Wolves facing double D-day
Thursday 29th December 2011, 11:00AM GMT.
Wolves today faced a double D-day which could leave them without two players for Saturday’s crunch clash at Bolton.
Ronald Zubar is looking at a probable lay-off after undergoing a scan on a knee injury sustained in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Arsenal.
And this afternoon Wolves were awaiting the Football Association’s verdict on the red card for Nenad Milijas at the Emirates, following an appeal being heard at 1pm.
Former Marseille defender Zubar fell awkwardly in a touchline challenge with Gervinho shortly before being forced off five minutes after the break.
Zubar spent the night in London after the scan and the club have yet to announce the results of the examination.
But there are concerns that the 26-year-old is facing another lay-off just six games into his comeback after being out for six months because of a back operation and a groin injury.
Boss Mick McCarthy thought immediately that Zubar was hurt – the challenge happened in front of the dugout – and remonstrated with Arsenal fans howling for him to be removed from the pitch.
“Zubar went down with an injury and the crowd were shouting because they want him to get off,” he said.
“I just think there has to be a bit of empathy towards the opposition.”
Wolves are prepared for a worst-case scenario on Milijas. Their evidence had to prove to the FA’s three-man panel that referee Stuart Attwell made a “serious and genuine error” according to FA rules in sending him off.
Although there was no malice in the Serbia international’s attempt to win the ball, there may be evidence of a studs-up challenge.
A three-match ban would leave Wolves without midfielders Milijas and Jamie O’Hara for at least three matches.
Such a ban would take Milijas out of league games with Bolton and Chelsea and the FA Cup clash with Birmingham, while O’Hara isn’t expected back until the end of the month after surgery on a double hernia.

Hopefully Zubars injury isnt serious, as he really supplies us with an attacking option from defence. He can be a little unpredictable in his defending, but he can also have fantastic displays.
We need Milijas to be playing for us. I think he needs a run of games to get to his best, and with o’hara out, this is the iseal time. On his day, he can be a match winner, so hopefully he will be on the pitch against Bolton, back to his best.

just resign Mick, take all your poor signings with you and your Trolling supporters on here that abuse those who dare not worship at the alter of King Mick;

I thought Zubar was just beginning to make an impact. It takes a while to reach match fitness, and Zubar was getting there. If he is out for several weeks it’s a loss, but we do have replacements in the form of Stearman and hopefully a fit again Foley.
The loss of Milijas in midfield would probably pose a bigger problem for McCarthy in the short term, if he wants to stick to the same 4-4-1-1 formation that was used in the Arsenal game.
I’m not particulary keen on Milijas, but with O’Hara not available for a few weeks, there are’nt too many options. Guedioura is the obvious choice, but he keeps dissappointing when he is selected to play from the start.
Of the two games coming up, it is far more important to gain something from the Bolton match. I would like to see Wolves revert to 4-4-2 for Saturdays game and then maybe 4-5-1 for the Chelsea game.
That’s not good if Zubar is ruled out again, he has started to look close to his best again recently.
No worse a situation than Man. Utd have got, so Wolves must just get on with it, that’s why each team has a squad of 25 players!
What is with all this hero worshipping of Zubar, who cannot defend for his life. Bring back Foley or Stearman!!! OK he is a threat going forward but a liability at the back, which as the name suggests is his job (right back)???
Bolton have a WORSE defensive record than ours so please, please, don’t go ultra defensive against them.
TRY AND WIN THE GAME.

