McCarthy and everyone at Wolves remain angry at the decision of the Football Association’s appeals panel not to overturn Milijas’ red card against Arsenal.
The Molineux chief was so incensed he used yesterday’s press conference for today’s game at Bolton to show footage of the incident of Milijas’ tackle on Mikel Arteta, plus a similar one of Ronald Zubar earlier in the game which went unpunished, and ask the views of the assembled media.
The appeals panel upheld referee Stuart Attwell’s decision and ruled there was no “serious or obvious error” in his judgement, meaning Milijas is banned for three games.
Winger Stephen Hunt said after the Arsenal game that the “clever” reactions from other clubs’ players get people sent off and added that Wolves should be more like that. But McCarthy insisted Wolves would not turn into a bunch of whingers.
“I don’t want my players to have to badger referees or be in their earholes trying to influence them,” said the boss. “I don’t want them doing anything that’s not in the rules of the game.
“I’m not interested in people chasing referees to get players sent off.”