Walter Wall – the reason that real fans like me have a go at zombies like you is because of your garbage comments, the report is about Zubes and Milijas being out of the team and all you can do is spout your anti Mick vile.
Go and do one back to your real love…..Tesco Town!
I don’t worship Mick, but I can see a good manager just like those in the game see him, managers who have more qualifications than I or you can only dream for, now run back to mummy theirs a good boy or girl!
Sorry to disappoint you number 2 but Mick isn’t going anywhere. You, on the other hand are free to do one and take the rest of your kind with you.
Feel sorry for Zubes but even sorrier if Stearman is back in again. Appears Morgan didn’t buy MM and clipboard a bike for christmas then. Shame because regardless of the Arsenal result we are going down with these pair in charge.
2-Walter Wall – Go away you Baggies supporting fool…
5-Anonymous – Great comparision, brilliant!
If the Milijas tackle was a foul them my time playing in the Wolverhampton Sunday League would have consisted of suspension after suspension!
Arsenal fans are deluded they believe no one can tackle their ‘stars’ but are blind to the violence that they dish out every week, a bit like Arsene they don’t see very much…
Report abuse
Is’nt Foley on his way back to fitness now?,he would be a ready made replacement for us.
I think Milijas would be the greater loss by far. Since his return, Zubar has been at fault / out of position for at least three quarters of the goals we have conceded, including Tuesday when he played Gervinho onside.
Irrespective of what he gives us going forward, the blokes first concern should be defending. Give me a solid Foley/Thommo/Irwin type full back any day.
Walter Wall- What a prat. Maybe you should give up your job seekers’ and apply for the job yourself.
Totally agree with u number 2.
I say on yer bike Mick go and sling it!!
Dont you just know we are going to Bolton to try and get a draw, we will probably lose 1-0 and reignite their season just like we did for Everton who had lost 6 out of 7 when we played them and we only had 1 shot at goal wich was a penalty.
Pathetic Mick just hurry up and resign!!
2 Walter Wall – So the moaners are allowed to bad mouth Mick and the team at every opportunity, but the so called happy clappers cant defend him after all he has done for the club.
5 Anonymous – Man utd could have their entire starting 11 out, and still have a good enough team to qualify for europe. They can afford to have the likes of Berbtov, Carrick, Giggs, Ji-sung Park, smalling and welbeck benchwarming, when any of those players could walk into almost any club in the prem. But other than that, we are in exactly the same boat as them.
I agree with walter wall yes go mick real supporters (not happy clappers) dont want you or clipboad here.

Well as I suspected Nenad’s red card upheld despite the fact that I have literally not heard one person who thinks the decision was correct. A three game ban for what was not even a foul – quality work from the FA backing probably their least competent top flight official.
We will probably go 442 anyway at Bolton and I think we have some options with Forde, Guediora and hopefully Edwards.
I didn’t think 2 was worthy of a response – make an actual point and we’ll answer it, it is you who just use abuse.
Milijas banned then
This makes the Bolton game so much more difficult
Guediora the likely replacement unless Foley comes in.

I am not the biggest fan of Mick, with his work hard but lacking flair players that he brings to the club. I would like Mick and the Wolves board to prove me wrong and get 2-3 decent signings in the transfer window and show some real ambition and not sign any more utility players that nobody has heard of, i doubt that will happen though.
Now that Milijas has lost his appeal we are woefully short in midfield.Mick wanted to srengthen midfield in the summer, now Messrs Morgan and Moxey perhaps you understand why. This is not just being unlucky, this is poor executive management. We started the season with a short squad of only 24 which included a no of injury prone players. Stop penny pinching and bring in some quality in Jan.
So Milijas gets three match ban.
Absolutly disgraceful that Song gets away scot free for the thugery on Fletcher and Hunt.
One rule for the rich, another one for the poor.
Remember Fabregas’s assault on Ward at Molineux last season? If memory serves, Fabregas wasn’t even booked. Milijas’s challenge was benign by comparison; yet seeing how these things operate at this level, in all likelehood, the 3 match ban will be upheld.
If Milijas does end up out of the Bolton game, we could do worse than play Doyle in a deeper role alogside Henry and Hunt, with width from Hammill and Jarvis- Bolton’s full backs are pretty suspect.
Yet again the FA show their true colours, backing an inexperienced referee to the hilt when making debatable decisions.
Straight red for Milijas in questionable circumstances and yet a yellow for a double stamping incident by Song.
To be honest, I didn’t expect the decision to go any other way – keep the ‘big’ clubs happy and forget about the ‘little’ teams.
Still, bring on Bolton – we might be wounded but we should let the FA know just how hard the bite of a wounded wolf can be.
UTW!!
FA are a joke,simple.
Yet McCarthy always refuses to be critical after games & time & time again we keep getting shafted by officials.
Milijas’s tackle wasn’t even a foul.
Disgusted & disillusioned with the petty politics that exist within the game at this level.
It’s time to stop being grateful for being here & to start to stop accepting the double standards of the FA.
Come on Wolves say it how it is!!!!

20 – I’m quite happy to bow to the man that got us where we are. Taking over with barely a first team to put out, to a third season in the prem. It’s not rocket science for me.
Another manager would have us still in the champonship staring up at the premiership. He’s been our most successful manager in my life time at least.
Merlin will weave his magic again I’m positive.

No fence sitting on the FA’s decision on Milijas, it stinks!!
Absolutely no one who has written or spoken of the incident has agreed with it – but that appalling organisation the FA have! They are truly unacceptable in the modern world, an anachronism that should be shovelled into the nearest cess pit. In any court of law their decision would have been thrown out, and their inability to deal even handedly with clubs ranging from rich to poor made worthy of an in-depth inquiry. They are rotten to the core.

Are you lot on here numpties and do you know anything about football or have anything else better to do you muppets. listen to yourselves and read what your writing before you post it
Wolves are crap 4th from bottom and will be lucky if they stave off relagation. As for Mick well he’s a premiership manager last i heard.
Come on Wolves live for today there might not be a lot of fans tomorrow.

26 Grace
Totally agree with you-the FA are an absolute disgrace.
Fed up about hearing about poor referees it’s about time they got backbones and were consistent with their decisions but the most spineless are the FA who need to learn to stand up to the so called big clubs whose players and managers don’t know the meaning of respect.
26-Grace, I totally agree! What’s the point of an appeal system if no leeway is ever given. How many times in a season do they rescind a red card? Hardly ever! Unless of course your name is Rooney or you play for a big club. It’s a pointless waste of time, basically, the Premier league may just as well decree that there will be no appeals whatsoever, then at least everyone is being treated the same and referees can make as many mistakes as they like.
26 GRACE,
Start to stop accepting? Why not simply: stop accepting…..?
And as you seem to have started, why stop? Come on Grace, say it how it is. Whatever it is.

The comments made by Tony Pulis and Gordon Taylor on Sky following Stephen Hunt’s little outburst are claptrap. Just watch Van Persie charging at the referee in the sending off clip. If the rules state that any player making this kind of assault should be given a yellow card then why haven’t the FA dealt with him retrospectively ?
Gordon Taylor should think before he speaks.
One observation I would make. We’ve seen Milijas make this type of tackle before. Poor control then slow trying to recover the ball.this time he got a rice of the ball but he doesn’t always !
I’d trade him in during the window for a player with Premiership pace
Dorrans ?

Fantastic decision by the panel who sit in judgement over these sending off appeals.
What was it a bunch of 90 year old’s who forget their names if asked. It probably went something like this.
Who is the club that’s appealing Smithers.
Er it’s a team called Wolves Sir Rupert in their match against Arsenal.
Ah Arsenal, wonderful team under that Frenchie what’s his name.
Arsene Wenger Sir Rupert.
That’s the fellow, marvelous football Arsenal play under that chappie. Are they appealing against a sending off. Wipe the ban away immediately.
No Sir Rupert, it’s the other team.
What other team.
Wolves Sir Rupert.
Wolves, Wolves, did’nt they go out the football league in the 50′s.
No Sir they have been in the Premiership for three season’s now.
Oh okay. What’s the name of the blighter they are appealing for.
Nenad Milijas Sir.
What? Who do these johnny foreigners think they are. Absolute disgrace. Appeal turned down. A flogging offence in my day.
Fetch me another brandy Smithers.
Yes Sir.

Greasy,
The intent was there, even if the assault was missed. Mick said his foot was on the turf, where was it at the start of the infringement?. Wolves have to get up to scratch with the rules of the game, Mick wants to make his own up, but it doesn’t wash. Most of you fans go along with him instead of consulting the rule book.

I for one would like to see Ricardo Fuller on loan in January.
Get Kightly back and play him in the Attacking mid role.

Vindaloopi, your arrogance in claiming to speak for ‘real supporters’ is matched only by that of Arsenal fans who feel that their players have a divine right not to be tackled. McCarthy is not the world’s best manager, and a very long way from being the worst.

Seems asthough Stephen Ireland could be out of Villa, would be a good signing.
